InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Simple Complexity ❯ Behind our Lies ( Chapter 2 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Alright, hi guys! Another chapter. I've got quite a bit of visits, but I'd like more feedback. There was a lot of confusion with chapter one and I accidentally submitted chapter one and two as one chapter. I fixed it, but if you read chapter 2 already, here it is w/no typos ^^. BTW: Hanyou means half demon and yen is basically the equivalent of cents sort of like 100 yen = dollar. You may need that info to better understand the following chapter. And also I'd like to apologize for the inconvenience last chapter. There was some missing text in the first chapter at one point, I fixed it, but those of you that were left confused, sorry! And please R & R! ^^
The twittering of birds slowly faded into the blackness around her, which became lighter and lighter and she realized her eyes lids were opening. Tediously she sat up and felt the blankets, the portion that touched her was damp. Blinking again she tried to remember if what had happened had actually occurred, it was a dream wasn't it? She had been taking a shower and someone had come, how she had imagined the man whom she was chatting with, and joined her...
"Maybe the shower is better than the beach..." she whispered running her fingers through her hair. She started at the sound of voices in the kitchen.
"She's still asleep, she never sleeps in, was she up late?"
"I don't know; I'm a little worried about the girl. She still isn't married, she lives all alone, that MUST get awful depressing." Kagome growled at this female voice. Why were they so early? They weren't supposed to come back from their trip in a few days...
"Don't be worried, she's on her way to getting a very good job, she's working and she's an intelligent and pretty girl. My sister knows what she's doing..."
"I hope so..."
"I know so."
"Glad to hear it, now can you get me a cup of coffee, I have a head ache. And by the way I can handle two toddlers. You two can go back on your trip please, I'm an adult, I can do this," Kagome said loudly as she looked at her brother and her sister in law through the small gap between the partially opened door and the wall. The two turned and saw her in a surprised manner.
"Alright we never thought you couldn't–" her sister in law began.
"Yes you did," Kagome cut in as her feet met the floor and she began walking toward them. "Or else you wouldn't have come." Sota sighed and ruffed the newspaper in his hands.
"I'm sorry Kagome, but I was worried that–"
"I know but Sota's right, I know what I'm doing, I can handle this," she assured them, as she took a cup of coffee from Sota's wife. Kagome looked at them both directly in the eyes and the two exchanged glances. Sota finally sighed again, stood up and began to put on his jacket. His wife reached out toward him, clutching her mug in her other hand.
"Honey–"
"No Hitomi, Kagome is right and I trust her," Sota said slowly looking at his wife with a firm expression. A clang sounded as she placed her own coffee mug on the counter and put on her leather jacket.
"Well alright," Hitomi said reluctantly as she looked to Kagome, "but be careful. " Kagome rolled her eyes. She couldn't help it. Sota's wife could be such an annoying twit it wasn't even funny, she didn't exactly see what her brother saw in Hitomi, but being a supportive sister and supposing whatever made him happy was his business, Kagome supposed it was good. Waving as long as the couple was within eyeshot, the instant she was sure they could no longer see her and were driving off in their car she shot off back to the computer.
So perhaps she was very idiotic, perhaps she was just fooling herself with wishful thinking even considering he could be on the chat.
Maybe she was far, FAR too into this.
Either way she couldn't help herself, and the assurance went through her head over and over and over, it just wasn't very probable. He wouldn’t be there. Why would he? He had a job; he hated it in that mansion, why would he be there?
That was assuming he was who he said he was.
Regardless of these thoughts she soon loaded the chat site and clicked onto the very chat she had been messaging on. As the page began to load she felt her heart thumping in her chest, she began to feel her thoughts racing to comprehend, just what had happened to her? He's not there anyway...why am I doing this? There's no way... But when her eyes flew to the list of chat ID's she saw the name clearly, "ramenlover9" and she squeaked as she pounded the table with both hands.
"Oh my god..." she murmured, her excited expression vanishing. She sat staring in awe at herself, astounded with her idiocy, "what the HELL is the MATTER with me..." She suddenly heard something and looked around her, screaming when she saw both her niece and nephew.
