Chapter 8
“3 Months Later”
I look around me when I enter the airport with a smile. I am supposed to only be 3 months pregnant, but I look bigger. Demons only bear child for 4 and a half months while humans go for 9 and by those calculations I should only bear child for 6 and a half months and not even that maybe because I have a forth demon blood in me, but I still look like I'm at least four/five months pregnant.
I had already told Uncle Souta seeing as how Inuyasha had spouted off his big mouth to Souta when he'd come through the well looking for me. I had not been able to wear my chocker either because it could mess with my children's growing process. So for the past 3 months I have had to wear a hat and either tuck my tail down my pants or wear long skirts.
I smile at the hustle and bustle around me, waiting for the cargo manager to pull around with my mother's tan Contour that I just couldn't bear to leave behind. I had decided to come back and have Uncle Souta help me watch my babies until I got out of school and then I planned on moving back to America to live in my old home where I would be close to friends.
Then the cargo manager pulls up, kindly putting my stuff into the car before helping me into the car. I say a warm thank you to him before pulling up next to another building which Kuno comes out of at a run, chased by two guards. He may still be small, but he'd gotten more mischievous.
I can tell that the guards are glad when I finally pull away with Kuno in the car. We drive the little ways that takes me to my mother's family shrine. I grab my bags and Kuno follows behind me as we climb the shrine stairs.
I walk inside and call out my uncle's name, waiting for him to come give me a warm welcome and then it happens. Souta comes out of the kitchen and starts babying me, taking my bags and making me stay off my feet. I just smile at him and let him know all about my time in America, Souta eating it up like candy to a five year old.
Then there's a knock on the door and Souta goes to answer it, leaving Kuno to cuddle next to me on the couch as I nibble on some crackers to settle my stomach after getting air sick on the plane twice.
Then someone is hugging me fiercely, my eyes wide when the person finally pulls away, Inuyasha standing in front of me with a glare on his face.
“What were you thinking?! If you really didn't want Kouga to know yet then you should have told me, but with you only being a forth demon, you're due date could be anywhere from next month to the next three months,” Inuyasha scolds, then his face softening after he sees that I'm alright. “I'm just glad you and the babies are fine.”
I go from shocked to feeling really happy to see my father again, as I hug him back tightly, smiling up at him when he lets me go.
“Are you ready to go back to the Feudal Era? Everyone has been worried sick about you,” Inuyasha asks me, his eyes pleading for me to say yes.
“Yes, Dad, I've missed everyone and I'd love to see them. What's new there anyway,” I ask, letting Inuyasha help me get up and Kuno following at my heels as Inuyasha then grabs my stuff and leads me to the well.
Inuyasha jumps into the well with my stuff and then comes back for Kuno and me, picking me up bridal style with Kuno sitting on what little bit of lap I have left.
Blue light surround all of us and the next think I know, we're jumping out on the other side and I'm being hugged by all my friends, shocked to see that Miroku and Sango are attached at the hip and even more shocking is that Sesshomaru and Ookami are as well with Rin in the middle of them both.
“What happened while I was gone? Did everybody go bonkers,” I ask with a laugh, listening as each told their story.
Apparently Sango and Miroku had made a fortunate mistake like Kouga and I had and now they are married and Sango is with child. Ookami had found Rin lost in the forest and had taken her in and cared for her until Sesshomaru had found Rin with her. They had fought a lot, but had finally realized they loved each other.
Everyone has someone except for my dad, Shippou, and me. By now, Kouga probably has someone, I think, Kuno nuzzling my leg at that moment, causing me to look down at him.
Its okay, Mommy. We'll be alright. I'll take care of your little ones, Kuno says to me in my thoughts, causing me to give him a sweet, sad smile.
Thank you, Kuno, I think to Kuno, him letting a happy bark out to show his appreciation at my thanks.
Then I'm lead away from the well by everyone, all of them ordering me into Kaede's hut to help with dinner while they get me situated. I happily agree, my feet already hurting from just the small time they had spent in my shoes that seemed to be getting tighter by the day.
I help with all the womanly chores that keep me off my feet most of the time and this goes on for about a month and a half before I get so big that all I can do is stay inside my own hut that Inuyasha had built for Shippou and me, me having taken over as Shippou's primary caregiver.
Inuyasha have taken up caring for me at this point along with the help of Shippou and a little of Kuno, Inuyasha the most aggravating.
“Higame, where are you?! You aren't in the living room where I left you,” Inuyasha barks through the halls, a mental sweat drop forming in my mind.
I hobble out of the bathroom with a peeved look on my face and I walk into the living room where Inuyasha is looking into the kitchen area.
“I was using the bathroom, like I always do,” I reply, having been very touchy lately and not having liked it.
“Do you want to go out on the front porch or should Sango and Ookami sit in here with their picnic,” Inuyasha asks, coming to my side to help to wherever my decision takes me.
