Chapter Two ~ Questions

“Rin?” Sesshomaru said softly, noticing the look of slight confusion on her face.

“Are you in a pain at all InuYasha?” She asked him and InuYasha shook his head.

“No, not for a while now.” He replied quietly. His body ached and he was exhausted.

“What does that mean?” Sesshomaru snapped, angry at his own ignorance of the situation.

“It means it was a false alarm. The baby will not be born tonight.” Rin replied gently, handing InuYasha his clothing. “You had best keep yourself warm Lord InuYasha.”

Sesshomaru grew impatient. “Then we leave, come now Rin.”

“But my Lord.”

“Now Rin.”

Rin sighed. “Yes my Lord.”

InuYasha watched helplessly as the two of them left. He went about quickly dressing and weakly began again and trying to light a fire but to no avail. He pulled his robes tightly around himself and curled up against a tree, but it was cold, and he had nothing to shelter him against it.

InuYasha glanced down at his stomach. “Sometimes I wish I could trade places with you.” He said allowed. “It must be warmer in there than it is out here.”

InuYasha jumped as he realized he was not alone. He struggled into a sitting position and looked up. “What…” He started but he wasn't given the opportunity to finish.

“There are other demons nearby.” Sesshomaru said, not looking at his brother. “I made the mistake of telling Rin as such. She's worried.” He finished, looking round and fixing his eyes on InuYasha's.

“I can take care of myself.” InuYasha said stubbornly.

“Be that as it may, Rin will not forgive me if I do not take you back with me now get up.” InuYasha stared angrily at Sesshomaru but he faltered as Sesshomaru extended his hand. “Come on.”

InuYasha blushed. “It's not as easy as that to get up when you're like this you know.”

Sesshomaru rolled his eyes and crouched down beside InuYasha. “Well put your arm around me then.” He said softly, putting his own arm around InuYasha's waist. InuYasha obliged and Sesshomaru lifted him easily to his feet. “Come on, it isn't far.”

After a few minutes of walking, Sesshomaru paused to look back over his shoulder. “InuYasha?”

“I'm tired.” He said shortly, growing more and more irritated that he was showing so many signs of weakness before his brother.

“We're almost there.” Sesshomaru replied and walked on; glancing back occasionally to make sure InuYasha was still behind him. He pulled back branches of a tree and InuYasha walked through. There was a large blazing fire and Rin stood swiftly, running to greet them.

“I'm so glad you came, I was worried.” She said quickly, grabbing InuYasha's hands and pulling him toward the fire. “You should sleep there, the trees will protect you from the cold and you'll be close to us both so we can take care of you.”

“I really don't need you to…” InuYasha started but he thought better of it. “Thanks Rin.” He murmured.
“Come on Lord InuYasha, you need to rest.” Rin said, ushering InuYasha into place and helping him lower himself to the ground.

As nervous as he was over his company, InuYasha fell asleep almost instantly, as did Rin, leaving Sesshomaru kneeling by the fire watching over them. No more than a few hours later the fire died down and with no sign of danger Sesshomaru settled down also. He glanced at InuYasha and frowned. InuYasha was shivering.

Sesshomaru rolled his eyes again, only InuYasha could feel the cold in such a sheltered area. He pulled off his armour and removed his upper robes, cloaking InuYasha with them and the shivering soon stopped. He lay down close by and closed his eyes but soon woke again. He looked down and found InuYasha curled against his chest, his stomach pressed again his own.

Sesshomaru didn't sleep at all for the rest of the night. His curiosity got the better of him and he was glad he was a dog demon and not a cat. He just lay there and allowed the gentle thuds and bumps to transfer from InuYasha's body to his own. What a feeling it must be, he thought, to have something inside of you.

InuYasha stirred and Sesshomaru backed away from him. He watched until he was sure that the hanou was still asleep before settling himself back against a tree and finally closing his eyes.

InuYasha woke a few hours later and sat up, looking around. `Where am I?' He wondered sleepily before his eyes fell on Rin sleeping next to him. `Oh yeah…' He looked over his shoulder and saw Sesshomaru sleeping against the tree. He had never seen his brother looking so peaceful, so at ease.

Rin tugged his sleeve and InuYasha jumped a little. “He must be exhausted.” She mused, glancing at him.

“As strange as it sounds to say it aloud, I didn't think Sesshomaru slept.”

“It's not a strange thought really, usually he falls asleep after me and wakes up well before, if he sleeps at all. Like I said, he must be exhausted if we're up before he is.” She looked back to InuYasha. “How are you feeling this morning anyway?”

“Filthy.” He said flatly. “I'm gonna go and wash up.”

Rin smiled. “Alright, but make sure you don't go far, and you call out for us if you need to. Loudly.” She added. “I'm going back to sleep for a while, he'll only get wound up if he thinks I woke before him.”

InuYasha smiled and wandered off to the stream, discarding his clothes quickly and wandering into the water, settling himself into a sitting position with his lower body just under the water. He swept the water up onto his stomach and smiled to himself.

Sesshomaru woke with a start. The sun was up already. He looked round and saw Rin sleeping peacefully beside the burnt out fire and he relaxed back again. At least she hadn't seen him sleeping. He stood and smelt the air, searching for the whereabouts of his brother and followed his nose to the water.

InuYasha turned sharply and glared at Sesshomaru, throwing his wet hair over his shoulder. Although he knew he should look away, he paused to take in his younger brother's muscled arms and upper body. InuYasha's face contorted with anger. “Didn't you're mother teach you any manors at all?” He spat.

Sesshomaru glared in turn. “Never mention my mother you filthy hanou.” He turned and started back toward the camp.

InuYasha's face dropped. “Wait.” He called out and Sesshomaru stopped, looking back over his shoulder InuYasha and almost smiled as he saw InuYasha blush and his ears wilt a little. “I'm sorry.”

Sesshomaru was a little taken back; he hadn't expected InuYasha to apologise. Sesshomaru snapped himself out of it, bringing on his usual spiteful personality. “Hormones.” He said drawlingly, rolling his eyes.

“No.” InuYasha shouted, sounding a little hurt at the implication. “I have no right to speak ill of the dead… I am sorry.”

Sesshomaru turned back and walked down to the edge of the water extending a hand to InuYasha. “Come on, surly you're hungry.”

InuYasha hadn't even thought about it, but now that Sesshomaru had mentioned it, he was hungry. He stared at Sesshomaru's hand and smirked. “I thought we did this already?”

Remembering the previous night, Sesshomaru dropped down and put his arm round InuYasha, helping him up. InuYasha grabbed his clothes and dressed quickly, though he need not have worried; Sesshomaru looked away until InuYasha walked up next to him.

They walked a little way back into the forest in silence. Sesshomaru's thoughts were interrupted as InuYasha broke the silence. “Why?”

“Why what?”

“Why did you come back for me? Why didn't you just leave me? Why did you come to me in the first place?”

Sesshomaru raised a delicate eyebrow. “If it's questions then I get to go first. Whose child are you carrying?”