"Aunt Kagome?" they both said in confusion at once. At that moment the door bell rung and she minimized the chat and flew to the door as fast as her feet could carry her.
"Hello, I got a call from Hitomi, she arranged for me to take the kids..." said a familiar blonde haired woman who was holding hands with a four year old boy. Kagome growled at the thought Sota's wife had STILL not trusted her, but as she recognized the woman from the parent teacher conference she had went to in Sota's place and she desperately wanted to be alone, she quickly informed the children of this development. The two quickly dashed out the door, shouting joyously and Kagome closed it without a second thought, running much like they had, only for the computer seat.
ramenlover9: Thought you weren't coming back to this chat again.
wind04; he scared u away? wut a surprise
bored987: No, he's actually quite nice.
wind04: lol thats a laugh
bored987: So, what happened to your brother?
ramenlover9: He was just picking up some files and wondering how I liked the place, I said I hated it, he just left after that
wind04: so THATS all u talkd about how boring...
bored987: that's not ALL we talked about at all
ramenlover9: you don't have to say anything to her
bored987: we also talked about our occupations and families and many other topics
ramenlover9: yep

bored987: what's your problem?
wind04: r u embarrsd? :D
bored987: No, you know what I'm not, I had online sex with ramenlover9, and I don't care what you think. It was damn sexy and I LIKED IT
wind04: ...

bored987: hey!
bored987: Heh...this is embarrassing....
ramenlover9: so what made you come on here?
bored987: I had this dream
ramenlover9: yeah?
bored987: yeah, you were in it.
ramenlover9: oh THAT kind of dream
bored987: :O I never said that!
ramenlover9: Yeah but I'll bet it WAS that kind of dream
bored987: Maybe, I was in a shower and you came then...
ramenlover9: You're just stopping so I'll ask what happened, but I KNOW what happened, it's obvious
bored987: You took the little wash thingy I have no idea what the hell its called
ramenlover9: Oh yeah, the wash thingy...
bored987: and you took it and started to wash by breasts...and you started scrubbing all over my body...
ramenlover9: and then?
bored987: I don't remember too well but somehow your tongue became the sponge thingy instead...
ramenlover9: right :)
bored987: You know sex in a shower might just be better than the beach, course it was a dream...
ramenlover9: so I'll have to come down there and we can find out can't we, babe?
bored987: what?!
ramenlover9: I was kidding :D
The words had a permanent mark in her brain the idea wouldn't leave. Meet him...no I can't that's insane... She continued to argue with herself, But...but...I want to...I CAN'T! The more she thought about it, the worse the idea seemed, if she knew who he really was then perhaps this chat would never work out, it should starry strictly online, she was sure. She couldn't take her eyes off the window on the screen for the longest time and didn't breathe or move whatsoever until she saw new words pop up.
ramenlover9:I really was joking, I don't know where you are! Did I scare you? I can't find you or anything, did I somehow make it sound like that? Are you there?
bored987: I sort of
rmenloer9: What?
bored987: want to
ramenlover9: Do you want me to massage your breasts?
bored987: What? :D
ramenlover987: Usually when your cryptic your horny, I've found
bored987: I don't know, I was thinking something stupid
ramenlover9: Don't be like that, remember, it's not like we'll ever meet so just say what you want.
bored987: That's the thing, we both live in Tokyo right?
ramenlover987: Yeah what are you getting at?
bored987: Nevermind
ramenlover9: Do you mean we should
bored987: meet but no I mean we couldn't
ramenlover9: Well we could but it's sort of risky
bored987: Yeah you could be an axe murderer or a rapist
ramenlover9: Yeah
bored987: WHY DON'T YOU EVER DENY THESE THINGS
ramenlover9: Because there's no way I can prove it's not true
bore987: You're right, besides you're probably an old guy
ramenlover9: and you're probably a twelve year old
bored987: But I sort of have to know, maybe this is what I've needed, and I'll find out your some freak, get over it and be able to actually have luck in relationships!
ramenlover9: Perhaps so it's on then, we're actually going to meet? Isn't this a little crazy?
