-“I can't believe it!” Inuyasha growled as he and Kagome walked through the deep snow. “I can't believe that that stupid demon escaped! “
Kagome was right behind him, sighing at his childish behavior. They were on the trail of a demon that escaped with a shard of the Shikon no Tama. They were fighting it until it managed to escape by poisoning Miroku, who was trying to absorb him with his Wind Tunnel. Now Miroku was out of danger, being supervised by Sango and Shippou, after Kagome gave him the antidote for the poison. Now, because Inuyasha wanted the shard, she was on the trail of the demon, with him in the lead. At first, she didn't want to come, knowing of her own state of health. She had been sick with the flu for a few days and didn't want her health to get worse, but Inuyasha took her forcefully on the search of the demon, in spite her protests.
She sighed again, seeing that his state didn't change.
-“Give it a rest, Inuyasha! We'll manage to get him! Stop acting so childish!”
-“We would have caught him if you shot at him with your damn arrow!”
-“I was helping Miroku! I had to give him the antidote for the demon's poison! You would have want Miroku to die?!”
Inuyasha said nothing and he puffed as he returned his attention to the trail in front of him.
-“Keh! Weak humans! If it wasn't for you, I would have all the Shikon shards! But you slow things every time with your needs of resting and illnesses!”
-“Well, excuse me! It's not my fault that I am a weak human instead of a powerful demon like you! If I'm such a slower, then go and find the shards yourself!”
She turned around to head back to the others, but a clawed hand grabbed her arm. She tried to get loose from his grip, but it was impossible, his strength being superior.
-“No way, wench! You've got to see where the shards are! Only you can do it!”
Anger built up in Kagome's eyes when she heard that. He really thought that she was just a “shard detector”! Inuyasha saw her face and let go, stepping back a little, thinking of what will come. But he saw her turn around and leaving. He reached for her.
-“Oi! Where do you think you're going?!”
-“Osuwari!”
Inuyasha fell face first in the ground, the snow unable to diminish the pain that followed. Growling, Inuyasha raised his head from the hole he made and tried to say something. But, before he could bark something, he saw the small rivers of tears that were streaming on Kagome's face. He knew that he had opened his big, fat mouth. Kagome tried as best as she could to hold her tears but, hearing Inuyasha saying such things, it was too painful. Inuyasha said nothing as he raised himself and continued his trail. Even she didn't like it, Kagome followed behind. She knew that she couldn't have a chance alone in this harsh weather. The snow began to fall even more and the cold became much unbearable. It was kind of weird because just yesterday, it had been bright and sunny with just a hint of chill in the air, as winter was still another month away. Yesterday afternoon rain had started to fall, then the temperature began to plummet overnight... and now it was snowing. They had witnessed the birth of an unseasonably harsh blizzard and now they were caught within it, unprotected and possibly lost.
Marching through the snow was the only thing that was keeping Kagome at least somewhat warm and alert. The coat she wore was much too thin to offer any real protection from the blistering wind. The occasional bouts of shivering or coughing fits were making it more and more difficult to keep up with Inuyasha, who appeared to be unaffected by the cold from as far as Kagome could tell.
Tracking him carefully, Kagome realized she was falling behind once again. Stubbornness energized her and she forced herself to move faster, hoping she would be able to keep up her pace long enough to close most of the distance between them.
After a couple of meters, harsh-sounding coughs racked Kagome's body, causing her to slow once again.
Now, she surely wished to be home, at the cozyness and comfort of her bed, and probably at the occasional warm bath. Oh, how she wished for a warm bath now! Her pounding head and her chest full of phlegm made her realize that she made a bad mistake coming with him. Before she came here, she took some flu medicine to relieve the symptoms, not wanting Inuyasha to know about the state of her health. The medicine had done its job, at least at first. She was breathing easier and her sinus headaches, congestion and dizziness had subsided... until now. Walking around in the snow was making her illness come back at full force and sapping her strength rapidly. She didn't know if she would be able to keep up with him for much longer, but she would be damned if she would ask him for help after what he said.
An exasperated sigh escaped her lips as she watched Inuyasha tread through the snow with such ease, the gap between them ever widening. Another coughing fit made her pause once again until it passed. Slowly, her head began to feel heavy and her world started to blurry. She steadied herself, trying to clear her head holding it with her hand. After the dizziness passed, a feeling of nausea came on her. She hoped that Inuyasha would not look back and see her. Focus slowly returned to her eyes as she felt her world come together again.
She took a few steps trying to follow the hanyou, but again, she started coughing again, bringing Inuyasha attention to her. The expression on his face was unreadable, but she thought that he was eyeing her critically and impatiently.
After all, it was her fault they had lost the shard.
She offered him a small smile, trying to sooth the anger within him and waved to him to continue walking. He turned his back to her, continuing his track.
Nausea came upon her again, as she felt her mouth water. She spit a couple of times, trying to get rid of the tase of her mouth that was making her gag. Unable to resist any longer, she fell on her knees and cleaned her stomach on the snow in front of her. Feeling the acidic taste in her mouth, she scooped a hand of clean snow and shoved it in her mouth, hoping that she would get rid of it. The cold fold her quickly. She tried to lift herself, but the dizzyness came upon her again. After a few hesitant steps, she paused trying to stop the whirl in her head. She looked for any signs of Inuyasha, but there wasn't even a tinge of red in the white peisaje. Her world became blurry as she felt that the cold overcome her.
-„...Inu...yasha...”
Her world darkened, as she fell, the cold whiteness engulfing her.
