InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Sen Nen (A Thousand Years) ❯ Chapter 1

[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]

It took longer than I expected to write this.A friend from highschool passed away last week, as well as my professor's son.
Car troubles, biology tests, and a few other things.
I ended up with a case of bad writer's block, even though I know what I want to write.
So hopefully I didn't keep anyone waiting, haha.
*Key things to note, I changed some of the historical names to characters from the manga/anime.
Like Yanama Sozen (who is basically revered as a villain) is basically Naraku.
Also, I do not own InuYasha or any of the characters. They all belong to Rumiko Takahashi.
I just like playing with them, teehee.

So R&R!
Even if I'm only writing for myself, I don't mind.
I enjoy it. :)

"I want to know of you." He whispered, his claw tipped fingers tracing light circles in the palm of her hand. It was silly to think that InuYasha knew so little of her life even though he knew without a doubt that he loved her. It was easy for him, because his youki had decided for him. The way her scent beckoned to him and her aura so warmly wrapped around her.

"I'll never understand, how you know so little and yet I know so much of you my love." She grinned, her eyes laughing quietly as she stared at him.

"What do you know of me? It certainly can't be much. You've only witnessed roughly 8,000 sun sets while I've known 400,000. What could you know of a being as old as the dirt beneath your feet?" He had meant it teasingly, but he found truth in his question. She was so young. A measly 21 human years. He looked no more than 25 perhaps, yet he was forty times as much. Humans were so fragile. They wrinkled and withered with age, so quickly as if it happened within the blink of his amber eyes. It had not deterred him however, from deciding to claim her. His youki would never accept another and had she denied him, he would have wasted away. The reality of her fragile state however, did frighten him, even if he never confessed it to another soul.

"Perhaps you are right my lord. I'm but a simple girl. I eat at chaya like any other person. I'm weak and of flesh and bone. Yet I know of your womanly conquests. Even of the Duchess of Exeter and how you wooed her into your bed despite her marriage to her young husband. The wars you've fought have left scars on your skin, white lines that tell me of sorrow and rage. I know of your father, the strongest inu-youkai of all time, falling for a mortal woman who became your mother. I know of your temper and your quickness to act upon it. Your stoic brother and his cold stare. I know more of your life than any other, because I have always known you." Kagome answered so softly that another soul perhaps would not have felt the power behind her words. How easily she could bring up things not even the whole of Edo could have known, or even the world. She knew him, as if she had always been there from the moment he had been born and laid in his mother's arms. All he could do was stare at her, slightly astonished that she could prove herself so effortlessly once again.

And even after knowing all of that, you are of my own? After the women who warmed my bed at night and the ground I soaked with blood, you can love me.. How Kagome, could you feel safe with me, knowing what I am and what I've done?It was more of a rhetorical question than anything. He knew she cherished him. He could smell it on her and feel it when she was near. He still couldn't fathom why it was so easy for her to disregard his past, to sit on the soft mat beside him and give him that smile of hers.

My guardian, how safe I am within your arms. Wars rage around our home, yet as long as you're here, I know no harm shall be done to me. You are my dark angel, my black knight. The others, should they ever want to bid us apart.. I'd lay my life down on their greedy hands before they could do so. My love, no one could ever come between us. I am yours as you are mine. The Heavens shake with bitter jealousy just at the mention of our love. The clouds tremble, the Gods throw down their spears of light, and the skies moan from their weight. I shall always love you, my lord. My warrior. You protect my neck, just as I aim to protect your heart. Do not doubt me or my mortality. I am strong because I have known your strength. She grasped his hand that was still drawing loose shapes in the palm of her hand and raised it to her lips, kissing him softly. He closed his eyes, savoring the feel of her lips against his fingers. When he opened his eyes again, she was gone.

