Wolves
“Koga! Koga!” Ginta and Hakku screamed as they ran toward the den.
“What?! What is it?” Koga ran outside. “What's the matter?!”
The two goofballs came to a stop, “There's a creature! It landed just over the hill! It smacked into a crow and then it crashed into the ground!”
“We don't know what it is,” Ginta squeaked.
Koga looked at the two of them, “You didn't even bother looking?” he cocked his head and raised an eyebrow.
“Uhhhh…” the two looked at each other.

“You're afraid of a crow?” Koga picked up the dead thing, which fell into two.
“No!” they barked. “It hit the crow!”
“Then it landed over that way!” Hakku pointed over a hill. Koga ran over the peak and down to the other side in no time at all. Ginta and Hakku followed him.
When they reached the bottom of the hill, Koga stopped and turned to face the wolves behind him. “You're afraid of girl?” Koga laughed. “And you call yourselves men!” he walked over to a lump of red and silver, it was San and she was still out cold.
The two imbeciles stared as Koga knelt beside her. He was about to look inside her red pouch, when she moaned and turned her head onto its side. Koga slid his hand under her back to prop her up.
“Hey, are you okay-?” He asked only to be cut off by San's reflex- powered fist which met his nose, and knocked the wolf backwards. San sat up and held her head in one hand, and squinted to see around her.
“Oh, what happened?” she whispered to herself. “W-where am I?” she looked around in fear and confusion, and then she heard Koga grumbling in pain.
“Oh! Ow! You- you-! Who do you think you are?!” Koga held his nose, fearing that if he let go, it would fall to the ground.
“Excuse me?” San stared at him.
“Why the hell did go and punch me?!” the wolf barked, muffled by his hands.
“Sorry, didn't know your were there,” San apologized, standing and kneeled beside him. “Here, let me take a look.”
“-No! You've done quite enough, thank you!” Koga tried to shove her away with one hand. But San grabbed it by the wrist and saw the blood that had drizzled on it.
“I can help, I know how to-”
“I don't your help! You probably broke it!” Koga stood, still holding his nose.
“Well, I know how to fix it, and it'll be cured within two weeks, tops!” she explained.
“Feh, you probably don't even know how to skin a rabbit!” he chuckled. “Besides, I'm a demon, and my body will heal itself in a day or two!” he very carefully released his hold on his nose, still bleeding a little bit. When he had convinced himself it was fine, he wiped away the blood that had spilt onto his mouth. Only then did he look at San, finding a shocked and almost spooked expression on her face. “What the hell is wrong now?”
“You're a- a-!” she froze in fear.
“Yeah, so? You're a half- demon,” he said uncaring. “J-just what are you doing out here anyway?”
“Uh, um…” she didn't know. In fact, all she could remember was that viper, and the fight, and… San's eyes widened. “I don't know,” she spoke almost silently.
“Oh, great! Another crack pot!” Koga threw up his arms and bellowed loudly.
“I'm not crazy!” San yelled back. But then, a strange tingling sensation filled her head, so much, that she gasped. Subsequently she found herself seeing two things glowing from the wolf's legs. They were a pinkish color, and very shiny.
“What's wrong with her now?” Koga glanced at Ginta and Hakku, and then focused on San; he approached her, and her gaze followed the two lights. Koga waved a hand in front of her eyes.
San shook her head and looked at Koga, “Hey, what's goin' on with you-?”
“What's in your legs?” San asked without thinking.
“My, wha-?”
“Your legs, there are two pink things glowing inside of them,” San said without hesitating. Koga's expression changed into surprise.
“You can see Shikon shards?!” he stammered.
“Shikon shards? -As in the Shikon Jewel?” San asked now puzzled.
“Yes, you can see them?” Koga stared at her.
“I- I guess so,” San said softly.
“Then we're in business!” the wolf smiled in a wicked fashion.
“What?” San stared, almost dazed.
“Com'on!” Koga grabbed the girl's upper arm and started dragging her towards the wolf den.
“Hey!” she screeched. “Let go!” San began tugging herself the other way, but really didn't make much headway in doing so, for Koga was much stronger than she. Koga felt a pain in his hand and immediately released her, the girl had bit him.
“Do I have to lug you?” he explained.
Ginta and Hakku quietly watched the whole scene from a safe distance.
“Just who do you think you are, buddy?” San poked his chest with every word she hollered.
“I'm your new commander! And together, we're going to retrieve all the shards of this region!” Koga boasted.
“I don't think so!” San barked. “I'm not a freakin' `Jewel-detector' for your pleasure!” She protested.
“Says who?”
“Says me!”
“Well who cares what you say? You're a woman!” he snapped.
The hybrid growled. She did not like this man who was so rudely bossing her around. Then a cold nose was nuzzling San's hand. This made all her anger evaporate, she looked down to see a wolf, and it wanted to play.
“Awwwww!” she squealed. “You're so cute!” she forgot the wolf man, and bent down and started baby talking to the animal. She held its head in her hands and she playfully shook its head like it was a doll. The wolf barked and wagged its tail.
Koga's mouth dropped, his wolf whined for more. He tore San from him and stood between them.
“What's your problem, man?!” San stared angrily at him.
“You mean, `what's yours'!” he growled.
“I was only petting him,” she exclaimed.
“You don't `pet' man-eating wolves!” he snarled at her.
“Man-eating?” San said, rather surprised.
“But, Koga,” Ginta quietly remarked. “You made us stop eating men after you proposed to Kagome.”
The wolf leader growled for he had been beaten.
“Kagome,” the half-breed whispered. “You knew my mother?”
Knew?!” the wolf stared at her. “-Your- your mother?!” he stared at the girl, what was she talking about?!
“Yes, my mother. -Wait!” she gasped in excitement. “You're Koga! the wolf that fell in love with her before my father married her!”
“Hold on! Who's your father?!” he was quite puzzled and was getting tired of the joke.
“You mean, `was', both of my parents are dead,” San pointed out.
“Dead?! -I just saw Kagome last week!”
“My mother's been dead for over ten years,” San's eyes became twisted. “and my father,” she added.
“Okay, you must be insane!” he laughed. “So, tell me, who is your `father'?”
“Inu-Yasha,” San said flatly, angered that the wolf wasn't taking her seriously at all.
Koga choked on air, did he hear her correctly? “Dog-breath?!” he screamed. “No!-no! My Kagome would never give herself away to someone of the likes of him!” Koga glared at her. “So,” he laughed, rather amused and interested in this story of hers. “What's your name, `daughter' of Inu-Yasha and Kagome?”
“San, and I see why my mother stuck with my father, because you're so full of yourself she couldn't stand you!”
“-Hold your tongue, brat! Kagome loves me! -not that filthy, fleabag, mutt!” Koga roared at the girl.
“Why should I? -You're not my father!”
“I don't care! But as of right now, I'm your damn daddy! Now pipe down before I rip that mouth off your face!” Koga hoisted San up before she could object, and flung her across his shoulder.
“You put me down, you-!”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, I hear you!” Koga mocked her and headed for the wolf den.
“You are so dead!” she beat his back in a mad frenzy.
“Yeah, and you're Mutt-face and Kagome's daughter!” he howled as he felt her slapping the crap out of his back. Maybe she's more trouble than she's worth, he thought, keeping a strong hold on her legs as she tried to kick them.

