Chapter 4: Disastrous Dates

After the Rose Ceremony, Kagome went back to her room for some much needed sleep, but just as she was about to slip into dreamland, the annoying ringing of her cell phone woke her.
“Hello?” Kagome mumbled sleepily into her phone.
“Hey Kagome!” Miroku greeted her.
“Oh hi, Miroku,” the singer said to her manager. “What can I do for you?”
“Well,” Miroku began. “I am boarding a flight to America and I should get there at about 9 a.m. in the morning. Do you mine picking me up in the airport?”
“Sure,” Kagome answered, making a quick, mental note to pick up her manger. Hanging up the phone, she lay back down to her bed and fell asleep again.

Morning

The bright rays of the raising sun steamed through the large, open window and into Inuyasha's bedroom. Inuyasha stirred from his sleep and lazily opening his smoldering, golden eyes. With a yawn, he tossed on some clothes before walking out of his bedroom and into the kitchen. Waiting grumpily for his morning coffee to boil, Inuyasha picked up the daily newspaper for something interesting. But as his eyes fell on the headline of the first page, he saw something that he did not like. Angrily, Inuyasha grabbed the newspaper and stormed into his half brother's room.
“What is the meaning of this?!” Inuyasha shouted as he roughly threw the paper towards Sesshoumaru.
Sesshoumaru looked at his half brother expressionlessly before picking up the crumpled newspaper and scanned through it. The front page was a photo of him and Kagome, riding side by side on their horses. And on top of the picture, it was a large headline written in bold, saying “NEW LOVERS.”
“What is going on between you two?” Inuyasha demanded impatiently.
Slowly, Sesshoumaru putted down the paper. “How stupid can you get, Inuyasha?” he asked in a bored tone. “It is just a pathetic lie. I was only going on a date with Kagome.”
“Keh,” Inuyasha said. Turning around, as he stormed out of the room. However, half way out, he turned and looked back. “If you think that you can win over Kagome's heart again, then you are wrong.” He hissed at Sesshoumaru.
Slowly, a small smirk spreaded through Sesshoumaru's handsome face. “Watch me, little brother.” He said. “Watch me.”

---------------------------------

In the darkness of the silent room, a man sat alone on a simple chair. Slowly, he flipped open the daily newspaper and read the headline of the first page. A low, anger growl rumbled from the depth of his throat as he roughly shredded the paper into bits. Satisfied, a smirk appeared on his face as he glanced at the ruined newspaper. Turning his attention away, he looked passed the widow and out into the busy streets of New York. Kagome is here somewhere, and he will have her.

--------------------------------

“Kagome, wake up.” Sango urged, shaking the girl awake.
Kagome's eyes fluttered opened and she slowly lifted her head from the soft, comfortable pillow. “What is it, Sango?” she mumbled, still half asleep.
Sango held out a newspaper and gave it to Kagome for her to read. The singer rubbed the sleep from her eyes before glancing at the headline.
“What?!” she screamed as her mouth dropped opened in shock.
Sango giggled at her friend's expression. “Kaggy is in love, Kaggy is in love,” she teased in a singsong voice.
Kagome glared at her before turning her attention back to the newspaper, rereading it:

NEW LOVERS

From eyewitness reports, singer Kagome Higurashi was seen around New York City with super model Sesshoumaru Taisho. Most eyewitness says that the two appeared to be blindly and madly in love. Ms. Higurashi was last seen leaving Japan but refused to say where she was going. But now, it seemed that she is currently residing in America. Some eyewitness says that she is engaged to Sesshoumaru while others said that she was having a secret affair with him, although no announcements were yet made to prove it. Whatever the truth is, may this new couple have the best of luck in their relationship.

“Is it true?” Sango asked her teasingly. “Are you really engaged to Sesshoumaru?”
“No, of course not.” Kagome said, her face turning red in embarrassment. “There is no engagements and no secret affairs; I was only going out on a friendly date with him.”
Slowly, the singer rubbed her temple wearily. “This is great. I thought that I could keep this trip to America a secret so that the media won't bombard me. But now, the whole world knows that I am here.”
“Don't worry Kag,” Sango said, comforting her new friend. “The publics only know that you are in New York, they don't know where you are staying at.”
Kagome nodded before stealing a quick glance at the clock overhead. 8:30 a.m. “We should go down for breakfast,” Kagome suggested as she stood up. Suddenly, she froze as her mind registered what time it was.
“Oh my gosh!” she exclaimed. “It's 8:30! I am suppose to meet my manager at the airport in half an hour.” Quickly, Kagome bolted out of bed and rushed into the bathroom to change. After several minuets, she came out in a more appropriate outfit with her hair slightly damped from the shower.
“What about breakfast?” Sango asked her.
“No time,” Kagome said as she hurriedly putted on a pair of running shoes.
“But-,” Sango began but the singer quickly cut her off.
“I have to go now,” she said. “See you later.” And with that, Kagome waved bye to her and ran out the room.
“But you don't have a car….” Sango pointed out although her friend was far from hearing range.