bored987: I dunno, I don't have anything to hide, do you?
ramenlover9: Nope
bored987: Ok then, how about in that cute shopping center, Bright Hearts...that new one tomorrow? At 2:00
ramenlover9: Fine, and I'm NOT an old man.
bored987: We'll see.
ramenlover9: So we're not going to have online sex now?
bored987: I have to buy a new outfit for tomorrow.
ramenlover9: i but I thought the plan was see how much of a freak I am, then get over me and stop having cursed luck with men? Besides i haven't seen any of your outfits anyway
bored987: Oh well, I'm seeing you tomorrow, at least be happy about that. I'll be looking for a cocky looking race car driver who might be an old man...
ramenlover9: And I'll be looking for a red head, that could be pre-pubescent...course then I don't know why you'd want online sex unless this was a really weird prank
bored987: well, see ya
ramenlover9: bye
Okay that was a little...surreal... Kagome sat unmoving for the longest time. Suddenly she found a smile forming on her face and a very high-pitched giggle escape her. She came to an abrupt stop and looked around her in an alarmed manner hoping no one was around to have seen her act so strangely. Oh god, why am I excited and happy again? Oh yeah...because I might actually be able to have a relationship after this, maybe I’ll be able to move on with my life... But her thoughts on this soon left her and she found herself on the floor with her image of "ramenlover9" kissing her all over. Then when she blinked again she was sitting back in the computer seat and realizing there was a bit of drool forming at the corner of her mouth.
"Oh I got to stop this, there isn't anyway he's not some freak...some old guy or kid or something..."
Inuyasha gazed up at the ceiling as he fell onto the king sized bed in the European nineteenth century styled room. He folded his arms underneath the back of his head and sighed wondering exactly what he had been thinking the passed couple of days... Perhaps he had lost it just like... Just like her? Oh why did I have to think of HER...I can't DO this to myself, but maybe if...no, what the fuck is the matter with me? How could this "bored987" be someone that could make me forget...everything that happened with...her.... He focused one of the many figures painted on the marble ceiling, squinting as if he was trying to make out something or he was sure something was changing about it.
"Dammit...what am I doing? What's going to happen to me anyway? Does it even matter who this girl is?"
"I'm not sure, but you know, a mansion never hurt anyone."
"Sesshomaru...." he growled under his breath, casting his gaze as the figure in the door way. "I have my own damn house, leave me alone...."
"Yes, but as I gather things it seems that you've met some sort of girl? She's not human...again?" he inquired in his usual unemotional tone, but a flicker of anger flashed across his eyes. Inuyasha sighed in a careless manner and turned over in the bed away from his half brother.
"Who gives a fucking rat's ass if she's human or not, I don't know what the hell she is, she could be a fucking transvestite for all I fucking know, but...if she's human all be far more likely with hooking up with her just to get under your skin, dear brother..." A small chuckle escaped Sesshomaru, Inuyasha knew it was false and it was only to make like his comment hadn't bothered him, but still, Inuyasha didn't remember his brother laugh ever. He must have gotten quite a bit of money to get a smirk on his face, even an evil one.
"I don't care either, Inuyasha, what you do is your business..." Inuyasha sensed any humor that could have been in that cold man, false or not, leave. "...but it does make the family blood even more defiled..."
"Hey, dad's the one who decided to screw a human and wind up with me, why don't you curse him instead of me by picking up a pistol and joining him in Hell, I think that would make us all sleep a little easier."
"Yes, but then you would own the company and lord forbid that."
"True, but I'm sure I could get rid of it once I got it..."
"You do that, and I will haunt you for the rest of your days," Sesshomaru snarled venomously, causing the hairs on the back of Inuyasha's neck stand on end. It wasn't often his brother could manage to really scare him. Inuyasha sat up and surveyed the demon who looked uncharacteristically furious.
"What? You want me to keep that stupid company? I thought you'd rather FUCK me then have me do that!" Inuyasha exclaimed in surprise. Sesshomaru's face distorted with extreme disgust at the thought.
