Title : Silence
Author: Kerichi
Genre: Romance/Angst (My buddy tells me I'm a character torturer... This is pretty... I don't know... graphic, sorta? Naraku is sick and twisted, dudes)
Summary Is it really possible to love if you're not truly alive? What is love, in the end? Juuroumaru finds the answers to his questions in one confusing human girl. Juu/Kag
A/N: I love Juuroumaru -Sigh!- I thought he needed a happy adventure. If you want to see an image of the bishonen, then check out my profile!
Disclaimer: I don't own Juuroumaru, and I'm not Rumiko Takahashi, which is a good thing, because otherwise I would fear for my life after Kagura's death. Beneath the Silence belongs to Angel Dust.

The room is silent as a grave... How did I come to be here? What.... am I? Who am I? Why... is it so quiet? It feels as though someone else should be here, with me......One thought rises above all the others.
If you do not have a soul... there is no line between life and death. You aren't truly alive... and you can't really die.
Peeling blue orbs open, I slowly raise my slime-covered body up and out of the pot I had been inside. I step out of the mess of gurgling black and drop to a crouch on the wooden panels. A rustle of expensive cloth reaches my ears, along with "Hello failures."
Cinnamon eyes glow maliciously in the shadows of the freezing room. Wrapping an arm around myself, I use the other one to balance my crouching stance. I shudder, feeling the fire of the stare raking over my nude form. I avert my cobalt eyes from his red gaze.
"Are you surprised to be here? You are mine; you follow my whims. I decide whether you live or die." The word 'Hell' comes to mind as I watch the floorboards.
"You belong to me. You are never free, not as long as I hold your heart." A figure steps into the flickering candlelight. Pale skin, wavy black hair, crimson eyes....... they form a mismatched picture, familiar, yet alien.
Another image, this one more concrete wafts into my mind's eye. A smaller face, almost childlike, except for the homicidal expression. Lavender hair like the wet strands clinging my own face, black eyes the color of the room around me, a small, tube-like body...
'Kageroumaru?' I ask in my thoughts to the emptiness, as though he should read my mind and respond with a tired and cranky, "Shut up, you ass."
"Do you," The effeminate man pauses. He gestures to the woman sitting behind him. She resembles him in many ways, with the same blood colored eyes, pale skin and dark hair. "Hate me as Kagura here does?" The woman's.... Kagura's stance becomes rigid.
"Do you really hate your own father?" the bastard asks mockingly, looking at her. He turns is attention back to me. "Juuroumaru." He coos in a soft tone. I feel myself stiffen and I pull a few stringy pieces of alabaster goop out of my lavender hair.
That sets of a bell in my head... My name... That's my name? I can't really say... Shouldn't that bother me?
I feel... terrified. The still air seems to crowd about me like ants to a dead preying mantis.... a preying mantis...'Kageroumaru?' I try again. Where is he?
Cruel white hands grab my chin and through the contact, memories attack ruthlessly as I remember my last life... and my last death. ...How I depended on the insect-like brother...
I can't feel his kehai... why is it so soundless? Kageroumaru?
The quiet air answers nothing. I open my mouth to... to what? Only a rasping sound comes out. I can't even ask my tormentor where my brother is...
"You haven't tried to kill me yet..." the man's... Naraku's lips curve in a sinister way. "How interesting..."
"And so... you are born." Naraku's dark voice commented, as Kageroumaru first entered my conscious.
'Who is this asshole? Who the heck does he think he is?' The words echoed wildly in the silence. 'Oh, an empty minded brute, eh? I can work with that... Brother, we will get along great.'The parasite was my shadow, and he would be the brain of the two of us. I would follow him quietly, never questioning, obeying his every whim. We were two parts of the same.
The worm sliced off our creator's head. A human gasp. "S-Sire...?!" I could smell their scent, full of shock and horror.
"Sire!" they repeated. "N-no!" the headless body flopped to the floor.
"Someone ... help!" one of the guards screamed. One clean slice later, Kageroumaru was pulling the decapitated bodies into the pot I was inside.
'Eat,' was his command. His voice was authoritative, strong, superior... I did as I was told, not enjoying it, not hating it...and he devoured the human flesh as well, favoring the liver.
Strange pain suddenly shot through his body. Kageroumaru screamed in my head. I wanted to howl at the agony I felt for him, but he kept me silent.