---------------------------------

“I am so late,” Kagome, muttered to herself as she looked at her watch. Walking down the stairs of the mansion, the singer clumsily stepped on the shoelaces that she accidentally forgot to tie, and was about to fall down the flight of stairs when a pair of strong arms grabbed hold of her waist and steadied her.
“Are you okay?” Inuyasha asked to her.
Kagome smiled while blushing at her clumsiness. “Thanks.”
“Feh,” Inuyasha said. He then looked at the singer's messy hair and slightly damped clothes. “In a hurry?” he asked her.
“Yeah,” Kagome answered. “I have to get to my car and pick up my manager.”
“Umm….Kag, you don't have a car here.” Inuyasha pointed out.
Kagome's full lips parted and formed a silent O. “Oops,” she said and slapped her forehead. “I forgot.”
“But I can take you,” Inuyasha said as he took out his car key. “I have my car with me.”
A beautiful smile grazed Kagome's face and her blue eyes shone in gratitude. “Thanks Inuyasha, you're a life saver.”

---------------------------------

After driving for over an hour, Kagome and Inuyasha still haven't reached the airport yet. Looking at her watch, Kagome knew that Miroku's plane had landed already and he's probably waiting for her.
“Are we there yet?” she asked.
“Almost,” Inuyasha answered. “The bachelorette mansion is located at the edge of this city, a long drive from the airport.”
Kagome nodded and closed her eyes, deciding to take a quick nap. Just as she was about to doze off, the car pulled to a quick halt and Inuyasha shook her lightly on the shoulder. “We are here,” he said.
The singer yawned before unbuckling her seat belt and stepping out of the vehicle. Running a hand through her now-dried hair, Kagome quickly pulled a baseball cap on top of her head and a pair of sunglasses over her eyes; hiding most of her face from view and making it hard for people to recognize her.
“Nice disguise,” Inuyasha said sarcastically, eyeing her hat and sunglasses.
Kagome grinned sheepishly. “At least it's better than getting swarmed by reporters and the medias.”
Inuyasha nodded and together, the two walked out of the airport's parking lot and into the building.

As soon as they entered the airport, a man who looked around his late twenties, dressed in a casual T-shirt and pants, came up to the singer. “Kagome!” he greeted.
Kagome squealed happily and went over to give the man a hug. “Miroku,” she greeted back.
“What took you so long?” Miroku asked her. “I have been waiting for nearly an hour already.”
“I am really sorry,” Kagome apologized. “I'll to anything to make it up to you.”
“Well…” her manager began, a lecherous smile spreading through his face. “You can give me the honor of baring me a child.”
Next to Kagome, a low but threatening growl could be heard while a blush tinted the singer's ivory cheeks as she slapped Miroku. “Pervert,” she muttered.
Miroku rubbed his sore cheek before looking over to Inuyasha. “I am Miroku,” he introduced himself politely as he held out his hand. “Who are you?”
“Inuyasha,” Inuyasha answered in a gruff tone.
After a few more minuets of chatting with each other, the three decided to get back to Inuyasha's car and leave before anyone could see through Kagome's make shift disguise. However, while Kagome was about to walk through the exit, someone slammed onto her back, causing the singer to fall forward from the impact. Out of reflex, Inuyasha quickly reached out to steady her from falling onto the ground
“Thank you, “ Kagome said, once again blushing from her clumsiness. She looked down on the floor and saw that her sunglasses and hat were laying a few feet away from her. `Uh oh,' the singer thought.
Slowly, she turned her head around and saw that the entire airport was quiet and everyone were staring at her with shocked faces. However, the silence was broken by a scream.
“Oh my God!”” someone shouted. “It's Kagome Higurashi!” As if on a cue, nearly everyone in the building began to rush towards the singer in excitement, shouting for autographs and demanding to take photos with her.
“Come on,” Miroku urged. “Let's get out of here before the crowd goes out of control.”
Putting an arm around Kagome in a protective manner, Inuyasha quickly guided her through the large crowd and out into the parking lot. The three hurriedly ran towards Inuyasha's car as many of Kagome's fans ran out to chase after them.
“Quickly, start the engine,” Miroku said.
“I am trying,” Inuyasha grumbled as he fumbled with his keys.
By then, some of the overly hyper fans were banging at the vehicle's windows, demanding for Kagome to come out. Finally, Inuyasha found the right key and started up the car. The vehicle roared to life as Inuyasha stepped on the speed peddle, speeding the car out of the parking lot and away from the crowds.
“I am really sorry for causing so much trouble,” Kagome apologized as she looked down in shame.
“Feh,” Inuyasha answered.
“It's alright, Kagome.” Miroku said. “It's no big deal. Happens about every time when you are out..”

