She is Love.
Chapter One: The Whore.
The large, Western-style oak door of the temple groaned loudly as he pushed it open, stepping outside for some fresh air. Standing there, alone, for a few minutes, he spun in a complete circle; spying the stairs that led down to the street, he started walking, remaining in angry silence as he passed underneath the large red torii. Practically bouncing down the stairs, he knew that he was now downwind of the shrine; the familiar smell of flowers invaded his nostrils, and he cursed the kid for smelling just like his big sister.
“Inuyasha-sama!”
He didn't stop, even when Souta reached his side. The preteen had grown into a healthy adult; he'd even married and given poor Ms. Higurashi a coupl'a grandkids. They were an obnoxious pair, already grown as well, and he'd named his older child, a son, after his and Kagome's father Sachi. His younger one, the daughter, was named after his lost sister.
Kagome.
Thank the Kamis the young wench didn't look anything like her aunt, he'd always thought. `She damn sure acts like her, though,' he thought, stopping at the bottom of the stairs and looking, reluctantly, at Souta. `Always buttin' into shit. Must've gotten that from her dad.'
“What's wrong, Inuyasha-sama?” the kid asked him. The hanyou shook his head, sighing as he ran his fingers through his thick mane of hair. He'd stopped using the concealment decades ago, and now, here he stood, in front of the Sunset Shinto Shrine, with long, silver hair, golden eyes, white koinu ears, wearing the traditional black wedding kimono.
He glared at Souta. “The wedding's off,” he told the kid, who had grown up to become a priest like his sister and grandfather.
Souta's bright face fell, and he looked more confused than ever. Inuyasha took in how old the kid was getting; his black hair was graying in spots, and his face was becoming more elastic. His metabolism was slowing, and his build was widening, showing his age. Souta Higurashi was becoming an old man pretty quickly, and it hurt the hanyou to see it. Pretty soon, the only remnant he would have left of the old life would be Shippo, and that runt had grown up so fast he still felt as if his head was spinning.
“Why are you calling off the wedding?” Souta wanted to know.
Inuyasha growled through gnashed teeth. “Because the bitch is a lying, cheating whore! I overheard a waiter gossiping with one of Kimiko's damned bridesmaids. She's been sleeping with some fucking ningen for the past eight godsdamned months!” He paced a little, turning his face away from Souta's shocked eyes.
“You do know,” the priest said in a low voice he was sure that the inuhanyou would be able to hear, “that my sister would have never cheated on you.”
The kid turned away then, leaving Inuyasha alone on the sidewalk. Crossing his arms over his chest, he watched as Souta disappeared over the top of the stairs, into the shrine.
There was no way he saw that damned girl come flying at him on her damned Vespa.
The two crashed to the rocky, uneven sidewalk. The Vespa was stopped on the stairs, fallen over on its side. It was slightly battered, black marking up the bright, sunny yellow of the body. Inuyasha groaned loudly, holding his head as he and the girl sat up. Somehow, she'd ended up in his lap, and he wasn't entirely sure of how that had happened.
“Oh, sorry, sir, sorry, sorry!”
He sighed, finally opening his eyes to look at her. She was tall and lanky, wearing a pair of indigo jeans tucked black combat boots and a slightly revealing bright yellow top. The v-cut neckline of the top dipped rather low, baring her more than adequate cleavage. Inuyasha jumped a little at the sight of her bare chest, and he blushed, gasping, when he realized that his body was reacting to it.
At last, he raised his eyes, finding her face.
The first thing that he noticed was her lip piercing. It was on the right side of her bottom lip, a simple, thin silver hoop. Next he zoned in on her ears, following the piercing idea; they, too, were line with silver studs and hoops. Returning to her face, Inuyasha found that her eyes were a bright, brilliant grey, illuminating her pale, heart-shaped face. Her hair was short, about shoulder-length, and wildly curly; it was a deep black, with tones and streaks of bright blue and fiery red. A pair of yellow driving goggles adorned the top of her head, shoving her scraggly bangs back messily.
The girl in question stared at him, her pretty pink lips forming an “O” of surprise as she took in his own appearance. Then she blinked in a small amount of confusion, shifting in Inuyasha's lap. His eyes widened when he realized what exactly was going on. Grasping her firmly by her - `shudder, luscious,' he thought - hips, he lifted her up, helping her back up to her shaky feet.
