Chapter 3
InuYasha sat down in his chair next the bed relieved that it was morning and that the long night was two days ago. His father was truly furious when he realized that his son failed to take a mate. Memories of that moment flashed back in InuYasha's head.
~~~~ Flashback~~~~~~~
InuYasha had just barley escaped the group of himes that attacked him asking questions about what type of girls was his type and having other girls say that one is not good enough and the others are just wasting their time. The himes where literally fighting over the western prince. He could not break up the massive ca fight so he retreated at first chance.
“Enjoying yourself, young InuYasha.” Lord Yuudai said.
InuYasha took a deep breath of relief. “Yes, Lord Yuudai, I just barley got away with my life. Those himes are obsessed. Aren't their lad enough.”
“ That InuYasha I agree with. The himes are a bit of a rambunctious lot and will do anything to marry a prince of your status.”
“I don't think I will find love tonight. Or any night if father continues to organizes theses events. I want to meet a girl the old fashion way. `True love at first sight.'”
“It will happen someday young prince. Be patient it will happen someday.” Yuudai said as he put a hand on InuYasha shoulder.
“I'm about what my father will say when I tell him I won't be choosing a mate tonight.”
“InuYasha!” A deadly growl came from behind him and InuYasha turned to face his father. InuTaisho's eyes were on the verge of bleeding crimson red.
“F-father, I... I... I was just on my way to talk to you.”
“ Tell me son, What is it you wish to speak about?”
Sucking up all of his courage InuYasha responded in a quick and low voice. “I will not be choosing a mate tonight Father.”
“Well my son I am only able to tell you this…” InuTaisho's eyes became a dark crimson red and he stood nose to nose with his son. At the top of his lunges and in the darkest and deepest voice, you could imagine he shouted. “YOU HAD BETTER FIND A MATE OR I WILL NEUTER YOU!!!!!” InuYasha stumbled back onto the floor and coward at the sudden raise in his fathers usually calm and collected voice. The only other time his father had been like this was when InuYasha and Sesshoumaru were still pups.
“That makes for a fine memory.” InuYasha blurted out in a sarcastic tone.
Second Flashback
A young Sesshoumaru and even younger InuYasha were outside in the garden. The scene that greeted anyone who would walk by was hilarious. InuYasha was on top of Sesshoumaru head trying to get one of the palace nekos out of a tree.
“Here kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty.” Said InuYasha.
Sesshoumaru made a sound of extreme annoyance and called to his younger brother to hurry up because he was heavy.
“I thought that you were supposed to be mister muscle. With all those training lessons of yours.”
“ Shut up you little pest and hurry up.”
“Fine.” InuYasha reached out to the branch nearest his hand and grabbed on holding on for dear life. “I got it. You can move now I have a good grip.” Sesshoumaru did not hesitate to move out from underneath his brother's body, walked to the pond in front of the tree, and laughed as little brother struggled to keep his hold on the branch.
“Keep holding on InuYasha. I think that the cat is going to come to you. Not all cats are afraid dog demons you know.”
“You think so. I sure hope so because this is getting hard.” InuYasha swung on leg up to the branch in hopes of getting it over but he failed, he tried the other leg and failed again.
After realizing that would not, work InuYasha looked down and realized he was too far up to jump down.
“Hey Sesshoumaru! Do you think you could help me out here? I'm kinda stuck.”
“Your doing fine InuYasha. Hold on a little longer and your strength will return. I have faith in you little brother.”
“Really? Thank You, big brother. Your best.”
“What are brothers for?” Sesshoumaru said and then answered himself in his mind. `They are for humiliating there younger siblings until the point of destruction.'
“Sesshoumaru HELP! I'm going to fall I can feel my hands slipping.”
“Coming!” Sesshoumaru lied. He stayed right where he was until the time came that InuYasha lost his grip and fell to the ground with a hard *THUD*
Sesshoumaru burst out laughing and telling his brother how truly stupid he was. “I knew you wouldn't last. I cannot believe you believed me. I will never have faith in you because you are not capable of my powers due to the fact that you are a filthy little half-breed.”
