Chapter 07: Traveling
I've seen a few other fanfics and they all leave spaces between dialogues… Is it better for readers that way? I can't decide, so please review so that this fanfic improves for you!!
Disclaimer: Once again, I do not own any of Rumiko Takahashi's works… Who said we needed to post this every time? ¬.¬
“And when did she leave?” his deep cold voice made the young miko shiver with fear.
“We… believe that she left two weeks ago… Sir”
“You believe?!” he grabbed her by the kimono and yanked her upwards before tossing her against the wall effortlessly. He growled, he hadn't done that in front of other people for such a long time that he had forgotten the frighten the little poor humans felt when he displayed his youkai characteristics.
“Master, the others have no idea either” a little toad-like demon appeared by the door followed by a slim little girl.
“I see. Burn the whole shrine, Jaken.”
“Yes, sir” the toad planted his shaft in the floor and unfroze the face of an old man that send spirals of fires everywhere. The wooden panels of the houses caught fire instantly, forcing the priestesses to regroup in the lake's side to protect form the hot flames.
“Why are you doing this to us!? We did nothing!” one of them sobbed crawling toward Seshoumaru-sama.
“Shut up.” he took his feet away from her reach. “You're a despicable useless human. Your only job was to keep her safe and happy in here, since you did not; your useless life comes to an end”
“We did as we had arranged! She had food and commodity in here! We taught her the arts of miko!”
Yanking her hair upwards he bent down until his nose was very close to hers and deadly whispered:
“You are nothing to me. You are not dead because of what you did; keep asking for more and you'll not even have that. Rin, Jaken, come.”
When they left the temple and the sobbing raven woman inside, Seshoumaru abruptly looked towards the water cascade. He could have sworn that he had seen something shine in there, a blue serpent splashing in the now quiet as dead waters…
The girl in a very bright orange and yellow yukata scooped closer to the great youkai lord and that broke his concentration on the sky-blue surface. Planting a hand over her head he hurried her towards the forest at his high pace. His long flowing straight white silvery hair played in the wind surrounding his tall elegant figure while he walked, his left hand placed over the top of one of his katanas.
“Seshoumaru-sama, who are we looking for?”
“Someone I care for very much, Rin. Ask no more.”
The little girl nodded, although she didn't understand why she had to stop talking about something that seemed so interesting. Letting her pace slower she approached Jaken while he clumsily dealed with one corner of his robe that had caught fire. He turned around trying to catch himself and failing once more till he got dizzy and still his robe continued burning.
“I'll help at a price” she offered smiling.
“Help! help!” he screeched coming to her running desperately. She hit him on the head to still him and then ripped the whole arm away throwing it to the side.
“You ruined my robe!”
“I saved your life from being burnt. Now pay me”
“What do you want, kid?”
“A story”
“That's easy. I'll tell you the-“
“No, I want to hear the story behind the person we are looking for, the one Seshoumaru-sama cares for.”
“I can't tell you!!! He would kill me if I told you!!!”
“I you don't I'll set the robe on fire again!” she run to the burning cloth bringing it close to him and hushing him with the thing by his face.
“Nooo! I'll tell! I'll tell!” and with that Jaken threw the thing very very away from him. The brown eyed chick stood by his side toppling over because she was taller than him and very silent.
`That is a change' Jaken thought, since after she had recovered her life thanks to the Great Lord Seshoumaru's power she had gone rampant about her new ability to talk and done it unstopped at 24 hours a day. He could swear she talked on her sleep too!
“So?”
“Impatient…” he scolded “Well, it happens that…”
At the same time in Kaede's village, Inuyasha stood on a high branch of a tree looking into empty space and waiting for Kagome to finish dressing Inuko. In the past days she had recovered enough form the fever to stand form the bed but she still had high temperature. Kaede had gathered a miko robe for her to wear since her kimono had become rustled, dirty and bloodied in one of the peaks of her fever, even the priestess had said that never before she had seen something like this. The little girl had not whimpered once in the whole thing, he was truly amazed at her bravery; she only requested water once in a while and always clasped his hand tightly in hers. It broke his heart to see her like this, that day when she had recovered almost miraculously and talked by the river had seemed like she was perfectly fit… Kagome call made him return from his thoughts. She looked beautiful in her uniform, all his, he smirked at the thought. Yesterday when Inuko had recovered enough to sleep in peace, they had eloped into the wood for a quickly thing but Sango had worried about them and went to look for them this morning finding them tangled in his haori, nude and very disheveled. Kagome had turned all sets of red when he said that Sango's smell was at the place when they awoke. Every time the girls did eye contact, Kagome would blush and Sango would giggle, resulting in perplexed looks from Miroku and Inuko. Landing elegantly and swiftly, Inuyasha walked towards them.
“Inuyasha-onii-chan!” Inuko's greeting made him smile warmly, she was still a kiddo.
“How are you? Not hot?”
“Nope, I'm perfectly fine. Look how Kagome's robe fits me!! Look!” she displayed the white and red hakama proudly. She was using one of her cousin's mate clothes, she felt very happy since that was a proof that Kagome cared for her enough to lend her clothes. She hugged Kagome once more rubbing her cheek against hers.
“Calm down, Inuko-chan, or you'll get tired and it won't help the fever” Inuko nodded and sat next to Miroku. He grinned and offered her a chip that Kagome had given him and Shippo.
