Chapter Eight
My Twin
Here's chapter eight, hopefully you'll enjoy it. Remember, R&R!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"They have ben connected, I assume?" asked Hateshi as Midoriko came into view.
"Hai, the encounter with the hanyou did more damage than intended and they were sent
back. I do not know the outcome of the situation." said Midoriko as she sat down.
Hateshi sighed at shook her head. She really wanted to avoid contact with the hanyou
altogether, but h was stubborn and now both of them suffered for it. She had to speak with the
others about this and what they could do to help it.
Midoriko coughed and spoke in a low voice,"No disrespect Hateshi-sama, but why were
they chosen and why are these things happening?"
A small smile worked its way onto her face as she replied,"Well I suppose you should
know the whole story so that you wouldn't be so confused," she finished while taking on a
thoughtful look.
"Well you should get comfortable Midoriko, this is quite a long story. I'll start from the
beginning so that it'll be clear."
"Arigato Hateshi-sama, I appreciate it."
"Well this begins back when the world was just coming into creation. The Kamis made the
decision that there should be something that could entertain them so they created Heaven and

Hell, the worlds that now house the souls of the deceased, depending on what they did in life.
Soon after, they created creatures of these worlds that held a bit of power. Tenshi; celestial beings
that held the power of light and youkai that held the power of darkness.
Among these were two, a tenshi and a youkai, that were the strongest of their race and
were the peace keepers of the worlds. As time went on, these two grew stronger until the only
ones that could match their strength were the Kamis themselves. At the peak of their power,
which lasted for about five-thousand years, the two grew to love each other.
They both knew that their love was forbidden for light and dark were complete opposites.
If one of them dominated the other, then that one element would gain complete power and wipe
out the other elemnt and chaos would erupt. But the couple was foolish thinking that no one
could oppose them.
When they were finally mated, the result was that the tenshi Assarishita, the female of the
couple, became pregnant with a child. Kuraymi, her youkai mate, was overjoyed when he found
out that he was to be a father. The two were happy, for the time being.
Along the way, Kurayami sensed that he was to be fathering twins instead of a single
child. They were both worried if Assarishita would survive the birth for it was well known that
very few woman survived twin youkai births. Either the mother survived and one of the pups
died, the mother died and both the pups survived, all of them died, or the mother and oe of the
pups died. The chances of all three of them surviving were slim to none.
On top of this there was a chance that they would be hunted down and killed for being
together in the first place. Their children would technically be hanyou and they very well knew
that children of mixed blood that weren't true to their original heritage weren't welcome in youkai
or tenshi community.
Though tenshi were peaceful beings and didn't hate anything or anyone, they were not
perfect. They hid their distaste for hanyou in subtle actions; like scolding them extra when they
didn't need it, or discriminating them in games and such things like that.
It was during her pregnancy that the Kamis created Earth, the middle world where
humans, their other latest creation, resided. Though they were a greedy and sometimes cruel race,
the demons and tenshi cam to earth because it gave them a new world to explore. It was
something different from the pristine setting the Tenshi came from, and the fiery pits that the
youkai came from.
When the youkai and tenshi, but mainly the youkai integrated quite nicely into the human
society, with only a few skirmishes. Demons proved to reign supreme and established their own
society that overruled the current, human, one.
They divided the land into four regions; north, south, east, and west. The inu-youkai took
the west, the neko-youkai took the east, the water elemental youkai took the south, and the

lightning elemental youkai took the north. Each established their clan and kept it there for
millennia. Though most of them eventually came to an end, the Western Lands clan of inu-youkai
stood strong and is still alive today. Alive, but not thriving.
Anyway, the couple fled to earth and disguised themselves as humans, and while they were
down on earth, the children were born. One boy and one girl; fraternal twins. But they were the
most unique of their kind, and the only.
What was so strange about them was that the girl instead of being mostly tenshi or youkai,
she held both traits, bust her tenshi traits were a bit stronger. It was vice versa for the boy. Their
powers both seemed to be triggered by emotion and both were nearly inseparable.
As they grew they grew stronger cue to the strenuous physical and mental training they
were put through. Though their parents did the best they could to hide them, their auras were
simply too powerful and big, and they were soon discovered.
The youkai communities were outraged at the fact that their leader had mated with a
tenshi, their sworn enemies, and had children no less. They soon flew into a rage and riots and
battles broke out all over the lands and many tenshi lives were lost due to the fact that they
refused to fight.
At first, the tenshi were just as furious, but after Assarishita talked to them and pleaded
that they be spared, they realized that the anger was based on nothing. They saw that the union
was one of love and they understood better than the youkai that love if what life was based on.
Assarishita and Kurayami were two beings that were bound together by the love they shared and
the children were a product of it.
They would not fight for they had nothing to fight for, so in reality, the battles were more
like massacres. The numbers of the tenshi dropped until they were almost extinct. Then came the
evil one. A demon a great power, enough to rival even Kurayami's, gathered an army of youkai to
finally annihilate the tenshi once and for all.
They met in a valley, tow forces lined up, prepared for the worst. The army coming from
the west was one that was composed of the remaining tenshi, the inu-youkai of the west, the
water elemental youkai, and the humans. The army approaching from the east was made of
demons, he neko-youkai of the east, and the lightning elemental youkai of the north.
Both armies had sought allies for the fight, and the groups had gladly agreed. The east and
west gladly accepted for they had been feuding over land and other such things, the same went for
the north and the south; the humans wanted revenge on the youkai for slaughtering their fellows
in the riots.
Either way, both armies were well prepared. And at the break of dawn, the first was struck
and the battle ensued. It lasted for weeks until both side were brought to a stalemate. Kurayami
and Assarishita watched as they friends and allies were slain without mercy until they couldn't