“Let's sit outside and enjoy the nice shade in this hot weather,” I reply with a smile, Inuyasha picking me up bridal style and setting me in my rocking chair on the porch. “Thank you, Dad.”
Inuyasha smiles at me, telling me to holler if we need anything and then he leaves for to hang with Sesshomaru and Miroku, Inuyasha and Sesshomaru actually getting along now.
I just smile back and turn to Ookami and Sango, Ookami now pregnant and Sango at about a month and a half. We had gotten together every Friday since Ookami had gotten pregnant to enjoy each other's company.
“So how's everything going with Sesshomaru, Ookami, and how about you and Miroku, Sango,” I ask, looking at both girls as we start munching on our wonderfully healthy foods.
“It's going good with Sesshomaru and me. Sesshomaru has gone back to the sweet caring man that I've always loved,” Ookami spouts happily, munching on a carrot.
“I'm doing well with Miroku, but he doesn't seem to get that just because I pregnant doesn't mean he can flirt with other woman,” Sango replies, rolling her eyes. “Though, I've noticed that he's gotten a lot better.”
“That's good. Any reports on Naraku in these parts or are we luckily Naraku free,” I ask, still trying to keep updated on the happenings around the village.
“There's been very little sight of Naraku since he came around about a month after you took off and that's mainly because we now have all but 3-4 shards of the jewel, which are the only things that sustain his ability to control Kanna, seeing as how Kagura was able to get loose and is now helping us,” Sango replies, knowing all that's going on.
“Yes, I've noticed that she and my dad have been getting pretty chummy,” I say absentmindedly, wondering if Kagura would be my new step mother.
“You never know with Inuyasha. He's so hard to read,” Ookami says, not having known my father long enough or been enough like him to read him.
“It gets easier with time,” I say with a laugh, all of us laughing as we continue to enjoy our food and each other's company.
Then a scent distracts me and I sniff around, wondering why it seems so familiar and yet so unfamiliar at the same time.
It's your hormones, Mom. They mess with your senses, Kuno tells me, smarter for his age then you'd think he would be.
Thank you, Kuno. It's nice to know that, I reply, smiling down at Kuno before looking up to where following Kuno's gaze to where Kouga is standing looking at me in shock. The moment that I had been dreading was finally upon me.
“Hello, Higame. I see that you've . . . um . . . mated now,” Kouga says, apparently a little confused at how big I am.
I can't help, but stay quiet, not trusting my voice around him. I know that I care for him, but nothing more that I will admit and I refuse to put the burden of a child on someone that doesn't want it. All I do is give Kouga a nod.
“I'm sorry to bother you, but I need to see mutt face and the others,” Kouga says, apparently wishing more from me then being ignored almost completely.
This time I point in the direction of where the boys are at while glaring at Kouga, hating his cold and cruel terms towards my father and me. Not someone you would like as a father.
“They went far out that way. They should be way out of scent distance unless you follow the trail now while it's still somewhat fresh,” Ookami says, trying to keep me in my rocking chair where I belong.
“Hm . . . I see no reason why I should bother with mutt face right now. He should be back soon anyway,” Kouga growls, glaring right back at me.
“Why you arrogant son of a------,” I start yelling profanity at Kouga, stopping when I stand up and feel warm liquid flowing down my legs, my face going pale. “They're coming.”
Kouga's face goes pale when Sango and Ookami thrust me into his arms and grab the rest of the stuff, Kouga then following them to Kaede's hut where he is instructed to lay me down.
As soon as he steps outside of the hut, he faints from the smell of fear, anxiety, and everything else and he's brought right back inside the hut. I roll my eyes and use breathing exercises to decrease the amount of pain that the contractions are giving me.
It goes so slow, but then the pain is suddenly over and I have my twin babies in my arms, a little girl and a little boy. The little girl looks exactly like Kouga, except with white wolf ears and tail. The little boy looks exactly like me in hair and eyes, but his entire being rings Kouga, including his cute pointed ears.
“They're so beautiful. They look so much like they're father,” I weep, tears of joy running down my cheeks as the little girl coos sleepily and the little boy glares out at the world in wonder. “Definitely the little boy right here.”
“What will ye name them, Higame,” Kaede asks, cleaning up what little mess is left.
“I'll name the girl Kagome after my mother and I'll name the boy Kouga Jr. for Kouga's sake,” I reply both children asleep now in my arms.
“Ugh . . . what happened,” Kouga suddenly asks, rubbing his head as he sits up in a daze.
“You passed out because of all the strong scents in and around the hut,” I reply to Kouga, his eyes opening wide when he catches a glimpse at the little boy and girl I have in my arms.
“They look like . . . but they can't be . . . this has got to be a coincidence,” Kouga rambles a little, taking the little boy and girl when I put them in his arms.
“You can think what you like for now, but I need to wash up,” I reply, standing up and going to the hot springs with Ookami and Sango's help.
The two help me bath and get redressed in my old hakama and haori that I normally where, feeling better when I realize that I don't look like a fat cow anymore.