"No, I think incest would be a far less pleasant option, and I still believe fathers blood should remain within the company, even if defiled..."
"You know what, I don't give a shit what you believe, I don't want the company. Those fuckers can do whatever they want with it."
"You will have that company."
"Why not put one of your many puppets in charge, then they'll do whatever you want."
"After I'm dead my "puppets' as you call them will be happy to do whoever's bidding whom pays them most. They won't care at all what I want. Not even Jakken would be loyal after I am gone."
"You won't be gone though. You're evil, and evil refuses to die, it's sort of like the cockroach you're trying to squish between your heel and the concrete, it won't fucking die, you, no matter how much anyone squishes won't die. So, brother, tell me why this matters at all to you? You are demon, these humans will all be dust by the time your middle-aged, and many of the low demon scoundrels that work there will too. Why the hell me? The last thing I'll do is what you want. I won't steal like you do unless I need it to live, and I won't have anyone die for money, I don't think I'm quite qualified. Besides, I suck with business and I'm a hanyou, to you aren't I the lowest of the low? What do I have that any of your colleagues don't?" Inuyasha eyed his brother confused about the expression on his face, he suddenly brightened with a strange but satisfying idea, "What do I have...that you don't?"
There was a very long heart-stopping pause, but Inuyasha was relishing, because he was sure that he had struck a nerve. That was a once in a blue moon phenomenon.
"You may over-estimate me in some aspects I admit brother." Inuyasha could clearly see saying that made his brother cringe and it was like taking a bullet for him to say it.
"Yeah?"
"I am in a position where I have to do certain things I can't escape..." Inuyasha stared at his brother in pure awe.
"What?"
"You don't know, do you?" Inuyasha studied Sesshomaru for a very long time and for the first time, his brother looked tired, and he revealed some of the seams Inuyasha never realized were so torn.
"Don't know what?" he inquired slowly unsure if he wanted to know. He didn't like to see this side of his brother. He was fine with loathing Sesshomaru when he was an ass hole, everything had been fine before, his brother was a heartless jerk and they both had mutual loathing, it worked. His brother was a curse to humanity and annoying as anything, and Inuyasha hated him, his brother had no emotion, no weakness, and he loathed that. But no, he saw that his brother's never failing shiny penny head's side had an equal opposing side of rust and torn weakness, that his invincibility was non-existent, that his cold heart was possibly thawed, that he was perhaps not evil. That perhaps...
He couldn't hate him.
"I'm married." Inuyasha jaw dropped. It really did, he never felt more stunned in his entire life. So many questions flooded his thoughts he couldn't keep track of them all much less choose one to ask. "I had to do it." That cleared up some of them, Inuyasha couldn't see his brother willfully marrying, for love or some sort of crap like that... "The media wasn't so easy to hush up sometimes...one of the stations was on my tail and realized I wasn't quite as goodly as I claimed, they had no reason to believe me. I seemed pretty lacking in empathy and cold, why would they think not to start looking for dirt, why would the police not start to interrogate or society except me. They hate demons, that was why the corporation would not take me at all for the longest time, not even as janitor. Then of course, I found the contract...but you know all that...' Inuyasha could see very clearly what he had been missing the passed month, his brother had been quite different, much more stressed and on edge. But shockingly enough, much more....
Kind.
He took a deep breath as if it took a lot of out of him just to talk. "For my image, I had to get married, and not to a demon, to a human." Inuyasha's eyes brows shot up and his eyes widened to the extent they could. His brother? Marry a human? He wouldn't have believed it if anyone else had told him, if Sesshomaru didn't look so sincere and so human himself at the moment, He would have never believed otherwise, and even in this situation he still was a little unsure.
"But–" Inuyasha began, but Sesshomaru held up a weary hand for silence.
"They told me it didn't matter at all who it was. It just had to be a human, preferably your average Jane Doe, someone who wasn't rich at all; someone no one knew, so they wouldn't think it was for money, fame, or anything superficial, but for love so it would seem as if I wasn't as heartless as I portrayed." Inuyasha blinked several times to make sure he was awake after this last statement. Portrayed? Had he been acting heartless? "...there was this secretary at the office–obviously I loathed the idea with all my being, the idea, defiling the family blood line further? But I figured it was only for business and I had no intention of being locked up...and I remembered when I saw her that I had acted rather uncharacteristic toward her when she came straight to my office in all her naïveté without an appointment, without any accomplishments...without a résumé or any reason for being in my office. She talked to my former secretary and asked to see me."
