InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Snow Day ❯ Party Time ( Chapter 1 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
A/N: HAPPY HOLIDAYS OMG!! So, it had to be done. I'll update my other fics eventually, but… I dunno, I just haven't been motivated to write them. Whatever. With Christmas here, I'm in the mood for seasonal squish, and the inspiration fairy will not relent! I must obey!
Once again, Happy Holidays, and enjoy.
- Snow Day -
Kagome sat inside the warmth of Kaede's hut wrapped in a blanket with Shippo and peered out the door at the picturesque snow covered village. She sighed contentedly.
“It seems there is a blizzard on the way.” Sango spoke from beside the fire.
Kagome frowned. A blizzard would leave the villagers freezing, and trapped inside with limited resources. Without modern technology, it could be a problem.
Noticing her friend's concern, Sango continued. “Houshi-sama and Inuyasha are collecting extra firewood for the villagers now. I'm sure they'll be able to find something dry… and we can get Inuyasha to hunt for extra meat. Everything will be alright, Kagome-chan.”
Kagome smiled softly. “I know Sango, but I wish I could do more… I mean, I have so much at my disposal, and these people are so in need of it sometimes, but I can't just start bringing portable heaters and thermal underwear without explanation.”
“I have no idea what those things are.” Sango said with a slight smirk. “Regardless, you've done so much for us and the village already. Don't feel badly about one storm.”
“I guess…” Kagome sighed. “But they're used to my clothing, right?” She said, getting an idea.
Sango gave her a puzzling look.
“Well, sure, they think my modern clothes are strange, but they don't care too much anymore, right? So maybe I could bring back a few spare winter clothes for everyone! Maybe some extra blankets and the likes…”
“That's a good idea Kagome-chan! But the storm will probably be here by tonight so you wouldn't have much time to gather supplies.”
“And you said it's that Christmey thing tonight! We were gonna have a party!” Shippou found his way out of the mass of blanket to cling onto Kagome's arm desperately.
She smiled and looked down at the kit. “I'll be back by tonight to drop off the supplies, and I guess I'll be staying here for all of Christmas because the well would be snowed in by then… It's a shame I won't be able to spend the holidays with my family though.”
“You can stay with your family, Kagome-chan, we won't mind. After all, it's a more important event in your time than here. We'd understand.” Sango smiled warmly.
“Yeah, but I promised. I've spent every Christmas of my whole life with them. I think they can forgive my absence once. Besides, you guys are like family too.” Kagome smiled back.
“Yay!” Shippo cheered making the girls giggle.
“Well,” Kagome stood up. “I'd better go now! Can you tell everyone else where I am and why? Make sure Inuyasha knows that I'll be back tonight though. No one needs him freaking out to add to their problems.”

“Mama! I'm home! Do we have any spare winter things?” Kagome ran inside and went straight to the coat closet.
Mrs. Higurashi stepped around the corner to watch her daughter quizzically. “I think I have a bunch of old winter clothes somewhere, why?”
“Because there's a blizzard coming in the Sengoku Jidai and I want to help the villagers prepare. Any spare thermal blankets either?” Kagome said, slightly muffled by a pile of jackets and shoes.
Mrs. Higurashi smiled at her daughter's thoughtfulness. “I'll go search my closet. We can go out and get some of those emergency blankets too.”
“Perfect! I was just saying the same thing to Sango - Oh, jackpot! Scarves and hats!”
Mrs. Higurashi chuckled and went to rummage through her closet.
Kagome managed to pull some old jackets from the closet, even a few children's boots for the kids. After about half an hour of searching, and turning up a decent pile, the phone rang. Kagome grabbed it quickly and went back to sorting through old clothes.
“Moshi moshi.”
“Kagome is that you?!”
After cringing, she replied “Er, yes, so which one of you is this?”
“Yuka! I'm so glad you're out of the hospital for the holidays.”
Kagome shook her head at the comment about a hospital. “Um, yeah. So, Merry Christmas!”
“You too! Hey, you have to come to this party tonight! I know Houjou will be there, so it'll be an opportunity to trap him under the mistletoe!” The girl on the other end giggled.
Kagome winced at the thought. She didn't bother to analyze why she found the thought of kissing Houjou so repulsive. “I don't think I can make it.”
