InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Silent Protector ❯ Carved in Wood ( Chapter 1 )
Kagome never was well liked among the kids at school. They picked on her, called her names, and every now and then, touched her. Sometimes as a hit, others as a grope. One time, they took all her books and threw them into the school's fountain. They wrote things on her locker, even broke into her car.
Kagome's home life was only slightly better. Her mother never really was around so she took care of Souta, he younger brother.
But Sango had two people to help keep her sane. Her only two friends. Sango, a girl about her age who had a habit of studying the past, especially demons. And Miroku, he came from a long line of Monks but he had a… wondering hand.
But they couldn't always be around, and that is when the bullies took that time to attack.
And today - was like any other. Sango and Miroku weren't around, Kagome dealt with people yelling `bitch' and `slut' at her.
It was getting to the point where she was beginning to consider… possibilities that most troubled teens considered. It wasn't anything new, though she didn't want to consider them at all.
But now Kagome was standing at her car, trying to get her car keys from her bag when a hand touched her shoulder. "Miroku, not now." She hissed. But instead of the hand removing itself. It pushed her to the car and turned her around. It was another student that held her in his grasp. His other hand going over her mouth.
"You're such a slut, what's your price?" He asked, a smirk on his face. Kagome bit down on his hand and took off running in the empty parking lot. The boy soon caught her. "Where the fuck do you think your going?! You bit my hand you bitch, you'll pay!"
He pinned her to the ground and raised his fist. A sudden flash of silver and red and the boy was on the ground holding his arm. Kagome took her chance to run, getting into the car and driving home.
Kagome got up to her room and shut the door.
What was that? It was fast… but it looked human… a little. I must be seeing things.
She convinced herself that it was nothing just in time to get back in the car to go and pick up Souta.
===
Souta's school day was only slightly better. He was picked on too, but not to the full extent Kagome dealt with.
"Souta, over here!" Kagome called as her brother got out of school. She took his bag and tossed it in back. "How was your day?" She asked as they got into her car.
"It was good. What are we going to do for dinner, sis? I don't think mom has gone shopping lately."
Kagome thought for a moment… "Want to go to Wendy's?"
=====
Kagome sat in the grass while her brother went back inside to use the bathroom. She unwrapped the tin on her sandwich and began to eat, taking out a book to study from which she soon found impossible.
"What was that today? I wish I knew so I could thank it."
Suddenly Kagome herd someone coming up behind her. She looked and saw that same boy from the lot.
"What the fuck was that bitch?! What did you do to me? One of your magic miko spells?!"
Kagome stood up and took a step back as the boy lunged at her. He grabbed her wrist just as Souta came out. Kagome saw him and yelled.
"Souta tell them to call the police!"
The boy was now dragging a struggling Kagome over to his car. Just as he touched the handle Kagome caught a glimpse of red out of the corner of her eye.
A moment later a yell was herd. It sounded like `Iron Reaper' but she wasn't sure. She was sure that yet again the boy was on the ground, holding his arm again.
Kagome herd the sirens coming.
=================
Kagome layed on her bed later that night, wondering what had happened over the past four hours. Who is he? And why does he follow me? Now that I'm complaining or anything, it's nice to have someone who jumps out of nowhere to protect you before disappearing again. But still… I wish I knew.
Kagome rolled over just in time to see a flash of silver go out her window. She got up and looked out. Nothing.
"Hello? Anyone out there?"
She put her hand on the windowsill and felt something different about it. She looked down and saw the name Inuyasha carved in it.
Where did that come from? It sounds familiar… wait… Sango!
Kagome quickly grabbed her cell phone and called Sango.
"Kagome do you know what time it is?"
"Sango… it is eight thirty."
"Whatever, what's up?"
"Does the name Inuyasha ring a bell?"
Kagome could picture Sango's eyes going wide by the sound of her voice.
"Where did you get that name?"
"It's engraved in my windowsill."
"I'm coming right over."
=============================
Kagome opened the front door and saw Sango standing there, Miroku right behind her.
=
"So let me get this strait. You were attacked twice today… and both times you saw red and silver. The second time you herd `Iron Reaper' and then in your room you saw a flash of silver followed by the name in the wood… correct?" Sango asked. Looking at the engraving as Miroku typed away at Kagome's computer.
"Yes. Down to the `d' in wood. Does it mean something?"
"Got it!" Miroku said. Getting up and letting Kagome see the picture of a young boy… with fangs, dog ears, and claws. He was dressed in a traditional red Kimono and had a sword that the text next to it called a Tetsusaiga.
"That is Inuyasha. A hanyou from a long time ago. The feudal era of Japan. He was considered the strongest hanyou, if not demon, of that time."
Kagome had to admit. He was kind of cute.
Sango continued. "It's been said that it is a great blessing to be guarded by him. And a great curse to be hunted."
"Guarded… he's guarding me? But why?" Kagome said, more to herself than Sango. Sango just shrugged. "Beats me. If you ever get a chance, ask him." She said, clearly joking.
=============
Kagome layed still in bed. Her window left open to allow the summer breeze into her room. Suddenly, she felt like someone else was with her. She said the first thing that came to mind.
"I know it's you Inuyasha."
"So you know my name."
"It wasn't hard to figure out. After you carved it into my windowsill and all." She was about to turn around when he stopped her.
"Don't turn around. I don't want you to see me."
"Why not?"
"Because… look I have my reasons. I'm just checking up on you. I'll leave now."
"Wait. Why are you guarding me? Why protect me? Aren't there others worse off?"
She herd a sigh. "Maybe. Maybe not. But I have my reasons. Maybe one day you will figure them out."
She herd him jump out her window. She turned to see her curtains flow in the breeze. She didn't know that he was sitting the in three outside the window. She just laid in bed.
"Thanks Inuyasha." She whispered.
Out in the tree Inuyasha herd her. "I'll protect you form those people. You won't suffer like I did." He whispered to himself. Dangling his leg over a branch he slowly drifted off, keeping his ears ready for any sound that didn't belong.
No one was going to hurt her anymore. Not if he could help it.