It wasn't long before they reached the cave; San stared at the waterfall as if Koga were the crazy one, only to realize that it was brilliant to hide your home behind such a thing.
No sooner had they entered the den, there was a crowd gathering around them:
“Who's the broad?”
“Broad?!” San glared at the men, for she had never been treated like such.
“Are we going to eat her?” a few smiled.
“Let's have a little fun with her first!” others laughed.
Koga ignored their comments as he walked to the back of the cave, but San could not, it was all she could do to stay calm. Koga tossed her onto a mound of dried straw and grasses, obviously meant to be a bed.
“We are not eating her,” Koga stated calmly, while some `aw'-ed in disappointment. He put his hands on his waist. “She is Kagome's `daughter', she is our `guest', so behave yourselves!” he mocked her so.
“Hey! I'm a toy ya know!” She barked, standing up and walking towards Koga.
“Oh, pipe down, princess!” Koga pushed her down with one hand when she was close to him. San fell onto the mat and glared at him. “You gonna bite my head off again, brat?” he chuckled.
“San!”
“Whatever, mutt.”
“San!” she bellowed. “Not brat and not mutt!”
“Do you ever shut up, whelp?” Koga stared at her with half open eyes.
“San! -not whelp!” she growled.
“Apparently not,” Koga spoke, rather bored now. “Well, I hope you have a pleasant stay amongst us wolves,” he joked himself. “Enjoy your visit, for it is going to be a long one!”
And with that, Koga left. San was going to race after him, but as soon as she had taken a few steps, the crowd of wolves enclosed on her, but didn't dare get any closer than they were. San stepped backwards and a daring wolf man tripped her. All laughed, the girl quickly found her feet again and pulled Tetsusaiga from its sheath. It was not at all menacing, but it made her feel more secure than she was.