"She of course dismissed the girl immediately, but I was walking by at the time... The girl ran right up to me and said, 'Can I please have a job here please? I don't look like much, but my family has nothing and I beg you to have a little kindness...I have had an education, I can obtain a résumé and everything you need–but it costs ten yen to use the copy machine next door for every sheet of paper...we don't have enough...to even afford that...' I wondered how she could even afford school and she told me at one time her family was very wealthy but her father had gambled away all the money. She didn't find my expression very comforting so she asked the secretary for a pad of paper and wrote down all her accomplishments and recommendations. "There, that's the best résumé I can offer you, but I need the job now, because my mother is dying...' she said. The secretary at the time told the girl it was ridiculous that she would at least need a real résumé and an interview to get her job, and she herself would first need to be fired before the girl could replace her.
"The résumé was very good, and I knew what it was like to have a father who had ruined everything for you...to be forced to rely on other to begin your journey to something greater. Besides, my secretary at the time was far less recommended and had quite an attitude most of the time, I turned to the girl and asked, "how much would you like to be paid if you get the job?' And she returned, 'I have no idea, anything I don't care, as long as its enough to make my mother well again,' I paused a long while and said, "How does ten thousand yen a week sound?' The secretary was scandalized of course...but the young girl who I later found out was named Rin was very happy about the entire thing..." Inuyasha saw a gleam in his eyes that he was sure he imagined, and Sesshomaru gazed somewhat vacantly with a slight curve to his lips that wasn't sinister whatsoever.
"So, I figured she must have been different, if she had had the courage to come to my office like she had a year or so before, so when I saw her that day, though I was so enraged over the entire ordeal...I considered her as a possible solution to my problem. "What do you think of me?' I asked her. And she looked up from all the papers on her desk and beamed quite nicely and returned, "Well I think you're wonderful Sesshomaru-sama, because of you my mother's healthy and I have more than one outfit again...in fact we have our own house now, and I'll be getting my own apartment soon...all because of you.' I didn't know what to say after that because I suddenly began to believe it was a poorly thought out idea so I proceeded to leave. But she spoke again and said, "Sesshomaru-sama?' which caused me to stop, and she said, "to be honest, I think you're very handsome...and when you sit at your desk with nothing to do you day dream like I do, and when I see you doing that it makes my heart feel strange... But I feel even stranger when you look lonely, which is almost all the time. You look very unhappy, but no one else seems to notice, not even you, because you get yourself so busy with your money, you try to distract yourself from the pain, but I can tell...you're very lonely. And excuse me for saying it, Sesshomaru-sama, but...but I think you should stop for a while. because you are keeping everyone away from you, and I want–I mean–people want you to be happy... I think you need someone to make you happy...' "And who should that be?' I asked her. She was very embarrassed, such a modest girl and she stammered so badly. But I inquired, "If I asked you to marry me, would you?' She was so surprised, but she seemed more joyful than shocked and she nodded, but she seemed to think a moment and finally said, "I love you so I want to...only, in order for me to say yes...you would have to love me..."
"And did you?" Inuyasha breathed, finding himself bizarrely caught up in the story and also at a failure to comprehend that this was his brother speaking.
"Do you think I did?"
"I don't...know..."
"She kissed me then...even if my silence was discouraging, and after she did I could only say, 'I could never love a human...'"
"Sesshomaru..." Inuyasha murmured in a saddened and disappointed, almost pitying tone. That was it again, his brother chuckling! AGAIN!
"The only thing that strong willed girl would say was, 'then explain why you're in love with me. I am no demon.'" There was a very dense silence that surrounded them and Inuyasha was positive now, that it must be a dream. How in the world could this be his brother in reality?
"What happened after that?"