“Thanks,” she mumbled, eyeing him curiously and dusting herself off as he, too, climbed to his feet. “Sorry `bout the crash. Damn tourists… If they don't know how to drive through Tokyo, then they don't need to come here!” She let loose an incredibly aggravated growl, and Inuyasha's eyebrows raised at the slightly amusing sound.
“I take it you're blaming your shitty driving on American tourists?” Inuyasha wanted to know, crossing his arms over his chest and looking her over closely. She had a bruise on her arm; Inuyasha guessed that this wasn't her first accident on the damnable moped.
The girl gave him a nasty look. “No,” she replied icily. “I get cut off all the time by these crazies.” She looked him over with an equally critical eye. “Are you getting married today or something?”
He looked down at himself, spreading his arms. Sighing, he shook his head, dropping his arms back down to his sides. “I was,” he answered in a gruff voice, glaring back at the young woman. She blinked, taking a tiny step back. Inuyasha continued, “I just called off the wedding a few minutes ago.”
She gawked at him, grey eyes wide. “Bu-But why? Were you two not happy or something?”
Inuyasha snorted. “Or something,” he mumbled. Raising his voice, he went on, “Tanaka Kimiko is a lying, cheating whore who's been sleeping with her damned ningen yoga instructor for eight months.”
“Ugh,” the girl said, shaking her head. Inuyasha watched her, puzzled by her reaction to his words. “I know her. She's a stuck-up bitch. Funny that she's a whore too.”
His golden eyes widened considerably at her words. “You know her?”
The girl grinned brightly at him. “Oh, yea. I went to high school with her. Her and the two kids that live here in the Sunset Shrine, Kagome and Sachi Higurashi. Nice kids, but I think shrine life warps you beyond repair.” Inuyasha laughed lightheartedly for the first time in several years.
“Hey, what did you say your name was again?” he asked her.
She chuckled gently. “I didn't,” she answered, picking her Vespa up by the handles and setting it back upright. Smiling at him again, she went on, “But it's Kasumi. Kasumi Aino.”
Suddenly, as soon as her own name slipped past her lips, her grey eyes darted upward, to the top of his head. His amber eyes widened when he realized what it was that she'd spotted, and his hands snapped upward, grabbing his poor, neglected ears. Inuyasha held his breath momentarily when he thought that it'd been decades since he'd last let someone touch his ears.
Kasumi doubled over in laughter, grabbing her stomach with her arm. She shook her head, trying to stand up straight again. “No, no,” she huffed between giggles, “don't worry! I wouldn't dare touch your ears! I barely know you! I was just a little astounded to see such a strong, human-like hanyou.” She leaned against the righted Vespa, smiling sweetly at him. “You don't see many like you nowadays.”
Inuyasha's throat suddenly tightened, and he felt tears well up in his eyes. `That smile…' he murmured.
“I'm Inuyasha, by the way,” he told her as she climbed onto her vehicle. “Inuyasha Taisho.”
The smile maintained. “Well, hello and goodbye, Inuyasha Taisho, still bachelor.” Kasumi pulled the goggles down over her eyes, starting up the moped. “Don't let the whore getcha down.” And she was off, zooming past Inuyasha and down the street, dodging cars and honking like a mad woman. Inuyasha smirked when he saw her flip someone off.
“Man, is she weird now or what?” The hanyou started, jumping a little and spinning around. Shippo stood nice and tall behind him, wearing a formal black kimono similar to his own, his hands buried deep in his hakama pockets. He gave his godfather a toothy grin, shaking his head. “And, yes, I recognized her, too. Who could ever forget that smile?”
Sesshomaru was gliding easily down the stairs behind the kitsune, his face blank as a new canvas. He sniffed the air a little. “I assume that means that the whore in the bridal gown is, in fact, not the priestess's reincarnation?” Shippo shook his head, and Sesshomaru turned without another word, ascending the steep, white stairs.
Inuyasha sighed. Shippo gave him a regretful look before holding his arm out to lead Inuyasha up the stairs and back up into the main grounds of the shrine. “C'mon, Dad,” the fox said as they started climbing back up the stairs. Souta stood at the top beside Sesshomaru, watching them as they approached. “Let's go give Kimi the bad news.”
“What bad news, runt?”
“That she will not be the next Mrs. Inuyasha Taisho.”
“Keh.”
