InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Sesshomarus loss and gain ❯ I just want to know ( Chapter 1 )
[ A - All Readers ]
Yeah, well as you all know I do not own the characters of Inuyasha. The only thing I own is the writing style and the characters that you have never heard of. I wrote this about a year ago, havent finished it, but oh well. Enjoy, and please review ^_^
It had at least been 3 years since the spunky, free spirited, glorious Rin had passed away. Sesshomaru could still smell her as if she were next to him. To Sesshomaru it only seemed as if it were a few weeks ago when he found her dead in the woods. He could still feel her laying dead in his arms until he revived her with the Tensaiga. She had always been by his side ever since that day she had come back from the dead. She always had a smile on her face, the same crooked smile she had on when she found Sesshomaru. It was almost like Rin was destined to be with Sesshomaru. Before her death, Sesshomaru remembered hearing her talking to herself in the woods. Even though she had always said it she never got tired of saying it, even to herself "Im so glad I met Lord Sesshomaru. I wish to be with him forever." If Sesshomaru had been there right when she had died then he could have saved her, but if's were just if's to Sesshomaru. He knew that he could never bring back the girl from death even if he had found her dead body. Without Jaken knowing, Sesshomaru was searching for Rin's body for at least a week until it became hopless. Sesshomaru would have to go on without Rin by his side...Forever.

No one could see the sky because it was filled with so many clouds. These clouds were not puring rain, but snow. Glistening in the sky, snowflakes fell covering the ground with a coat of white snow. After a while there was about a foot of snow which almost covered Sesshomaru's follower Jaken.
"Brrrr...I..I'm so cold! I can hardly walk in this damn snow!", exclaimed Jaken while climbing onto Ah-Un's back before the snow covered him completely. "L...Lord Sesshhhhomaru, when are we going to stop to rest and get w-w-w-w-arm?" Jaken looked over Ah-Un's head hoping to get a response.
"....." Sesshomaru didn't answer such a foolish question. He didn't care if Jaken was cold or not. If he needed to get warm then he could just get off the dragon and make himself his own fire. Sesshomaru was not about to stop just for the little green demon.
Jaken sunk back on the dragon with a sigh. 'Why is lord Sesshomaru so stubern? He is much different without Rin here. Ohhhh if Only that demon didn't take Rin, if only I was watching her! Ah it's all my fault and I don't think Lord Sesshomaru has forgiven me yet!' Jaken thought to himself while holding his head in his hands going back and forth for warmth. Suddenly the two-headed Dragon stopped. Jaken looked up to see Sesshomaru had left.
"Ahhhh Where did Lord Sesshomaru go!? Not again! He has done it, he has finally abandon me! Is he just leaving me here to die by freezing to death! Oh I should have never asked him if we could stop! I should of kept it to myself! " Jaken statted to panic. He looked to his left and then to his right, but saw nothing. He turned around to find Sesshomaru sitting next to an oak tree just staring at him. Jakens foot started to twitch, his eyes were getting big, and he was turning pale.
"L-l-l-lord Sesshomaru you didn't abandon me!" Jaken exclamed running forth to Sesshomaru with tears comming out. Sesshomaru got up and stepped over Jaken. Jaken's top half was in the snow with his feet in the air. Ah-Un grunted a little bit then followed Sesshomaru. Jaken heard the dragons grunt and got up to follow, but they were to far ahead "Lord Sesshomaru, Lord Sesshomaru wait for me!" yelled Jaken from a-far.

"Whoa, the first snow of the season. Always such a beautiful sight." Said an old woman from a close by village. Looking at her grandaughter she smiled. "We better hurry up and pick these crops before they freeze and get bad."
"Ok grandmother" she started to look up at her grandmother for a few minutes, but it wasn't to long until she ran to pick the crops "The faster we go the faster this will go by." she yelled from a-far.
The old woman followed her grandaughter, but she soon lost her. "Child get out from hiding, my eyes arn't what they use to be." she yelled trying to hear where her grandaughter had gone. She listened very closely just for the slightest sound that she could pick up with her old hearing. She started to hear snow crunching behinde her so she turned quickly only to get hit with a snowball right in the face.
"Grandmother you should know me by now!" she laughed in the distance while running to get another sneak attack on her gaurdian.
"Oh so it's going to be like that now is it? Well then I'll be sure to get at least one hit on you!" the old woman bent down to make a snowball. Getting as much snow as she could in her fragile hands; she began to roll the snow into a ball which was about as big as her fist. Comming back up she got hit once again in the face by a snowball. "Now look what you have done child, you made me drop my snowball." she laughed being more aware then last time. She this time quickly made a snowball not being so careful and making the best one. She got up quickly and looked around. "Where are you?" she asked looking everywhere she could.
"Over here!" yelled her grandaughter jumping out from behind a tree and through it at the back of her grandmothers head. Instead of it hitting her, she doged it and through one at her grandaughter.
"Oh no!" she exclaimed as it hit her square in the face.
"I may be old, Kaiya, but im not that old." the old woman walked toward her grandaughter and gave her a cloth to wipe off her snowy face.
"I never knew that you could through that far grandmother, or that hard for your age." Kaiya looked at her still shocked that her grandmother, a 64 year old woman, had hit her in the face.
"Ha, Kaiya you should know me by now, shouldn't you?" she said sarcastically, "We should start to pick these crops now before they really do freeze."
"Oh, do we have to? I'm getting cold" Kaiya started to complain as if she were again five.
"Yes we do. We have had our fun now we have to do this or all the other villagers will get mad at us. Stop acting five Kaiya, you're 14 now, at least act your own age." she replied while picking the almost frozen crops.
"Grandmother if I acted my age yes we would be done, but I would be plain and boring." Kaiya shook her head "That just wouldn't be me."
"Oh your just as your father was when he was your age, and no doubting your mothers attitude." The old woman stopped picking the crops and just looked up at the sky for a few moments.
"I miss them too." Kaiya said while standing by her grandmother. "But we have to let them go."
"My child you are acting more mature than I." looking down at Kaiya she laughed.
"I know. I act my age when I have to, but then I have fun like a little kid the rest of the time." Kaiya laughed back at her.
"Oh look at this, all of the food is almost frozen! No more goofing around Kaiya we have to get these crops back to the village and fast!" she started to pick the crops as fast as she possible could.
"Right." Kaiya stopped messing around and picked crops with her grandmother. "The temperature will get colder here pretty soon"
"Then unless you want to freeze, pick these crops as fast as your little hands can."

"Naomi, Kaiya where have you both been? We thought you might have got lost or worse, froze." exclaimed one of the ladies in the shack where the food went.
"Why did you worry? We were only gone for a couple of hours." replied Kaiya, "And if you had been that worried, why didn't you come looking for us?"
"Kaiya shush. Sorry we got destracted." Naomi went to the table and set the basket of food down next to the others.
"Distracted by what Naomi?! Theres no excuse to let all the crops almost freeze and have the whole village worry about you two!" yelled the lady next to her.
"We were destracted by a demon. He was blocking the way to the fields, isn't that right child?" Naomi yelled back.
"Oh, Yeah. We would have been out there even longer if he hadn't smelt the roll I through in the trees." replied Kaiya looking at her grandmother oddly and quite shocked that she had lied.
"Then why didn't it smell you after he ate the roll?" argued the villager.
"Because lucky for us we had a whole basket full of then and through them all in different directions away from the fields, and after maybe he got cold and went somewhere else." Naomi sat down next to the table by a nice warm fire.
"Sure it did. Naomi you're not a good lier we all know that your lying!"
"Well if you all think im lying then why dont you go to the fields and find it? Leiko you just want the whole village to be against us dont you? Ever since we were kids you have always tried to kick me out of this village, and now since Kaiya is my grandaughter you hate her as well, hai? So if you don't believe us be my guest and go to the fields. All you will find, I assure you, is either a demon or the tracks it had made, and if you think we made the prints ourselves then hire the demon slayers." Naomi said all in one breath to Leiko.
