InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Silent Protector ❯ To Owe Money ( Chapter 3 )
Kagome stared at her ceiling. It's been two days and people seem to have backed off with her. Either because they know that if they hurt her they will regret it, or the just got board. However, that meant that she now saw less and less of Inuyasha. Which she had to admit, she didn't like.
But a sudden crash downstairs made her mind jump a little. Her mother's voice began to plea.
"Please, I swear I'll have your money! I need more time!" Her voice echoed through the door.
Kagome got out of bed and stopped at the top of the stairs, listening to the conversation below.
"No more time! Pay now!"
"I don't have it now!"
"Then we have no choice." Kagome herd a clicking sound.
"No, please! I have kids! Don't do this!"
"You should of thought of that beforehand." Kagome instantly understood what was going on.
She knew that if anything, her mother was a lost cause. She needed to get Souta.
"Souta wake up." She pushed her brother slightly.
"Kagome?" He said, groggily. Kagome put a hand to his lips. "Quiet!" She hissed.
"Where if your book bag?"
Kagome found it in the corner and packed it with some clothes. Souta got out of bed and looked at her questioningly. "Kagome, what are you doing?"
"Listen, there are some very bad men downstairs. We need to get to my room and get out the window. I know people who can help us. But we need to get out."
"But mom." Souta sounded like he was about to cry.
"We can't save her, Souta. I'm sorry."
"Kagome we can't leave her here!"
"If we want to live, we have to."
She led Souta to her room why her mother still plead for her life downstairs. Kagome tossed some random things into her bag. Before tossing the roll-up ladder out her window. They ran from the house, as soon as they hit the drive way they herd a scream followed by a gun shot.
If it wasn't for the giant amount of danger Kagome would of collapsed right then and there. But she had Souta and she needed to get out of there.
But what if they come after us? Where would we stay then? I wouldn't be able to stay with Sango or Miroku… it would put their family's in danger. And I don't have enough money to get a place of our own.
She and Souta sat at an outdoor patio. The place was still open and the waitress gave them weird looks for wearing pajamas. But when Kagome pulled out a wallet and thumbed through a fifty, three twenties, and about thirty tens, fives, and ones, the waitress got that smile back in the hopes of a big tip.
Of only she knew.
"So now what do we do Kagome? We have no house, no parents, and no friends."
"I have two but… I don't want them in danger because of me."
"Great so now we are bums."
Kagome waved her finger in the air.
"The correct term is homeless person."
"And next year it will be hygiene impaired professional squeegee technician. That doesn't change our situation!"
Kagome sighed and twirled the spoon around in her cup.
"I wish Inuyasha was here."
Souta looked at her funny. "And who is that? Your boyfriend."
"No. Someone who looks out for me when I'm in trouble… like now."
The quietly to herself. "Where are you Inuyasha."
"Right behind you." A voice said. Kagome turned but only saw a man with black hair facing the other way.
"Where behind me?" Kagome said. Looking all over for the hanyou.
The black haired man turned around. "Right here."
Kagome's eyes narrowed. "You are not Inuyasha. You look nothing like him…"
Inuyasha sighed. "Silver hair, little dog ears, high as me, long claws, and has a little runt."
Kagome blinked. "How did you know?"
"You really are dense. It's me Kagome! Do you think I go out in public with my demonic powers for everyone to see?"
Kagome sighed. "I guess you're right."
Inuyasha let his eyes roam over her. "Judging by how you're dressed. I say you left the house in a hurry. Something wrong?"
"I'd rather not talk about it right now." Kagome said, putting some money in the little black book on the table. "Come on Souta. Let's find a hotel."
"Need a place to stay?" Inuyasha asked. Kagome looked at him for a moment.
"Yes… why?"
"I have a guest room and I'm sure my roommate would just love your little brother."
Kagome raised a brow. "Right… and how old is this roommate?"
"Seven going on eight. Hyper enough to prove it too."
Kagome sighed. I guess it couldn't be too bad. "Ok. But only until I can get a job to support a place to live in."
"Or we could divide my rent up in three and you could just live with us."
"We'll talk on that later. Right now I need to get him to bed."
"Follow me." Inuyasha said. Leading Kagome to an alleyway before changing back to a hanyou. He got her up onto his back as she held to Souta as they jumped through building to get to his house.
======================
Kagome sat on the soft bed. Thinking over the days events.
I can't go back. Mom is… I'm so scared.
She began to quietly sob. Just then there was a knock on the door and Inuyasha came in, sitting next to her on the bed. "What's wrong?"
"It's just…" Kagome took a deep breath. "Ok. My mom owned to money to some people. Very bad people. And tonight she was suppose to pay them… but she didn't have enough and they came to the house and… and…" Kagome didn't finish the sentence. Inuyasha sensing the girl's enviable breakdown, put his arm around her.
"Alright. Alright. I'm right here. You're safe now. You and Souta."
"They killed my mother… they would of come after us… they will come after us!"
Inuyasha held her close. He wasn't use to being this close to a girl before, he had trouble fighting over his feelings for her. No matter how much he denies them he can't stop them.
I'll take things little by little. First thing is first. I need to watch for these men. We'll take it from there depending on their actions.
============
Kagome woke up the next day feeling safe and warmer than usual. She opened her eyes and realized after the haze wore off that she was in Inuyasha's arms. And the ears were up for grabs.
She smiled when she felt the rumble of a soft purring noise.
"What do you think you are doing?" Inuyasha asked. Starting Kagome who had thought he was asleep.
"Weren't you asleep a moment ago?"
"Nope. I've been awake for about an hour."
"Why didn't you wake me? I have school you know."
"On a Sunday? I don't think so. Besides you are not going back. And neither is Souta."
"Inuyasha! We have to go! How am I going to get a job without a high school degree?!"
Inuyasha thought for a moment. "Ok. First we lay low for a day. Make sure that they won't come after you. Then you can go back and I'll keep a close watch on you."
"Won't people get suspicious?"
"They would get more suspicious after hearing about your mother's death. No get dressed, Sango and Miroku are coming."
"Since when have you known them?"
"About… I don't know… seven years maybe."
Kagome sighed and snuggled closer. "It's a Sunday. And knowing Sango they won't be here until later. I don't feel like getting up."
Inuyasha had lost the battle. "Ok. Ok. We'll relax a little while longer." He said, keeping his arms around her as she feel back asleep.
