“You sure you don't want me to wait? Those books are heavier than you…”

“They have to be—how else would I defend myself?”

Koga shook his head with a half grin “Just get back over to my place around five. Ayame wants to make dinner…”

Kagome smiled “So I should probably bring take-out with me…?”

“Or have a pizza boy standing outside the door” Koga mused

“Alright, see ya then”

They met to kiss each other the cheek before Koga left her in the coffee shop to her pile of work. Kikyo was supposed to have come and helped her study but the girl was no where to be found. Being Friday, she assumed her sister was already out at hang outs…

Still--she glanced at her cell phone--a call would have been nice…

When doing work she always lost track of time and the people around her. So after nearly an hour of being in her own little world, Kagome was startled to feel someone touch her shoulder.

She jumped, her pencil flying up in the air, only to be caught by Inuyasha.

“Hello to you too…” He handed back the pencil with a grim look “A nice “hi” would have been fine…”

Kagome giggled “Sorry, reflex”

“Someone attacks you and you throw a pencil…why do I have the feeling you're not attached often…?”

“I'm not; too many guy friends to have anyone within ten feet of me” She smiled “What brings you here?”

“Hiding”

“Hiding?”

“Yeah” He pulled at Koga's empty chair so that it was backwards before plopping down “From your sister. Anyone ever tell you that there's something wrong with her…?”

“Only everyday” she replied honestly “But that doesn't mean what everybody says is true…”

“Alright, well I'll tell ya what is true. That chick has not left me alone for five minuets since Monday. Everywhere I turn she's there…do you know how fucked up that it?”

“Hmm”

She chose to start up on her work again. It was getting so hard to defend Kikyo….with each person she spoke with she learned something she didn't want to of her sister.

“Are you sure you're just not ignoring her and this is your guilty conscious coming into play?”

“Fuck no. I have no guilty conscious”

“Figures”

His eyes turned hard “Pardon?”

“Yes, you may be excused”

“What the hell did I say?!”

Kagome sighed, lifting her head back to Inuyasha “Look, I'm not going to sit her and let someone bad talk my sister. Either start a new conversation or go away”

“Well, aren't you a loyal one…”

“Shut up”

“Ouch” he faked an arrow through his heart “That was a purely Kikyo-like snap”

“Once again, I'm hearing the word Kikyo but still seeing you…”

“Alright, alright—new conversation” His face turned a bit red as he cleared his throat “I've probably just fucked up my chance but--what do you think about catching a movie with me?”

Kagome bit her lip “Oh. I don't know…”

“What's not to know?”

“I'd have to ask Kikyo…”

He glared “And just why the fuck would you have to do that…?”

“Well, she was with you first…its like a rule of—“

“We aren't together”

His face looked completely serious but…she still felt a pang of worry. She didn't want something that had been or was Kikyo's. It sounded horrible and wrong but…she just wanted something—someone that was hers.

And this guy was so incredibly great, so far, too.

Kagome sighed, leaning back in her chair

“I swear to you, there's nothing going on between me and Kikyo”

She nodded “Alright”

He straightened “Alright what? To the promise or—“

“A movie sounds good” she smiled

“Tonight?”

“Tomorrow” she shook her head, already gathering her things “There's a dinner sorta party going on at Koga's that I said I'd go to…”

“Keh. I managed to wiggle out of that one”

He helped her gather her piles as they both stood. And without a word, and before Kagome could even move, he had picked up her books

“I'll walk with you”

She nodded, as the two made their way outside

“You've lived her for a long time, huh?”

“Yep. About five years now…At first it was just me and my sister. Then Sango—“

“Which one is that?”

“The one with the baseball bat” she giggled “Then Ayame—“

“Koga's girl?”

“Oh, no. Koga is my man”

“In what sense..?” he mumbled with a faint hint of agitation

“No, no, nothing like that. Koga is just my protector of sorts…he's been around as long as Kikyo and I have. I suppose he's like a brother to me”

“Hmmm. Well, good. That guy isn't your type”

“My type?” she smiled, crossing her arms “And tell me, Inuyasha, what exactly is my type?”

“Oh, I don't know…silver hair, gold eyes, tall, shockingly handsome…”

“Now, if only you were handsome, then I suppose you'd be my type”

“Hey”

He nudged her, and she nudged him back, as they made their way up the stairs of the complex. In the elevator there was more people than room and Kagome found herself pressed to his side, while clinging to his arm.