"Fine maybe I will." Leiko said shocked that Naomi had yelled at her like that. She was usually a person who rarely yelled. She must have been really mad to have yelled that loud for that long.
"Come on Kaiya lets go home." she said calmly putting her arm around Kaiya's shoulder.
"Ok grandmother. Good-bye everyone." Kaiya turned around and followed her grandmother back home.
'I wonder why Leiko hates my grandmother so much? I want to ask her, but I might make her mad. She is scary when she is mad. Hmmmm, I will ask her I mean she can't be mad at me for long cause, well, i'm her grandaughter and sadly im probably the only one she has left.' Kaiya thought to herself. They finally reached home on the other side of the village. They didn't live in luxury. Their house was a beat-up old thing that had very little room in it. There was only one bed and thats the one her grandmother slept on for that she was old. There was a blanket on the floor by the fire pit where they cooked food, that's where Kaiya slept. Some days to get by they would steal food, but when they got the money they needed, they would leave at the place where they stole from. Picking crops gave them very little money so they each had other jobs that they did which also paid very little. Kaiya had about 4 jobs to do which filled up her whole day, that's why she always messed around because she didn't have time to when she was a kid. Kaiya picked crops, cleaned houses, served tea, and rarely went on journies with her grandmother to get supplies from other villages once every 2 months. Naomi, Kaiya's grandmother, only picked crops and went with Kaiya to get the supplies. That may sound like it would pay alot, but it dosn't.
"Did you bring some food from the food house, Kaiya?"
"Yes I did. You just rest and ill prepare the food, ok?" Kaiya replied, not to happy that she had to steal again. As long as she got paid she would pay them back secretly.
"Sounds good to me." Naomi got on the bed and waited for Kaiya to get done cooking.
"Grandmother, why are you and Leiko always in a fight with each other?" Kaiya asked while hiding her face just incase her grandmother gave her a dirty look.
"Well, lets just say she was always jealous of me." Naomi looked at the wall. She hated having to lie to Kaiya.
"What was she jealous about?" Kaiya asked confused.
"My good looks." laughed Naomi.
"Foods ready." Kaiya brought her grandmother her food on a wooden tray.
"Thanks my child. Isn't there any food left for you?" Naomi looked at the fire pit where the food had been cooked then looked at Kaiya.
"Yes, I ate mine while you were talking and while yours was cooking." Kaiya said happily.
"MMMM! This is by far the best you have cooked Kaiya!" Naomi said talking with her mouth full of the delicious food.
"Thanks grandmother. Well i'm going to go to bed." Kaiya yawned and went under her blanket and touched the cold hardwood floor.
"Good-night Kaiya."
"Good-night."
~*~
Th e night was dark and cold since winter had taken over. Kaiya was hungry and cold. Her one and only blanket was warm but the floor that she had to sleep on was cold. Her grandmother was right, there was no left over food for her to eat, but Kaiya wanted her grandmother to eat because any day could be her last. Kaiya had been pacing herself for her grandmothers death ever since her 64th birthday. She didn't want her grandmother to die, but she knew her time was limited. 'Oh im so hungry. I should have grabbed more food but then we would have to give even more money back if I would have.' Kaiya thought to herself as her stomache started to growl. 'I guess i'll just have to ignore it.' Kaiya turned over to go back to sleep.
It wasn't long until Kaiya heard something enter the house. She slowly turned her head pretending to be asleep and carfully looked around the room. Kaiya saw nothing except the snow flying into the house. She got up and went to go shut the door. Getting closer to the door Kaiya got colder. Kaiya got to the door and shut it until she heard something behinde her. Turning around Kaiya was grabbed by a masked person. Kaiya got out of the persons grasp she tryed to wake up her grandmother. No use her grandmother had passed away.
"Grandmother wake up!" yelled Kaiya shaking her grandmothers body. From the corner of the room Kaiya could hear a slight laugh.
"That won't work Kaiya. She is dead; i'm just wondering why you arn't."
"Who are you and what do you mean?" Kaiya let out a few tears then stood up to face the masked person.
"I wonder why you dont recognize my voice." slowly taking off her mask Kaiya became scared of who it could be.
"Leiko!?" Kaiya whispered but leiko was still able to hear her.
"Yes it's me, Leiko." she laughed in place
"What have you done?!" screamed Kaiya
"I know what you two were doing. You steal food and pay back later. Don't think I didn't see you stealing the food earlier tonight. But you simply grabbed from the wrong basket of food. You see, I poisoned that food you grabbed and you foolishly took that poisoned food. Naomi must have eaten it. I can see that you havn't." explained Leiko
"What...you wanted to kill me and my grandmother? But why?" Kaiya started shake her head; wishing that this wasn't happening.
"Because everyone in this village loves you and feels sorry for you but they have yet to learn that you steal everytime you get the chance to. You know as much as everyone else knows we dont steal in this village and whoever does is exiled." remarked Leiko giving Kaiya a deadly glare.
"But you have only met your plan half way...what do you expect to do with me?" Kaiya looked up from the ground into Leiko's deadly stare.
"Well I didn't think that both of you would still be alive so let me think for a moment.....Oh I got it." Leiko grabbed a potato sack that was next to the door. "Here's how it will go: You were mad at your grandmother so you killed her and ashamed of your wrong doing you ran away and froze in the woods from the harsh winter cold." Leiko's stare became even more deadly to Kaiya.
Kaiya began to back up against the wall. ' what am I to do? scream? No, the wind is to strong for anyone to hear me.' Leiko came close enough to Kaiya that she grabbed her and through her in the sack. Dragging her as far as she could go in the woods, she finally put down the sack and ran as fast as she could back to the village to finish her plan.
~*~
Kaiya managed to get out of the back by biting through it. The temperature was getting to cold for her delicate skin. She began to slow down shivering every step that she had taken. Holding her arms across her chest gave her some warmth, but it wasn't going to last to long. If the snow wouldn't have covered up the tracks that Leiko had made then she could have found her way back to the village. Not like she wanted to go back after what had happend, but it was the only place warm.
Kaiya began to slow down to where she was at a crawl. Her skin had started to change colors like blue and purple from the snows coldness. Her body started to become numb and she came to a point where she could barely move. She looked around for any sort of shelter, but she couldn't see in the icey, cold, snow storm. 'Just a few more minutes until I become totally frozen...' Kaiya started to cry, but before her tears fell down her cheek they froze. 'Whats that? I must keep going. Grandmother give me your strength to keep going please!' Kaiya stopped crying. The thought of Leiko killing her grandmother and trying to kill her brought Kaiya to a thurst for revenge. 'I promise you grandmother, I will get revenge for your death.' "I PROMISE YOU!" Kaiya yelled out into the wind.
Kaiya was still crawling into the snow when she arose. She saw a hole in a tree so she began to crawl through it. She wasn't able to fit so she used the last bit of her energy tearing off the bark that kept her from life and death. She finally made it through the bark and into the tree. The tree wasn't that warm but it was better than outside. Once she sat inside the tree she passed out. Kaiya would have to somehow fight the winter cold in her sleep to stay alive.

"Man we have traveled a long time without resting, haven't we Ah-Un?" Jaken said while climbing on top of the two-headed Dragon.
Ah-Un kicked Jaken off before he could even get half way on. Jaken was launched in the air and fell on the ground. After landing, Jaken jumped in the air from the snow "AHHHHH COLD!" exclaimed Jaken. "Ah-Un I will rest on top of you. I dont care if you're tired." Jaken ran back to Ah-Un and started to move back and forth trying to trick the dragon. He went to the left then to the right. Jaken tried to fake to the left and go to the right but Ah-Un stoped him.
"Damn you Dragon let me ride on your back" Yelled Jaken starting to get unpatient.
Jaken got his staff and blew fire at the dragon. While the fire burnt out, Jaken took the staff and climbed up the dragons side. When Ah-Un could see again, she again launched Jaken in the air. Ah-Un looked in the air and watched him fall. In the Distance Jaken hit a tree. He slid down and the tree and started to rub his aching back. "Damn that dragon. I'm going to give it a piece of my mind when I see her again!" Jaken ran over to another tree and kicked it as hard as he possibly could.
"Ahh my foot!" Jaken began to rub his foot when he noticed that the tree he kicked was hollow. He looked inside the tree only to find something mysterious.
"Lord Sesshomaru, Lord Sesshomaru come quick!" exclaimed Jaken jumping up and down pointing at the tree.
Sesshomaru was far away from Jaken because while he and Ah-Un were fighting, he moved on. He heard Jaken's screaming echo. Sesshomaru turned back and followed Jakens voice, though, he could care less. Sesshomaru just took his time instead of hurrying to where Jaken was. Sesshomaru would not hurry for anyone.
"What do you think this is Lord Sesshomaru?" asked Jaken
They couldn't really tell what it was. It was covered in bark and some sort of ragidy clothing. Sesshomaru started to remove the bark from the tree and he took off the rag. To Sesshomaru's suprise there was a girl in the tree.
"Is she dead my Lord?" Jaken stared at the girl in the tree. " She couldn't have made it through last nights storm."
"She is alive." Sesshomaru said as he turned around to leave.
"Lord Sesshomaru we can't just leave her here. She will die!" Jaken jumped up and down trying to pursway Sesshomaru to reconsider.
"If she made it through the night then she is lucky enough to make it through the day." Sesshomaru looked towards Jaken.
"Please my Lord she will not make it out here. The snow has stopped falling for today and the demons will be comming out. She might get eaten." Jaken could care less about the girl but he wanted Sesshomaru to forgive him for not watching Rin. "Please My Lord Reconsider."
Sesshomaru went up to the tree and took the girl out of it. He placed her on Ah-Un and started to walk away. Sesshomaru just wanted Jaken to shut up before he continued the conversation.
Jaken looked suprised that Lord Sesshomaru actually took the girl. She had blonde hair and was about 5'4 with white skin. 'I wonder why her skin changes colors at the knees. Could she have been abused in her village? Is that why she ran away?' Jaken thought to himself for a moment. "Not again! Lord Sesshomaru wait for me!" Jaken ran after Lord Sesshomaru.
'This really must be her lucky day...' Sesshomaru thought as he also wondered why her skin was purple and blue on her knees and elbows. 'She must have been crawling in the snow for quite a long time to have that badly of skin.' Unlike Jaken, Sesshomaru was actually smart. He didn't just assume; he mostly knew. Sesshomaru figured that she was crawling in the snow for that the girl's tracks were still in the snow almost covered but not quite.
~*~
Kaiya began to wake up. She slowly opened her eyes that were once frozen shut. Slowly, she got up and looked around. She was right next to a fire which melted the snow that was surrounding her. The grass was dead all around where the snow had melted. The trees were covered in snow and the air was fresh. Everything around her seemed so beautiful. Kaiya looked behinde her to see a frozen waterfall. 'Thats so beautiful.' thought Kaiya.
Kaiya looked around a little more and saw footprints in the snow. One was normal sized the other was a very small footprint and next to that were huge footprints bigger than the other two. Kaiya looked at her clothes but they had changed. She had a white with ice blue markings Kimono on. Under the Kimono were her regualer clothes.
"Lord Sesshomaru what are you going to do with the girl?" asked Jaken while looking up at Sesshomaru.
Kaiya pretended like she was sleeping so that she could hear the conversation. She was scared but she knew that these were the ones who saved her. 'What if it's a demon who wantes to eat me? I better prepare myself to run.' Kaiya was planning to escape if she heard the words: I, Will, Eat, Her, or any other words that meant eating her.
Sesshomaru saw the girl fall back down to the ground. 'She must have heard Jaken' he thought.
"Nothing." Sesshomaru replied.
Kaiya heard what Sesshomaru had said and she got up from her "sleep" and just stared at the fire.
"You're awake." Jaken said to Kaiya.
"Yeah. If your the ones who saved me then...Thanks." Kaiya held her knees up to her chest still looking at the fire.
"You don't seem to enthusiastic about being alive." commented Jaken.
"Oh no, don't get me wrong, im happy to be alive it's just the price I paid for being here right now." Kaiya turned her head wanting to cry but she was to ashamed even to do that.
"What do you mean 'a price you paid'? asked a curious Jaken
"My Grandmother died by a woman named Leiko. She poisoned the food that my grandmother ate but I didn't eat any of it. She was going to make it look like me and her both died from a natural cause which would have been freezing but she came in my home and found me still alive and my grandmother dead like she had planned. She put me in a sack and dragged me away from the village making it look like I killed my grandmother and ran away. I almost died in the storm but I found a tree and I riped the bark off to get in it." Kaiya said with every word being painful.
Taking no sympothy for her loss, Sesshomaru just turned around to leave. "Lets go."
"Girl get on top of AH-Un's back." ordered Jaken.
"Don't call me girl. my name is Kaiya, and whose Ah-Un." said Kaiya confused
"Well, Kaiya, the dragon is Ah-Un. Now hurry up and get on top of her before we lose Sesshomaru for good." Demanded Jaken looking just to make sure Sesshomaru was in sight.
Kaiya struggled to get on the dragon because she had never ridden a dragon before. She finally got on top and they started to head out.
"Wait for us Lord Sesshomaru!" yelled Jaken at the top of his lungs.
'Sesshomaru.' thought Kaiya as they followed behind him. 'Grandmother I will keep my Promise. This has only just begun.'
~*~
'How long have I been riding on this thing? If I would have known that I would ride this long, I would have just stayed in the tree. No wait, that's not true. If I would have stayed by the tree, I mean if they hadn't found me, I probably would be dead right now. Also I would never get to avenge my grandmothers death.' Kaiya was in to deep of a thought. She haden't noticed that Jaken had been trying to get her attention for the last couple of minutes.
"Girl are you there?! Answer me Girl! I said answer me!" Jaken shook his fist in the air while side stepping so he wouldn't lose Sesshomaru like the other times. "Girl just..."
"Don't call me girl! I told you already, my name is Kaiya not girl." Kaiya turned and looked at Jaken with fury.
"Well I wouldn't have to call you girl so many times if you weren't up there day dreaming!" Jaken yelled back. Jaken wouldn't have even thought of telling Sesshomaru to bring the girl if he had known that she would be this furiating. Even if he did know he would still have to because he thought Sesshomaru was mad at him for not stopping the demon from taking Rin.
"Well sorry! There is to much going on right now so sorry if I was just thinking about the past!" Kaiya looked down on the Dragons back. A lot has been done in the past day. That day had seemed to be the longest day of her life.
"That's all in the past...Get over it." Jaken looked at her but then soon turned away for what he had said.
Kaiya turned her head the opposite direction of where Jaken had been side stepping. 'He is a jerk, but he did save me or was it Sesshomaru? Oh well I do have the right to pick him up by his litte neck and throw him! That wouldn't solve anything. That would just make me as bad as Leiko, and I can't be like her. But how else am I suppose to get revenge for what she had done?' It had been at least 5 minutes until Kaiya decided to break the silence, "What did you want to talk about anyways?" She knew it was a mistake that he had said. 'Men...they just don't think before they say.'
"Oh right. As you know we have been traveling a long way in this cold weather."
"Yeah your point."
"I'm getting to that just hold on." Jaken cleared his voice to speak "We are going to rest at a place called Teinobi cliffs. There are a lot of demons there who will try to kill you."
"So, it's not like you guys are just going to let me die. Are you...?" Kaiya began to worry. What if they had just brought her along to feed to a demon they were in debt to. Was she a human sacrifice?
"Why would you think we would let you die." questioned Jaken.
"Well i'm not to sure about that Sesshomaru guy but you seem very weak."
"WHAAAAAAAAT! I am far from weak i'll have you know! I have killed many demons with the staff of two head!" exclaimed Jaken. He started to turn red with anger. Yes he was small but to him he thought that as one of his advanteges.
"Well whenever you're left behind from Sesshomaru you scream and yell for him to wait up for you, and what if you didn't have that staff thingy? You would probably die. No offense." Kaiya was just getting him back for what he had said to her earlier.
"Why you! I'll make you feel the wrath of the staff with two heads." Jaken began to point the staff at Kaiya
"Jaken stop." Sesshomaru said with a calm voice; not even turning around to look the little green demon in the eye.
"Whaaa... Yes Lord Sesshomaru." Jaken layed his staff back to its regular position. 'What am I doing? Im already in trouble for Rin. I shouldn't start another grudge by hurting Kaiya.' Jaken looked at the ground while talking in his head. It wasn't like Sesshomaru to defend someone he had just barely met.
"Jaken it's all in the past now...get over it." Kaiya said sarcastically.
Jaken looked at Kaiya with a disgusted look on his face. "Just because Lord Sesshomaru is pretecting you dosen't mean you can take that to one of your pathetic human advanteges. Why can't you be more obidient like Rin was?!" Jaken quickly covered his mouth. He was never to speak of Rin in Sesshomaru's presence.
Sesshomaru stopped. Jaken started to worry about what he was going to do to him.
"Who's Rin?" Kaiya knew it wasn't the perfect time to ask but she wanted some answers from Sesshomaru. She had only heard him speak about only 5 words since she had been traveling with him.
Sesshomaru ignored Kaiya's question and began to walk again. 'Why didn't Sesshomaru hit me? Was it because of the girl? Once Rin had died, Sesshomaru always use to hit me...Then again I do make stupid mistakes like that. Maybe.. maybe he thinks that Kaiya is the new Rin... Not like Rin is old or anything but still.' Jaken took a sigh of relief as he began to walk after Sesshomaru.
"Seriously who's this Rin girl?" Kaiya asked again. 'Why is he so stubberd to answere my question?'
"Kaiya just drop it. If Lord Sesshomaru doesn't want to talk about it then leave him alone." Snapped Jaken.
"No, I wont drop it. I want an answer, and not from you Jaken. I want one from him." commented Kaiya. She started to get frustrated with the little green imp.
"She was a girl. Now drop the subject." Sesshomaru said without hesitance.
"Was she your wife or something?" Kaiya wasn't about to drop the subject. She had gotten that Rin was a girl. Now she wanted to know what important roll she played because Sesshomaru acted even more weird than he had before.
"No." Sesshomaru was starting to get tired of Kaiya talking about Rin. 'I could never marry a human. Rin has so far been the only acception.' Sesshomaru hated to think of Rin. After she had left this world, Sesshomaru never really thought of her that much anymore, but she would still pop into his head which he hated.
"Kaiya just drop the subject. Can't you see that Lord Sesshomaru dosn't like you talking of her?" Jaken began to walk infront of the dragon that Kaiya was riding on to show that he was being more powerful than she.
"No, I can't see that he doesn't like me talking about her. He doesn't even look at me straight in the eye when he is talking to me!" Kaiya started to squint her eyes giving Jaken a dirty look.
Sesshomaru was growing very impatient, He was getting tired of Kaiya's attitude. He turned around and ran toward Ah-Un stopping right before he touched the dragons head. Sesshomaru stared right into Kaiya's Hazel eyes. "Is this what you want?" Sesshomaru gave Kaiya a deadly stare. Sesshomaru's stare could make almost every heart stop beating, but he didn't use his best stare. His stare still scared the crap out of Kaiya, but she knew she had to try and show no fear or she would feel powerless around him.
"Yes it's alot better." commented Kaiya giving him a dead on stare. Her stare didn't even scare Sesshomaru the slightest but then again nothing ever did.
Sesshomaru turned back around and started back to where he was before the whole scene occured.
'How was she not scared of Sesshomaru? He wasn't even looking at me and I was scared! Usually humans cower even without him staring at them. He even scared them by giving them the slightest look.' Jaken began to wonder what made this girl so unafraid of him. Was it the thought of her grandmother being dead? 'Eh, whatever it is, she needs it if she is going to travel with me and Lord Sesshomaru. Just like Rin was before she died. Rin wasn't scared of Sesshomaru either. What are these Humans comming to!?!?!'
'How did I make it through that? I have never acted this way with anyone in my whole life. What is changing about me? Why do I have this urge to just kill something? This anger, is it the anger inside of my once pure heart that tortures me so? I feel as if someone is here watching me but I know that it couldn't be my grandmother, she is too nice for this behavior.' Kaiya was confused yet excited about what she had just done.
~*~
After a few hours, they had arrived at Teinobi Cliffs. The area was foggy all around. When you looked at the surrounding, things would disapear from about 10 feet from where you were. It felt like you were in a tank because all around you was fog; except the ground which about looked the same as every step you took. There was no snow on the cliffs because it was so warm. 'Is there a volcano near by? If not then why is the snow gone?' Kaiya had never been to this place nor had she heard of it. Sesshomaru was out of sight, but they knew that he was there just a little bit more ahead. Jaken was by Ah-Un's side while Kaiya was riding her.
"I'm so tired of sitting on this dragon. Can't I get down and walk or something?" Kaiya's legs were stiff from riding the dragon. She had been riding her for the past 3 hours.
"Not yet Kaiya. When we find a place to rest then you can get off the dragon." answered Jaken.
"Well when we stop to rest then i'll still be sitting down. I'm so tired of sitting. Plus my legs will stay tightened if I don't get up and walk around. If I walk they could get better from the frost bite." argued Kaiya
"Oh just stop bickering already. When we get out of the cliffs then you can walk ok?" Jaken was starting to get annoyed with her. She complained way to much.
"Fine. When do you suppose that will be?"
"I don't know. Probably in the next few hours." declared Jaken
"In the next few hours! Thats going to be way to long!" yelled Kaiya starting to throw a fit just like she had with her grandmother while gathering the food for the village.
"Stop acting so young. Rin didn't even act like this and she was younger than you by a few years." Jaken slapped himself in the face for that he had brung up Rin in Sesshomaru's presence.
"Ok, im hearing Rin this Rin that. Who is Rin and why do you keep bringing her up?" She was getting tired of always hearing of this Rin girl and how Jaken always compared Rin to her.
"She is nobody." Jaken turned and faced the front so that he wouldn't crack under pressure from Kaiya's eyes.
"Yeah right. If she was nobody then you wouldn't bring her up all the time, and what makes this Rin so much better than me. From what your telling me she is just a perfect little angel who never does anything wrong!" starting to get frustrated, Kaiya jumped off of Ah-Un's back and ran infront of Jaken so that he would tell her about Rin.
"Get back up on the dragon Kaiya. There are demons in this area of the cliffs!" Jaken pointed to the dragons back hoping that Kaiya would follow his orders and go back up.
"No, not until you tell me who she is." demanded Kaiya.
"Kaiya, get back on Ah-Un!" Jaken repeated
"No im not going to..." Kaiya looked up in the fog and saw Sesshomaru jumping over her head. She followed his movement of where he was going. Soon he disappeared in the fog. It was Silent for a few seconds until a Demon head fell right where Kaiya was standing. Kaiya jumped out of the way before the demon head could hit her.
"What was that?" questioned Kaiya.
"That was a serphant demon. Lord Sesshomaru had just saved your life again. You should be greatful." Jaken liked speaking highly of Sesshomaru. Every chance he got to please Sesshomaru he would.
"Thanks Sesshomaru...I guess." Kaiya held on her arm with her other hand. That was the closest to an apology that she would go.
"Kaiya how dare you talk to Lord Sesshomaru like that! He is of a higher rank than you and I, therefore talk to him that way." Jaken shockingly said.
"What do you mean higher ranked than me? How is he so much of a higher rank of me that I need to talk to him like you do saying Lord before his name?" Kaiya looked at Jaken raising one of her golden eyebrows.
"Have you never heard of Lord Sesshomaru before? He is the ruler of the western lands!" Jaken's eyes were almost as big as his head. With every word that she said he became more shocked.
"Nope. I've never heard of Sesshomaru before, and if he was the "ruler" of the western lands then why isn't he taking care of any of it?"
"Why it's his land. He doesn't have to." replied Jaken.
"If it was his land then why does he let humans live on it? Demons don't keep humans on their land unless they're for eating in which I clearly know that he doesn't eat humans!" yelled Kaiya. Kaiya was getting very mad at Jaken and Sesshomaru, even though he haden't done anything to her.
Jaken didn't answer for that he had nothing else to say. She did have a point, but it WAS Sesshomaru's land.
Kaiya climbed back on Ah-Un and followed Sesshomaru once again.
~*~
Ah-Un stopped and laid down for a rest. Sesshomaru was a little bit far ahead but Ah-Un knew he had stopped because she couldn't hear his footsteps anymore.
"Oh finally a place to rest and run around!" Kaiya was so excited to run for a little while. She had been riding Ah-Un for so long, not to doubt that she really had to go to the bathroom.
"Where are you going Kaiya?" asked Jaken.
"None of your business." Kaiya Replied with a grouchy tone.
"It is my business! Where are you going?" Jaken was going to keep asking until he got an answer.
"Fine if you must know im going to go to the bathroom. There happy now?" Kaiya ran into the woods to find a spot, but not traveling to far or she would be lost in the fog.
Kaiya was comming back but she was destracted by a watermelon. 'How has this survived the winter's coldness?' It wasn't like plants to stay in this good of a condition during winter. Kaiya picked the watermelon and headed back.
"What took you so long?" Jaken was demanding to know. 'If she had been gone any longer Lord Sesshomaru would be really mad at me.'
"Oh I just found probably the last watermelon of the season." Kaiya dug her nails into the watermelons shell and pieced the shell apart until she could reach the juicy food inside of it.
"Do you guys want some?" Kaiya asked politely.
"No unlike you humans, we can last without food for a long time."
"Ok it's your loss." Kaiya began to eat the watermelon right infront of Jaken just to make him feel like he was missing out on something. "So why did we have to come here? Out of all the places why this one?"
"I don't know,I just follow Lord Sesshomaru wherever he goes." Jaken felt proud of himself for a moment. Just to be with Lord Sesshomaru made him feel like he was also powerful, but not as powerful as Lord Sesshomaru of course.
"Come on Jaken tell me. You have followed Sesshomaru for like ever. You should know what he is up to by now."
"You are quite right, but I actually have no clue what he is up to." Jaken looked Kaiya straight in the eyes just so she would know that he was telling the truth.
"Oh, ok then." Kaiya was about half done with the watermelon because it was a very small one; but still big enough to fill her stomache with sweet sweet food.
'Oh my Lord. I do know why he is here. This is the exact place Sesshomaru left me with Rin 3 years ago, and...and Kaiya probably took that watermelon from the exact patch Rin got hers from. Is he here to mourn for Rin or is he here just to remember her. Maybe he is here just because, he probably forgot that this was the place he left me and Rin, but knowing him he knows.' Even though Jaken now knew, he wasn't going to tell Kaiya because Sesshomaru might overhear him talking about Rin. Sesshomaru always knew what Jaken was talking about even if he whispered.
"So when will I learn about this Rin girl? I can see that she was really important to both you and Sesshomaru since you keep talking about her and since he is all weird when her names comes up." Kaiya was really eager to know about Rin. She really, really wanted to know.
"You will learn slowly about her if you're even with us that long." Jaken thought that she would never learn. He thought she would leave to another village because this life that Rin used to live would be to hard for her.
"What do you mean 'if you're with us that long'?" raising an eyebrow she tilted her head a little and looked at Jaken all confused.
"Well I personally think that you wont be able to make it out here with us that long. You'll probably think it's to hard and go back to a human village where life is pretty easy like it was before the whole grandmother thing happend." Jaken felt pretty confident that she would leave soon.
"An easy life?! I have not had an easy life. Do you even know what I had to do for me and my grandmother to survive? I had 4 jobs which took up my whole day. I had no time to play as a kid because both of my parents passed away when I was 2 years old. My grandmother was poor and couldn't make it by caring for an infant and herself with the low paying job she had. When I turned four, I had already had a job. We even had to steal food just to survive, but when we got paid we secretly gave the money to the place where we stole from. So don't you dare tell me that my life has been easy! Yeah, maybe that is easy for a demon, but for us humans, it's a struggle for everyday life!" Kaiya was ready to go on but decided that was enough for him to know.
"Well I... I mean... Oh nevermind." Jaken couldn't even think of words to even come back at her comment.
"Lets go." Sesshomaru got up from where he was sitting and began to walk. Jaken followed behind him while Kaiya climbed on top of Ah-Un. 'I will find out who Rin is and i'll do it without Jaken changing the subjects.'
~*~
Kaiya began to fall asleep on Ah-Un's back. This had been a really long day for her. She listened to the snow fall off of the trees as the wind brushed against them. Little by little, Kaiya began to fall deeper and deeper into sleep. Only a mere few minutes went by until Kaiya was in complete rest.
~Dream beggins~
Kaiya woke up in a small meadow with waterfalls surrounding the area. It was like she was on her own little private Island. Getting up slowly, Kaiya held her head because it had felt like she had hit it up against something. As her eyes began to clear up she looked ahead. 'No, it cant be. Is that...Is that my mom?' Kaiya walked up to look closer until she saw Leiko come into the picture. Kaiya stepped back getting scared of what would happen. She noticed the backround of where they were didn't match the waterfalls surrounding her. Stepping closer with caution, Kaiya noticed that Leiko didn't even see her. 'Who is that in my mothers hands? Is...that...me? Is that me from when I was just an infant?' Kaiya didn't know what was happening until she saw Leiko pull out a knife from her pocket. She began to stab her rappidly. On her knees, Kaiya's mother protected her baby from the knife. Slowly, Kaiya began to let out a few tears as she watched the horrible scene. "Stop! Stop It Now!" Kaiya yelled out. It's all that she could do. All-Of-A-Sudden a man appeared in the picture. He looked at Leiko with wide eyes as he saw her stab his wife. He grabbed Leiko from the back of her Kimono and threw her against the wall. He held his dying wife in his arms with the baby tucked into hers. "Ta...Take her." Her mother slowly handed the baby to him. Once the baby dropped into his arms, Kaiya's mother had died. Leiko woke up from unconsciousness with the knife still in her hand. She snuck up behind Kaiya's father and stabbed him 3 times where his heart was. Still on his knees, blood began to force its way out from his mouth, and soon after that he fell over dead right on top of his wife's body. "Now you can all see each other in hell." Leiko left the small shack unaware that the little baby Kaiya was still alive.
Kaiya sunk down deeper into the flowers of the meadow. "Leiko. Leiko killed my parents. Damn Her!!!!!" Kaiya yelled at the top of her lungs until she couldn't yell anymore. After what seemed to be forever Kaiya lifter her head and saw a woman in a village. She watched her every move until she had reached the shack that both of her parents had been killed in.
"Help! Help!" The woman cried as she ran into a near by house. She repeated 'help' until the villagers came to see what she had been so upset about. All of there faces dropped at the sight of blood everywhere. The men ran to the bodies to see if any of them had made it. Unaware that there was a baby, they roughly lunged the bodies over to see who they were. Baby Kaiya fell out of her dads bloody arms and hit the hard floor. She began to cry nonstop until one of the women surrounding the room picked her up to shoosh her.
After finding out who they were, Kaiya saw them get her grandmother from the feilds. When they greeted her, She had a warm smile on her face as always. Kaiya watched as her grandmothers once warm and happy face turned into a crying disaster. Her grandmother ran to her sons shack only to find that what the villagers had said was true. The woman who was holding baby Kaiya handed her to her grandmother. "My dear little Kaiya..." her grandmother said with tears filling up her eyes. "You're the only left in my life. I promise to take care of you, no matter what happends."
Kaiya watched as she saw herself growing up and who she use to be before her grandmother had died. As she watched, she started to remember the good times that she had experienced. It skipped through all of her life except when her grandmother helped her and all of the fun times that they had had together. The last scene that played was the snowball fight they had before her grandmother was murdered. 'I must go on.'
~Dream ends~
Kaiya lifted her arms in the air and began to stretch. Rubbing her eyes she noticed that they were wet. She thought for a few seconds then remembered her dream. The cool wind blew her blonde hair and wiped off the remaning tears from her white skin.
"She has kept her promise. For all of these years, and even now she has kept it." Kaiya spoke to herself without any knowledge that Sesshomaru and Jaken were only a few feet from her.
"Who has kept what promise?" asked Jaken.
Kaiya jumped a little bit being surprised that they were still with her and that she had said that out loud. "Oh it's nothing. I was just remembering something which as you like to put it 'it was in the past don't worry about it'."
"Oh just tell me girl!"
"How many times do I have to tell you? My name isn't girl it's Kaiya." Kaiya laughed a little bit just to show Jaken that she wasn't mad or anything. "And i'll only tell you if you tell me who Rin is. Which I know you won't so in that case don't worry about it."
Sesshomaru got up and walked away. He was tired of hearing Kaiya speak of Rin. Sesshomaru started to think about. Did he actually care for Rin that much? That couldn't be for that he, Sesshomaru, cared for no one but himself.
"My Lord, where are you going?" Jaken looked at Sesshomaru walking away getting deeper and deeper into the woods.
"None of your business." he answered.
Jaken fell onto his butt and just sighed. "Why wont he never tell me anything?" Jaken laid down the Staff of Two Heads and held his head up with his hands; sighing once again.
Sesshomaru was now completely out of sight. Jaken and Kaiya were both silent. They had nothing that they wanted to say to each other and even if they did they wouldn't say anything because they either thought it was a stupid question or they just didn't want to talk. Jaken, being the unpatient little imp he was, couldn't take the silence for much long.
"So uhh, what was the promise thing you were talking about earlier?" Jaken broke the silence between the two.
"Nothing. I just had a dream thats all." replied Kaiya.
"Oh yes about that. Did you have a bad dream because you were tossing and turning yelling out 'no' non-stop." remarked Jaken. 'what was she dreaming about? She acted so weird last night.'
"Oh uhhhmmm not at all. I didn't have a bad dream I, uhmmm just didn't want, uhhhmmm a demon to take my..." Kaiya was bad at lying just like her grandmother was.
"Yes your...." continued Jaken
"My......food." Kaiya looked blankly in the air with her eyes wide from thinking. Her voice was so plain when she had commented back to Jaken that a demon had been trying to take her food.
"Oh yes right then." Jaken looked at Kaiya in confusion. 'She won't tell me will she.' he sighed 'Well I don't think i'll get anymore out of her.'
"I'll be right back." Kaiya got up and walked towards the woods.
"Where are you going?"
"Just around. I need to stretch my legs but don't worry i'll be in the area." Kaiya continued her walk not caring that Jaken was telling her not to go any further. Jaken finally gave up once Kaiya disappeared behind a tree.
'This place is so beautiful in the winter time. I don't think that I have even been to a place like this, but that's probably just because my grandmother protected me from almost everything. In fact, she never let me go anywhere by myself except to my jobs.' Kaiya stopped at a dead tree and just sat down and started to think about her dream that she had previously had. To what had seemed to be a full years worth of a dream all bunched up into one, Kaiya thought about for at least two hours. She didn't even keep track of the time. To her it seemed to go by fast.
"Shit I forgot about Jaken!" Kaiya jumped up from the tree and started to run to where Jaken was waiting, but to her surprise something jumped down from the tree that she had one been sitting on.
"What is a young woman like you doing out of a village?" He asked.
Kaiya couldn't see who he was or what he looked like because the tree's shadow was infront of him.
"None of your damn business." replied Kaiya. " I...I can't go back to any villages!"
The demon walked out from the tree's shadow. He had black hair pulled back into a ponytail and his clothes were made of brown fur and armor. He had Fangs but they weren't big and his ears were pointed.
"Who are you?" Kaiya asked while trying to use Sesshomaru's glare to scare him off; it wasn't working.
"I'm Kouga of the wolf demon tribe and I see you're here alone. Why is that?" Kouga asked crossing his arms infront of him.
"Like I said none of your damn business and i'm not alone. Well I am but i'm going back to the ones i'm with. Now move out of my way." demanded Kaiya trying to push him out of the way.
Kouga picked her up and and shoved her back away from him.
"What do you want!" Kaiya stepped back a few steps but didn't lose eye contact with him just incase he wanted to move somewhere when she wasn't looking.
"Well in the winter there's barely any food, and I have a whole pack of wolf demons to feed. So to sum it all up, i'm planning on taking you and bringing you to my pack."
"Holy Shit your gonna eat me!!!!!" Yelled Kaiya. Her jaw dropped and her muscles were loosening. Instead of the straight stance she once had, her body came completely loose and elegable to get.
Kouga saw the change in her body posture and so he ran to grab her; not like she would have been a struggle in the first place, but this made things just a tad easier. Once he got a hold of her, he ran back to his pack to where Kaiya would soon attend dinner.
~*~
"No you don't want to eat me! I'm to skinny you wouldn't like to eat just skin and bones! I am like the appatizer instead of the full course meal that you want! I wont even feed a small fraction of your pack. I don't even think I would fill up one member of your pack! Let me down you basterd!" Kaiya began to beg in a yelling matter. She started to kick, hit, and even bite Kouga. She was going to try everything to get out of his grasp.
"Wont you just shut up already?" yelled Kouga back at her.
"No, not until you put me down!" Kaiya replied screaming her lungs out.
Kouga slowed down until he came to a stop. He looked at her and she looked at him back. He set her down but still had his arm around her waist. For a second Kaiya thought that she had actually done it! That throwing a tantrum actually worked, but instead Kouga picked her back up and headed off again.
"You told me to set you down. You never said how long and you never said that I couldn't pick you up again. Since you got what you wanted, stop whining!" Kouga said ever so smoothly.
Kaiya just gave up from kicking, hitting, biting and screaming. She just slammed her head againts Kouga's shoulder. She kept hitting her head until her head hurt to much to continue though it wouldn't matter because she was just going to be eaten by a bunch of starving wolf demons anyways.
Kouga arrived to his pack and handed Kaiya off to one of his comrads. His comrad licked his lips and nodded his head. It had been about four days since they had eaten. Kaiya was of corse scared. This time she didn't know what she was going to do. For all that she knew, she was fucked. Kaiya did the only thing she knew that she could do at that moment. She started to pray in her head. 'Grandmother, please be here for me another time. I know that your dead but that doesn't mean that your spirit can't come down and save me. If you don't help me that proves theres no after life and...you will be breaking your promise to me. The one you made to me on the day of my parents death. I don't mean to sound needy and disrespectful, but I just want to avange your death before I myself pass on'
The wolf demon threw Kaiya in the cave where she would soon dine with them. Kaiya sat up from being thrown on the ground.
"Hey Kouga, When do we get to eat?" asked one of the demons while saliva escaped from his opening mouth.
"When I get done looking for more food. Do you honestly think that with all that scrawny stuff over there she could feed us?"
He looked over and saw not that much meat. "Fine Kouga, but hurry up and get more food before we all starve!"
Kaiya started to feel a stange presence pass by her. The hair infront of her face began to move, but the wind wasn't blowing. Kaiya was in a cave there was no way the wind could come through. 'Man I better make it through here alive. I have to keep my promise to you grandmother just like you kept yours with me.' Kaiya would have thought more but she saw the sight of Kouga comming through the enterence of the cave. He had two warthogs in his hand and threw them to where the fire was.
