Chapter 2: Arguments and Confessions (to himself)
Japan
Feudal Era, Prelude

Jan stood there, studying the group that they faced. The ones in the front were male - by what she could tell - and seemed to be ready for a fight. The one with the large, odd looking sword had silver hair and a red outfit. The other guy had a staff, but he acted like it wasn't his primary weapon. He appeared to be ready to take the covering off of his hand at a moment's notice, and Jan studied this hand. It had a faint aura around it, meaning it was magical.

The guy with the magic hand was wearing something akin to a dress, which Jan deduced meant he was some kind of priest or monk. His staff had a gold ornamentation near the top, with rings attached, also gold. He held the staff with the ease of being well aware and able to use it for defense.

Behind him was a woman - the one with the weapon Amelia had so wonderfully referred to as a giant boomerang looking thing. She was sporting a tight wrap skirt and a blouse that looked like it could be a wrap as well. She was standing in a posture that suggested she was about to throw her weapon.

Behind her, Jan could not see, but she could sense the aura of someone else. This someone was obviously strong in magics, but could not hide her aura when distressed. The aura was easy to read, saying that the person was familiar with magic, and used a low key spell often. It also suggested that he or she used mostly passive magic, as opposed to her companions' obvious preference.

Jan was getting uncomfortable with the tension between the two groups, and decided to speak up. “Hi there. Um, we're in a bit of a jam. Do you think you could help us?” Jan called to the intimidating group.

“Who are you and how did you get here?” called the silver haired one in reply.

“Call us tourists. My idiot cousin decided to mess with my stuff, and set of a travel spell I can't reverse.” Jan was willing to tell them any thing, as long as they didn't attack.

“Are you a priest?” This time, the speaker was the one with the staff. “You have an aura that speaks of magic.”

“I am not a priest. I'm not a guy! Besides, my chosen religion doesn't look to kindly on magic, so I couldn't be a priest if I wanted to.” She was upset by the accusation that she was a guy.

“If you're not a Priestess, then, you must be a demon!” Back to the silver haired one, who raised his sword and brought it slamming into the ground, yelling “Wind scar!”

Jan, being a magic user herself, recognized the invocation of a magic weapon ability. She pushed her cousins out of the way of the magical blast that tore through the ground towards them. They barely cleared it, and Maria's skirt was singed.

“Oh, you jackass!” Jan began to recite one of her first spells.
“Still as stone and hard as rock
Be still now and let me talk!”

The man froze, along with his companion. “Now, I know you can hear me, so listen up and listen well! I did nothing to your group except ask for your help, so you had no right to attack us! If you didn't want to help, you should have just said you couldn't help, and continued on your journey. If you attack strangers all willy-nilly, someone should - and will! - take that pretty little sword away from you until you learn responsibility! Now, I am seriously considering leaving you there, frozen, because you simply DO NOT go around chucking energy blasts as strong as that at people you don't know. I, and my cousins, are, as for as we are concerned, purely human and have no demon blood, ancestors, or acquaintances, so you can just go stick that sword and that `wind scar' attack of yours up your ass, and apologize while you're at it!”

With this lecture delivered Jan unfroze the two men, who promptly fell on their faces. The girls behind them were revealed, and all they did was gape at her.

The man in robes quickly recovered from his shock and recovered his feet. He approached her quickly, and went down on one knee. His companions adopted an exasperated look, but Jan didn't pay attention to it.

“My name is Miroku, dear lady, and I apologize for my companion Inuyasha's conduct. I assure you it will not happen again. I cannot believe that he would accuse a woman as beautiful as you would be a demon without just cause, but, then again, he is not the smartest of our group.” He looked at Jan, and she blushed a bit.

“Well, I should have anticipated something like that. I should be the one apologizing to you, Miroku. I didn't mean to freeze you.” Well, she had meant to, but that was beside the point.

“Not at all, not at all. It was my pleasure,” Miroku assured her. The man stood up, and said, “I must ask you something, though. Would you do me the honor of bearing my children?”

Now, Jan would have laughed at such a ridiculous request, especially from a guy like Miroku, if it hadn't been for the hand that accompanied it. This hand, which she would later find was notorious, was on her butt. As it was, she still pulled a bit when she punched him, but not much. He actually flew back as he fell.

“Never - Never! - touch my ass again!” Jan yelled at him. He shook his head to clear the spots from his eyes as Jan turned to his companions. “Does he always touch strange women's butts right after he meets them? Is this normal for him?”

“Unfortunately, he does. He doesn't seem to realize that it's rude. Though, you are the first to punch him for it,” the girl with the boomerang replied. Her voice was cheery, as though she was enjoying the fact Miroku had gotten slugged for touching Jan's rear. “My name's Sango, by the way, and these are Kagome, Kilala, and Shippo.” Kagome was the girl who had been hidden behind her companions; her outfit clashed with everything around the two groups; in fact, the only thing her outfit matched was what Jan and her cousins were wearing.

Shippo was a little boy who was hiding behind Kilala - a giant cat with fire on her tail - and trying not to be seen. He had bright red hair, a cute little outfit, and…

“Is that a tail?” Maria asked weakly.