---------------------------------

When Inuyasha's car arrived back to the bachelorette mansion, the three got out and stepped into the large house. “So… this is the place that you are staying in?” Miroku asked as he looked around the grandly decorated house.
Kagome nodded and led him up the flight of stairs to the second floor, to the room that she shares with the 14 other bachelorettes.
Opening the door, Kagome found Sango sitting on top of her bed, reading a magazine.
“Hi Sango,” Kagome greeted. She pointed to Miroku, whom was standing next to her. “Meet my manager Miroku.”
However, before Sango could even say hi, Miroku had already walked up to her and took held of her hands. “I am so please to meet you, my dear lovely Sango. Kagome had told me a lot about you.” He said while flashing her a charming smile.
“Umm…okay,” Sango replied nervously, feeling uncomfortable with Miroku's close contacts.
Miroku gently placed a kiss on her hand and looked at Sango seriously. “Will you give me the honor of baring me a child?”
Sango stared at him dumbfounded until she felt a hand rubbing her lower rear. Looking at Miroku, her face turned into a bright shade of red from embarrassment and anger. “Pervert!” she screamed at him before slapping him on the face, making sure that it would leave a bruise. Looking at her manager's unconscious form, Kagome shook her head wearily. `Once a pervert, always a pervert,' she thought.

---------------------------------

“You are really ready for marriage?” Kagura asked, staring intensely at the handsome bachelor.
Sesshoumaru shrugged his shoulder and leaned back on his seat, obviously bored. He was taking Kagura out on a date and they were driving around the city of New York, sightseeing and checking out the magnificent sights that New York has to offer. But for Sesshoumaru, he just wasn't enjoying the company of Kagura.
“You're not having a good time, are you?” the bachelorette asked him.
“Not really,” Sesshoumaru merely replied.
“Well…” Kagura began, lowering her eyes in a seductive manner. “I can make it better for you.” She leaned toward him and slowly traced the curves of the well-toned muscles in his arm.
“Don't touch me,” Sesshoumaru said to her in his usual stoic tone, never once taking his eyes off of the road.
Kagura smiled slightly while leaning farther towards him, placing a kiss on his flawless cheek. “C'mon, Sesshoumaru.” She whispered in his ear. “Don't be shy; I know that you want me.”
Sesshoumaru ignored her as he quickly pulled the car to a stop and looked at the bachelorette with his smoldering, golden eyes. “Get out,” he ordered.
Kagura pouted but didn't budge from her seat. The bachelor continued to stare at her coldly, silently waiting for her to leave. Finally, she unbuckled her seatbelt and stepped out of the vehicle.
“But Sesshoumaru,” Kagura whined from outside the car. “How am I supposed to get a ride back to the mansion?”
“That's your problem, not mine.” Sesshoumaru said as he drove away, leaving Kagura behind in the middle of the city. Some men might like slutty, seductive women but for this man, he just can't tolerate them.

Kagura pouted angrily as she watched Sesshoumaru's car drove farther and farther away until it was out of her sight. Sighing, she held out her hand and stuck out her thumb. Time to hitch a ride back.

---------------------------------

Miroku opened his small, black briefcase and took out a thick stack of papers. “The concert tour will last for two weeks,” he said as he glanced over to the singer, whom was listening to him intensely. “You will be touring around Europe, stopping at certain cities and doing several concerts.”
Kagome nodded and took out her pen to sign the contract, agreeing that she would take full part in the tour. “Here you go,” she said as she handed the signed contract back to Miroku. “By the way, Miroku. Where are you going to be staying in?”
Miroku shrugged. “I didn't have time to get a room yet.” He replied.
“I can get you a room in a hotel near here,” the singer suggested.
Her manager nodded in thanks and turned his attention back to Sango, whom were still sitting on her bed and silently reading a book. Kagome saw this and smiled knowingly. “You like Sango, don't you?” she asked teasingly.
Miroku didn't answer but a faint blush grazed his face. Kagome grinned slightly and handed him a small slip of paper. “What is this?” Miroku asked as he read the numbers that were written on it.
“Her phone number,” Kagome said and winked at him. Time to play matchmaker.

