Chapter 2

I sigh, hating to have told some of my mother's closest friends that she is dead.
Yesterday had been awful and yet I feel closer to my mother now. I had agreed to help them but not today. Today is my day to explore and get used to the priestess outfit I had decided to dawn. It's roomy and flows nicely and from the look of it I'm an exact match for Kikyou except I've got my hair pull high instead of tied low.
I love the feel as I hook my Sais to the specially made belt Kaede had made me to hold them. Kaede was pleased with how I look, even more so when I had agreed to keep a bow and quiver of arrows with me for extra protection.
At Kaede's approval I had set off, now sitting beside the river in the forest, enjoying the sunlight filtering through the trees as I smoke a cigarette, a bad habit I had picked up in the U.S.
"What is that foul smelling thing you have," an angry voice asks, Inuyasha stepping out of the trees.
"A cigarette, want one," I ask, being nice and trying to share even though he didn't seem to deserve it.
"Feh," Inuyasha replies with disgust, me shrugging my shoulders and returning back to thought.
"Did she go painlessly," Inuyasha suddenly asks, pulling me from thought.
"Huh," I ask, not having heard him in my deep thought.
"You heard me," Inuyasha growls, my anger bubbling and a thought coming to mind.
"Sit," I yell, Inuyasha slamming into the dirt with an extremely loud thud.
"Why you -----," Inuyasha begins, cut off when a whirlwind picks me up and carries me off.
All I can do is cling to the person, who is moving so fast that I can hardly breathe at all.
When we stop, I quickly catch your breath and hop from the person's arms, flipping to a further away position. I set an arrow in the bow and point it at a man a few feet away from me.
"Don't come any nearer demon or I'll purify your ass," I growl, the demon looking surprised.
The demon has a wolf tail, me assuming he's a wolf demon. His brown hair is pulled back in a pony tail, his eyes a light, almost translucent blue. He wears a breast plate, what looks like a fur skirt, and fur anklets and wristlets.
"What's wrong, Kagome? Don't you remember me," the wolf demon asks, his stature arrogant as if no one should be able to forget him.
"I'm not Kagome. My name is Higame. Kagome was my mother," I reply, shock and then anger flashing in the demon's eyes.
"You're the mutt's offspring, aren't you," the wolf demon hisses, pinning me to a tree by my throat.
"My mother was raped. I don't know who my father is," I hiss with what little breathe I can manage to use.
Then the wolf demon drops me, tears coming to his eyes as he thinks of my mother most likely.
"Where is Kagome now," he asks, looking into my eyes with pain in his own.
"She's dead. She died in a car crash," I reply quietly, standing up and brushing my outfit off.
As the wolf demon falls to his knees, tears streaming down his face, I try to remember what his name and description is from my mother's stories.
Then it hits me, Kouga, the arrogant wolf demon leader. His arrogant appearance was a dead giveaway until he broke down in front of me.
Then Inuyasha comes rushing up, jaunting at Kouga's tears.
"Sit, sit, sit," I hiss loudly, rewarded with 3 loud thumps against the ground. "That will teach you to make fun of other people's emotions."
Then I start to walk off, taking calming breaths as I do.
I get back to Kaede's village in no time flat, chuckling happily as children run up and give me flowers, one little boy even giving me a hug.
I soon come to Kaede's hut, entering to a loud smacking sound, Sango fuming in a corner and Miroku smirking as he rubs a red hand print on his cheek.
When he sees me he walks over, taking my hand and giving me a devilishly yummy smile.
"Higame, you know of my fate and I was wondering if you would consider---," Miroku cut off by Sango bonking him on the head with her boomerang.
Miroku falls unconscious to the floor, me stepping over him uncaringly.
"So what is it that your boomerang is called, Sango? Mom told me but I'd always forget," I ask, trying to make conversation with Sango.
"Hirikotsu," Sango replies with a friendly smile, continuing to pet the sleeping and purring Kirara in her lap.
I put this information somewhere in the back of my mind and wonder if school is missing me.
"I've got to get home," I say to myself with a sigh, Sango watching me as I grab my stuff. "Tell every one goodbye for me."
Then without further thought, I walk from the hut, making my way silently to the well. I give one last look around and then jump through.
D**n, I'm going to look weird in this getup, I think, climbing out of the well and making my way into the house.
"Uncle Souta," I yell, hearing running feet and then my Uncle Souta is in front of me looking extremely worried.
"So you've found the Feudal Era," Souta says with a sad smile.
I nod my head with a lopsided grin, Souta chuckling a bit.
"Well get upstairs and do your make-up work for tomorrow," Souta then tells me, and then I'm off.
I do my homework, take a shower, and then fall asleep in the comfort of my own bed, dreaming of demons and jewels.
