Chapter Twenty One
What to Do?
Kagome was not happy with the way things had turned out, but she had made an ultimate decision about things. Her relationship with Inuyasha was officially over.
Naraku still needed killing. The Shikon Jewel still needed finding. There was only one option. She had to remain in the Fuedal Era to complete her tasks. And this time there would be no hanyous to slow her down.
She looked at Dark.
Nope. Just a vain thief with a humongous ego. She could deal with that.
"Dark. How long can you stay here?" She asked.
"Emiko will kill me for it, but as long as you'd like me to."
"Will you help me kick some guy's ass and find the rest of the Shikon no Tama?"
"Only if there are hugs involved!" Dark implied. Miroku laughed and Sango looked at him. "Hugs?" She asked.
Dark gave her a suggestive glance. "Yeah, hugs. Why? You got any on ya?"
Miroku stepped in front of Sango, but instead of looking angry, he was skeptical. "What have you got to offer, my friend?"
"I always was a man for a bargain. What is it that you'll be willing to trade for?"
Sango laughed while Kagome rolled her eyes. She grabbed the huntress's arm and dragged her along. "Careful. Dark might steal hiraikotsu or..." Kagome's expression darkened. "Something worse."
Sango frowned and looked back at Dark. Anything that could be offending to her dignity was enough to worry over. "So now we have another pervert instead of Inuyasha."
Kagome flinched visibly. Sango looked guilty. "I'm sorry. Are you okay after all that?"
"Yeah. I'm just ashamed that I let that much of my life be wasted on him."
The huntress nodded. "And Dark?"
Kagome smiled briefly. "He's all mine."
Sango laughed. "You haven't told him? You should." She said when Kagome shook her head. "He's much nicer to look at."
"Anything for a good piece of eye candy."
They laughed together. Kagome only thought how wonderful it was to be at the taijiya's side again. "Sango, I will leave once I find the Shikon no Tama. Dark still has problems of his own in the future."
Sango nodded, understandingly. "It's okay. We'll enjoy the time we have together now. So once we defeat Naraku, if we can-"
"We can." Kagome nodded. "Fighting Naraku will be easier for Dark. He's not a fool like Inuyasha. He won't normally jump mindlessly into a battle. He understands more about demons and such too. And I've had another thought."
"What?"
Kagome sighed, almost afraid to let the absurd idea slip from her lips. "We should get help from Sesshoumaru. He might accept more willingly since we have no more hanyou troubles."
"It's an excellent idea. We might work better as a team. Then there's the question of what to do with the Shikon Jewel once we have it."
"Initially, I think Inuyasha was planning to use it on Kikyo and himself. She would live again and he would be a human, the way she wanted it." Kagome frowned, no longer caring for the idea. "But...." She glanced at Dark and Miroku who were now walking behind them.
"In the future, Dark and Krad are two halves of a whole. Both demons who rely on the strengths of the one they posess. I could separate both sides and give the two demons lives of their own. Then of course, me and Dark would have to something about Krad, but that would help out a lot."
"It's an option that we didn't have before and I'm sure that your friend would appreciate it."
Kagome smiled. "Yeah. They both would."
"What about," Sango hesitated. "Kikyo and Inuyasha?"
"Let them be. I don't owe them anything else. As a matter of fact, I never owed them anything at all." She didn't, she realized and didn't understand why she thought she did.
"Good. It's about time that that's dealt with. So what now?"
"Koga first. We'll have to take his shards. I think there might be one more after that, but the jewel is very nearly complete."
"Are you sure it's just one?"
"Yeah, with Koga's. I got one from the present from Dark."
"Very well. I guess it's time to get to work."
Kagome nodded and looked at the sky. And this time, there would be no distractions.
