“Inuyasha, what's wrong?”

“Fuck. You.”

They were on the same side of the volley ball net and Inuyasha looked normal but Kagome could easily sense that something was seriously wrong with him. He hadn't looked at her at all during the time period before PE, and had only glared when they did make eye contact during PE. When gym was finished Inuyasha stormed off to Mr. Ian's classroom. For the rest of the day Inuyasha deliberately ignored Kagome, who became more and more desperate for his attention.

While they were in the meeting room for Math time, and Miss. Rachel was engrossed in her book, Inuyasha made sure Kagome was looking at him then rolled up his sleeve. Kagome almost gasped.

Inuyasha's arm was mutilated. It looked like a checkerboard. He crossed the street and walked down the road. Not just a handful of superficial scratches like Kagome would do, but deep, clean cuts. You couldn't make cuts like that with a safety pin. That was razor blade work.

He rolled down the sleeve and wrote something on his piece of paper. Holding it up, Kagome had to fight back tears. The paper read, “You and Kouga. That's why.”

Kagome forced herself not to cry. This was all her fault. Why had she called Kouga? She didn't even really like him. He just liked her. Some how, Kagome would have to set this right.

Kagome's plan to set things right was foiled when Miss. Peterson made an announcement to the class. It would have been better to make in private, but Kagome supposed Miss. Peterson was going for the whole embarrassment thing.

“Kagome. I've notice you've been on edge today. And this is all because of Inuyasha.”

“And what would you know about it?” Kagome snapped back.

“I know enough to say you're completely obsessed with him.” She said aggressively. “So let's talk about this. Inuyasha, what do you have to say?”

“Nothing. I don't care what that wench does.” He rubbed his for-arm and looked right Kagome.

“Well I'm putting a gag order on you both. I'll be calling your parents and letting them know about this. You two aren't to call each other for the whole weekend.”

“Like I fucking care.” Inuyasha said his voice filled with hostility.
Kagome didn't talk to anyone else the rest of the school day. Even when she got on the bus and Miroku was badgering her, she said nothing.

The moment she got home she ran to her room. Inuyasha took his hurt out on himself, and that was Kagome's fault. At least that's what she thought. If she took time to think about it, she might realize that it wasn't her fault. When some one hurts themselves, it's only their own fault. Sure other people might contribute to the feelings that make them want to take it out on themselves, but the actual action of hurting oneself is in the hands of those who do it.

Since Kagome really didn't process it out, she went ahead and did exactly when Inuyasha wanted her to do. She got out her alcohol swabs and a safety pin. After her arm carried over fifty scratches, as deep as she could go, without scaring herself, she started cleaning up. She did bleed a lot, but she never went deep enough to cause any real damage.

Her family probably suspected something, but it was still chilly outside and wearing long sleeves wasn't a big deal. Kagome sometimes would let her arms heal up. She once went almost three months without scratching. Now she seemed to be doing it almost every day.

The real thing that usually set her off was when she accidentally told her mother that Inuyasha was in a gang, (at the time Kagome thought it was just a joke,) but her mother went and told her father and they explained to Kagome that Inuyasha was never to come to their house, and Kagome would never be allowed at his house.

Whenever they brought it up Kagome would scratch usually less than a dozen times, but this… this… whatever it was, brought up feelings that were too strong for Kagome to deal with.

After she was done Kagome wiped up the blood and threw the evidence away in a big black garbage bag in her room. Kagome didn't realize it, but she was crying. She had to make things right.

Fixing herself up in the mirror, Kagome walked out to the living room. Her mother was sitting there watching TV.

“Mom?” Kagome asked quietly.

“Yes?” Her mother glanced away form the TV just long enough to make eye contact with Kagome before turning back to the TV.

“Can I use the phone?”

“Absolutely not. I got a call from Miss. Peterson, and you aren't to be talking to that Inuyasha.” Mrs. Higurashi seemed almost to delight in informing Kagome of that news.

“I don't want to call Inuyasha. I want to call Kouga.” Kagome clenched her teeth to keep from saying when she really wanted to.

“Well I suppose that's alright. But I trust you that you won't call Inuyasha.” Her mother sounded skeptical.

“Okay.”

Kagome walked back to her room and dialed Kouga's number. It rang twice before a familiar voice picked up and answered, “Hey Kagome. You doing okay?”

“Not really Kouga. Did you see Inuyasha's arm? It looked like a fucking grid and I don't know what formula to use.” Kagome didn't realize how geeky this sounded, and Kouga was too nice to tell her.

“I know. He told me about it. He's seriously pissed at me. But if you want I could three way him. We could all talk about what's going on.”

“Like some counseling session.” Kagome said bitterly.

“So you want me to call him or what?”

“Yeah I think we better.”

“Hold on,” Kouga pushed some numbers on his end and Kagome herd the ringing.

“What the fuck do you want Kouga?” An irritated Inuyasha said.

“Hey man, Kagome and I are here if you want to talk about anything.” Kouga said calmly.

“So bitch, you're there?”

“Inuyasha, I just want to say sorry. I don't know what I was thinking.” Kagome bit her lip.

“I do. You were thinking you'd have a back-up boy, in case we didn't work out.”

“No. Inuyasha, I don't know how you feel about me. Some days you're an ass, and others you the most perfect guy in the world. I know Kouga likes me, but I don't know how you feel. I don't know you at all.”
“Kagome, I like you. A lot. But you fuck with me. Plus I don't want to betray me fiancé. She would be crushed if she knew I had some girl here, while I was with her.”

“Inuyasha,” Kouga interrupted, “You have to let Kagome do what she wants to do. I'm pretty sure she wants you. If you want, I'll step out of the picture. I'll pretend I never contacted Kagome. You two can be happy.”

“Really Kouga, you'd do that?” Kagome asked incredulously.

“Yeah. I like you Kagome and I want you to be happy. I also don't want to feel guilty about what Inuyasha does.”

“Alright I'll be with Kagome, as long as she promises never to go on Myspace.” Kagome could almost see him smile.

“Anyways, about that Valentines Dance, Inuyasha, you want to go?”