“You sound fine to me! C'mon, you need to get out of the house for a while and have some fun! It's Christmas! Have some fun! I'm forcing you, `kay? We'll come pick you up at 7.”
The phone clicked off.
Kagome contemplated calling back and refusing, but knew her friends wouldn't take it. She sighed.
“Do my friends call every two hours or something? They seem to always get me right when I come back. Usually to make plans I don't want to do.” She addressed her mother, who was coming down the stairs with another box of old clothes.
“They do call quite often. So where are they dragging you to now?”
“A Christmas Party.” Kagome sighed again.
“Well, at least it should be fun.” Her mother said.
“Yeah, but I need to get this stuff back by tonight, and I said I'd spend Christmas there this year.”
After a pause, Mrs. Higurashi answered. “Well, you can always go to the party for a while to satisfy your friends, then say you're tired and come home early. Considering they think you've been sick they'll let you go if you say you don't feel well. You can drop supplies off before hand then go back after the party.”
Kagome smiled. “That would work in theory, but Inuyasha will freak about be being gone and tear up the house waiting for me. Plus my friends are stubborn and don't know when to quit.”
“Which is why you should take what you can get. I'll deal with Inuyasha. We're stocked on ramen.”
Kagome laughed. “Thanks mama. I should go out and get some emergency stuff now. I'll be back in an hour at most!”
As she walked out the door, she felt a creeping feeling of dread.

Kagome shut the door behind her and collapsed against it. She dropped her shopping bags at her side and heaved an exhausted sigh.
Her mother walked up and helped with the bags. “Have fun dodging the last minute shoppers?” She asked with a grin.
Kagome groaned. “I didn't even know it was possible to have that many people in one area.”
Mrs. Higurashi laughed and started looking through the supplies. Most were mountain climbing and arctic emergency supplies. Some freeze dried foods, thermal blankets and the likes.
She pulled out a light blue hat with fuzzy ears on top of it. They looked just like Inuyasha's except for the slight colour change. Mrs. Higurashi raised an eyebrow at her daughter who shrugged and smiled sheepishly.
“I had to.” She said while blushing and put the hat aside.

After stuffing everything into some bags that Kagome could carry, she jumped into the well.
When she landed in the past she discovered a flaw in her plan.
“….Damnit!” She cursed quietly as she realized that it would be impossible to get all the supplies up the well in one shot.
With a sigh she started taking the bags up one at a time while pulling herself up the rope ladder with her free hand and feet.
Eventually she started on the road to the village. It took awhile to get to Kaede's hut with all her things, but she managed with difficulty. “Inuyasha? Miroku-sama? Sango-chan? Shippo-chan? Help?” she called from a short distance outside the hut after collapsing.
Sango, Miroku and Shippo came out to help her. Once everything was inside, Kagome noted Inuyasha's absence.
“He's still hunting. We're kinda working him to near exhaustion…” Miroku supplied.
Kagome giggled. “He must love that… especially since I actually brought survival food back for the villagers.” She pulled out some jerky.
“And no ramen?” Sango asked with a grin.
Kagome laughed and shook her head. “No room.” Her smile faded slightly. “I need to leave again.”
“Don't you have enough?” Miroku cocked his head.
Kagome cringed. “My friends are dragging me to a Christmas party and it would be rude to disappear on them… and I can't leave my mother with the task of explaining that to three extremely stubborn girls. Anyways, I'll be back later tonight, I promise. I have a plan to get away early. I'm still spending Christmas with you guys.” She smiled softly.
Shippo sighed whimsically. “I wish I could go with you and see a big party…!”
Kagome laughed. “I wish I could get out of it! I realized today how much I've gotten used to this time period. I feel so out of place in crowds. I end up getting annoyed at all the people pushing me that I feel like screaming at them! And of course it'll be that way tonight…” she sighed.
“Anyways, I should get going. I need to prepare for a chaotic night! Tell Inuyasha for me… again, make sure he knows I'll be back. I guess it's good that I missed him… he'd never let me go.” Kagome smiled weakly and headed out again.
The feeling of dread was back in full force.

Kagome finished her makeup and looked in the mirror. She had a pair of tight, light blue jeans, a snugly fitting black t-shirt with a heart pattern on it in some sort of glittery fabric paint, and a fitted beige jacket.
Her subtle brown eye shadow made her cerulean eyes stand out, and her lip-gloss made her look sexy, yet playful. She was happy with how she looked, but didn't want to go to the party. It was probably Yuka's earlier comment about kissing Houjou that unnerved her.
A car horn honked outside. She sighed - she seemed to be sighing a lot today - and made her way downstairs.
When she was about to leave, she saw the dog-ear hat hanging by the door. With a smirk she pulled it on over her straightened hair and walked up to Eri's car.
After awhile of driving, they arrived at the house of one of her classmates. It was a large place on the outskirts of town, and the perfect place to hold a large party.
Kagome cringed when she walked inside. There was blasting music, a crowd of people dancing in a cleared room, and the mild smell of alcohol. Possibly worst of all, there was a sprig of mistletoe hanging above her head. She noticed and quickly jumped out from under it.
Her friends pulled her over to a circle of guys, including Houjou.
“Higurashi!” He exclaimed upon seeing her. “I didn't know you were out of hospital! Are you sure you're alright to be at a party?”
“She's fine, right Kagome?” Yuka chimed in. “Why don't you two dance? We're gonna go find Ayumi's soon-to-be man-whore.”
Ayumi made a squeaking noise and ran after Yuka and Eri, leaving Kagome with Houjou.
“Well, shall we?” He said.
Kagome inwardly cringed. `Yes, this is why I was dreading tonight.'
Outwardly, though, she gave a weak smile. “Sure.” She knew she was backed into a corner.
Houjou grinned and put a hand on her hip, drawing her closer.
Kagome nearly jumped at how bold he had become. What happened to the awkward, clueless Houjou?
She inwardly groaned. `A now bold boy who insists on chasing me even though I obviously have no interest… and dancing with him no less. Tonight should be fun.'

“WHAT?!”
“You know more about her friends than we do, surely you realize Kagome was essentially trapped.”
The enraged Hanyou turned to Sango. “This is just a plot to get out of helping the village prepare and you know it.”
“Come now, Inuyasha, would Kagome really do that?”
`No.'
“Yes!”
Sango sighed and massaged her temple. “She lugged all this stuff up the well and to the hut. She basically collapsed from exhaustion because of it. How can you accuse her of trying to get out of helping?”
Inuyasha paused. “Keh! You still let her go!”
Sango made a noise akin to a growl. “Well if you're so mad then you go get her! We have work to do!”
“Fine!” Inuyasha yelled and took off out the door.
“…Oops.”
~-~-~-{{omg time jump omg}}-~-~-~
“KA-GO-ME!” Inuyasha jumped through the well and tore into the house.
“Kago-!” He sniffed the air. “Damn! She's not here!”
Mrs. Higurashi walked in. “She went to a party with her friends. She's planning to be back around 10. It should be time enough to get back before the weather gets too bad. Do you want to wait for her? I could make some ramen…”
Inuyasha stared at the woman. “Party? What?”
“Oh, a big group of people get together and eat, dance, socialize…”
“So, a festival?” He cocked his head.
Mrs. Higurashi smiled. “In a way. It's a lot more rowdy in this time though.”
“...Rowdy?” The hanyou scowled.
“Yes, many times at parties boys get aggressive around the girls and pressure them to do things… but Kagome's friends wouldn't let something like that happen, and Kagome herself wouldn't do such things.” She smiled.
Inuyasha looked slightly horrified. “I'm going after her.” He declared before charging towards the door.
“INUYASHA!” Mrs. Higurashi's yell stopped him. “At least change your clothes first.”
~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~ omg scene change omg ~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~
The song seemed to go on forever. Houjou had pulled her closer to him so that his arms were wrapped around her waist and her hands were resting on his chest.
When the tune finally ended, she pulled away. “I'm gonna get something to drink. Okay? I'll be back.”
“Sure, I'll come with you. I'm fairly thirsty myself.”
“NO! Um, no, that's ok, I'll get a cup for you. You just stay here and talk to your friends, ok?” She finished awkwardly and ran off towards the edge of the room.
Houjou shrugged off her odd behaviour and went back to his circle of friends in the corner.
Kagome got to the kitchen and found it more or less empty. She heaved a sigh of relief. The crowd was really getting to her. She poured herself some punch and took a sip.
