Summary: Miroku's feeling the aftereffects of a long day of demon slaying. Seeking out some solitude, he's not fortunate enough to have everyone leave him alone…[seshXmiro]

Merry Xmas 2007!
A special Xmas gift for my friend, angelicyokai - this story is a Miroku x Sesshomaru lemon. It was a challenge to write, since I pride myself on my plausible circumstances and in-character writing… and these are about the last pair of people I would normally see getting together. I'm a SangoxMiroku shipper myself… but writing is about expanding your horizons!
Once again - I don't read yaoi. I write it for requests. That is all.
Without further ado…

InuYasha - Set Me Free (Empty Rooms)

The lunar disc had risen fully over the past few minutes. Luckily it wasn't anywhere near a new moon, or else he'd have never managed to slip away from the campsite with so little trouble. As it was, the waning crescent cast its light over the forest surrounding him peacefully and without interruption.

The small, fast moving stream at his feet had gathered into a small pool of relative calm in which a few tiny fish darted among the moonbeams. Where they had come from was a mystery, being in the only deeper and slower moving waters of this creek for miles. He contemplated their existence for a few minutes, since it was a convenient distraction that still didn't require much deep contemplation.

When the last tiny minnow flickered out of sight among the fallen leaves at the bottom of the pool, he sighed and shifted, in tending to turn his gaze up to the stars for a new subject of reflection. On their path upwards, his eyes inadvertently fell upon his own gloved and beaded hand, causing him a moment of pause followed by a small sigh.

It might have been expected that this sigh was due to the unhappy reminder of his own mortality, or perhaps the kinds of dangers and pain that he faced on a daily basis. Though anticipated, this was not actually the case on this particular night. No, this time he had a slightly more pressing concern that needed to be dealt with, all his distractions and mental wanderings aside.

Many people, for better or worse, were well aware of the fact that absorbing certain things into his Wind Tunnel caused some unfortunate side effects on his person. Demonic poisons, for instance, still affected him even if sucked into the supposedly endless void in his right hand. Though they rarely thought about it now, back when he had first begun wandering with InuYasha and Kagome there had been a limit to the amount of demonic aura he could take in at one time as well. This was, in fact, still the case, but he had developed something of a greater tolerance for it in the ensuing time.

Tolerance is not equal to a complete immunity, however. Therefore, there were nights just like this one that found him out in some quiet, secluded spot as he sorted through the massive amounts of demonic energy his body had been forced to absorb in the day. This time it had been a horde of mountain demons, rustled up by some evil power or another that was no doubt connected to Naraku in some way. They were working their way back to the source at the current moment, but nightfall had forced them to camp on the mountainside. This was hardly a rush case anyway, since there was no point in burning themselves out chasing after tiny clues that might lead to random underlings of the great demon.

He hated the feeling of the aura pervading his body. It made him tense, jumpy, and generally unsettled. It also made him somewhat queasy and bad tempered, not that his group noticed overmuch. There was always enough action around the campfire at night that small personality quirks were lost in the hustle, or could easily be explained away by tiredness, stress or frustration. And the fact that he wasn't interested in dinner just meant more for InuYasha and Shippo, after all.

He had been staring blankly at his hand for the last few minutes, he realized. Sighing and shaking himself slightly, he finally lifted his gaze up to the night sky, determined to simply wait out the absorption of the demonic energy in quiet meditation. A slight wind rustled the leaves overhead, causing the stars to flicker around the edges of the canopy gap created by the little fishpond.

Breathe in. The cool, fresh air of late spring was clear, comforting, faintly flavored like the fresh leaves on the trees around him.

Breathe out. A little more of the demonic aura left with each exhalation. Slowly, the sensation was getting lighter.

A simple, repetitive cure for his condition. Certainly it was an easy enough solution in all those times past… but tonight he had the impression that his routine was going to be interrupted. This was due specifically to the fact that the sound of the crickets and other nocturnal wildlife that had been surrounding him was dying off, forming a path of silence as something, or perhaps someone, approached his location.

He remained still, hoping that his dark colors and immobility would hide him in the shadows. Probably a vain expectation since he was sitting mostly out in the open, but he could hope anyway.

It wasn't any of this normal companions, of that he was sure. None of them would bother trying to sneak up on him in any way, and the aura he was detecting wasn't one of theirs. It wasn't completely unfamiliar, however. The hair on the back of his neck began to rise as the other approached. Yes, this feeling wasn't foreign at all. He'd been exposed to it on quite a few occasions by now.

He turned in order to fully face the direction his visitor was approaching from. The night wouldn't hide his presence from this person, so there was no point in really remaining still any longer.

Sesshomaru stepped out onto the bank of the stream, making eerily little noise as he did so. It seemed that only the heightened senses of the animals out in the night was enough to betray his presence. Upon spotting Miroku, he stopped and appeared to think for a moment.

“Hmmm. How strange.”

Miroku blinked. Act casual. And polite. “Excuse me?”

The dog demon paused, most likely deciding whether to actually bother responding to the human's confusion or to just leave and find something more interesting to talk to. “I detected quite a bit of demonic energy in this area, but with no real source or concentration. It was quite a strange circumstance, so I chose to investigate.”

“And it led you to me?” That was an unfortunate revelation. If InuYasha's brother was curious enough to investigate whatever aura Miroku was giving off, it was entirely likely that other demons would be as well. As immersed in it as he was, the monk couldn't really tell the level of effect the energy had on his surroundings, much less how noticeable it was. He hadn't thought much about it since InuYasha hadn't reacted, but his friend wasn't known as the most observant half-demon in the world either.

Sesshomaru was thinking again. It was actually rather nerve-wracking that the greater demon hadn't left yet, since he was apparently still interested in Miroku's current state. The young monk felt himself tensing under the golden-eyed gaze, an irrational desire to growl at the other demon growing behind his clenched teeth.

Wait.

Other demon? He wasn't a demon. He was a human! And humans don't growl at people to express their displeasure, not normally at least. He mentally damned the evil aura, it was even messing with his mind now!

Closing his eyes, he shook himself in a move reminiscent of what InuYasha did every time Kagome chose to `Sit' him into a body of water. Miroku wasn't wet, however, and the full body shake didn't throw off the really annoying stare that he was still getting.
He finally snapped, opening his eyes to glower back at the other. “What? What do you want? You found me, alright? Just a human, nothing interesting here!”

“On the contrary. This sensation that you are giving off - “ The dog demon took a moment to sniff the air speculatively, “Is very unique. Definitely a mix of many demons, but with your own human scent in it as well. Rather like that other wretched half-demon.”

Miroku was not a demon in any way, shape or form. One curse upon his person, powerful as it was, was not anywhere near enough to classify him as such. And to be compared to Naraku was beyond an insult, it was simply indescribable.

His eyes narrowed as his glare became more pointed, Miroku felt his throat vibrate with that same growl he'd been repressing a few moments before. Moving quickly, he shifted from his seated position to a tense crouch, one hand on his staff which had been lying on the ground at his side. Sesshomaru didn't move, his only reaction being to blink rather slowly.

The stand off remained for a few long minutes, Miroku glaring and Sesshomaru utterly nonplussed. It was the demon that broke it though, surprisingly enough. Miroku tensed and jerked backwards as the silver haired man darted forwards, moving effortlessly with the inhuman speed that was one of his trademarks. The monk nearly made it to his feet before the other crossed the distance, but was frozen in place by the powerful grip that attached itself to his shoulders.

He was abruptly face to face with the dog demon, who didn't seem interested in meeting his eyes. Instead, his nose was still working as he apparently more thoroughly investigated a particular scent on Miroku's clothing.

Reacting instinctively, Miroku snarled at the invasion of his personal space. Normally, he wasn't one to object to unexpected close personal contact, but he wasn't feeling very friendly that night and furthermore this was a male and a demon on top of that.

At the enraged sound, one slitted, golden eye flickered up to check his expression. Then, apparently satisfied, Sesshomaru released him and took a step backwards. “As I thought.”

“What?” The word wasn't much more than a growl itself, but Miroku honestly wanted to know what it was that he was marked with that was so attractive to demons. Just for his own personal information and so that he could absolutely avoid it in the future.

“Mountain dog.”

“Eh?” Miroku took a few steps backward himself, straightening his robes as he did. Then his mind gave up one very important piece of information that had been buried under how miserable he felt previously. Among the demon's he'd sucked into his Wind Tunnel earlier, hadn't there been a dog… or two or three? Mountain dogs were usually solitary, but there had been quite a few among the crew he had so mercilessly wiped out.

Ah. Lovely. So a good bit of the demonic aura he was dealing with tonight was canine in origin. No wonder InuYasha had been looking pretty glad to see him go as he slipped off earlier. Even if he wasn't perceptive enough to really figure out what was going on, he most likely had sensed the whatever-it-was that was interesting his brother so.

He stood back, taking a moment to get his breathing under control. One hand rose shakily up to his temple, wiping away a small drop of sweat beginning to form there. The night had been comfortably cool a moment ago, but now that the only breeze had died away the first humid heat of summer was starting to creep its way in. Or perhaps it was just Miroku who was feeling that way, but Sesshomaru didn't look to comfortable either…

As a matter of fact, his expression wasn't one Miroku had ever seen before. There was some sort of actual emotion there, but he wasn't quite sure what kind. He seemed tense… and Miroku realized he had been staring for the last few minutes.

Sesshomaru didn't appear to mind overmuch, since if he had he probably would have flattened Miroku already. He might mind, however, if Miroku started moving forward… like he was right then.

The young monk stepped up to the other present and, in a sort of caricature of the previous scene, gripped the front of the dog demon's shirt and leaned in for a sniff of his scent. Miroku had no idea why he was doing this, but it really seemed like a good idea at the time. And following the script of the earlier encounter, it was Sesshomaru's turn to growl at the contact, though he didn't actually pull away.

I…I think I'm starting to figure out the problem here. Miroku's mind managed some coherency for a moment before the aura of the demons he'd absorbed earlier rose up an enveloped him in a tingly warmth.

Sesshomaru's neck was conveniently close by at this point, and suddenly there was another image of what exactly the best thing to do at the moment would be. And not being one to restrain his impulses very readily, Miroku naturally gave in to this one.

His tongue darted out between his lips and tasted the flesh. Sesshomaru's growl deepened, but he didn't jump, act startled in any other way, or simply kill Miroku outright. Perhaps he had been expecting that reaction as well? Well, if he had anticipated that, then he probably foresaw Miroku's next actions as well…

The young human pulled the dog demon closer, pressing their chests tightly together, while his lips followed his tongue onto the flesh of Sesshomaru's throat. His eyes half closed, focusing on the sensation of the skin under his touch, nearly oblivious when Sesshomaru's hand darted up to grip one of his upper arms in an almost painful hold. This momentarily kept Miroku from moving any closer, or making any significant progress in his attack on Sesshomaru's neck, but the grip was quickly relaxed and shifted. Sesshomaru moved speedily to pull Miroku slightly to one side, exposing his own neck to a solid bite. Miroku yelped at the abrupt addition of pain to the encounter, but for some reason the sensation was quickly overrun with another wave of tingling pleasure. His hands griped Sesshomaru's shirt firmly, pulling outwards and downwards with a particular purpose in mind.

The dog demon growled again as his shoulders, chest and eventually entire upper body were bared by the rearrangement of the fabric, but his mouth remained attached to Miroku's neck in a light embrace. The monk's hands abandoned the cloth in order to move up to caress the smooth muscles of Sesshomaru's back and shoulders, rapidly exploring the flesh that was now exposed to him. Once the upper portions of Sesshomaru's anatomy had been explored, he began moving father south, along his back and sides until he reached his waistline, where clothing still impeded his progress.

The interruption was met with a small, frustrated whine from Miroku's throat, answered by a sound almost like a purr from Sesshomaru. The other finally released the human's neck from his teeth and pulled back slightly. His hand left Miroku's arm in order to return the favor the monk had paid him, roughly pulling away at the neck of Miroku's robes and forcing them to fall away. Here he wasn't faced with the same problem that Miroku had, since the loosening of the robes allowed them to simply slide downwards to the ground, leaving the monk essentially naked in the cool night air.

He shivered momentarily as his heated skin was exposed to the tiny breeze that had finally returned to the stream banks, but was distracted from the discomfort by Sesshomaru taking actions to further things along. The dog demon quickly stripped himself of the remainder of his own clothing and did away with Miroku's remaining undergarments in an expeditious manner. Both males were then still and naked in the darkness, but the moment didn't last. Miroku took the initiate to move in closer once again, wrapping his arms around Sesshomaru's shoulders and pressing their bodies together in a seamless embrace.