However, their conversation was interrupted when someone knocked on the door. Sango stood up to answer it and soon, she came back with an envelope in her hand.
“It's for you, Kagome.” She said, handing it to the singer.
Kagome smiled in thanks and took the white envelope, eager to see what it says. She quickly ripped it open and inside, there was a smooth piece of creamy, white paper with a few letterings that said:
You are invited to a dinner date with Sesshoumaru at 7:00.
Dress elegantly.

Sango's eyes sparkled in excitement and her face broke into a wide grin. “Come on,” she said as she dragged Kagome into her closet. “Let's go find you a dress!”
After what appeared to be hours of searching, the two finally found the perfect dress for Kagome to wear. It was a long, black, strapless dress that hugged the curves of her body and reaches to her feet. It had long slits on both sides that went up to her thigh and showed off her shapely legs. The dress itself was simple yet elegant, perfect for the singer. Sango then pulled Kagome's hair into a sleek bun with strands of hair hanging loose on both sides to curl around her face. And for the finishing touch, she putted on a small amount of lipstick, a thin layer of eyeliner, and a tad bit of blush to accent her delicate features.
“You look wonderful,” Sango squealed, admiring her work.
“Thanks Sango,” Kagome said to her. “You are a great help.”
Soon, it was almost time for the date. Kagome pulled on a pair of black, high heeled shoes, did some last minuet touch ups to her hair, and after giving a quick bye to Sango and Miroku, she walked out the door and towards the parked limo that was waiting for her outside. As she was nearing the vehicle, the limousine's door opened and Sesshoumaru stepped out. The bachelor looked at the bachelorette and his cold, hard eyes softened ever so slightly.
“Good evening,” Kagome said as she gave him a sweet smile.
Sesshoumaru nodded in greeting. “Good evening to you too,” he replied in his smooth voice. He then proceeded to open the sleek, black limo's door for her to get in. Once the two had settled down comfortably at the back of the luxurious limo, the driver started the engine and drove them to an expensive restaurant.

---------------------------------

Unknown to the two passengers or the driver, someone was following them from behind.

---------------------------------

After a while, the black limousine arrived to their destination. Opening the door, the bachelor and the bachelorette stepped out and walked into the grand restaurant. Sesshoumaru took Kagome to a table neared a window that he had already made reservation for. The singer stole a quick glance and took a good look at him. Sesshoumaru was dressed formally in an expensive black suit and tie, and his long, silver hair were draped behind his back, making Kagome wanting to run her fingers through it. Indeed, he looked very handsome. `Bad Kagome, bad.' her inner voice yelled at her. The singer blushed as she realized that her thoughts were beginning to wander.
Sesshoumaru watched as Kagome seemed to have spaced out and her face turned from admiration to amusement, and then to embarrassment. He cleared his throat to get her attention again and it worked, as Kagome quickly snapped out of her thoughts and looked at him. “Yes?” she asked.
Sesshoumaru took a small sip from his glass of wine before saying, “Kagome, I am curious to know how you started your singing career.”
Kagome smiled slightly at the memories. “Two year after you left, I was singing for the school's choir when a music producer heard my voice,” Kagome answered. “We ended up working together to record a song. It became a big hit and as people called it, I was an `instant star'.” She stopped and titled her head curiously. “What about you, Sesshoumaru? How did you start your career?”
“I was heir to my father's company,” Sesshoumaru answered nonchalantly. “He died several years back and I became the new owner.”
“I'm sorry,” Kagome said as she lightly held his hand, lacing her fingers through his'.
“For what?”
“For not being there with you when your father passed away.” Kagome replied, tears gathering at the corner of her eyes.
“Don't blame yourself,” Sesshoumaru said, slightly taken back by her tears. “You won't have even known about his death.”
The bachelor tore his eyes away from her face and looked out the large, glass window. However, even if Sesshoumaru lived to be a hundred, he will never forget the image that he saw. On the other side of the window, there was a person in a black ski mask, aiming a small but deadly handgun at them. Quickly, Sesshoumaru roughly shoved Kagome from her seat and onto the floor while nearly at the same time, the mystery person fired the gun. The bullet broke passed the glass window and hit the space where Kagome used to be sitting. Had Sesshoumaru not pushed her down, the singer would have been shot. Immediately, screams of terror could be heard throughout the restaurant as customers recognized the haunting and frightening blast of gunshot.
“Oh my God,” Kagome whispered hoarsely to Sesshoumaru, her face paled in fear and shock. “Someone tried to kill us.”
“No, Kagome.” Sesshoumaru corrected, his voice were smooth and calm, covering the shock and concern that he was feeling. “Someone tried to kill you.”
