Prologue
InuYasha's POV
From the Journal of InuYasha Toga, June 9th 1937.
For years I always thought my father was dead, Dr Taró Sató, the exclaimed scientist that was exiled almost 30 years ago.
I've only heard about him in the newspapers and also a few stories as I worked through my journalism career. But it wasn't enough to me....
....until I received a letter that turned London Bridge upside down in front of my eyes.
'My son, at last I found you. I know this must be strange to you for receiving this letter, and you have every right to be angry at me. I've been working in exile on these small chains of islands to protect you and myself. Naraku, the man who saved my life, found you at my request. I'm growing old. I'm sure I have a couple of years ahead of me but I don't want to take any chances. I've written down the directions and flights to take you to my isle, which is where my lab is located. I want to look upon the face of my son before I go.
You're Father, Dr. Taro Sató’
I followed my father's instructions and arrived on a series of unknown islands over a thousand miles long, lost somewhere in the south Pacific, owned by wealthy American industrialist, Naraku.
...but when I arrived the building was empty...

InuYasha Toga, aged 31, approached the huge concrete lab, on the Isla Variatas, the chain of islands. His father’s lab was located on one of the frozen islands near the Arctic Circle of the south Pacific. His shoulder length black hair blew with the slight breeze in front of his face. He tucked it behind his ear in annoyance as he entered the building.
Dust. Broken glass. Smashed lights. Hell, even the desks have seen better days. The lab was totally trashed. The frosty air drafted the corridor. But InuYasha paid no heed to that. He continued to walk down the corridor, looking through a few of the broken capsules he saw only to find nothing. What was in them...he was sure he didn't want to know.
InuYasha stopped and turned around. He was sure he heard something...a light swoosh sound but then it was properly the wind. He backed away a bit until his back hit loose metal walls. A blue light was coming from the cracks. He moved them aside only to see something....he will be seeing again soon.
Inside a capsule in between the metal walls was a tiger...well at least he thought it was. It had body parts of an insect and head of a tiger: praying mantis he guessed. The animal chilled him to the core. Did father's work mean creating this?!
He didn't have time to think as a thumping sound came behind him. He turned around to find a wolf's head on a scorpion body growling at him. More of these things?
InuYasha turned to the first weapon he could find....a metal pole the size of a handbag. That was a mistake to pickup. The wolf barked and crept closer. InuYasha took that moment to throw the pole at the creatures head, but the wolf caught the pole in its jaws. Then suddenly the wolf raised its tail...
What could he do? Where can he escape? His answer was to his right. A large pole he could run up to and jump through the window (which by the way isn't broken).
The creature struck and InuYasha dodged...barely and ran up the pole and jumped out the window and into the snow. He took deep breathes, grateful to be alive and in one piece.
But that was short lived....
He sat up but cringed when he saw the wolf/scorpion creature towards his right a few metres away. There was pack of them this time though, about five of them. The creatures growled but backed away a little when a voice spoke.
‘Beautiful aren't there?'
InuYasha turned his head to face a tall man with long curly hair.
'They are products of the Sigma technology. A perfect combining of two separate animals, fused into a single organism. Far superior then you would find in nature.'
'Interesting...pets' InuYasha said as he stood.
'Look I'm obviously in the wrong place here. I'm looking for a man'
The long haired man nodded.
'Yes. You're searching for Dr. Taró Sató, your long last father'.
InuYasha frowned. How did he know?
'What's going on here? Who are you?' he demanded.
The man smiled and bowed.
'Naraku Fenir, at your service'
That name! InuYasha knew that name from somewhere! He thought for a bit until it hit him.
'Naraku Fenir? ....Aren't you a friend of my father? Where is he?'
But Naraku smiled.
'You should be more concerned about yourself lad, considering the...situation you are in'.
The wolves growled, almost as if they are about to pounce their prey.
'Look I have no trouble with you so...you can call of your half-breeds'
Naraku laughed a moment before speaking again.
'Half-breeds? Narrow minded. Sigma does a lot more then crossbreed! It combines fear, Mr Toga, it combines terrors, that you yourself well know soon enough'.
Naraku then turned towards his animals.
'Take him'
The wolves obeyed and approached InuYasha who was telling them to back off with 'Easy' or 'Steady now' but of course they didn't listen.
'But alive. He's the key to everything' Naraku whispered he last part to himself.
But suddenly a flying steam engine train on propeller's hovered over the shore and few metres from the scene. From the door at the back of the train was kicked open. A young woman stood there with her gun aiming.
'Duck!' She yelled.
InuYasha ducked as the woman fired at the creature that leapt towards him. The dart struck the wolf in the neck and the animal died instantly.
'Get on' She fired again as InuYasha ran towards the auto train. Another creature hit the dust.
'Get him! Don't let him escape!' Naraku yelled. The animals hurried after them. The woman fired one more time before reaching her hand towards InuYasha.
'Hurry! I'm out of darts'
InuYasha grabbed her hand and she pulled him up before going back inside at the front of the train and taking off the isle. Before they got away InuYasha heard Naraku yelling at them.
'Dr. Higurashi! I will capture Mr. Toga one way or another!'