Even after they exited the small confinement, she kept a hold on him.

“Thanks for carrying the books. So gentleman-like”

“Keh. I doubt you could have anyways”

“Hey! I got them there…with the help of Koga…”

“Course”

“Kagome!”

The pair turned to see Sango come jogging up to them “Please, please, please tell me you've called for pizza?! Ayame tried lasagna”

Kagome laughed “Yeah, about a half an hour ago....salvation will come soon”

Sango sighed “Good”

Her eyes looked over Kagome holding Inuyasha's arm and him carrying her books as a smile captured her lips.

“Ayame!”

The girl poked her head out of the door down the hall, before coming over

“Look! Kagome and a guy!”

“You two!” Kagome flushed, avoiding eye contact with Inuyasha

“Aren't you the new guy?”

“Yea. Inuyasha” He cocked them a lop-sided grin

“Are you two going out?”

“Well—“

“First date is tomorrow”

Ayame and Sango laughed “Keep him! Keep him!”

“No, no, no!” Koga came out into the hall looking over at the newly formed couple, before throwing his arm around Ayame's shoulders “Kagome, this guy is not for you”

“Says who wolf?”

“Says me” he said smugly “You're bad news and I don't want you tainting Kagome”

“Keh”

“Stop it Koga” Sango fussed “You'll scare him away”

“Inuyasha won't be scared away” he mumbled. He looked like he wanted to say something else; instead he turned, taking Ayame with him “Now back to the apartment! Hinta should have the drinks ready!”

Inuyasha and Kagome were left alone once again and she found it hard not to blush. After clearing her throat, she reached for her doorknob and let them in.

“I'm sorry about that…my friends are all…uh…”

“Very into your life?” he finished, dropping her books to the table

“That's the nice way of putting it, anyways…”

Without much care, Kagome left the room and went to her room to grab a sweatshirt before coming back to the livingroom to see him munching on the cereal again.

“You never even finished this?”

“No” she smiled, pulling on her shirt

“All that fight for nothing...”

She laughed, making her way over to where he sat on the stool to take some cereal.

“Are you coming to the party now?”

“Never. I have shit to take care of”

She looked off, a bit disappointed “I see”

Before she knew what was happening, she found herself on his lap, with an arm securely around her waist. He pulled her close, her back against that same strong chest as his lips nearly touched her ear.

“I'll see you tomorrow anyways…don't sound to put off”

“I—I wasn't! I was only asking”

“Keh”

“Kagome?!”

Both sets of eyes turned to see Kikyo standing with a hairbrush in her hand.

Immediately, Kagome tried to wiggle free but Inuyasha held her against him.

“What the hell are you doing with him!?”

“I—“

“Fuck off Kikyo. What we do is none of your damned business”

“We?” she repeated angrily “Kagome, don't tell me you're with—“

“As a matter of fact she is bitch. So run off and torture someone else for a change”

“Kagome” she looked to her younger sister “Is that true…?”

“Well, we---“

Kikyo shook her head and spun, tears in her eyes, before disappearing down the hall.

“Wait! Kikyo!” Kagome quickly pushed out of Inuyasha's hold, but before she could go after her sister, Inuyasha had a hold on her “What?!”

He narrowed his eyes at her tone but looked past it “We still on for tomorrow?”

“I” she looked to the bedroom “I don't know…”

Inuyasha growled “What's not to know…?”

“I—“ her eyes looked nervously to the room then to him “I just don't…I….please…?”

He sighed, releasing her wrist as she fled for her sister. Kagome didn't even notice the door slamming shut rather roughly as she entered her sister's room to find her at her vanity with her head in her arms.

“Kikyo” she knelt at her sister's side, pulling on her sleeve like a child “What's--?”

“How could you, Kagome?” Her head shot up, as tears laced her eyelashes “I would expect this from anyone but you” Kagome mouth opened in question “Cheating on—“

“Cheating! But—but Inuyasha said that you two weren't together!”

Kikyo sighed, patting her sisters arm “Little sister. You have to stop being so naïve. Its obvious he only said that to—well, you know…”

Kagome blushed. She didn't have much experience with men trying to get one thing from her.

“Its alright” Kikyo's tears seemed to have magically vanished “I'll forgive you only because you didn't know any better”

Kagome bit her lip, watching as her sister went back to primping herself.

“What?!”