"We were married...a few days later... But...now they want me to kill her Inuyasha, she knows to much about the inner workings of the corporation and the dealings..."
"What?"
"....they don't understand that I can't send someone to do that...they don't understand that I'm in love with her... How could they? They think I'm in love with my money...in fact they know nothing of love..."
"You...are?" Inuyasha said in surprise, as if he was at a loss to fathom it.
"Yes...and that is why you have to take over. You are the only one that won't break under them Inuyasha, you aren't like I was. Cold and indifferent, willing to do anything to gain power...I'd never admit it but the money owned me and I was capable of doing anything to keep it...but now I can't do this anymore..."
"But, Sesshomaru, you can fire all those bad people, you can stop all of this madness..."
"No, I can't...I can't BE in that place anymore... they will kill Rin if they get the chance..."
"But won't they even if you get out?"
"Not if I disappear, and if I don't have any of their money anymore, then they will forget me...only you can change what had been so distorted, Inuyasha."
"Me? What the fuck can I do?" A very tired and weak sigh escaped Sesshomaru as he looked up from the ground to his brother's matching golden eyes.
"There is an heirloom, our father left behind, that makes your power surpass mine greatly. And you won't break under them, as I did."
"I don't want to do this."
"Then destroy the company, become the head and dismantle it, but I cannot."
"I can't do this all at once, can't you give me a little while to think about all this?"
"Do not become tied to a mortal woman Inuyasha, they will kill her if they want you to do something for them and you fail, it is only a weakness."
"I never said I'd do it."
"Fine, but in one week's time, you better tell me what it is you choose, and I would advise that you steer clear of any mortal women."
"I'll do what I want," Inuyasha cut in cruelly, but as he saw the expression on his half brother's face, and he began to wish he hadn't been so unkind.
"Take care," he said with more of his previous iciness, and he strode toward the door.
"Wait," Inuyasha said, causing Sesshomaru to stop in his tracks. "Please don't make me do this, I can't do this...what makes you think they'll listen to me?" He demanded desperately.
"Just, relax for this next week, perhaps don't think too much of these matters...aren't you supposed to meet someone tomorrow?"
"Yeah, but I thought I couldn't have anything to do with humans..."
"As you're not anything to do with the corporation yet, I wouldn't worry, you may never be, but for the company you may have to let her go... And what about Ki–"
"I'm going to break things off don't worry," Inuyasha cut in awkwardly, he still didn't like to talk about her much.
"Alright," Sesshomaru returned, looking at him with an empathetic expression. Inuyasha didn't know what alien had taken over his brother, but boy did it want to make things far more complicated,
"So...all this for one mortal, never thought I'd see the day..."
"It's for three actually..."
"Hmm?"
"She's pregnant...with twins..."
"I'm sorry Kagome, but I was worried that–"
"I know but Sota's right, I know what I'm doing, I can handle this," she assured them, as she took a cup of coffee from Sota's wife. Kagome looked at them both directly in the eyes and the two exchanged glances. Sota finally sighed again, stood up and began to put on his jacket.
The two quickly dashed out the door, shouting joyously and Kagome closed it without a second thought, running much like they had, only for the computer seat.
ramenlover9: Thought you weren't coming back to this chat again.

bored987: yeah, you were in it.
ramenlover9: oh THAT kind of dream
bored987: :O I never said that!
ramenlover9: Yeah but I'll bet it WAS that kind of dream
bored987: Maybe, I was in a shower and you came then...
ramenlover9: You're just stopping so I'll ask what happened, but I KNOW what happened, it's obvious
bored987: You took the little wash thingy I have no idea what the hell its called
ramenlover9: Oh yeah, the wash thingy...
bored987: and you took it and started to wash by breasts...and you started scrubbing all over my body...
ramenlover9: and then?
bored987: I don't remember too well but somehow your tongue became the sponge thingy instead...
ramenlover9: right :)
bored987: You know sex in a shower might just be better than the beach, course it was a dream...
ramenlover9: so I'll have to come down there and we can find out can't we, babe?
bored987: what?!
ramenlover9: I was kidding :D
