Slipped Away

Kagome's eyes were red but no tears fell. She had none left. It had taken her nearly a year to cry them all away but it still felt like it had all happened yesterday.

Her ears were filled with the screams of her lover calling her name. She could do nothing now… She could do nothing then. Nothing to stop the pain, the suffering, the grief, the sorrow, the feelings engulfing her as she watched his life stripped and stolen. The expression of fear and disbelief on his face was too much to handle. And she hadn't even been able to say goodbye…

Her thoughts drifted away… She closed her eyes on the pillow, turning onto her side. She couldn't take reliving the nightmare one more night in a row… She slowly surrendered to the serenity of a dreamless sleep…

Her eyes snapped open. The nightmares had started again. They could wake her… Nothing could wake him… He was gone forever. She could not give in to the illusion that it was all a nightmare. He was gone. It wasn't fake.
