Inuyasha felt the bone breaking. He felt the hot metal go through his body. He fell to a knee as Koga fell to the ground. A single bullet to the neck area. Inuyasha felt the blood coming from him. Damn. It hit an artery. I came so close… now I'll lose.

The red tint in his eyes began to fade. `I don't care much for love. You know that.' The demon voice in his head said. Though the human didn't believe it as much.

Kagome caught him as he fell. Kneeling with his head in her lap. A hand held down on the bullet wound as Kagome stroked a fine silver hair from his face.

"Oh, god." She cried. "You came back for me."

"Of course I would. I told you I would never let anything happen to you."

Inuyasha let a cough out. It was more of a hacking sound.

"You're severely wounded." She said.

"Not severely." Inuyasha corrected, as much as he hated to admit it. "Fatally. It hit an artery. It's only a matter of time." He said, looking at the blood as it seeped through his hands.

"No." Kagome whispered. She could feel him weaken… but not physically… in her arms. But in her soul. It became more apparent to her. Could it be?

"No. You promised you would never leave." She said. Holding him tighter this time. A hand reaching for his ear. Letting her hand stroke it, for what she knew would be, the final time.

"I'm not leaving." He sighed into her touch. "I'm just becoming invisible. I'll still be looking out for you."

"You can't die." Kagome said. Feeling him becoming even weaker. She felt his eyes close. She saw the final rise and fall of his chest. She felt his heart cease to beat.

She held him like that for another moment. She felt… different, about herself.

She felt… powerful. "Goodbye, Inuyasha." She whispered. She held him close, feeling the warmth begin to drain from him.

It's been a long, long time since I looked into the mirror

Kagome cried still holding him tight. She just stayed there. A passed Inu-hanyou in her arms. Letting the tears fall onto his face.

You know that silence is loud when all you hear is your heart
And I wanted so badly just to be a part of something strong and true
But I was scared and left it all behind

Kagome felt something happening. A warmth and breath. A heart beat, a whimper. The wounds healed. The blood disappeared. He seemed to shiver into her. Snuggling closer… he was moving… He was moving! Kagome gasped as she saw his eyelids flutter. They didn't open but she swore they moved.

The heat was returning to his normal body temperature.

What is happening? He was dead! I'm sure of it… he died in my arms…

Inuyasha shifted. He actually shifted!

Kagome couldn't take it anymore. She held him closer this time. Still crying.

It's too good to be true.

She felt him return the embrace, soft words drifted to her ears.

"How can I leave if you're still here?"

Kagome gasped. "Inuyasha… you're alive!?"

She herd a chuckle come from deep within his chest.

"Of course." He pulled back. Kagome loved to see the golden eyes once again. "Let's get out of here." He said, letting his ear twitch. Kagome went for it, he grabbed her hand. "Not now. Cops are coming, let's go." He grabbed her. "Jump on." He said, letting her got on his back as he busted through the roof exit, jumping building to building for a few minutes till he thought it was safe to stop.

He let her down and turned around quickly, hugging her. She returned it, letting a untended to hand waver up to the ears. "God I've missed you."

"I've only been gone for thirty seconds." He said, a sudden purr coming from him.

"Thirty seconds too long. Thirty seconds too long." Kagome sighed.

He let them stay like that for a few more moments before breaking away.

"Come on. Why don't we find a nice private place and celebrate getting you back." Inuyasha said, giving her a suggestive look. Kagome giggled.

"Puppy want to play?" She giggled, getting on his back. Inuyasha rolled his eyes.

"Yes, but puppy has a feeling the kitty wants to too."

Kagome giggled again. "You know me too well… way too well."