Instead of breaking down into tears like those, that he was expected to do InuYasha lunged his body at Sesshoumaru and the two little pups began to wrestle in the soft grass.
InuTaisho heard InuYasha's fall and ran to see what was wrong. The sight that greeted him caused his temperature to rise and his anger was poring over his aura causing it to flame red with rage.
“BOYS!” he roared.
“Uh oh.” Both brothers said at the same time.
“WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?” InuTaisho's temper was still high as he glanced at his sons.
“We were just playing father?” said Sesshoumaru innocently.
“PLAYING YEAH RIG…” Sesshoumaru clasped his hand on InuYasha's mouth and gave him a look that said `If you say anything I will see to it that you will die by my hands. Gulping InuYasha continued his sentence. “Yeah, we were just playing father.
Sorry for all the noise.”
“ Be careful my sons.” InuTaisho said as his tempered returned to normal. He was still curious as to the thud he heard but figured that his son's attics were just a little too rough this time. He always knew that they were rambunctious little things.
***************************************************************** *******
“I still don't get how he didn't hear Sesshoumaru making fun of me. The bastard. He gets away with everything.”
InuYasha looked out into the horizon and over the Western Lands. “Sesshoumaru you asshole I hope you run into some real trouble out there.” InuYasha knew he did not mean it completely but still wanted something to happen to his brother that would teach him a lesson in respect.
Sesshoumaru was on his horse with the three mikos walking behind him silently.
`I wonder what they are really up to?' Sesshoumaru thought to himself. `They seem to be lying on some part but I just can't place it. What is it that is not so rght with them? Perhapes I should go to this castle and find out what they are really up to.'
`But you don't want to.' Stated his inner thoughts.
`Yes, but it may prove to be entertaining to see what the three wenches have planned.'
`I suppose so. Hey do what you want but don't get us killed.'
`You worry too much.'
There was no respond. The voice wanted to say Its my worrying that keeps us alive. But knew that it would be pointless. Sesshoumaru always had an advantage when it came to his inner thoughts.
“My lord. have you made a decision on weather or not you will be accompanying us to the palace?” Yuudai asked as if she could read his mind.
“I will agree to go to this castle on one condition and that condition will be for you three to keep up.”
“What do you mean?” but before she could get an answer Sesshoumaru was racing off in the distance with his horse.
“The jerk.” Said Mizuki.
“We must keep our end of the bargain.” Aimi said and ran off to follow.
“Come on Mizuki.” Yuudai took off after her sister with Mizuki flat on her heals.
Sesshoumaru finally came to an abrupt halt and looked back to see his three traveling companions close behind. `Not as slow as I thought.'
The three mikos finally caught up with him and Yuudai and Aimi feel over onto the soft earth from exhaustion.
“Did you have to run so fast?” asked Yuudai.
“Yes.” Was her only answer.
“Fine. Next time wait a little or give us a warning before you take off.”
Sesshoumaru ignored her little command and looked at the surrounding forest. He walked toward a tree and jumped to the tallest branch, overlooking his surroundings.
Sesshoumaru stayed in that tree for the rest of the day until night came when he decided to go hunt for food. He, Sesshoumaru did not need the food but the three mikos who where traveling with him on his mercy were bound to get hungry and be too weak to travel come daybreak. He hunted down two rabbits and when he arrived back at camp, he saw that the mikos had already made a fire and were sitting around the flames talking amongst one another.
Once diner was finished and the fire was, extinguished Yuudai and Mizuki were fast asleep. Aimi, however decided to stay awake and try to get too know the inuyoukai a little better.
“Why do you not sleep? Are you not tired?” She asked. Sesshoumaru was once again perched on his tree branch on the highest level of the tree staring emotionlessly at the moon. He looked back down at the miko and then averted his gaze back to the silvery rock before answering. “I do not need sleep. It is not essential for me to sleep unlike a human such as you.” The way he said `human' with such a bitter tone aroused her curiosity.
