The loneliness
was hardest at night,
when the stars blossomed
across the dark velvet sky,
and his memories blossomed
in the depths of his heart
and her absence echoed
to the corners of his soul.

Sometimes he would run,
but no matter how far he ran
it was never far enough
to bridge five hundred years.
