Deidre was stunned. “Wh-what? I mean, why? Why did you do this?” She was having a hard time digesting this.
“I wanted to.” Sessh said easily.
“But, duh, wow.” Deidre was speechless, a rare occurrence. “Thank you. I don't deserve this, but thank you.”
“That's just it. You do deserve this and much more. I want to show that to you. I want you to feel special.”
“But why? I don't understand.”
“I can see the sadness behind your eyes. You hide it pretty well, but you don't fool me. I see it and it breaks my heart.” Sessh caressed her hand as he said this. “And, I want to be the one who makes you feel that way.”
Tears were now welling up in Deidre's eyes. No one had ever done anything like this for her before.
“But, I mean, we just met. Literally.”
“I can sense things easier than most people. I'll leave it at that.”
“Whatever you say. Thank you again.”
“It was my pleasure. But I also had a business proposition for you.” He looked at her, seeing the questions in her eyes.
“A business proposition? What would that be?”
“I want to provide you with the clothes for your competition.” Sensing her imminent protest, Sessh cut her off. “Of course it won't be free. I do expect some publicity from this. I see it as a win-win situation, for both of us.”
Deidre nodded. It was a good idea. “Deal. Damn, you're a smart one.” She smiled as she said this.
“I am, aren't I?” Sessh let out a laugh, as their waiter walked up to the table. “May I take your order?”
45 minutes later, Sessh helped Deidre into her jacket. “Thank you for coming.”
“Hmph, did you think I would turn down a free meal? Not likely.” She broke out into a wide grin.
“Smart girl.” He couldn't help but return the smile. “Where did you park?”
“In the parking garage, half a block, that-a-way.”
“So did I. I'm glad you didn't see my car.”
“To be honest, I wasn't looking. I was wondering who the hell I was having lunch with.”
Sessh laughed. She was a keeper. He felt it with his entire being. But how would he explain that to her? How would she react when she found out the truth? “Let's go. You need to get back to work.”
“That's right. I do. Some of us can't afford to not work. I have an extremely successful business to run.”
“Of course, my lady. Shall we go?” He held out an arm to her. His breath hitched when she laced her own through it. Her gentle scent enveloped him and he fought the urge to claim her lips with his own. His mind started to run wild. Oh, the things he'd make her feel. He imagined her naked, glistening with sweat, writhing with passion beneath his touch. The little whimpers she'd make as he drove her to orgasm over and over again. He felt his length spring to life and started to think of more mundane things in order to calm himself.
Unbeknownst to Sessh, Deidre sensed the things he was thinking. Her proof was the stirring in his pants. She giggled to herself. He was easy to read himself. But then, she did have an unfair advantage, being quite perceptive herself. That's why she was worried. There was something that she just couldn't figure out about him. She shrugged it off internally. They reached the parking deck and Sessh accompanied her to her car. “I'll see you back at the mall.” She smiled as she climbed into her car. “Thank you once again for an unbelievable meal.” Her eyes widened as he bent down and pressed a kiss to her cheek.
He straightened back up and shut her car door for her. He watched as she pulled out and then headed to his own car. That had gone better than he could have hoped. She still seemed somewhat distant, though. He was going to figure out what happened to make her like that. He slid into the driver's side of his Lexus and drove back to the mall.
“So, who was it? Huh? Tell me!” That was Rob. He loved messing with his bosses, especially Deidre. She had taken a chance on him and helped him achieve his dreams of being a stylist, going as far as letting him stay at her house when his parents kicked him out when he came out to them. His teasing was his way of saying thanks.
“It was Antoine.” Antoine was Rob's boyfriend. “He said he couldn't live another day without me.” Deidre gave Rob a pitying glance. “Sorry.”
“Shut up! Why do you even try to be funny? It doesn't work, jerk!” Despite his words, Rob was laughing.
“Seriously, who was it?” Amy inquired.
Cathy just sat back and watched the scene from the receptionist desk. She didn't want to let on that she had found out beforehand.
“It was Sessh. You know, the guy who opened the new clothing shop.” Deidre casually said.
Amy and Rob's jaws dropped. They looked at each other and then both started to talk.
