The y had fought again about the usual, but this time he had said something that had hit her heart like an arrow. She looked around at her companions that slept peacefully around the fire. Her hurt kept her from sleeping, but she kept her tears inside she did not want to face the cause of her heartache.
As she stared mindlessly into the fire the events of what happened earlier that day came back to her.
{Flashback}
"Damn it Kagome, why the in the hell can't you just do what I tell you?" an angry Inu Yasha yelled.
"I'm sorry Inu Yasha, I was just trying to help."
They had just got done fighting a demon for a shard, but this one was diffrent. This one was way more powerful than any they had fought before. Inu Yasha had sensed this and had told Kagome to stay back. But she couldn't just sit back and watch anymore when her hanyou love was thrown to the ground with a bad wound, even for him.
She had jumped up from her hiding spot, aimed her arrow, and let it fly. The demon saw the attack coming and dodged it easily, then turned on her to attack. Inu Yasha couldn't move fast enough to get to her in time. If it wasn't for Sango stepping in Kagome would have been hit and would have died. Inu Yasha finally managed to kill the demon after a long and hard battle.
"You are fucking useless wench, even Kikyou was more usefull then you. Gods, if you couldn't detect the shards I would have sent you home a long time ago and destroyed that damned well."
{End Flashback}
She could barely hold back her tears anymore, she felt as if her still beating heart was being ripped out of her chest. As hard as she tried she still couldn't wipe that memory from her mind.
'No, this time he has gone to far. I can't stay here anymore, even the others hadn't defended me.' She thought sadly as she pulled a notepad and pen out of her bag. She quickly wrote down a note bidding everyone farewell and to let them know she would not return.
~{Please, please forgive me,
But I won't be home again.
Maybe someday you'll have woke up,
And, barely conscious, you'll say to no one:
"Isn't something missing?"}~
She took a quick look around to make sure everyone was asleep. She took out the bottle containing the shards and placed them quietly down at the base of the tree Inu Yasha was sleeping in. With that done she grabbed her pack, picked a direction and started running.
She had ran for days only to stop for quick rests and to eat. It was late and once again she couldn't sleep. She looked up to the sky, somehow the stars had always seemed to sooth her. She noticed something flying in the air, with a closer look she realized what it was.
"Kikyou" she whispered. She got up and followed the miko's soul demons. After walking for a ways she heard two familar voices. She knew one was Kikyou but she couldn't quite make out the male voice. She scooted closer to the voices, peeking her head out barely above the bushes to get a better look.
What she saw caused her to hurt all over again. Just when she had thought it couldn't get any worse, she found out she was dead wrong. There in front of her was Kikyou in Inu Yasha's arms. She couldn't take her eyes away from the scene in front of her even though her heart screaming for her to turn and run.
~{You won't cry for my absence, I know -
You forgot me long ago.
Am I that unimportant...?
Am I so insignificant...?
Isn't something missing?
Isn't someone missing me? }~
The tears came freely now, she couldn't keep the sounds of her sobs from coming. Inu Yasha smelled her tears and he quickly turned his head in her direction.
"Kagome?"
She stood up, looked to Kikyou then to Inu Yasha, and with a quivering voice she spoke.
"I really am just a shard detector to you!" She turned her head to Kikyou, giving her a weak and faked smile.
"He wants you and you can have him. It is apparent that he has no interest in me but for his own personal gain. Good-bye Inu Yasha."
She turned and took off as fast as she could. She had tried to look strong, wether she did or not she did not know nor did she care anymore. She ran aimlessly until she felt safe that she was far away from him. She came upon a clearing with a single cherry tree in the middle. Slowly she walked up to the tree and sat down below it. Curling herself into a fetal position, Kagome let herself cry till she fell into a deep slumber.
She awoke to someone shaking her violently and screaming for her to wake up. Slowly she open her eyes.
"Finally, you decide to wake yourself wench." He stated rather cooly, his face showing no emotion. Kagome screamed and tried to free herself but she was too weak against Sesshoumaru. "There is no use strugling, this Sesshoumaru has plans for you and does not intend to let you escape."
Before she had a chance to reply her world went black. When she woke up again Sesshoumaru still held her captive and they were now in front of Inu Yasha and Kikyou. She heard the demon lord speak, and knew what she had to do
"Now, you will give me the sword, or I will kill this worthless human."
She knew that Inu Yasha did not love her and that she would always just be in his way. She made her decision, and she went to speak. "Inu Yasha don't, he will just kill me when he gets the sword anyway. Besides, like you said I am useless and you have Kikyou to find the shards now."
~{Even though I'd be sacrificed,
You won't try for me, not now.
Though I'd die to know you love me,
I'm all alone.
Isn't someone missing me?}~
Inu Yasha went to speak, but Kagome interrupted him before he could. "Please, don't saying anything, I know how you hurt when you are not with Kikyou. This is for the better, trust me."
~{Please, please forgive me,
But I won't be home again.
I know what you do to yourself,
Shudder deep and cry out:
"Isn't something missing?
Isn't someone missing me?"
Even though I'd be sacrificed,
You won't try for me, not now.
Though I'd die to know you love me,
I'm all alone.
Isn't someone missing me?}~
She smiled the best she could while crying, "I love you Inu Yasha."
She grabbed Sesshoumaru's hand quickly, him being to shocked by her sudden outburt to do anything, and thrust it deep within her chest. She screamed in pain, then went silent. She could faintly hear the sounds of her friends' crys and screams, she opened her eyes. She was dying, her body was going numb with shock. Inu Yasha just stood there with a blank stare.
'He doesn't even care now. I really am insignificant.'
~{And if I bleed, I'll bleed,
Knowing you don't care.
And if I sleep just to dream of you
And wake without you there,
Isn't something missing?
Isn't something...
Even though I'd be sacrificed,
You won't try for me, not now.
Though I'd die to know you love me,
I'm all alone.
Isn't someone missing me?}~
The sounds around her slowly faded and her vision went black, her body falling into a lifeless heap at Sesshoumaru's feet. Inu Yasha ran up to her, now crying.
"No Kagome, I haven't told you yet. You can't leave! I love you too Kagome!"
Inu Yasha felt a hand on his shoulder, looking up he found himself looking at his brother.
"I am sorry Inu Yasha."
Sesshoumaru bowed his head, turned and dissapeared into the tree line.