"Is it painful?" our creator asked sarcastically. "What I just squeezed is your heart."
I closed my eyes trying to block out the curse words my counterpart spilled into my head.
"You kill anything that moves... " The demonic creature squeezed again for emphasis. "... And I dovalue that quality in you... but the next time you disrespect me... I will crushyour heart."
One heart. Our heart. I shared a heart with him... We were one.
"Stand up." Naraku's sharp order breaks through my flashback. I lift myself from the crouch in a wobbly fashion. My knees quiver, my thighs tremble and I collapse. My "father" lifts a sardonic brow. "You cannot...function without Kageroumaru, can you?"
So he wasn't created with me again... stinging liquid starts to spill from my eyes. What is... wrong with me? I attempt to rise again, but I fall to all fours, thick strands of lavender hair falling in my face. Kagura looks at me with pity-filled red eyes, but does nothing to draw attention to herself.
Naraku, grabbing my chin for the second time, hoists me up. Fastening a collar around my neck, he gives the chain to Kagura. The glaring female holds it limply as the dark-haired demon wraps a thin hand around my wrist. "Clean yourselves, and return before twilight." Grabbing one cuff from the floor I hadn't noticed, Naraku snaps the manacle to my left wrist, looping the chain around my back to let it dangle.
The dark demon motions towards the screen, and a few servants come out, their eyes calmly blank. In their arms are bundles of familiar pale and dark green cloths.
"I guess you'll just have to ...learn." His words speak of dark promises. Naraku drags my stumbling body across the wooden floor with Kagura and the misty-eyed servants following behind. Across the terrace and through the courtyard, our foolish parade marches. Weaving through he trees, the black-haired demon stops our miserable procession at a hot spring.
"You are dismissed." With a final sneer, the evil hanyou shoves me into the scalding liquid.
Ah, dinnertime, my favorite time of the day, where we aren't hunting Shikon no kakera and are able to rest and relax....
"Ramen now!" the arrogant hanyou barks, shoving an empty plastic bowl in my face.
I sigh in frustration and grind out for the third time, "You. Ate. It. All. All we have is leek soup." I pour some of the broth into the silver-haired boy's dish, ignoring his battle cry of "I hate leeks!"
"Can I have some more?" the Shippou requests softly, his cup under his chin as he looks up at me. His bright green eyes are wide and his lower lip trembles. He is socute!!
"Sure!" I take the paper cup from the redhead and give him a nice big helping.
"Kagome-sama, might I have some of your delicious food as well?" Miroku asks charmingly from his position by the fire.
Smiling sweetly, I tell him in a syrup-covered tone, "Okay, Miroku-sama! Hold out your bowl for me!"
He lifts his eyebrows, and pus out his dish. I sit beside him, with the kawaii kitsune mimicking my action. Balancing the steaming pot in my oven-mitts, I watch those infamous "wandering hands" of his, and dole out some soup into the bowls. Shippou immediately starts to scarf down the blistering hot liquid as if it doesn't scald his tongue. Maybe it doesn't, I mean.... he can conjure up his own brand of fire...
After a few tender slurps, the houshi realizes what I meant. The perverted monk lays a hand on his heart and assumes an air of despair. "Kagome-sama, do you really not trust me so?"
His expression is so tragic I have to giggle out, "Yes." I stand up quickly, facing him so he'd have to reach around me to get a grope. Not that I thought he would... but you can't be too careful around the (un-) affectionately named 'Hentai Houshi'.
The pervert grins amiably, and stands up also. "I will go join Lady Sango then." he turns to the instantly suspicious dark-haired woman resting beside her nekomata. Lips curving at the man's antics, I sit down where the purple-eyed perv had been.
I let the sound of the campsite fill my mind; happy slurps of two hungry "children", an angry shriek of an enragedTaijiya, and the reassuring 'thwack!' of hard boomerang meeting hard head...
Everything is normal, as if nothing has happened at all....
"Gugugu!" The evil ogre laughed at Inuyasha as he swung the mighty Tetsusaiga at him. "Your blade was originally a dog's fang...." The mammoth detachment caught the descending sword in his powerful jaws. With a "Grrrn" sound he broke it in half.
Miroku gasped as I cried, "The Tetsusaiga's..." I couldn't finish the sentence.
Inuyasha's bright golden eyes were wide as pieces of his father's fang flew through the air around him.
"Gugugu..." Goshinki chuckled maliciously and crowed, "It seems an ogre's fang is stronger!"
