The group had been traveling for the past week towards the North West, because that was the closest that Kagome could feel the Jewel that Naraku had. She hadn't said very much the whole time and everyone noticed except Inuyasha, he had felt guilty for Kagome knowing that he was seeing Kikyo again and he didn't know what to do to make it up to her. He had tried everything that he could think imaginable to get her to smile.
What he didn't know was that she was upset with him; she was upset with her own self, because she wasn't strong enough to defend her own self. She had taken to practicing and learning from Sango however, that wasn't enough. She was proficient in sword play however she was lacking in the priestess department. She could only learn so much from Kaede and Miroku, that it was frustrating. So she was teaching herself as she went along. As it were, she was running out of ideas to try and teach herself. So to make up for it she was trying to teach Shippo.
Shippo was currently resting in Kagome's arms; he had been practicing so much to make Kagome proud of him. Even now he was still practicing, everyone thought that he was asleep but in actuality he was practicing gathering his youki and manipulating plants. He didn't want Kagome to fall so he was trying his hardest to have the trees move their roots out of the way. It was working to a certain extent because he could feel the trees move their roots, and they would move into the monks' way. He should know because he could hear him cursing silently under his breadth every time he stumbled on a new root. However he was running low on energy and would need to replenish soon.
Kistune's by nature were emotional creatures and needed emotions to live. They feed off of others emotions so that they could understand what that person was feeling and so that they could survive. Every night he would feed from Kagome, when she was sleeping, it wasn't much but it was slowly starting to take its toll on her, and she would soon notice the affects. He would have to feed from someone else tonight. He would just have to do it when they weren't awake; it was easier on him if he did. That way he wouldn't have to answer the unnecessary questions that came along with doing that. For now though a nap sounded nice. Snuggling into the warmth that was Kagome Shippo soon fell into a deep slumber.
Miroku, our perverted monk, was cursing at yet another random tree root that seemed to have moved into his path unnoticed by the others. He only knew of one youkai that could do this kind of magic, however, where he learned such a technique was the question. Shippo was many things and smart was on the top of that list, yet this was something that you had to be around other kitsune's to develop to the point that Shippo seemed to be excelling at. He wondered sometimes if the kit was making his appearance seem younger than he was really letting onto.
His hand twitched though as he noticed that the object of his affection was walking right beside him as if he didn't grope her every day. Things were peaceful, as though a storm were brewing in the horizon. They only had a few more shards to gather as their quest was coming to an end. The battle with Naraku would be here in a few days maybe a week at most. They were headed towards his palace and things would be fine. They had to win, because each of them had something that they needed to live for.
Kagome had been nearly inseparable from Shippo or Sango since the day that Inuyasha met Kikyo in front of the Goshin-boko. She did not waste time in yelling at him because it would be pointless, he never understood anyway. All she wanted for him was for him to be happy. Was that too much to ask for? But he never seemed to get it. So lost in thought was she that she didn't realize that everyone had stopped and was staring at her. She had been muttering to herself for the past few minutes and it was starting to worry them. It was slightly disconcerting to her when she did take notice that they were staring at her with worry on their faces.
Shippo was now awake and trying to get her attention. He wanted to be let down so that he could go and use the bushes. Noticing that he was still tired from his little nap she let him down and then looked around where they had stopped. Thinking to herself that this was a good a place to stop as any other she sat down. Waiting for Shippo to return she sat down and made herself comfortable. They had been walking all day and it was starting to take its toll on her feet. Slowly she removed the slippers that she was wearing and massaged her feet.
She had taken to wearing the more traditional fighting garb of this era so that she didn't stick out like a sore thumb. That and all of her clothes were ripped from her time, so she had to get some new ones. They hadn't been to Kaede's in a little over a month. So she hadn't gone home recently to restock her supplies. So she was a little low on everything, even ramen, however Inuyasha didn't want to go back, this was the first time that they had been able to feel Naraku's shards, and he didn't want the trail to go cold.
“So half-breed, why are you traveling in this Sesshoumaru's territory? I thought that you would hold some brains, but apparently I am mistaken. Do you wish to die this night?” Came the cold voice from what seemed like nowhere and everywhere at the same time.
“Shut up bastard, what have nothing better to do than taunt me?” Inuyasha said, his hackles rising.
“The last time I checked I was not the bastard. Your mother had you out of wedlock with my father, and when he did mate her, you had already been born. Therefore you are the bastard. As it were, this Sesshoumaru did not come here to speak with a worthless being like you. I am here to speak to the Miko.” He said as he walked into the camp. His hair billowing out behind him making him look all the more gorgeous.
“Sesshoumaru-Sama, to what do I owe the pleasure?” Kagome spoke in cool tones. Her upper body facing the ground as she bowed to the western lord, as his station required. She would be polite to him, even though he had tried to kill her. She was a forgiving creature by nature and he hadn't tried to harm her yet. However she was prepared for when and if he did try to attack her.
