Inuyasha sat by the well, looking down it. Kagome had been gone for 3 months now, and there was still no sign that she was planning on coming back. He sighed again for the hundredth time. He had attempted to go after Kagome right after she sat him, but Miroku held him back, saying that she needed time to cool off, and then he could go and apologize without serious risk of being sat to death.
So Inuyasha had waited three days before attempting to go and getting her. But when he jumped down the well, he hadn’t been able to cross. And as far as he could tell, the well was now an ordinary dried up well.
Growling under his breath, Inuyasha stood up and leaped down the well in an attempt to cross. He landed hard at the bottom, and just like he expected, the well wouldn’t let him cross. Spouting some rather colorful curses, Inuyasha headed back to the village.
He entered Keade’s hut, glowered at the occupants, and sat down by the fire. Sango, Miroku, Shippou, and Keade just ignored him. They were used to this by now.
“Why the hell would she stay gone this long? ” Inuyasha threw this question in no particular direction. “I mean, what I said wasn’t that bad, and I was just concerned for her, but do you think she understood that? NO Of course not All she heard was that I thought she was hiding something ”
“You compared her to Kikyou again, Inuyasha. You know she doesn’t like that.” Sango sighed. Inuyasha just didn’t understand that Kagome felt second rate when he talked about Kikyou.
“I think she’s just taking a holiday.” Miroku said. “I can’t blame her. We’re always fighting demons, and she does have her own life to live in her own era. I’m sure she’ll be back soon.”
“Like now?” Inuyasha said. He was sitting on all fours, his head turned to stare out the window his ears focused firmly in the direction he was looking. He looked more like a dog than a half demon at that moment.
“What?”
“I smell her. She’s back.” As soon as he said the words he stood up and headed for the door.
“No, Inuyasha ” Miroku jumped in front of him, blocking his way out. “Let Sango and I go. We’ll bring her back here. If you go, she might get angry and leave again.”
“What are you saying, monk? That I’ll make her mad?” Inuyasha scowled down at him.
“Yes, now just stay here and let us go get her.” When Miroku was sure Inuyasha was going to stay, he stepped back and walked out of the hut. Sango and Shippou followed after him.
They quickly made their way to the well, and what they saw when they approached stopped them in their tracks.
“Kagome?”
Kagome, who was leaning over the well, straightened and looked at her old companions. Sango gasped, Miroku’s jaw hung open, and Shippou fell off on Sango’s shoulder. There, Kagome stood before them, but not the young girl from three months ago. No, in her place was a beautiful grown woman. She was slightly taller than before, and her body had filled out in all the right places. Her breasts were larger and her legs were more shapely, and her exposed legs legs and arms showed muscles that had been developed. But other than this shocking transformation was the features that were Kagome. Her hair was now very short in the back, but longer in the front, and it wasn’t just black any longer. Her hair had red streaks going through it. Her face was slightly thinner, like it lost the baby fat of youth. Her clothes had changed as well. Instead of the green and white uniform of her school, Kagome was wearing a soft green suede skirt, and a soft brown suede shirt.
Kagome registered who had called her name and smiled at them. “Sango Miroku, and Shippou Look at you You haven’t changed a bit ” She walked over the them and embraced her friends. Kagome pulled back and looked at them again, frowning. “My, you really haven’t changed, have you? How is that possible? Shippou, at least you should be taller.”
“What are you talking about Kagome? You’re the one that’s changed. You looked like you’ve been gone for years, not three months.” Miroku looked her up and down, sincerely regretting not showering his attentions on her before. A slap to the back of his head said that Sango saw the look and was not appreciating his eyeing of their friend.
Kagome blinked. “Three months?” She closed her eyes and sighed. “I really have messed things up.” She reopened her eyes and looked at her comrades. “It might only be three months here, but in my time, I’ve been gone six years.”
“Are you kidding? How did that happen? Time was flowing at the same pace before.” Miroku looked at her, being careful to only focus on her face.
“I’m not sure, but a lot of bad things are happening in my time, and I think it’s because I hadn’t finished gathering the Shikon no Tama together. The changing of speed between our eras is only one effect.” Kagome sighed. “I’ll go into it more later, but can we go back to the village? I’m really tired.”
“Sure thing. I’ll grab your bag.” Miroku made a move towards Kagome’s bag, but stopped when he saw her turn back to the well.
“You can come out, now.” Kagome said. On the other side of the well, popped up a little silver-white head. The little child moved out from behind the well and walked up to Kagome, taking her hand. The little girl looked over at the new people. She had long silver-white hair that nearly touched the ground. Her eyes were a powder blue that had flecks of gold in them. She had little puppy ears that resembled Inuyasha’s. She had little fangs and claws, as well. But on her forehead, a violet crescent moon showed between her bangs.
“Momma, are these people your friends you told me about?”
“Yes. Let me introduce you.” Kagome led the little girl forward. “Miroku, Sango, Shippou, this is Ayla. Ayla, this is Miroku, Sango and-”
“Shippou ” The little girl giggled clapping her hands.
Miroku, Sango, and Shippou just stared, awestruck at the child.