take it anymore and intervened. The leader or the evil army, Yokoshima, was working his way
toward the center of the battlefield where Assarishita and Kurayami stood. Both of them pleaded
to the armies to stop the senseless fighting, and they listened, tired of fighting. But Yokoshima
was too enraged to listen and charged.
Assarishita told Kurayami to go to the children and keep them safe while she took care of
Yokoshima. She stood her ground, knowing that she was the only one who could possibly defeat
him because light was the opposite of darkness. If Kurayami had fought him, they would have
ended up in a standoff because two dark elemental youkai would just cancel out each other's
powers.
She raised her hands as tears silently fell down her cheek. She chanted as she started to
glow, and soon the whole field was obscured by her light. When it died down, Yokoshima had
vanished and everyone on the field had been healed and their lives restored.
Assarishita lay in a heap on the bloody earth, a weak but satisfied smile on her face.
Kurayami had been watching the whole event from a surrounding mountain and sped down to his
fallen mate, eyes shimmering with rage and unshed tears. He knelt beside her, holding her tightly
in his desperate embrace, whispering words of comfort, begging her to survive for him and their
children.
She just smiled at him, a true genuine smile, and told him that her purpose had been served
and that she would be returning to her homeland in Heaven. He cried out, but she shushed him,
saying that he would soon join her once he passed on. As her last breath left her, she slumped
over and went limp in his arms.
He sat there and cried for the first time in his life. He cried for his dead mate, he cried for
his motherless children, he cried for ever letting this happen, and he cried to fate for being so
cruel. The onlookers were overcome with grief, even those that had fought against Assarishita
and Kurayami were hit with the major impact.
The land went into a deep depression that lasted for centuries, mourning the loss of the
spirit of light. The sun did not shine, for Assarishita was the sun, the essence of light itself, and
now that light had been extinguished.
The moon did not rise, for the spirit of darkness, Kurayami, was mourning the loss of his
mate. The land was cast into what seemed like an eternal darkness. Kurayami eventually just
faded away, dying of a broken heart and of malnourishment. During the period without light, he
had refused to eat, sleep, or communicate with anyone, shutting himself off from the rest of the
world.
When he died, he was smiling and for the first time in centuries, was truly happy. He knew
that he was going to heaven and would once again be with his beloved." said Hateshi as she drew
in a breath.

Midoriko looked forlorn and confused," But what happened to the children, what became
of them?" she asked eagerly.
"I was getting to that. The children were returned back to their spiritual forms and taken
away from the physical realm. They then merged with souls of another. The girl's soul merged
with yours Midoriko-sama. The boy's soul merged with Onigumo's."
"If that is so, then why did they not reveal themselves while I or Kikyo was alive?" asked
Midoriko, a little jealous that Kagome was chosen over her.
Hateshi chuckled. "You must remember that they were their own person and they decided
when they would emerge. She must have thought that the conditions weren't right while you and
Kikyo were alive."
"If she merged with my soul, then wouldn't she have died when I did as well?"
"No, she is not excluded from the theory of reincarnation. Once she merged with your
soul, she could not detatch herself without killing her host."
"Then Naraku houses the spirit of darkness's soul?"
"Hai, but his soul is no longer pure. When the boy first merged with Onigumo's soul,
Onigumo was still considered a pure being. But when he offered himself to the demons that
consumed his the soul, the boys soul as well became tainted. So now the spirit of darkness's soul
is no longer pure."
"But wasn't the spirit's soul already tainted? I thought that things that were dark were
born tainted and stayed that way unless purified."
"No. Just because someone is born of darkness, does not mean they are tainted. Darkness
is not a thing that taints others, it is merely another element such as light. Evil is what taints
things. Everyone is born pure, but when they become evil, that's when they become tainted. When
Onigumo accepted the evil of the demons is when he was tainted."
"Oh. So Naraku is Kagome's twin after all?"
"Yes and they cannot be separated or once again, the world will perish."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Well this chapter was kinda short but it did explain Kagome and Naraku's past. The next one will
be really angsty and another fateful meeting will happen. Any comments please make them.
