Sooo if you haven't read the end of the manga, there will be spoilers in laterr chapters.

Chapter 2: How it all began.

“I cant believe that jerk!” The young miko hollered, throwing open the door of the hut that she shared with the inu hayou, it wasn't a big fancy hut nor was it a small one as Kaedes'. It was a nice sized hut including 3 rooms, one being the living room which was the first to come to once you walked in, it was the largest of the rooms with a cozy fireplace in the middle, soft cotton materials surrounded around the fire they were used as a nice seating place for Kagome when she would cook, or when she and Inuyasha would just relax and just stare at the fire in a comfortable silence, enjoying just being together. The next room was the bedroom, well more like Kagome's bedroom, Inuyasha didn't like sleeping inside so much, Kagome didn't know why, no matter how much she told him it was okay if he slept beside her, he would always have this unreadable expression on his face, turn red and then just walk away, so after a while Kagome just gave up on it, as long as Inuyasha was happy Kagome was fine with it. The bedroom was much smaller then the living room, having only a cot right by the farthest wall feather filled pillows were laid neatly at the end of the bed, including silky blankets, and then a simple wooden closet in which Inuyasha build all by himself, it was just like the closest Kagome had in her room back in her old home, it was filled with all the kimonos and outfits the town villagers had gotten for her for being such a big help in the village, some of them she bought with her own money which she got from making medicine and selling it with Kaede , the most expensive kimono in the closest was the one Inuyasha had bought for her to wear at the firefly festival that the village held each year. That night had to be the best day of her life, she had never seen Inuyasha smile or laugh so much in her life... it was even the night where Inuyasha and her shared a special moment under the blue moon, as they danced to the band that played their instruments. Anyway onto the third room, that room... Kagome wasn't entirely sure what that room was for, but it was right next to Kagome's room, it was a bit smaller then Kagomes but not too much. Right now it was empty. Kagome had always asked him why he had built an extra room if he wasn't planning on doing anything with it... but he never answered her, Oh well. I guess Inuyasha just thought it would be useful in some way.

 

Continuing her way into the hut, she went straight to her bedroom and jumped onto the silk covers of her cot, warm tears pricking at the bottom of her eyes, getting ready to fall. “Stupid Inuyasha...” Kagome choked out, allowing the tears to fall from her eyes and roll down her soft rosy cheeks. “I can't believe he doesn't trust me... I didn't do anything to be un-trusted!” in her anger, she grabbed one of the pillows and threw it over to the door, watching it bounce off the door covering and fall to the ground softly without a sound. 'What am I, 5?' Sighing at her childish act, she curled up into a little ball, trying to hide from the pain she was feeling, trying desperately to get away from it all, oh why couldn't she and Inuyasha get along? They were getting along so good, she actually thought they were getting somewhere... but ever since Kouga came to her that night... everything changed.

 

**FlashBack**

 

It was just about night time, as the sun was quickly setting over the horizon, coating the sky into darkness by each slight move it made. It was a beautiful out, the wind was blowing ever so gently, while the autumn air gifting the land with it's gentle scent.

 

“Oh wow, it's so beautiful!” Kagome cheered loudly as she spotted the river she had been searching for, the one that Sango had recommended, dropping her bow and arrows she began throwing off her shirt and then kicking off her red kimono pants, revealing a light green bikini underneath, Kagome had shown the villagers how to make such things so when the children wanted to play in the water without being naked they could. She thanked the gods above for making such things, she defiantly didn't wanna be swimming in her naked state, especially since she was alone. Inuyasha had gone off with Miroku to exercise some demon in the next village, then Inuyasha was suppose to come straight home. At least that's what Kagome told him to do, she didn't want him out all the time, he was going to ware himself out. Yeah, yeah, he was a hayou he couldn't be wore out so easily. Whatever, she didn't care, she wanted Inuyasha to relax once in a while. Naraku was gone, the Shikon jewel disappeared and Kikyou was finally out of their hair. Life couldn't be more great, she just had to show him and so far, she was doing one heck of a job.