“Yea” Kagome pushed her finger around the rim of the glass “He's with Kikyo…but” she raised her head, looking to Ayame and Sango “But when we spoke, he looked so serious I couldn't help but trust him”

“Well, that's guys for you” Ayame mumbled “Cant trust a single one of them…they only want one thing after all”

Sango bopped her on the head before turning to Kagome “So what are you going to do…?”

She shrugged helplessly “What is there to do? He's with Kikyo and—arg! I feel like such an idiot…”

“Don't. If anyone is the idiot its him!” Ayame insisted “We should go over there and give him a piece of our—your mind!”

“No, no” Kagome waved her hands in front of her “That's really not—“

“Ayame's right!”

And so the two dragged Kagome through the party guests, out the door, down the hall, and in front of the first door on the third floor. Both Sango and Ayame raised a hand to knock at the same time.

Kagome tried wiggling away but they each had a hold on either side of her, making her still.

“Ladies!” The door flew open and with the same abruptness as Monday, Miroku crushed all three into an embrace “No towels this time?” His eyes danced on Sango's “Or bats…?”

“Sadly no” she mumbled “Where's Inuyasha? We—er, Kagome needs to talk with him”

“Figures he get the girls” he mumbled before looking over his shoulder to shout “Inuyasha! Door!”

Silence.

“Where the hell did that guy get to…?”

Miroku walked in, leaving the door open as the two dragged an unwilling Kagome in as well. The whole place was covered in random boxes from top to bottom—the only thing out was a foosball table with a box of pizza on top.

“Hey, Inuyasha! Door!” he shouted again.

“Alright, alright!”

The hanyou came out in worn down jeans and a red shirt, his hair all messy but oddly sexy. He was holding a cup of instant Ramen and was half way into a bite when his eyes met Kagome's.

He let the helping fall back into the cup as his face turned cool “Oh”

“We came here for answers!” Ayame said sharply. Immediately her and Sango began advancing on the confused hanyou, but instead of backing away, he only leaned back a bit as they tried towering over him “Don't think you can get away with doing that to our friend mister!”

“Doing--?”

“I can't believe you! You think you can just come in her and straight up play her and her sister like that without notice? How dumb are you?!”

“Playing her? How am I--?”

“You should be ashamed of yourself!”

“What did I--?”

“If I was Kagome, I'd be showing you no mercy”

“Oooh, I like her” Miroku whispered to a flustered Kagome “She taken?”

Kagome was past mortified but managed to shake her head

“Awesome”

“You are the most sleazy man and if we—“

“As in any of us”

“See you anywhere--”

“And that includes feet, inches, and yards”

“Near her again, you'll be—“

“Hold the fuckin' phone!” Inuyasha shouted, causing the two girls to comically fall “What the fuck is going on here?!”

“Like you don't know” Sango huffed

“Player” Ayame murmured

“Player?” Inuyasha questioned angrily

“Player?” Miroku questioned in humor, before breaking out into a laughing fit “Inuyasha?! Hahahaha~that's a good one!”

“You! Shut it” Sango snapped “Your friend conned Kagome into a date when he's already seeing Kikyo!”

“What?!” Both boys shouted at once

“What in the seven hells gave you that idea?!”

“Kikyo” the two chimed

“That fuckin'--” he stopped, eyeing Kagome “When I told you I the coffee house that I wasn't with that bitch, I meant it, alright? You said you trusted me”

“I know—I do…did” she stuttered, rubbing her arm. All the attention on her was making her nervous “But then Kikyo said that—“

“That we were together?!” He growled, slamming his cup on the foosball table

“She told Kagome that you were playing her” Sango confirmed. Her voice was soft as her arms folded against her chest “It's not true…?”

“Of course it isn't!” he stepped forward, reaching for Kagome's hand “I swear to you, to the high Kami, that I'm not seeing that insufferable woman”

Kagome felt uneasy against the hard gold stare and the gentle pressure as his fingers squeezed hers. A battle of emotions was playing out in her heart…she wanted to trust her sister, but she wanted to trust Inuyasha even more…

But wasn't that bad…?

She knew Kikyo her whole life, Inuyasha barely two days.

Then again, she DID know Kikyo…it was horrible to admit, but this was something Kikyo would pull to get things her way.

Unless…maybe Kagome had just heard her sister wrong?

Kagome mental nodded. Yes. Kikyo wouldn't do something low…

Finally, her face broke into a small smile “I'm sorry”

Everyone in the room released a built up sigh, including Inuyasha who was the loudest.

He grinned back “Movie?”

She squeezed his fingers “You know the answer”
