Chapter 01: Freedom

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha….though I would to like to… who wouldn't, hn?

Inuko sat cuddling herself in the long blanket. Her long straight silvery hair surrounded her still form and her bangs covered her face in such a fashion that her eyes couldn't be seen. her tear striked face was pale and her lips were pressed tightly suffocating her whimpers. She pressed a hand to her temple, she felt herself burning like hell.

“It's been so long…I want to be free” she eyed a pair of birds in a tree. A lovely couple singing to one another.
“How long has it been since he came to see me?”, she suffocated her cries once again.

The other mikos of the shrine would hear her and that would cause lots of troubles.
They knew somehow that she was different and it hurt, so much that it teared at her heart, to never be accepted, to be always different. She daily had to wear a sort of hood that concealed her white dog ears. It was something that made her feel as if the inheritance from her blood-lines was something bad and that had being the only thing she could be proud of until now.

She grasped the blanket and threw it to one side. Her hakama that hanged to be worn that very day, seemed the most unpleasant thing to contemplate just now. The full moon on the sky illuminated the room and gave a soft glow to her only possession, her white kimono that had been a present from her parents long before their death. She could finally wear it now, since its size had being a little big for her. An idea struck her with breath-taking force. She wanted to run away. She was starting to forget the scent of her beloved one's and the feeling of a forest in peace. She wouldn't allow that to happen to herself.

She was a grown-up now, she was approaching maturity at a rapid pace and when that happened the mikos would finally discover her most dreaded secret, that she was a youkai. The old miko, the only one who knew of her condition, had being her only friend and the only one that ever showed her any sort of love. She had died two days ago. It hurt to remember her.

On her final moments she had called her and in her last breath told her that her life would change drastically, to not be afraid. Not a big notice anyway, and as if she would be! She had never been afraid of anything, until now. Freedom scared her.

Apparently some member of her family had left her here to be attended for, and to be trained as a miko. Weird thing, a youkai to be trained as a miko! Je, it seamed a joke. Maybe she would never be picked up by her former family, she could stand this thought. She rather go on her own to find her own destiny that keep waiting here between people that hated her.

She had never understood why they hated her. It was true that she was very skilled as a miko, not that she had practiced much or even cared, but the other ones did seem to care. She could smell their envy, how their scents changed when they looked at her before averting their eyes avoiding her sight.

She hoped that somewhere she could find other youkai that would like to be by her side. A mate, someone to love and care for with all of her heart. Someone to raise a family with, to have pups…err…well, maybe someday. But even in that aspect she was not like the others youkai, that's why she had had to be trapped in this horrid shrine in the first place. She was not able to use all of her strength until she matured fully, and that would only be in her 18th birthday. Which was a month-away. Until that time, her strength was only a quarter of the real one and she had to depend of her guardians.

Beings she had created in special moments of her life, they were with her all the time. The older one was Namida, a great Dragon that controlled the water and that had been created when she was born. No-one could explain how she made these guardians that resembled somewhat of mononokes, because they had their own mind and powers not dependant of her own, but they still were attached to her by their soul.

Tying her pink obi around her waist she sighted. It had beautiful sakuras embroidered on its pattern. It was made of silk and according to Babaa- the old miko, it was of very good quality.

“I can't wait any longer. My destiny will be my own. And I will be free at last” she summoned Namida, whispering his name. A long slithering figure clouded in blue appeared in her room.
“Take me away. To the forest outside of this prison”
“As you wish, Inuko-sama” the huge dragon with iridiscent eyes inclined his head to let her climb up. Not respecting her wishes another form appeared at her side, it was her other guardian, Kuro.

Her paws were always surrounded by fire and so was the tip of her tail. Her red glowing eyes looked around checking there was no-one else hearing them. Kuro was very stubborn and unlike Namida she always questioned Inuko all of her decisions. They were opposites not only because of their powers but because of how they acted. Kuro was violent and passionate while Namida was peaceful and self-kept.

“Inuko-sama, leaving will expose you to many dangers…”
“Kuro, I have to go, or I'll die of sorrow in this dusky place!!”
“Have you even considered that there are other male youkai's out there that might want to claim you as their mate? Even if you don't want to?”
“I can tell them I don't…right?”
“It is youkai custom to do so, the strongest one wanting to take you will fight other opponents and that way he'll show you he can protect you.”
“I'll defeat him then!”
“..If he couldn't defeat you, he would never claim you as his mate…” this silenced Inuko.
“I don't care. At least that way I'll have a life! I'm dieing here! This is like being buried alive!” a tear run down her cheek.
Kuro shook her head.
“I love you; you know that as my master. I want what's best for you. I'll always follow you. So if you want to go on with this idea, I'll go too.”
“Thanks” she hugged the huge cat and mounted on Namida's neck. She signaled for him to go quietly. It was best this way.
`Good bye…I'll never come back here…' something Namida was saying made her jump out of her thoughts.
“What? What were you saying?”
“Where are we going to go? Do you have any idea?”
“Yes, I want to look for my cousin. My uncle's son, the hanyou, Inuyasha”

The sun was starting to rise above the tips of the trees of the forest. The secluded place were the shrine was hidden seemed to grow smaller by the second as her guardian pulled into the air. A new day, and a new life was about to begin for her. Her heart felt lifted at this thought, nothing mattered it was a new path that awaited to be walked.