 

Stepping into the river, a low moan escaped Kagome's lips, the water felt so good against her sore ankles, she had been on her feet all day today, going all around the village helping the village people with whatever they needed, and then she had a long session with Kaede in the forest, Kaede was showing her all different kinds of herbs. Finally slipping her whole body into the cool water, Kagome was able to lean back against the land, letting her head fall back, enjoying how the small gentle waves came crashing onto her. Sango was right, this river had to be the warmest, gentlest, and not to mention the cleanest river around. “This river is so nice... I'm going to have to take Inuyasha here sometime...” the miko mumbled softly to herself, a smile forming its way onto her face, her heart skipping a beat as she thought of the inu hayou. “Heh, Inuyasha would probably be too stubborn to come to a place like this with me...” She giggled loudly, just picturing the face he would make if she asked him such a thing. He already had a hard time being around her when she was dressed the way she was now. The way she could tell was because Inuyasha would always go red, silent and wouldn't take his eyes off her, she swore she caught him drooling a couple of times. Her girly giggles quickly turned into full on laughter as she remembered each time Inuyasha would drool over her. God did she love having his attention.

 

Behind her, un-noticed by her was a demon, hiding behind an old oak tree just a few feet away, watching her with lustful eyes. The demon had to gripped the tree trunk just to keep himself from jumping the beauty, he loved this women, he didn't ever want to hurt her, especially by having him go out of control and then him raping her, that would be just horrible, he wouldn't be able to live with himself. Sighing loudly to himself, he cursed himself for even looking at her in such a state... Elf like ears lifted up quickly hearing something very familiar ..

 

“Holy Fuck!” He ducked quickly, just missing the sharp silver pointed arrow which was now stuck in the tree truck of where his head was. 'Whoa that was close...' that came out of no where, he cursed himself again for not paying attention. But that arrow... it was Kagomes!

 

“You pervert! Just who the hell are you?!” notching another arrow, Kagome pointed it to the shadow figure in the woods, lining the end of the arrow to her eye, trying to get a good aim. She might have missed the first shot, but this time she wasn't planning on missing, especially if the guy planned on just watching her like that, what a creeper! “Answer me demon!” a light purple aura began to surround her as she tightened her grip on the bow.

 

Gulping, he stood up shakingly , still not revealing himself quite yet. He sensed her aura getting stronger and he could just see how much power she was putting into that single arrow. Was she seriously planning on killing him?! 'Well no shit, she thinks it's some creepy guy trying to come after her.' His mind said smugly. 'Just get the hell out there and show her who you are!'

 

“That's it, you're gonna get it!” Before she even had a chance to let go of the string, the creature stepped out quickly from the tree, revealing himself to her. A Grin plastered on the demon's face as he carried a single yellow flower in his hand. “k-Kouga...?”

 

“Hey sweet cheeks, I see you haven't forgotten about me.” Kouga said flirtatiously, “I'm glad.”

 

Kagome must have been seeing things... was that really Kouga? Blinking her eyes rapidly, she lowered her bow, the spiritual power she was collecting vanished quickly, as she looked him over. The demon sure did look like Kouga... He had the same Big blue eyes, he was a few inches taller, his hair had grown out and was still in a high ponytail, he was wearing the same armor as before, but this time it was more thicker and had royal symbols written on his chest place. Kouga looked like a true prince. 3 years... it's been a long time since she last seen him.

 

“What's the matter Kagome...?” Kouga's voice was gentle as he stepped before her, cupping her right cheek in the palm of his hand, rubbing his thumb over her rosy cheek. “You're as beautiful as ever...” His eyes bored into hers, as she was quickly knocked out of her thoughts at the touch of his rough hand.

 

“Kouga...” she smiled brightly, jumping into his arms, wrapping her arms around his waist, “Oh my god Kouga, I can't believe it's you! I mean...” she pulled back from the shocked wolf demon, her hands on his chest pushing softly to look at his face. “It's been so long...” Her heart was throbbing against her chest, as she looked up at her old friend who she thought she had lost. Now don't get Kagome wrong, but she enjoyed being around Kouga, he was such a good friend, he would always listen, give her advice... he was kind of like a brother to her. Although, he had romantic feelings for her... well at least he did last time they saw each other, she hoped he still didn't. But just the look in his eyes told her that he loved her... oh boy... not this again. Kagome mentally groaned.