"Kouga is it now time?"
"Yes lets get her prepared." Answered Kouga with a smirk on his face.
They picked up Kaiya and brought her over to the fire. Kaiya tried her best to escape but it was useless, the demons were to strong for her.
"Hurry up and get this over with." implied Kaiya
"What do you mean hurry up? It takes a while to to cook food." remarked Kouga.
"Wait, what?" Kaiya looked behind her and saw the 'scrawny meat' Kouga was talking about earlier. "Aren't you going to uhhmm eat me?"
"No, ever since Kouga met a girl named Kagome we don't eat humans anymore. Even though it is quite tempting." answered one of the hungry wolf demons.
"Then why am I here?" she raised an eyebrow.
"Well we know how to cook but we are just to lazy and weak to even make any food. We havn't eaten for days." one of the demons started the fire so that they could make Kaiya cook.
"Oh so im here to cook.....For all of you? How do you know I am even good at cooking?" Kaiya remarked.
"Yeah you are here for that. Well, we assume that since you are a young human girl you would know how to cook since you will have to cook for your man one day." answered Kouga.
"Oh, well that makes sence." She stared at him for a while. 'Thank you Kagome whoever you are!' Kaiya sighed in relief. 'Yes I get to live longer!' Kaiya began to prepare the food for all of them. It took quite some time but Kaiya loved to cook so it didn't matter to her.
~*~
When Kaiya was done cooking she went over to Kouga who was still eating. She sat next to him and looked at his food. Like all the other times Kaiya had cooked, she never had any left overs for herself
"What are you looking at?" Kouga looked down at the girl who was sitting next to him. It took him a good long while until he finally looked to where her eyes were pointing at. He looked over to where she had once been cooking and saw that there was no food left.
"Do you want some?" asked Kouga.
"Uh, no thanks, i'm good." Kaiya licked her lips and stared at the food a little longer until she was about to drool.
"Why didn't you save any for yourself?"
"Because I personally don't like my cooking." Kaiya shook her head to get out of her food fantasy. "It may look good but I hate it."
Kouga shrugged his shoulder then started again at his meat. He glanced back over to Kaiya and saw her staring at his food still.
"If you don't want any then why do you keep looking at my food?"
"Im sorry i'm just so hungry!" Kaiya put her hands together and looked up as if she were praying for some food.
Kouga got up and went outside for a second. Kaiya thought she had scared him away until he came back in with a bright red apple. He sat back down next to Kaiya and handed her the apple.
"I thought apples didn't grow this time of year." Kaiya looked at the apple but soon sank her teeth in it taking a big chunk out of the apple.
"Yeah I know, but I found this on my way back from taking you."
"About that... Can you bring me back? I mean I like it here and all but I just seem more at home with who I was previously with." Kaiya was almost done with her apple. She had scarfed that thing down faster than she had any other food; even devouring the core. Only the stem of the apple remained.
"I was planning on keeping you the whole winter to make all this food for us..." Kouga said with a straight face on him.
Kaiya looked at him and her face slowly turned into something evil. Her eyes were squinted and her mouth was frowned. Her eyebrows went over her eyes implying that she was getting quite mad.
"Im just kidding, but don't be surprised if I steal you again." Kouga started to laugh at Kaiya for the face she was making.
Kaiya's face went back to being happy. She laughed a little bit until she jumped on Kouga and gave him a hug. "Thanks so much for everything."
Kouga looked at her until she let go. "Come on I better get you back before your friends get mad." Kouga picked Kaiya up and went on his way.
For the first time in her life, Kaiya felt as safe as she could possibly be. She knew Kouga wouldn't hurt her, but she wasn't to sure about Sesshomaru. He was unpredictable.
~*~
Kouga dropped Kaiya off right by the spot where Jaken was panicing at. Kaiya waved good-bye to Kouga as he jumped from tree to tree going back to his wolf tribe. She walked out of the woods and surprised Jaken.
"KAIYA WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!?!?!" Jaken demanded to know.
"I was out for a while. I told you I was comming back." Kaiya crossed her arms and bent one leg leaning to the side.
"You're lucky Lord Sesshomaru haden't come before you got back!" yelled Jaken right in Kaiya's face which he had to jump up to reach.
"You mean you're lucky Sesshomaru hasn't come back before I got here. Ha, you would have been in deep shit wouldn't you?" Kaiya began to smirk a little bit letting out a small laugh. She tried to hold it in but that wasn't helping her. She walked back over to Ah-Un and greeted her with a pat on the back. She climbed on top of her because she knew Jaken couldn't jump that high.
"Well... actually yes I would be. I mean after I didn't watch Rin and she got kidnapped by demons, I would be in as you say 'deep shit'. If that would have happend to you and..." Jaken slapped the staff right into his face.
"Oh now you have to tell me what happend! What happend to Rin?" Kaiya became curious and was urging to know what happend to her. It was now like a story. She had to piece everything together.
"I will not speak of Rin." declared Jaken
"Well you have said enough by accident so that must mean that... Oh Sesshomaru is pissed at you because... You lost Rin didn't you? Is that how she died? You weren't watching her and she was captured by demons and they killed her?" Kaiya would have continued but she went out of breath.
"Stop asking so many questions, Rin your giving me a headache!" Jaken held his hands against his head covering where his ears would be.
"I'm not Rin im Kaiya remember!" yelled Kaiya hating him calling her that.
Jaken was still shaking his head back and forth until he saw Sesshomaru on the other side of Ah-Un.
"My Lord, you're back!" Jaken ran over next to Ah-Un.
Sesshomaru just looked at him knowing that he blurted out what happend to Rin.
Kaiya looked over to see what Jaken was talking about. She looked over and then fell off Ah-Un's back onto the green imp.
"Holy Shit I didn't even hear you! When did you get here?" Kaiya stood back up and rubbed her aching head from the fall.
Sesshomaru didn't answer Kaiya's question. Instead he did as he normally did and took the lead to go someplace else. Kaiya got back on top of Ah-Un's back and followed Sesshomaru.
"Jaken aren't you comming?" Kaiya asked as she looked back to still see Jaken smooshed to the ground where she had fell on him.
Jaken lifted his head and saw that everyone else was ahead.
"Lord Sesshomaru wait for me!" Jaken ran after Sesshomaru to hopfully catch up to him.
~*~
Catching up to Sesshomaru, Jaken began to breathe heavily as he slowed down. 'Why dont they ever tell me about these things? I'm tired of having to run to catch up to everyone.' Jaken, still breathing heavily, tried to climb on Ah-Un's back with Kaiya; just to rest for a moment. Ah-Un stated to kick him off again, but instead of kicking off Jaken, Kaiya flew off her back. Being a demon, Jaken could take a hit like that, but Kaiya was just human. As she flew through the air, she started to scream. Sesshomaru, hearing everything, heard her cry for help. Turning his head around his shoulder, he saw Kaiya flying through the air. Even though Kaiya was very annoying, Sesshomaru caught her before she hit the hard cold ground. He set Kaiya down, not even asking if she was ok, and continued his walk.
'How does he always manage to save me? What this is the third- fourth time now that he has done so? He seems like he would be a careless basterd, but deep, deep down...is he actually nice? Ha, no that can't be it.' Kaiya watched him walk until they were a good distance apart from eachother, then Kaiya followed.
Kaiya hadn't wanted to go back on top of Ah-Un since the previous insident so she walked behind Sesshomaru. As Sesshomaru passed Jaken he gave him a dirty look as if to say 'Next time you'll die.' Sesshomaru had a very deadly stare that not even the best demons could outstand it. If someone ever looked Sesshomaru in the eye, they would immediatly become scared. Some say his stare causes hearts to stop for a moment. Most humans who look into his evil eyes would freeze making them an easy target to kill. Sesshomaru would never waste his time killing pathetic humans. Being the son of a mighty demon, Sesshomaru wasnt scared of anything.