“It would appear to be so, Maria. Don't you dare faint, you're the one who got us into this mess!” Jan rushed to Maria's side to catch the crumpling git.

“Lay her down and put her head between her knees!” said the other girl, Kagome.

“Yeah, thanks, I know the basics. This girl's all drama anyway. Wake up or I'll put my sock in your face, right under your nose!” Maria fairly jumped to her feet then, not wanting to be stuck with Jan's foot under her nose.

“You okay?” Kagome sounded worried, and Jan figured that it would be a good guess to peg her for a soft heart.

“Yeah, fine. A tail?” Maria looked as if she were about to faint again, and Jan bent down to tuck her pants into her boots. The `near to fainting' look disappeared quickly.

“She wouldn't have to be fine if she had just left my stuff alone. I told her not to touch any thing in my room, because I knew something like this would happen if she did.”

“Well, it never would have happened if you didn't keep putting our table in your room! In fact, it wouldn't have happened if you didn't even have this stuff in the first place!”

Amelia spoke angrily. She had turned on Jan as soon as she recovered herself from the shock of being in a different time than when she was used to.

“Not now, cuz. I don't need you playing mother again.”

“Yes, you do! I feel as if I am the only person in this family who has any vestibule of responsibility, or idea what that word means, an I am tired of having to play mother, but if I don't yell at you for this stuff, who will? You'll just go on doing things like this, messing with dark arts and screwing up our lives!”

“You are just upset because someone other than you took charge. You aren't the only person in the family who has a vestibule of responsibility, you're just the only one who wants to play mother whenever you think we need dressing down. And further more, your fashion sense sucks, and my magic has nothing to do with the dark arts. My magic is about the earth and spirit. Dark arts include blood rites and murder and sacrificing live things and summoning fourth plane demons. I have nothing to do with the dark arts other than the power stripping group who takes magic away from people like that, so stuff it. No one needs you to yell at them, especially now, so shut up and take a new place - on the sideline!” Okay, Jan wouldn't have yelled at her cousin, especially in front of strangers, except for the fact that she accused her of using the dark arts. Major insult there, people.

Amelia stepped back, speechless. This was the first time Jan had ever lost her temper around her - she knew she had a bad one, but had never experienced it. The first thing that came to her mind was a denial of Jan's accusations, but she bit it back, wondering if Jan was right. She sat down in the road, and thought about it.

Inuyasha, during this, had walked away from the group. He was in a tree, fuming, over what had happened. How dare she talk to me like that! How could she embarrass me like that in front of Kagome? And then the way Miroku acted - like I was a kid he needed to apologize for! And now Kagome is probably giving them my ramen; it's supposed to be my treat! Kagome always brings it for me, and now they're gonna get it instead. She's probably apologizing to them for my behavior - when I was just trying to protect her. She'll probably sit me if when I go back if I'm not nice to them… I hate it when she sits me… but I don't wanna be nice to them. Maybe if I apologized to them? I can't apologize! What should I do?

I wish I wasn't afraid to face Kagome; I hate it when she's disappointed with me. I should go back and apologize. If I apologize, I'll be weak… like Sesshomaru says I am.

Kagome won't think I'm weak though, and I want her happy.

I want to see Kagome smile…she's even more beautiful when she smiles…I wish she felt the same way about me as I do about her. She likes Koga, though. I can tell by how she talks about him like he'll stop Naraku single handedly.

She should just agree to be his mate, if she loves him so much!

She can't agree to be his mate. I'll die if she does. She should be mine!

Inuyasha growled. All of his thoughts just led him back to Kagome and Koga, as of late. He hated the thought that Koga might end up with Kagome, but…As long as she's happy, I won't ruin it. He thought of what had happened last time he had seen them together…Koga was holding her hand, and she laughed at one of his stupid jokes. He had kissed her hand and run off when he saw me… not right when he saw me, but waited long enough to get me mad. I hate it when he touches her - kisses her hand. I wish she loved me instead.

Suddenly, Inuyasha realized what he had been doing. He was trying to make himself mad enough to be rude to Kagome's new-found friends. If he was rude, she'd probably tell him to sit. The strangers would laugh. Kagome would ignore him, and probably run off with Koga as soon as he showed up…

“Inuyasha! Where are you? We're starting out again. Inuyasha?” Kagome looked up at him. “You okay? You seem a little unhappy.”

“I'm fine, Kagome. I was just waiting for you to stop kissing up to the strangers. I'll be down in a minute.” Inuyasha tried for a passive voice, but it sounded fake to him. Kagome didn't hear anything out of the ordinary, though.

“We're leaving now, Inuyasha. Come down.” Kagome was becoming impatient, but Inuyasha didn't care.

“I'll catch up with you. You guys are super slow, so it won't be any problem. Just go, if you want to leave now.”

Sit, Boy! Inuyasha came crashing to the ground. He could tell Kagome was ticked.

“Whaddya do that for?” Inuyasha knew what she did it for, but he wasn't gonna change the script now.

“You know very well what I did that for! Now, come on!”

Inuyasha followed Kagome, wishing he could make her smile.