He was alone again. Sleeping on the hard ground. InuYasha snorted, sitting up as he dusted the dirt from his kosode. How silly of him, to continue dreaming in this way. He had been dreaming of their last night together ever since he had been gone. Every night. InuYasha sighed, rubbing his eyes with the fingers he had imagined her pressing to her pink tinted lips. It had been a month since he had been with her. His presence had been needed at the Imperial Palace, for fear that Yamana Naraku was going to attack them. He resented his nephews wealth and power. InuYasha was only acting under orders to move the entire family out and to the Muromachi district from Hosokawa Miroku. That had only taken a few days. So why was he still here? The riots were getting worse, so he had stayed to try and combat the raids that had turned the streets into a war. InuYasha was starting to fear for Kagome's safety however. In the morning, he'd just have to tell Hosokawa that he needed to return to her side. Kyoto was getting dangerous and he needed to make sure she was okay. He glanced upwards, brushing his silver hair out of his face as he watched the pale moon that was sitting in the dark sky above. He needed to go back to sleep, he knew.

Goodnight dear moon. The burden you carry must be so great, for you only to rise when the sky is the darkest. You surround yourself with bright lights, dotting the skies as the faint freckles dust her face. My love for her is endless. Just as your pale beauty knows no bounds. How brave you are, to share the same sky as the sun. Yet, how cowardly you hide from him, as the hare hides from a fox.” He chuckled, as he turned to his side, willing his mind be at ease so that hopefully he could rest before the sky became bright.

“ I miss him, as the sun misses the moon. Where do you think he could be now?” Kagome paced back in forth in the room, her violet kimono fluttering around her as she walked. Her dark hair fell in soft waves, framing her soft face that held such a worried expression.

“I'm sure he is fine dear one, It has only been one moon since he left.”  Higurashi Kayoko offered her daughter a smile as she sat gently on the mats below her. Out of all her children, Kagome had always been the most sensitive, though no one else would ever witness it. The way she could mask her feelings with such ease was often astounding, but when it came to InuYasha, Kayoko knew her daughter couldn't hold back her worry.

“Yes yes, but.. He was only meant to stay away for half a lunar face. No more than that.. I'm worried mama. It's getting worse here. What if.. what if he's stuck somewhere? What if the God's have taken him from me? They can be so cruel, to gift him and his love to me only to take it away. Oh mama..” Kagome continued her pacing at a slightly faster speed, chewing on the tips of her nails as her eyes started to shimmer brightly. What if something had happened to him? He was strong, the strongest male she had ever known, but even he was not immortal. If he fell to a blade, he would bleed just as a human would. These thoughts only fueled her worry, causing her mother to sigh heavily from her spot on the floor.

“Kagome. Do you remember when your father was away for three moons? I walked a million steps into the floor of the room we shared. This very room. Your worry is just, but I don't think it is needed. InuYasha is strong. Your bond is stronger. Would you not feel if he were gone?” Her mother hoped that this would make sense to her daughter. Kayoko knew little of mating between demons, but she did know that when one mate died the other felt their loss. She wasn't sure it would be the same for Kagome and InuYasha, since she was human, but she had a feeling she would know if anything befell him and he the same for her.

“I think..you're right.” Kagome's feet slowed until she was slowly rocking back and forth on the balls of her heels. She lowered her hands from her lips and smoothed her wrinkled kimono. She rubbed her eyes, which had begun so quickly to moisten. She would feel if he was no longer alive. They had mated, even though it was a demon tradition. He had given her marriage had he not? Even if he didn't ask it of her, so couldn't deny him something his blood would recognize. In her mind, Kagome believed that made their bond to each other stronger than any other; bound by youkai custom, bound by human practice.

She shook her head slightly, forcing a small laugh from her lips as she looked at her mother. She was being silly wasn't she? She made her way to move beside her mother when there was a loud noise near the front of her mother's home. He had made her promise she would stay here when he was gone, mainly because he feared others would try and destroy him through her. Kagome glanced quickly at her mother's face before she walked through the doorway and towards the sound. There he was, InuYasha. Kagome's smile grew as she rushed to him. Just as she went to fling her arms around him, she realized something was wrong. The smell hit her at first. Even for a human nose, it was a scent even she couldn't deny. It smelt of liquid iron that had been melted by the sun. She had come across it too many times when her father came home from battle, his kimono and armor usually stained bright red. Tears started to swell in her eyes when her mind finally registered the sight before her. Her white haired prince, though standing taller than any man before him, seemed so small with his arms clutching his stomach. His kosode was soaked with a deep red, the same red Kagome knew to be his blood.