As the Day moved on into the late afternoon, Kaiya decided to take a walk. It wouldn't hurt anyone if she stayed some what close to where they had stopped. Meeting Jaken by a tree she told him of what she was doing. As the tipical Jaken, he panic and screamed begging her not to go.
"If you're so worried about me getting hurt, then why dont you just come with me. It's not like Sesshomaru would miss you." Remarked Kaiya as she walked past him not caring if he came or not. Jaken then had a flash-back of Rin. He wasn't there to try and protect her. If he were to screw this up with Kaiya, well then he would surely die or worse, live. Living with Sesshomaru and having him be pissed at you forever would just suck! Dying would be so much better then to live. Jaken, deciding that he would go, called out to Kaiya and ran towards her. He looked back to Sesshomaru, who wasn't trying to stop him. If anything bad happend, hopfully Sesshomaru would be there to save her.
"Wait for me!" called out Jaken funning as fast as his little legs could carry him. Kaiya looked back at him but didn't stop. When he finally caught up to her, they were at a very beautiful sight.
"Where are we?" Asked Jaken as he looked at his surroundings.
"I use to come here when me and my grandmother traveled. We would always stop here because it's so beautiful." Kaiya tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear. The wind blew the air, making Kaiya's hair flow a little bit off of he body. The sun had started to set setting a redish orange glow in the sky. Kaiya watched as the sun set behind the Mountains.
"We better go, it's getting late." Jaken started to walk away until he noticed Kaiya not following. "Come on girl it's time to go."
"You can go, i'll stay. I know how to find my way back to where Sesshomaru is." Kaiya laid on the grass and looked up at the stars. Jaken couldn't stop her so he went. Once he was back to where Sesshomaru was, he told him of her wereabouts. Sesshomaru would now have to keep an eye out for anything and keep his ears on Kaiya's direction.
'Grandmother, I miss you so much. I know your here with me right now...I..I can just feel it. I know you led me here on purpose.' Kaiya said while imagining her grandmother there right beside her. The wind started to blow even harder but Kaiya didnt mind. She learned to toughen up a little bit in the past few days. Though she still had her moments. As Kaiya lay on the ground, she looked at the stars; making shapes out of them in her mind. Kind of like connect the dots but with stars. She managed to piece together her grandmother in the stars. At that slight moment, Kaiya closed her eyes and fell asleep.
*Dream*
Kaiya awoke in the same place as her previous dream. A little island surrounded by beautiful waterfalls. But instead of seeing a re-play of what happend in the past, she saw her Grandmother. Walking towards her grandchild, Naomi held Kaiya in her arms; not wanting to let go.
"Kaiya, you have to wake up right now! Something is comming!" She whispered in her ear.
"What's comming?" Her eyes widened as Naomi let her go.
"Leiko."
Kaiya jumped back. Shaking her head in every which way.
"How does she know where I am?" Asked Kaiya as she drifted in and out of her sleep.
Naomi spoke quickly before she awoke, and she had more than a little to say.
"She found the sack that she put you in in the tree you slept in. The problem was there was no Kaiya! She has been searching for you since she found that empty tree, and you know her, she can track down pretty good. She is aware of the demons you travel with and she is even aware of..."
*end*
Kaiya shot up from her spot. Hearing sounds come from the bushes scared Kaiya deeply. Getting up, she ran. Slipping every which way because she had just woken up but other than that she was fine. It was hard to track down where Sesshomaru was because it was night fall. 'Even more aware of what?' She thought as she ran as fast as she could to get to where they were. She was getting scared and was losing stamina. Hearing foot prints following behind her, she couldn't stop. She was now almost in a panic until, *SLLLLIPPPP* *CRASH* *BOOM*...Kaiya had tripped over Ah-Un's back. Everyone stared at her wondering what was going on. Sesshomaru's eyes left Kaiya to a shadow standing right behind Ah-Un. The Shadow finally left after a few seconds. Sesshomaru didn't leave his guard down until the foot-prints were gone. Not even then did he fully leave guard.
"Kaiya what are you doing crashing in here this late!' Yelled a tired Jaken swinging his staff at her.
"I was being followed, well more like chased by something. Never mind that. Lets just go back to sleep or whatever you guys were doing." Kaiya said while laying right next to Ah-Un. She knew that Ah-Un would protect her, and now that Sesshomaru was aware of what happend, she knew that he would to...Hopfully. Kaiya was almost asleep until she hear Leiko's laugh running through her head over and over again. She tried to hum a tune to get rid of the horrible laugh, but no use. It was stuck in her mind. Kaiya somehow managed to fall asleep as the laugh went in her head. Kaiya was trying to fall asleep faster so that she could continue her dream and find out what else Leiko had known.
*dream*
It was hot, real hot when Kaiya rose from her sleep. Fire burned everywhere. Wiping sweat off of her forhead, she looked around. It was way to hot to think. Getting up slowly, she tried to find away out of the flames; but nothing, There was no opening to get out of. She paniced. She was surrounded in a firey island that she thought was soon her grave. Taking off her kimono to try to cool down, she started to stomp out the flames, using her kimono so her feet wouldn't burn. She still had her regualar clothes on that were once under her kimono. She stomped out a section of the flames and ran out only to be pushed back into the flaming circle. Coughing from the smoke, she looked up. Leiko! Kaiya backed up until she reached the flames. Not to close to burn but it was still really hot. Leiko walked forward while laughing. The horrible laugh caused Kaiya to cover her ears. Leiko picked Kaiya up by her neck and started to squeeze. Kaiya brought her arms up and held Leiko's wrist, trying to break free. Her legs kicked but not for long. She couldn't breath anymore. Leiko's grasp and the fire's smoke made it hard to breath! Her eyes started to roll into the back of her head. Leiko was very amused at this sight. Since Kaiya was fading in and out of conciousness, Leiko threw her in the flames. Watching as she burnt.
*End*
Sesshomau looked as Kaiya struggled in her sleep. He noticed her neck quenching tightly as if she were being strangled. He also noticed her sweating as her face turned red. He did nothing until he saw her whole body burning. He had never seen anything like this before. Kaiya stopped breathing. Sesshomaru did the only thing he could do. He picked her up and put her in water. Steam came up from the water as if putting out a fire. Still, Kaiya wasn't breathing. He then did his last option and struck her with the Tensaiga. Slowly opening her eyes she began to sit upright. Looking at her surroundings, she noticed that she was fine. She felt her neck and her skin which seemed to also be normal. Seeing Sesshomaru with a sword in his hands, Kaiya stepped back and looked at him. He put the sword back into its sheath. Jaken came running into the scene.
"Where did you guys go?" he asked taking a breathe.
"Can you not see where we went?" Commented Sesshomaru as he took a final look at Kaiya before doing the usual and walking off.
Jaken had seen Sesshomaru put the sword back in its sheath, he knew he used it on Kaiya.
"Are you alright?" He asked
"Yeah besides Sesshomaru trying to kill me im fine."
"He wasnt trying to kill you for you were already dead. He revived you with his sword the Tensaiga. It can bring back 100 souls." Bragged Jaken about Sesshomaru.
Kaiya thought. If that sword could bring back her, then it could bring back her grandmother. How would she get it though? Would she have to steal it? No, she couldn't do that after all that he has done for her. Somehow she would have to get the sword. She was desperate to bring her grandmother back.
A/N:------- Well that is my story so far, thank you for reading it. I really don't know if I should continue. I have some pretty nifty ideas for it but like I said previsously, I don't know if I should continue. Please comment and let me know what you all think. Sorry for spelling mistakes or grammer errors. I just read through the whole story and fixed up A LOT of mistakes that I had made last year when I wrote the stort....Or was it two years ago... Anyways please review and let me know if I should continue or if I should give it up. Critisism is appreciated. Don't be too hard =/ haha =] Thanks for reading!