She nearly choked.
“Careful, babe, pretty strong poison.” A gravelly voice spoke from behind her. She turned around to see one of the less savory of the school population leaning on the kitchen island.
She growled and slammed the cup onto the counter. “Just great.” She stormed back into the room and pushed through the crowd to get back to the door.
She thought she heard someone calling her name but ignored it. She really didn't care who wanted her to stay at this point.
As she got closer to the door, she noticed the voice was getting louder. Finally she saw who was calling.
“Inuya-?” She stopped when she saw his clothing. He was wearing modern clothes, however simple. Dark jeans and a tight red t-shirt, probably an old one of Souta's. He had a black bandana over his ears.
She mentally slapped herself from staring too long and remembered her anger. “What are you doing here? Why did you have to come get me? You knew I'd be back later tonight!”
She was actually glad for a reason to leave, but she needed someone to vent her frustrations on.
“Your mother told me things that happened at parties, and I couldn't just let you stay!”
Kagome paused. `It's sweet that he was concerned anyways…'
“Wait, how'd you find me? And where'd you get the clothes?”
Inuyasha blushed a bit. “Your mother got the clothes for me, and she gave me directions.”
Kagome made a mental note to prod her mother for information later.
She sighed. “Well, honestly, I'm glad to see you. I hate it here.” As if on cue, someone bumped into her roughly, pushing her closer to Inuyasha, who grabbed her shoulders to steady her.
“That'd be why.” Kagome said irritably.
“Kagome!”
Kagome groaned. “And that'd be another reason why.” She said exasperatedly and scanned the crowd to see Houjou making his way to her.
“Kagome, you were gone awhile so I came to find you.” He explained with a smile, and put his hand on her hip again, not noticing the growling hanyou.
“Don't fucking touch her!” Inuyasha pulled her to his chest.
Kagome relaxed slightly against Inuyasha. He'd save her from Houjou. …Provided she could stop him from killing Houjou.
The boy looked confused. “Who's this?”
“I'm the one getting her out of here.” He said simply and started pulling Kagome towards the door.
They were stopped by people blocking the way, but had moved enough to lose Houjou.
“Thank you, Inuyasha. I really didn't want to spend any more time with him. I don't like Houjou regularly, but somehow he got it in his head that he's allowed to touch me tonight. I don't know what happened to him, but I don't like it.”
Inuyasha growled and pulled her to his chest again, this time in a protective hug. “I'm not gonna let that baka touch you.”
Kagome was shocked. `What did my mother tell him, anyways?' She stroked his arm reassuringly. “I'm not going to do anything with Houjou. I wouldn't let him.”
“MISTLETOE!” Someone yelled out.
Kagome looked around, then up. Sure enough, her and Inuyasha were standing under the mistletoe. She bit her lip, knowing Inuyasha would freak out at her.
Instead she just grabbed his arm and dragged him out of the house and into the refreshing night air.
Inuyasha looked at her, puzzled. “What was that? That… mistletoe thing?”
“Um, nothing! Just a stupid tradition. Heh…” She tried to wave it off.
“Tradition? What's supposed to happen?”
“Nothing, really.” She was blushing now.
Inuyasha cocked his head. He reached out and grabbed her arm to stop her. “What's so bad about some plant? What does it make you do?”
Kagome sighed. She looked at the ground. “If two people are caught standing under the mistletoe, they're supposed to kiss.”
Inuyasha paused. “So… you left because you didn't want to kiss me?” He sounded almost hurt. Kagome looked up, shocked. She found the same hurt reflected on his face.
She shook her head. “It's not that, but… you didn't know the tradition or anything and it would have freaked you out or something…” she blushed harder and looked down again realizing that she basically admitted that she wanted to kiss him.
Another pause.
Kagome looked up again to try and get an idea of what he was thinking.
Then he leaned in and gave her a chaste kiss.
Kagome was stunned. Of all the things she expected him to do that was not one of them.
He pulled back, and she blinked a few times.
“We're not under the mistletoe.” She said eventually, smiling.
“Keh. Fuck the mistletoe.”
Kagome laughed and wrapped her arms around his chest. She sighed happily when he wrapped his arms around her and rested his chin on her head.
“Thank you for coming to get me, Inuyasha. Thanks for everything.”