“You do not like humans I can tell. But have heard that you have a hangout brother…..”
“HALF-BROTHER!” Sesshoumaru growled.
“My apologies. I can tell you are not very found of him either.” She giggled a little bit when Sesshoumaru snorted at her response and the continued to create a conversation.
“I am so excited that my sisters and I are able to travel to the great kingdom of the sea. It is something that many have tried to do and all were never heard from again. I do not know what lays ahead of us at the Kingdom by the Sea but I can be sure it will be easy to defeate.
“I have heard of the Kingdom by the Sea before but only in fairytail stories my mother told me when I was still a pup.”
“I can see that you are opening up a bit more to me now my lord.”
“Consider it a privallage and do not make me change my mind.”
“Alright, alright. I can see how you would hear of the Kingdom by the Sea through a fairytail because as time went by the prophesy of the sleeping princess became a legend and faded into nothing more than a bed time story. I only hope that the princess is safe in her castle of eternal sleep.”
“Can't the kiss of youkai reawaken her?”
“Yes, but it has been so hard to find a youkai with enough kindness to help a human.”
“That is a rare trait in a youkai. How long have you been searching for this youkai.”
Aimi knew that he was aware of her being one of the goddess of the story so held nothing back and threw it all out.
“It has been 500 hundered years since the princess was put into the realm of sleep and my sisters and I have been searching for 500 hundered years for the youkai of whom has anough kindness and love in his heart to awaken her from her deep slumber.” Sesshoumaru noticed the way she looked at him with hopeful eyes when see would talk about the youkai man from the prophesy and knew exactly where she was going with this.
“I, Sesshoumaru, am not interested in awaken a human princess that may not even be real. I will not help you save her.” He retorted with bitterness lacing his voice.
“I was not expecting you too. I only wish that you accompany my sisters and I too the castle and help ward off what evil has been placed within the vicinity of the kingdom.”
“That reminds me of another question I have been meaning to ask; If the kingdom does exist than why has no one seen it. I have been to the western see before and have never seen another kingdom.”
“I believe that as the kingdom slumbers a barier has been put up to protect the sleeping people inside.” Her voice soon became angry and bitter. “But some one has brokn through and the barrier grow s weak. Someone has tampered with my sisters work and I am frightened as to what might have happened to the princess inside.”
“Why do you seek to protect her?”
Aimi thought for a moment before an answer came to mind.
“She was a pure person and does not deserve such a fate. As a goddess I feel that it is my duty to protect her and help her pull through this.”
“Why do you care? If the princess dies that is not your fault. You put to much preasure on yourself.”
Aimi sighed long and hard. “I was indeed one of the goddess present at the celebration. I witnessed such a terrible thing and did nothing about it. The princess is in an eternal sleep because of my lack of a response to the dark goddess of the new moon. I am to blame for the princesses fate.”
“..”
“It was lucky indeed lucky that my sister was there to counter the curse. At least death was not her fate; only an eternal sleep.”
Sesshoumaru watched as she lowered herself to the ground underneath the tree that he was perched in. She looked toward the cresent moon in the sky and closed her eyes; a single tear falling from the corner of her closed eye.
She sniffled once and opened her eyes to revile a determined look with eyes like that of tiger storing straight at the youkai lord.
The look in her eyes seemed as if she were staring right through him; through his very soul.
“But I swear I will do whatever it takes to save her. Nothing will get in my way.”
“Hn..” Sesshoumaru made no comment on her sudden burst of honor. It was something that Sesshoumaru never related too. Honor was high in his family but to hi that meant he had to be tied down and do what he was told. He was a free spirit that did what he wanted to do; one of the reasons why he didn't go to the ball and find a mate.
“Goodnight.” He heard Aimi say as she walked to the campsite. She sat next to her sisters and leaned against the trunk of a tree as she fell asleep.
Sesshoumaru stayed up all night merey gazing at the moon that was a constant reminder of his rank and home; two things he wished he could escape from.