“Really? Good for you! He looks like a really good guy.” Amy squealed.
“Didja let him bone ya? I mean, I would!” That, of course, was Rob's two cents.
“No, I did not let him `bone me', as you so eloquently put it. Contrary to popular belief, I do have standards. Besides, I'm waiting for you to realize that you're in love with me, Rob.” Deidre shot a pointed glance at him.
Rob stuttered. He blushed, the recovered. “Honey, you ain't packing the equipment I need,”
“I know a store I can go to and pick up a suitable substitute.” Deidre winked.
“Oh, you are nasty. Bad, Deidre, bad!” Rob shook his finger at her.
Deidre laughed. “Ok, ok. I guess I'll give up that dream.” Deidre walked up to Cathy. “So, did I miss anything while I was out?”
“Yeah. Publisher's Clearing House came in. They said you won a million dollars, but since you weren't here, they were going to give it to someone else.”
“You are so funny. How do you do it? I can't stand it.” Deidre punched Cathy lightly on the arm.
“Seriously, though. We're not extremely busy today. Go on ahead home. We'll be fine.” Cathy smiled. “Besides, you seem a little distracted now.” Cathy knew just what Deidre was thinking. And it wasn't G-rated.
“Are you sure? I can stay.” Deidre started to protest. It was her salon, too and she didn't need to be sent home like she was a troublemaker in elementary school.
“I'm sure. You just owe me.”
“Alright. I'll go. I can see when I'm not wanted.” Deidre fake pouted and gathered up her stuff. She said her goodbyes and walked back out to her car. Climbing in, she threw her stuff into the backseat and then proceeded to freak out and giggle. “This is not good,” She thought. “I'm acting like a fool.” She didn't care, though.
Sessh walked back into his own store, a few moments after Deidre had left her own.
“So, how'd it go?” Angie asked.
“It went well. Extremely well, in fact.” Sessh smiled.
“Did you get her phone number?”
Sessh's face fell. “Ummm, no. I totally forgot.” Sessh couldn't believe that he forgot to get her phone number. She had that kind of effect on him. He lost his mind around her.
“It's okay. Just call down to the salon and ask her. Easy as pie.” Angie said, reassuringly.
“You are a smart one, Ang.” Sessh picked up the phone and dialed down to the salon.
“Thank you for calling Luna Salon and Day Spa. This is Rebekah. How may I assist you?”
“Hello. This is Sessh. May I speak to Deidre, please?”
“Oh, I'm sorry. She just left. Is there anything I can do for you?”
Sessh cussed to himself. “Would there be anyway you could give me her phone number? Home or cell would be fine.”
“I can't do that. I'm sorry.”
“Oh. Thanks,” Sessh started, but was cut off.
“I'm sure Cathy can give it to you. Hold please.” Sessh smiled.
“This is Cathy.”
“Hi, Cathy. It's Sessh.”
“I know. I hear you need a certain phone number.” Cathy said.
“Yeah, I do. I forgot to get it today.” Sessh grimaced to himself.
“Good thing I have it right here.” Cathy then proceeded to give Sessh both Deidre's home and cell phone numbers. “I have something I want to talk to you about real quick.”
“Go ahead.”
“Deidre's been hurt in the past. Bad. Past boyfriends have abused her mentally and physically. Her father abandoned her as a child. The one father figure she had growing up was killed. She has male abandonment issues. She tries to suck it up and be okay, but she's fragile. She'd never admit to it, but she is. And if you hurt her, I will rip you apart slowly.” Cathy smiled. “Just a friendly warning.”
“I would never hurt her of my own accord. I could tell there was something lurking beneath the surface. Thank you for telling me.” Sessh exhaled. So that was the problem. She had never been in a healthy relationship. From what he could tell, they had been beyond unhealthy. They had been dangerous. And she lost the only males that should've been there for her. One had left by choice, the other ripped away by tragedy. He could see why she would have some fears.
“No problem. I knew she would never tell you herself. What are friends for?”
“Thanks, Cathy.”
“No problem, sweetie. I'll see you later.”
“Bye.” Sessh hung up the phone. He wondered what he could do for her. And prayed that his secret wouldn't hurt her.