Several hours had pasted, most of the wolves had left her soon after she started waving her sword around, but at this time, she had given up her will to try to escape, even though the whole den was nothing but men. She was lying on the `bed' and was fingering a piece of straw through her fingers, thinking about the past day's events.
She not only was scarcely guarded by the wolf men, which most were outside, fearing she would try to pull something or other, and then in turn be in trouble with Koga. All that had stayed inside the cave were a few wolves who begged San for attention almost the entire time. She did not know what they were saying, if they said anything at all, but she really didn't care, for they made her feel like she was wanted, other than being Koga's slave.
A large buck went flying into the den, it landed, dead. As soon as it was still from the fall, San realized that the animal had been dead to begin with, at least for half an hour or more by that time. She stared at it with great confusion.
Koga came strolling in soon after, taking no heed of the girl, like he had forgotten she was even there. Understanding that Koga had killed the animal for the evening meal, San gently pushed the wolves aside, who were more than happy to line up for their share anyways. She stood and walked over to the deer, she stood, looking over Koga, who was busying himself with the cutting of the meat. San loomed there for quite some time before he seemed to notice the two legs in front of him.
He finally looked up, and then stood himself, towering over the girl. San only came up to about his shoulder, at most. There for a minute, they stared at each other, doing nothing else.
“I suppose you want some?” Koga finally broke the silence.
“Wouldn't hurt,” she looked at the ground and then at the wolf man.
He frowned and shoved the leg into her chest, “Here. That should hold ya.”
San took it, and smiled, meant nothing, “Thanks.”

San rolled over, it was after dusk now, everyone was practically asleep or they were talking while they were digesting their hardy meal. But San's stomach turned, it hurt.
Oh! Why the hell did I eat the damn thing? I knew it was raw- argh! She cringed at the thought of the taste.
“Hey! Get out of my bed!” Koga growled, for San was hogging his bed.
“No,” San put her back to him.
“You get out of my bed right now!” his face tightened.
“Ok! First of all, my name is not `you', it's San; and second, if you look at this pile of rubbish, you would notice that it doesn't even resemble a bed!” San glared up at him over her shoulder, angering the wolf.
“Then get out of it,” he suggested calmly.
“No.”
“Stupid-! Get out-!”
“My name is not `stupid' either!”
“Mutt-!”
“No, not `mutt'…”
“Why you-?!” Koga was about to rupture.
“Haven't we been through this?” San said to herself aloud.
“-Get out of my bed!” Koga bellowed loudly.
San threw a bone, left over from her leg, at the wolf, knocking him in the head; there was a hollow sound which followed soon after.
“Argh!!”
“Shut up! Can't you see that people are trying to sleep?!” San made herself comfy by shifting her weight around. She heard Koga sigh.
He moved over to the far side of the bed, which was big enough for four, and made a small section for himself.
San pulled out her father's kimono and wrapped herself up with it. She could tell this was going to be interesting.

Although her stomach hurt, San slept rather well that night, and her nightmares didn't bother her.
