Chapter 3: Whispers In The Night
“Well done Kagome. Remember to keep your shoulders straight.” Kagome shot another arrow at the target which was one of the trees in the forest near the Sunset shrine.
“Hai, Lady Kaede.” She smiled at the short old woman who wore old fashioned clothing and a black patch over one eye. Kaede had been giving Kagome archery lessons for three years. It was funny because she just came out of the blue one day and asked Kagome if she would like to learn. Now she would go to Kaede's once a week. Kaede had recently been trying to teach her how to harness the energy inside of her to shoot purity arrows instead of regular ones. At first she thought she was joking and decided to humor her, but lately she had been seeing a faint pink glow coming from her arrows. She also found that she became tired if she practiced shooting the for too long. Kaede said that she had much more power than she was using and that with time, she would be able to fire more powerful arrows without even feeling it.
“Alright. Ye may stop now.” She took the bow and quiver from Kagome. “Before ye leave, come inside. There's something I want ye to have.”
Kagome wiped the sweat from her brow then followed Kaede inside the small hut, where she handed Kagome a rosary with blue beads.
Kagome gasped. It felt warm. “What is this? Some kind of magical necklace?” She asked jokingly.” `I appreciate the gesture, but it doesn't exactly match anything I have.'
Kaede nodded. “Very good, child. Yes, it is magical.”
`Her and grandpa would go great together.' Kagome thought, resisting the urge to roll her eyes. “Um, What does it do?”
“That, child, ye will find out for yerself, and very soon, I hope. Now go.” She shooed Kagome out the door. “Take very good care of that now.” She said wagging her finger. "A friend of mine told me to give it to ye."
“Really? Who?” She asked her walking down the path, but Kaede had already gone inside. `A magic necklace. Great.' She thought sarcastically.

“BUT INUYASHA!”
“I told you, Kikyo. It's over!” Inuyasha said walking away.
“But Inu-baby, I love you.” She said crying.
He turned around. “You love me!? Don't try to pull that crap on me, Kikyo! You're just mad because you couldn't break up with me first!” He pushed her. “That's what you wanted to do. Isn't it Kikyo! Isn't it?”
“That's not true!”
“I can't believe it. Tricked by the same girl twice. How stupid can I get?” He mumbled.
Kikyo fell to her knees and cried.
Inuyasha smirked. He had to applaud her for being such a good actor. “Well it doesn't matter anyway because I'm already with someone else.” He began to walk away again.
“Inuyasha.” Kikyo called in a small voice. “INUYASHA!” she called louder after him.
He stopped walking but still didn't face her because he had tears in his eyes. “What?”
“Who? Who did you replace me with?” She asked softly.
He said the first name that came into his head. “Kagome.” And with that, he walked away.
Kikyo dropped her act. `That bitch is going to pay for wrecking my plans.'

“Kagome! Dinner's almost ready. Come inside!” Ms. Higurashi called from inside the house.
“Hai, I'll be there in a minute.” She called back. She had been trying to put more of her energy into her arrows. She ran inside where she saw Sota setting the table. It was her job tonight. `Whoops.' “Hey Sota.” She walked up the stairs.
He only responded with a feh and sat at the table with his arms crossed.
“That was odd.” Deciding to shower later, she put on a tight red tank top and baggy gray sweatpants. If she didn't know any better, she could swear he had been imitating Inuyasha. “Nah.” She said with a shake of her head and went downstairs to eat dinner.
For a while, they just ate in silence before Kagome broke it. “Mama. Where's grandpa?”
“I imagine he's out on the town with his friends.” Her mom answered.
Kagome sighed. This was the reason she didn't go to nightclubs like her friends did. The risk of running into her grandfather and having him embarrass her in front of her friends was too high. `Especially with his stories.' She thought with another sigh.
There was another awkward silence.
“Kagome dear, Can you wash the dishes tonight?” Her mom asked her.
“Yeah, since I had to set the table cause you just had to practice.” Sota glared at Kagome.
Kagome stuck her tongue out at her bratty little brother.
Sota filled his mouth up with rice and showed it to Kagome, half-chewed.
“Mama. Look at what Sota's doing.”
Ms. Higurashi sighed. "Sota. Go do your homework so that Kagome can do the dishes."
“But-” Sota began to protest, but stopped at Ms. Higurashi's glare.
“Feh. Fine. But if she gets clumsy and drops them, it's not my fault.” He said and stomped upstairs.
Kagome sighed and picked up a dishtowel. “So much like Inuyasha.”
“He is. Isn't he?” Ms. Higurashi said and ascended the stairs.
“What did you say, mama?” Kagome almost dropped the dish she was holding. `Maybe Sota and Inuyasha are right. I am clumsy.'
“Nani? Oh. I just said goodnight, Kagome.”
“Oh.” She could have sworn her mom said something about Inuyasha, but she just shrugged it off. She quickly finished the dishes without breaking any and dragged herself upstairs and into bed. `Geez. Purity arrows and dishes rewally take a toll on you after a while.'

“Kagome.” A voice whispered.
Sota. Is that you?” She answered back.
“Kagome.” It whispered again.
She followed the voice downstairs. “Is that coming from outside?” She stepped outside and shivered in the cool night air.
“Kagome.”
It sounds like it's coming from the tree.” She walked over to Goshinboku. “The tree's talking?” She touched the tree like she had done so many times before.
The whispering stopped and the wind picked up speed. She jumped back from the tree as the sky turned to daylight. “But it's the middle of the night.” She said, a little weirded out. Turning back to the tree, she gasped as she saw a boy with silver hair sleeping on the tree? She then noticed that there was a large vine wrapped around his torso and an arrow protruding from his chest. Then she saw the dog ears. "Awww. Kawaii. I have to touch them." As she went to rub his ears she noticed something. “Inuyasha?” She saw it now. Without the dog ears and the and the weird clothes. “Eww. Mental Picture...Actually the mental picture isn't so bad.” She blushed. “Ick. This is Inuyasha-Cocky-Jerk-But-Still-So-Cute-Taisho we're talking about. That little arrogant bandana wearing prick. But still, he can't be comfortable.” She reached to grab the arrow...

And Shay decides to stop the chapter there. Hehehe. That's what you get for not reviewing. :malicious laughter ensues:
