He was a boy she was a girl
Can I make it any more obvious

“Kikyo!” I watched across the quad as Inuyasha called out to the girl so like and yet unlike me.

A slight wetness reached my eyes as I saw them talking, I knew what they were saying, he was asking her to go out with him, to go to the up coming formal with him.

He was a punk, she did ballet, what more can I say
He wanted her, she'd never tell, secretly she wanted him as well

The two were so different, he was the schools bad boy, he smoked behind the sport shed every lunch, skipped classes all the time, and he skated everywhere. Kikyo on the other hand, she's perfect, perfect figure from ballet, grace, perfect complexion, perfect posture, popular.

But they say opposites attract, and they both wanted each other, it's supposed to be a secret that she likes him, but I hear things, I sit in the back of the classrooms and listen to what everyone says, I know a lot of things from doing that.

But all of her friends, stuck up their nose
And they had a problem with his baggy clothes

On the side of the quad, clustered around the seats which they had claimed as their own were her friends, the `popular' group, I could see them from my vantage point of the upstairs walkway, they were watching Kikyo, Yasha wouldn't be able to see them, he had his back turned to them, but Kikyo could see them perfectly over his shoulder. And she broke under their heated glares.

He was a skater boy
She said see you later boy
He wasn't good enough for her
She had a pretty face
But her head was up in space
She needed to come back down to earth

I watched the two part ways, Kikyo to her own group, and my blonde haired Inu to me-if only he truly were mine-he looked surprisingly upset for someone who had just gotten a date with the most popular girl in the school.

Skating straight into a hug he whispered just three words to me that explained it all. “She said no”

Five years from now
She sits at home
Feeding the baby she's all alone
She turns on TV
Guess who she sees
Skater boy rocking up MTV

Kikyo Picked up Yukio, her first born and only six months old, Hojo, the father, wasn't home, probably off with that backstabbing bitch she though, knowing of his mistress, a girl she once called her friend.

Cradling Yukio close to her body she sat down on the couch in their small apartment, turning the volume on low she turned on the TV and began flipping through the music channels, coming to MTV she almost dropped the remote, he was older, of coarse he was, five years had passed since she turned him down, but she'd never forget that hair, so light it was almost white, it was cut short now, short and spiky, but it was Inuyasha, there was no denying it, there on stage in front of millions, a tape of his last performance, and writing floating across the bottom of the screen announcing his one performance in their small town, his home town.

She calls up her friends
They already know
And they've all got tickets to see his show

Punching in the number of her friend Kikyo waited five rings before Ayame picked up. “Turn on MTV” Kikyo ordered through the phone, never having lost her attitude of leader.

“It already is, isn't he that guy you turned down back in senior year? We're going to see him tomorrow, you wanna come? Eri cancelled, family death or something, I dunno.”

“yeah, I guess I could come”

She tags along
Stands in the crowd
Looks up at the man that she turned down

Standing amongst the throng of people Kikyo looked up at the punk god on stage, Inuyasha Taisho, the guy she was head over heels for all through high school. I said no, why did I say no, I can't believe I said no to that.

He was a skater boy
She said see you later boy
He wasn't good enough for her
Now he's a superstar
Slamming on his guitar
Does your pretty face see what he's worth?

Seeing what he had become she cursed herself for not following her heart and instead allowing her friends to pressure her into saying no to the guy she could have loved.

The single tear went almost un-noticed by in the press of people

Sorry girl but you missed out
Well tough luck that boy's mine now
We are more than just good friends
This is how the story ends
Too bad that you couldn't see
See the man that boy could be
There is more than meets the eye
I see the soul that is inside

He's just a boy and I'm just a girl
Can I make it any more obvious?
We are in love, haven't you heard?
How we rock each other's world

I'm with the skater boy
I said see you later boy
I'll be back stage after the show
I'll be at the studio
Singing the song we wrote
About a girl you used to know

Standing in the wings I watched my Yasha as he performed for the moshing crowd, who loved every minute of it. As the lights flashed overhead I caught site of an almost forgotten face near the front of the crowd.

There was the midnight hair, clear skin and beautiful body, so similar to my own, but more, perfect.

Kikyo was here, the girl who broke his heart, just before the lights dimmed after the last song I saw one solitary tear escape the girls eyes.

After that, darkness except for the soft glow of the exit light behind me, and suddenly I was swept up in a sweaty hug.

“Kami!” I coughed out “You REEK, go shower, or you'll be sleeping on the couch”

With a quick, barely visible grin and a swift kiss to my cheek he replied “Can't, them lot want an encore, you gonna hang around and watch?”

“Nope, already late for recording that song we wrote.”

Inuyasha's grin dimmed for a mere second, “Kikyo.” He mumbled before cheering again almost instantly. “I'll pick you up after the show.”

As he turned to go back on stage I called over the crowd to his turned back “You'd better be clean” before turning to go out the backstage door smiling to myself.

Driving to the recording studio I thought about the day Kikyo said no, and praised the Kami's that she did, for it drove him right into my own arms, literally. I wondered if the girl knew that me and Inu we're more than the good friends we were in high school.

About to walk into the recording studio I heard a voice coming from directly above me, my manager was leaning out a window screaming. “KAGOME!!!! Do you have any idea how late you are! Get that ass in here NOW and start making music!”

I entered the glass doors, laughing until I almost cried.