 

“Yeah I know! I've missed you Kagome.” Kouga smiled back, as Kagome stepped back some more so she stood in front of the wolf, no longer touching him. “I-uhh- heard you--- uhh were back and so-- well-- I had to come see you.” He held out the yellow flower in his hand to her, “It's not much-- but it's one of the rare flowers from in the mountains where I'm from.” He scratched the back of his head nervously, chuckling dumbly.

 

“Aw, thanks Kouga.” She gladly accepted the gift, “You're such a good friend. I'm glad you came to see me.”

 

“Uhh yeah no problem.” He smirked, winking at her. Kagome gulped and looked down at the flower in her hand.

 

Okay this was a bit awkward , Kouga was trying to flirt with her... Did he not know that she was living with Inuyasha? He must have, Inuyasha's scent was all over her. She bit her lip nervously, not knowing what else to say. Then a thought came to her.

 

“So Kouga, have you and Ayame decided to settle down now?” She asked quickly, before Kouga would open his mouth and say something flirty. A frown instantly replaced his smile, she heard him sign and saw him put a hand to his head, scratching lightly, and then closing his eyes.

 

“Well about that...” Kouga began slowly, re-opening his eyes, glancing down at the innocent little miko in front of him, looking at him with her gorgeous grayish eyes. She was staring at him with such wonder in her eyes... Damn she looked so cute. Oh how he wished he could just take her as a mate... but he could already smell the damn puppy all over her. His stench was covering her, even though she just got from the water, his scent was mixing with hers... Inuyasha must have been trying to get his scent all over her so other demons would know to stay back... Inuyasha was planning on claiming her. This was the first step of claiming a mate. Mixing ones scent with the other to tell other demons to stay away and that she was already getting mated soon. Judging by how strong the hayous scent was on her, the step was almost done. So it wasn't completed yet... Inuyasha must have had doubts then... 'Heh, this is perfect, if I can get my scent to mix in with hers, I can easily push Inuyasha's scent away since I am a full demon and he is only half... the only problem is, Kagome lives with the damn mutt... so I would need a plan... because just a bit more and Inuyasha's scent will completely take over her and no other demon will be able to have a chance.'

 

“Uhh... Kouga...? Are you okay?” Kagome asked questionably, poking his chest softly, trying to get him out of the daze he was in. Just what in the hell was he thinking so hard about? Did he need to think about if he should tell her? “Listen Kouga. It's okay if you're with Ayame you know.” Kagome smiled, “I'm happy for you.”

 

Just put a gun to his chest and pull the trigger, that hit him hard. She was happy for him if he was with Ayame? His eyes dropped and his frown had gotten bigger, looking away, Kouga sighed.

 

“If it's that hard to talk about, you don't have to talk about it.” Kagome said hurriedly, seeing the hurt expression on his face. She didn't mean to hurt him, by mentioning Ayame, Did something happen between him and her that he was crushed about? Did she turn him down?! Impossible... the wolf girl was obsessed with him...

 

“It's... not that.” He shook his head slowly, turning his attention back to her, he let out a small smile, and then grabbed her hands. “That's actually what I wanted to talk to you about.” He motioned her over to the river side, he plopped down to the soft soil and motioned for Kagome to join him, she hesitated, but did so.

 

“What is it Kouga?”

 

“Well. The mating season for demons is coming up...”

 

“Mating season...?” She questioned. That sounded strangely familiar .. Kaede told her a little about it, but not to much. Kaede told her that Inuyasha should be the one to tell her. Kagome always wondered what was so great about it, even little Shippou mentioned it. Saying that he was happy that he wasn't grown up fully yet, because the mating ritual was to confusing and complicated...

 

Kouga nodded, “It is where a demon who has reached a certain age, has to pick a women or man to spend the rest of their life with, they will be bounded together by the goddess who lives in a deep cave to the west. It's a big deal for us demons.” Kouga explained proudly. “And you see, I am at that age where I have to pick a mate. I've decided that for my pack, I will mate Ayame so our packs can group together and dominate the whole eastern lands.”

 

“Oh Kouga that sounds great.” Kagome smiled, clapping her hands together, she was happy for him. Excitement filled her eyes as she could just picture Ayame's smiling face as Kouga would purpose to her. It was so romantic... she wondered if Inuyasha was at the certain age of mating... 'Ahh what am I thinking!?' Kagome shouted to herself, her face turning into a bright red. Even if Inuyasha was at that age... he would of told her by now... right?

 

Gritting his fangs together, Kouga had to push down the aching pain that was shooting at his heart. He saw her face go red, thinking of Inuyasha again, he could tell by just the way her scent spiked. He only smelt that kind of scent when she was with Inuyasha. God did it piss him off. What the fuck was so great about Inuyasha anyway? He was nothing but a foolish hayou.

 

“Thanks Kagome,” Kouga faked a small smile, “But anyway, I just don't know how to show Ayame that I truly love her, I'm not sure what girls really like and what they would like in a relationship, I've never been in one before...” Kouga bowed his head. “That is why I searched for you, to see you, but also to get your advice on this topic...” He traveled his eyes back up to hers, grabbing her hands once again, his eyes pleading, “Please help me Kagome, I want to mate with Ayame.”

 

A little taken back by the sudden outburst, Kagome blinked rapidly trying to make sure she heard him correctly. 'So he wants to mate Ayame huh...?' Kagome smirked, She always knew those two would come together eventually.

 

“I'd love to help you Kouga!” She gripped his hands tighter in hers, “I would like nothing more then to help you. I mean we are friends, are we not?” Kagome giggled.

 

'Hook, line and sinker.' Kouga thought mischievously, accepting Kagome's tight grip on his hands. He could feel his aura rising a bit as it slowly traveled over to her, his hands rubbed her hands slowly, beginning to rub his scent onto her hands... Kagome's aura was down, now his marking scent in his aura was easily able to get close to her. She must have let it down since she felt no fear.

 

“WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING HERE WOLF SHIT?!” a voice roared over to them, standing only a feet away, his silver hair blowing in the gentle breeze and his golden eyes were dark, sharply glaring at Kouga.

 

Kagome's body snapped around to the voice, her hands quickly leaving Kouga's and her aura strengthening again.

 

'Fucking dog shit.' Kouga cursed loudly, as his mating charm was interrupted, but at least he got a little bit of his mating claim on her and a little bit of Inuyasha's off. Standing up quickly, Kouga turned toward the enraged hayou, smirking cockily at him.

 

“Well, well, well, If it isn't mutt face. Long time no see, eh?”

 

Inuyasha snarled fiercely, flexing his claws and gritted his teeth. He could smell Kouga's excitement just a few miles from here, he was going to just ignore it, he and Kouga were nothing more then fighting companions... that was until he caught a very herbal, cherry blossom smell mixed in with him... He automatically saw red and ran toward where the smell lingered.

 

“Just what the hell do you think you doing?” Inuyasha snarled again, bearing his teeth at the wolf, stepping closer to him.

 

“Inuyasha, wait!” Kagome rushed from her seat and into Inuyasha's arms, blocking him from getting any closer to Kouga. She could hear Kouga growl, but she ignored it. Reaching up, Kagome placed her hands around Inuyasha's neck, and hugged him tightly to her, trying to get him to calm down, at least a little bit so she could explain. He immediately returned her affection, and wrapped his arms around her waist, his eyes never leaving Kougas', as the two demons sharply glared at one another.

 

“Answer my question you bastard.” Inuyasha growled again, demanding an answer in why he was with the girl in which he was in the process of claiming.

 

“Inuyasha please. He was just visiting me.” Kagome spoke softly, pushing against his chest and looking up at him, “He wasn't doing anything bad.”Kagome tried assuring him, rubbing her hand on his chest gently. It would always cool him down, when he would get in a fight with one of the villagers or a demon.

 

“Fuck that he wasn't doing anything bad.” Inuyasha locked eyes with the girl in his arms, tightening his grip around her, “If he wasn't doing anything bad, then why the hell is his scent spiking with arousal?” then it hit him, Looking down at the girl, he noticed her lack of clothing... “Just why in the hell are you wearing that?!” His voice boomed, quickly shrugging off his outer kimono top and throwing it over her, blocking the wolfs view of her.