The silver-haired hanyou stood there loosely as the mind reading demon charged and sliced him, propelling him backwards.
"Inuyasha!" the scream ripped through my throat as he landed in the dirt. He laid still.
"Gu gu gu! Right now, your mind is a total blank. Have you lost all hope without your sword? Are you finished?" the golden-eyed boy remained limp.
I rushed to him, crying "Inuyasha!"
Miroku ran forward as well, placing an arm in front of me. "Stand back, Kagome-sama!" he commanded.
Goshinki lunged at us, swiping at Miroku. I called his name as he fell as well to Naraku's third. "Oh ho, houshi..." he cackled, the saimyoushou gathering around him. "You think of sucking me into your Kazaana, even if the Saimyoushous' poison costs you your life..." Sango and Shippou's called to the unconscious monk as the beast grinned sadistically. "Don't be in such a rush to die... " He turned to me. "Because, in any case, starting now, I am going to eat you cretins one by one... " He glared. Gugugu... Kagome... You first."
'INUYASHA!' I thought franticly, frozen in fear.
Goshinki smirked. "You fool... Inuyasha is already..."
Suddenly from behind Inuyasha struck, his long hair billowing. "What's the matter, Goshinki..." His hair settled and his face was revealed. Eyes almost completely red except for teal pupils, a stripe for each cheek, a longer-than normal fang overlapping his lip.... "I thought you anticipate my every move!" he sneered nastily.
Inuyasha's demon blood had taken over.
I shiver at the memory. I wish he wouldn't act like one look in my eyes and everything is fixed perfectly. Things have changed... I know I'm not the only one who's noticed. I'm not going to confront Inuyasha about it though. There are bigger things to worry about.
"Kagome?" Shippou's tiny voice snaps me out of my reverie. Oh, look at that.... In my daze, I had dumped the contents of the pot onto the campfire. Sango is looking at me weirdly and Inuyasha's face is turning red like a tomato.
"Eh heh heh... you didn't want any more of that, did you Inuyasha?" I question in a false voice. I ignore the obscenities spewing from the vulgar man's mouth, focusing instead on Miroku lying on the dirt with a bright pink handprint on his cheek and several smoking lumps.
The clever monk, as if sensing the trail of my gaze, recovers consciousness. Brilliant, unnaturally colored eyes twinkle mischievously as he picks himself up. Sango's burning glare makes him scoot forward a few inches. "I believe the next village is not far. We may get there before tomorrow night." Miroku informs us, assuming a serene expression. It's ruined by the fading mark on his face.
Shippou and I cheer. "A bed to sleep on, a roof over our heads- hurray!" I pick up the fluffy-tailed fox and dance around the fireplace.
Inuyasha's eyes crinkle as he snorts at our 'happy dance'. "Feh. If you people weren't so weak, we could march through the night and get there tomorrow morning- then you could have all day to 'rest' while we investigate rumors!"
I narrow my eyes. "Well, Sor-ry we all aren't as strong, powerful and resilient as you!"
The arrogant dog-eared man has the gall to puff out his chest and agree with me, so I give him a good, "sit".
A/N: I used a famous line from a favorite anime of mine- do you know which line and what anime? Iitalicized and bolded it.
Juuroumaru can't talk, and he doesn't stand up straight. Look through the manga and you will see in every panel how he's crouching or lunging. He may appear more human in appearance than Inuyasha, but in mannerisms, you see who thereal animal is. He doesn't use weapons. He attacks more with his fangs than other humanoid-demons. He has no real fighting style, but he is on par with Sesshoumaru in my opinion.
And yes, I am putting SOME of the blame on Kageroumaru. I'm gonna say that Juuroumaru follows orders to kill people, and never formed concrete opinions about them. Don't get me wrong- I do like the adorable little bug (I just wanna pinch his flesh-eating cheeks!). And don't think I'll try and squish Juuroumaru's brutality, either. He's the beast man, and he's disoriented right now!
I tried to show the two different personalities/stories in this chapter. Juuroumaru with a darker tale, Kagome with light-hearted humor/drama (Geh!). I'm not emotionally stable enough to write a completely dark fic, so expect some humor. I am trying to keep with Takahashi-sama's work, but it's not quite possible in any non-I/K story. Any compliments will be accepted graciously :) and flames, well, there's no point in giving a person you don't like more stats.