“Did anyone get a hold of my dad and the boys,” I ask, looking at Sango and Ookami.
“I sent out a villager, but how soon they'll find them is another thing,” Sango replies, walking me into my hut. “Now you stay here with Ookami and I'll have Kouga help me bring over the twins and the rocking cribs that one of the villagers made.”
Then Sango leaves, leaving me to sit with Ookami, who helps me get ready for a feeding, my breasts feeling as if they are about to burst from over inflation just about.
The sound of two small cries, well, more like one little cry and then one loud one, who I soon find out to be Kouga Jr., taking after his father with a large mouth.
Sango brings them both straight to me and they both quiet as soon as they have their mouths on my nipples, drinking away their hunger with my milk. Kouga blushes when he enters to see me feeding.
Ookami and Sango some how mysteriously disappear, leaving Kouga no choice, but to stay and help me seeing as how I'm still tired from birthing the two miracles that sit in my lap.
“So . . . um . . . where do you want the rocking cribs,” Kouga asks, me pointing out the way as I feed and Kouga taking the cribs in there. “Um . . . what did you name the little pups?”
“The little girl is named Kagome for my mother and the other is named Kouga Jr. and hopefully you can guess why, Kouga,” I reply, stressing Kouga's name.
Kouga goes as pale as a sheet and sits down on the makeshift couch before he totally passes out on it. I just roll my eyes and are none too surprised when Inuyasha, Sesshomaru, and Miroku walk in and pass the babies around before I put them down to sleep in their room across from mine.
“Did our dear friend Kouga find out who the father of the twins are,” Miroku asks, laughter in his eyes.
“Yes, he seemed quite shocked about this. He sat down on the couch and then passed out,” I reply, shrugging as I motion for all of us to keep our voices down because Kagome and Kouga Jr. are sleeping.
“So what are their names,” Miroku asks, not wanting to call them the twins all the time.
“The little girl is Kagome and the little boy is Kouga Jr.,” I reply, seeing Inuyasha's disgust at the name.
“Now I can see why Kouga found out. He must have asked what the little one's names were,” Miroku says with a chuckle. “Well, I must be off. I need to get home for supper with Sango.”
“Same here with Ookami. Good day, brother, niece,” Sesshomaru says and then both he and Miroku leave.
“Are you staying for supper here tonight, Dad,” I ask Inuyasha, a sheepish look coming to his face.
“Um . . . I kind of have other plans tonight. I'm . . . uh . . . eating with Kagura tonight,” Inuyasha replies with a blush, a content smile coming to my face.
“I hope you have fun, Daddy. Will you please tell Shippou to come inside for supper as you leave,” I ask, Inuyasha nodding and then leaving.
I go about my business, acting as if there isn't a wolf demon Prince passed out on my couch in the living room. I set the table for both Shippou and I and then I also set up an extra place for Kouga, setting stew in bowls and then returning to the living room just as Shippou comes bounding in.
“Wow, Mom, what happened to him,” Shippou asks, Kuno following at his heals as he enters.
“He found out about the twins being his and before you ask their names are Kagome and Kouga Jr.,” I reply smirking as I put food in Kuno's bowl and refill his water.
Then I walk over to the couch, sitting on the edge and brushing hair out of Kouga's face.
“Kouga, it's time to eat. You need to wake up now,” I croon sweetly, Kouga's pretty blue eyes fluttering open to look into mine.
“Was I dreaming or did I really just find out that I have kids now,” Kouga mumbles, a small smile coming to my face.
“You do have to beautiful children that look very much like you and they are both asleep, but you can go see them after you get up and eat the stew that I prepared for supper,” I reply, helping Kouga up.
We all sit down at the table and eat silently, Kouga looking a little too uncomfortable to enjoy small talk as of the moment.
By the time we're finished eating, the twins are crying out for another feeding and I ask Kouga to grab them and bring them to my bedroom while I change into my pajamas.
Kouga goes into the children's room to get them and I pull on a pair of pajama shorts and low cut tank top that I can just pull beneath my breasts as to feed Kagome and Kouga Jr., while still being comfortable.
Kouga brings the twins in not too long after and he sits next to me on my queen sized bed, having done a lot of modernizing to my small house. I start to feed the twins, watching them as they do so I can avoid Kouga as he watches them and me intently.
As soon as they are done feeding, I look over to Kouga to see him asleep. He looks just as adorable as the twins and I pull my blanket over him before taking the twins to their rockers.
Then I return to my own bedroom, Kouga still asleep with Kuno looking at him like he's some kind of strange species from another planet.
He fell asleep there while I was feeding the twins so we'll just have to all cuddle together to make room for us, okay, I think to Kuno, Kuno reply in a regretful yes.
Then Kuno and I climb into bed, me inches from Kouga and Kuno curled up on the edge of the bed. I lay there awake; looking at Kouga's sleeping form until I fall into a deep, peaceful sleep, content with my day.