 

“Inuyasha, calm down. I was just here taking a nice relaxing soak and then Kouga came because he wanted to talk. That's all.”

 

“Oh and you couldn't fucking change into regular clothing?” Inuyasha asked roughly, grabbing her shoulders and giving her the glare that he gave Kouga moments before.

 

“Excuse me?” Kagome asked in disbelief, was he accusing her of something? Sure sounded like it. “Listen here Inuyasha, It's not what it looks like alright? He surprised me, I thought it was some wild demon so I grabbed my bow and arrow and shot at him, but then Kouga came out and I lowered my guard, I forgot all about what I was wearing.” Her voice sounded irritated, but she tried her best to keep calm. They were doing so good with not fighting, Kagome didn't wanna start with this whole drama again.

 

“You 'forgot'? How the hell could u forget about something like that?!” Inuyasha asked angrily, bearing his teeth to her, making her eyes widened. “And you.” His eyes traveled to the wolf, who just stood back and watched the whole drama scene play out, Kouga couldn't help but to smirk. “Just what the hell are you grinning about?”

 

“Heh, I see dog-boy hasn't changed one bit.” Kouga bit out smugly.

 

“Fuck. You.” Inuyasha hissed.

 

“No thanks. I think I'll pass on that.” Kouga turned away from the couple, looking out in front of him, looking at nothing in particular. Sighing rather loudly, he glanced over his shoulder at Kagome and smiled when he saw her staring at him. “I'm sorry our visit was so short Kagome, next time I promise it will be longer. Thanks for everything today. I appreciate it. Your a real doll.” He winked her way, “Bye sweet cheeks.” and with that he bolted from view to the eastern mountains.

 

“You fucking coward get back here!” Inuyasha shouted after him, raising a fist in the air.

 

“Inuyasha, please, stop.”

 

“Hmm?” Looking down at the girl in his arms, he saw Kagome staring intensely at him with pleading eyes. “Just what the hell did Kouga mean by 'Thanks for everything today'? What exactly happened between you two?”

 

“Forget it.” She pushed away from him, going over to her pile of clothes, dressing herself back up.

 

“Oh so now you get dress when he leaves.” Inuyasha growled annoyed.

 

“Oh fuck you Inuyasha!” Kagome shouted at him, grabbing the rest of her stuff and then stomping her way to their hut. Inuyasha just keh'd, and followed after.

 

They left the river together, but neither of them happy.

 

Kagome knew...

She knew that This day would change everything that she and Inuyasha had.

 

**Flash Back End**

 

bursting into tears all over again, Kagome couldn't help but to sob. She thought she was doing such a good thing for Kouga, but if this whole thing was going to ruin what she had with Inuyasha then she didn't want to help Kouga. Inuyasha was everything to her, and what hurt her the most was that he didn't even trust her.

 

Kouga was a close friend to her, she shouldn't have to stop helping him just because Inuyasha got jealous so easily over him. She had an idea of why Inuyasha would be mad, it was because Kouga was at the age to mate, but Kagome knew for a fact that he didn't want her as a mate. He wanted Ayame. Ayame was his beloved, not her. Why didn't Inuyasha understand that?

 

Inuyasha could be so god damn stubborn at times, it frustrated her to no end. If Inuyasha didn't trust Kouga then fine, Kagome could care less, but Inuyasha could at least trust her. She wouldn't do anything with Kouga. If Kouga tried anything, Kagome would simply tell him to stop, Kouga would listen.

 

wiping up her tears with her long white kimono sleeve, she sniffled, she could feel that headache from earlier creeping back to her. It seemed like every night she was crying over him. Crying over the fact that he didn't trust her. If he didn't trust her then why did he let her live in his house? Why did he feed her? Take care of her when shes sick? What was with him? Just what was going through that mind of his? 'Urgg, fuck it, I don't care anymore.' Kagome sighed sadly, getting underneath her covers and resting her head on her pillow, closing her eyes, wishing for the darkness to take over so she could at least escape the real world for a little bit. Soon her wish came true and she was out like a light, off into a dark abyss.