He pressed his face against Sesshomaru's check, and then slid a little farther down to nuzzle the demon just underneath his jaw. Sesshomaru's hand moved to wrap around the young monk, gripping him in such a way that he could quickly twist the other around so that his chest was then in contact with Miroku's back. He also took the opportuinity to lower the pair to the ground, his demonic strength making this an effortless transition. His arm then was used to wrap around the young man's chest and hold him in place. Miroku jerked and gasped as he felt Sesshomaru's tongue contact his neck once again, gently licking the same spot where he had bitten him earlier. The gasp turned into a moan as Sesshomaru's hand moved father downwards to his groin, his fingers wrapping around Miroku's arousal lightly. The grip tightened for a moment and then relaxed, causing Miroku to twitch in response to the changing sensation.

One of Miroku's arms worked its way up behind Sesshomaru's head, entangling itself in the long silver strands, the other loosely gripping Sesshomaru's wrist, silently encouraging him to continue his attentions. The demon complied readily enough, getting another growl from Miroku as he began stroking the young man's stiffened member, increasing the sensations tenfold. Miroku felt the demonic energies still present in his body seeming to pulse in time to the stimulation, and his hips began to keep time as well.

Miroku's movements naturally caused some friction between himself and his partner, and Sesshomaru responded to the sensation by gripping him a little tighter, the motions of his hand speeding up perceptibly. Miroku arched backwards, closing his eyes to focus only on the intense feelings emanating from his groin.

Naturally, Sesshomaru wasn't the kind to give without expectation of return, and so Miroku soon felt the male demon's own arousal pressing against him, seeking entrance. He forced himself to still for a moment, relaxing his muscles in anticipation of what was to come. He hissed slightly at the foreign sensation of another entering his body, but any discomfort was quickly lost as the attentions to his member were resumed at a further increased pace.

Before too long, he felt the pleasure beginning to build within him, each wave accumulating with the previous ones. A slow burning fire had lit all of his veins ablaze, and all he needed now was that final sweet release. It wasn't long in coming, his whole body tensing and quivering as he orgasmed. Sesshomaru continued to thrust into him, having not reached his own climax quite yet. Miroku simply relaxed in his grip, reveling in how Sesshomaru's movements acted to draw out his own ever so slowly fading pleasure.

Shortly, the male demon also froze in place, quivering slightly as he finished as well. For a long moment, the two were still, and then Sesshomaru pulled away and sat up. Miroku followed his example, slightly light headed as he felt the last of the demonic energies that had been plaguing him begin to fade away. His recent actions were beginning to sink in, and so was the one plausible cause.

Sighing, he leaned forward and placed his chin in one hand, closing his eyes as he spoke. “So, in the future I should really avoid taking female demon dogs into my Wind Tunnel during mating season.”

“It would be in your best interests to do so, human.” With that sage piece of advice, Sesshomaru got to his feet and moved over to his clothing. When Miroku opened his eyes again the dog demon was gone, having disappeared off to wherever he had come from.

The young monk sighed to himself. His little creek would come in handy once again tonight, so that he could clean himself up before returning to the others. It was probably best that InuYasha didn't pick up his older brother's scent on one of his friends, after all.

Rising to his feet, Miroku stepped over to the water. This was just one more little thing to be careful of in his already hectic life. But surely something like this shouldn't be too hard to avoid in the future…

A Moment Of Calm Reflection:
Ugh. I haven't watched InuYasha in months… I had to whip out a couple of episodes in order to get into something approaching the right character mindset for these guys. That's also why there's not much dialogue, which is different from most of my other stories.

And good gods above it was hard to work these two around to this! Yeesh! I bet everyone else just sez “Sesshomaru, though he'd never admit it, had always thought Miroku was Dead Sexy. And furthermore, since Sango wasn't putting out Miroku was ready to do anything that walked by. Therefore, they had sex.” This is not the case, I am almost positive. You gotta throw demonic influences in there, at least. My personal belief, that is.

And I THINK mountain dogs are usually solitary… I did as much research as my befuddled brain could handle at 2:30 am, and found nothing on them. How annoying. They exist, most certainly (here I reference Episode 56), but no one seems to care about them.

This story is named after the song by the electronica band “Jam and Spoon” which was on repeat the entire time I was writing. It has little to nothing to do with the actual story. Listen to it if you like, to see what kind of background I was working with while I wrote.

Why is `slitted' not a word in the MSWord dictionary? That seems dumb to me, especially when Miyazaki is a recognized word.

Plus my brain is rattling around in my head kind of loose-like… I'm a little tired. As usual.