“Inu... What.. Oh Gods.. What happened?!” She cried, taking his face gently in both of her hands as he stared back at her. Why was he smirking, when his life blood was seeping so easily through his clothing? InuYasha turned his face to the side, catching the palm of her hand with his lips.

“I'm fine, my love. I promised myself that I would be back this day and nothing nor anyone would keep me from breaking my oath. Though, I should perhaps get this bandaged before I ruin your mother's floor?” He kissed her hand before walking past her to the other room where her mother entertained guests from time to time. He sat down as Kagome called to her mother for clean water and cloth. InuYasha had no intentions of running into trouble on his way back, but it seemed that trouble had every intention of running into him. When she knelt beside him, his face lightened once more and he helped her shrug his blood soaked kosode to the floor. Kayoko came in long enough to hand her daughter the things she needed before bowing slightly to InuYasha and then leaving the room. He nodded his head at her before she left, then turned his gaze back to his mate as she started soaking a few of the rags in the warm water.

“Are you going to tell me what happened?” Kagome cleaned the slashes that marred his chest, and washed away the blood that continued to slowly weep from his skin. They looked clean and were more than likely caused by a blade than by claws.

“A group of bandits. I was only trying to make it back to you. I would have dealt with them had I not been in a hurry, but they attacked when I made my leave. Nothing too serious, my own. The wounds will heal in a few days.” InuYasha winced slightly as she poured water over his chest to cleanse the cuts one last time before she started bandaging him. He laid there, no longer feeling the sting from the slashes on his chest, but the touch of her nimble fingers gently working across his flesh. The determined and worrisome look on her face he had seen a thousand times, a look he hated to see play havoc on her soft features. Kagome sighed as she finished wrapping his chest, securing the bandages so they would stay in place. She knew the wounds on his chest were little more than a small cut on her finger, but seeing him covered in blood was something she could hardly stomach. He was her love, her only. She leaned forward, meaning to place a few quick kisses on his cheek when he turned his head, capturing her lips with his own. Kagome hesitated at first, but ultimately relented and gave the kiss she had been holding back for so long. When she finally felt him ease, she pulled back, slightly breathless. InuYasha was panting ever so slightly, thanks to his chest.

“Well. You're here now, so you'll rest. I do mean rest too. No moving around and opening your injuries up by being stubborn.” Kagome stood quickly, careful not to get her kimono stained with the slight blood on her fingertips. InuYasha only nodded gently, appeasing her for the moment. He wouldn't worry her any more for now. The thought of harm coming to Kagome terrified him greatly, so he could only imagine how she must have felt when she saw him like this, even if it were no more life-threatening than a punch to the arm.

“Agreed, as long as you stay with me for the rest of the night.” His request was almost a plea, something he knew Kagome couldn't refuse. She turned and left the room, and for a moment InuYasha believed that she had indeed refused. He sighed to himself and felt a frown grace his lips. He'd be alone for the night after all, he thought until he finally heard her enter the room again. She had changed from her fine kimono into a simple yukata and had a thin blanket in her arms. Kagome smiled as she made her way to his side, laying gently down beside him as she carefully laid the thin sheet across the both of them.

“I didn't think you were coming back for a moment.” InuYasha whispered as he kissed the crown of her head, smoothing her raven hair with one of his claw tipped hands.

“I'll always come back to you my love. Always.” Kagome sighed, snuggling against his side, careful not to bother his bandaged chest. InuYasha smiled and closed his eyes, wrapping his arm around her shoulders as he let sleep tug at his mind. His body welcomed it, her scent wafting around him as it overtook the iron smell of his blood that still tinged the room.