“Mmm..tasty…chips….” she managed to tell at the same time she ate.
“Yea, they are from Okaa-san's time” Shippo said undisheveled. Miroku stood frozen in place like they all did, awaiting Inuko's answer.
“Aha… salty… Like them.” she seemed not to have noticed the time thing. Kagome sighted relaxing once more while Inuyasha tilted his head to the side, marveling at how someone could give so little attention to what others said when they ate Kagome's future food.
“You are just like that with your ramen” Kagome whispered in his ears giggling. He wondered how she had known what he was thinking.
“Inuyasha, you haven't told me where we are going. Is far away? Will I see new places?” Inuko's excitement made Miroku smile, she was very innocent, and that and her illness prevented him from try ogling or groping her, no matter how beautiful she was with those deep green eyes, and the youkai stripes matching them that now run down her cheeks and the silvery straight silky hair.
“Not very far away”
“That's no answer!” she complied throwing him a chip in annoyment.
“He is like that aaalll the time” came Shippo's comment from his perch on her shoulder.
“Really? He used to be very sweet and caring when he was a pup, he hugged people all the time and went everywhere sticked to Sesho-”
“That's enough!” Inuko shut herself instantly at Inuyasha angry retort. Everyone just stared at him wondering.
“What did I say?” whispered she, completely puzzled. Shippo nudged towards her ear.
“They hate each other now. No-one knows why, even if every time they fight they leave without finishing the other” she gasped loudly and he put his hands over her mouth.
“Shh! Inuyasha ripped Seshoumaru's arm in a battle when he turned full form and lost control and Seshoumaru almost kills Kagome in another fight. It's serious problem so don't talk of him.” he waited until she nodded to release her feeling slightly superior because he knew all that.
Inuko was deeply troubled now. Her most beloved two people in the world, her cousins, hated each other. That wasn't good at all. She needed to find a way to make them come close to one another once more, like they were when they were kids. Of course, she knew that they used to clash because of their wild tempers and thick-headed natures. But even more than that, she was afraid of finding Seshoumaru-sama. At least for now, she was not ready to face him. She had so much to tell him, so much to ask of him, explanations, the truth behind her whole life… But she dared not.
“Stop daydreaming, brat, and get up already. We are leaving.”
“Oh! Okay, Inuyasha-onii-chan….” she stood very fast and a wave of dizziness swept her. She planted her feet in the floor trying to mask her uneasiness to them, wanting to worry them no more than they already were. Shippo grasped her hand, she couldn't tell whether it was because she had balanced awkwardly or because he simply had wanted to. Smiling she scooped him and cuddling him in one arm, marveled at his weightless form.
Kagome was waiting for Inuyasha to climb into his back when she realized the problems of transportation they were facing. Since Kirara, Sango's mononoke, could only take two humans on her back, where would Inuko travel? Inuyasha seemed to be thinking about this too because he eyed her dramatically.
“How can we do?”
“I've no idea, Inuyasha, I could stay behind in here and wait for you to come back…”
“No way, Kagome, you get in trouble enough by my side to be left behind unguarded”
“I do not!”
“You know you do, bitch.”
“Keh” her answer so like him made him chuckle in amusement running a hand through her hair and squeezing lightly the nape of her neck.
“What's wrong Inuyasha?”
“We seem to be having some accommodation problems, bouzu”
“Why?” Inuko's question brought their looks towards her. She stood embracing Shippo in her arms while her hair floated around in the breeze like silvery flocks in a stream.
“Don't worry, we'll find a way. I don't want you walking.”
“But Kuro will take me; I can summon her now that I feel okay again. She's real fast so she wont slower you down”
“Who the hell is that?”
“She's my guardian”
“Another freaky thing?!”
“Stop calling them that! I love them and they have feeling so stop it already!” her outburst brought the chills to Inuyasha, had it being his imagination or her emerald eyes had gone red for a second?
“Keh”
“Inuko-chan, is this being another dragon like the guardian you introduced to us before?”
“Well, not exactly, Miroku-san. Kuro is…well… you'll see. Shippo-chan, go to Kagome-san please.”
“Oh, Okay” he squirmed out of her arms and jumped to his okaa-san's already outstretched arms.
Inuko backed a few steps and closed her eyes, concentrating. She made a sign with her right hand over her chest and a tiny flames got fire in the tips of her every finger when she opened her hand in front of them.
“Spirit of fire and darkness! Kuro, release!”
A shadow took form at her side. It was a huge panther, the same size as the big form of Kirara. Her paws burned with never dying fire and the tip of her tail did too, while her eyes bled red, her pupils gold.
“Inuko, at last you released me! That good for nothing Namida went years ago!! What kept you so long!?” the outburst of the creature left gaping all of the crew.
“Don't be mad at me! I was sick you ungrateful beast!”
“Where you? Then it's the hanyou fault! How could you let her fall sick!?” she faced Inuyasha her eyes ablaze already.
“I- I-, I did not! It's not my fault and I'm getting her healed soon!”
“So she isn't already healed!?” she spun and standing in her too back legs she put her cuddled her big head in the crook of Inuko's neck, purring. Inuko patted her slowly.
“Don't worry. I'll be okay.”
“Of course you will! I'll make sure now that I'm free that he does his work as your leader!”
“Now hush, Kuro. I need you to help me”
“Of course, I'm here so tell me…”
