Somewhere Out There
Chapter 3: And So It Begins
June 24 2004
you're taught through feelings
flying high above
I know is that you can realize it
who cares as it turns around
I know that it decends down on me

It's just another day the shame is gone

Hard to believe
I've let it go
can't replace my life
shadows of my past
alive ~*

It was Saturday night and Kagome was not looking forward to working. It was teenage night again and she was praying to every Kami that Inuyasha didn't show up. Kagome finished serving a very disgruntled regular, whose wife was determined to get him home in one piece, when a soft clang on the door signaled another customer. She inwardly sighed and walked back behind the bar.

"Hello Kagome." the smooth voice stated.

Kagome looked up from behind the bar into the violet eyes of Sesshomaru. "Hey."

"I should get to the point, I can see you are busy." Kagome smiled and nodded her head slightly. "I am going to New York with my brother on Monday, would you like to go to the movies with me tomorrow after graduation?"

"I would love to. If you want we could mee-"

"Waitress! Get that cute ass over here and pour me another drink!"

Kagome growled deeply before continuing to talk with Sesshomaru, "Meet, at the theater, or after the ceremony?"

"It would be just as easy to find each other after graduation."

         "WAITRESS!"

"Coming." Kagome said as sweetly as she could muster. "I am sorry I have to get back to work. I'll see you tomorrow?"

         "Indeed."
§¤*~ - Meanwhile -

"Inuyasha." his mother began for the third time that night.

"Just spill it Mom." his patience was growing thin.

"Okay. I wanted Sesshomaru to be here for this but-"

"I am here." Sesshomaru entered the living-room and sat down beside his step-mother.

"Wonderful." she grasped his hand in hers and began again. "Now, Inuyasha, your brother is . . . and your father is . . . "

"I will tell the boy." Inuyasha, patience even thinner, looked to see his Father, back from business.

         "Inutaishou."

"Inuyasha. Son, I am a demon. Your brother is also a demon. You are a half-demon, having Nahori as your human mother. It is as simple as that." Inuyasha looked at his Father curiously. He then elaborated, "You feel . . . something is missing, don't you? You feel as though you can sense more things than most humans? It is your demon instincts boy." He walked completely into the room and sat next to his wife, who was very glad she didn't have to explain this to her son.

"Demon? Are you guys severely unhinged?"

         "Inuyasha!" his Father scolded.

         "Sorry Sir, but Geez, Demon?"

"Yes, observe." his Father stood back up and transformed into his demon self, a full dog Youkai. Inuyasha gazed in disbelief at his father. An odd growl and a small whimper sound cause Sesshomaru to nod and stand up, also transforming into the dog Youkai much like his father. Inuyasha saw them, and heard the low growls and whimpers, and somehow understood that his father had said 'Transform too Son'.

"You see Inuyasha. And you are a half-demon because of your fathers blood. We keep a concealing charm on you, so that you aren't, discriminated." Nahori explained.

"Do I have a demonic form?" Inuyasha asked.

"You have a hanyou form. Your demonic form would probably not be a full form like ours." his father explained, having turned back into the human Inuyasha was familiar with, and sitting once again. Sesshomaru was already sitting and paying close attention.

         "Can I see?"

"Of course son. Simply say this:" a few more growls and whimpers followed and Inuyasha repeated them with ease.

"Look in the mirror." Inutaishou instructed. Inuyasha did as he was told.

He looked in the mirror to see someone he had never seen before. He had long silver hair, it seemed to be longer than his midnight black hair. He had furry, triangular shaped dog ears, which sat comfortably atop his head. His eyes were the same vibrant amber they always had been. He smiled at his new appearance and noticed he had fangs, this caused him to smile wider. Suddenly, Inuyasha felt complete. Like something had been missing his whole life, something he didn't know he missed, but it was back.

"Thanks." he turned back around to see his family looking at him happily. "Thanks for showing me my true self."

"Of course son. But you must understand, with this new knowledge you must understand your responsibilities."

; "What do you mean Father?"

"Well, you must understand all about demon ways. From our daily concealing spells, to our more complex mating rituals. Et cetera."

"I don't know any of that."

"That is my point. We have much to discuss."

"I am ready to learn." he sat on the edge of the love-seat, waiting for the knowledge of his heritage.

"Well son, the daily concealing spell is very simple, just repeat the earlier incantation every morning before stepping outside. The mating rituals, as I stated, are complex. You do know what mating is right?"

         "Duh." was the teens response.

"Well, when you choose a mate, you choose for life. Please, do not choose randomly. Be sure to be completely in love, give your whole self to your mate. She should also return her whole self to you. If you decide to mate with a human, explain what she is going to go through by mating with you. It isn't as simple as getting married and then divorced, it is much more spiritual and far more complex. No one can stop you from mating with whomever you choose, but for the love of all the Kami, please don't pick Kikyou."

"I agree." Sesshomaru added. Nahori nodded too.

"What?" Inuyasha stood up, outraged "When did this explanation of mating turn into an onslaught of Kikyou hating?"

"Son, I just think you should find someone who loves you . . . more . . . deeply than Kikyou."

"I'll mate with whoever I want to." Inuyasha sat back down.

         "Whomever." Sesshomaru corrected.

Inuyasha growled and stood up once more, preparing to go to his room. "Whatever." He would never have decided to be Kikyou's life-mate, but the fact that his whole family hated her, made him very upset.

&n bsp;  "Kagome, I must tell you . . . you are very beautiful."

"Aww, Sesshomaru." Kagome blushed awkwardly, "Thanks."  a brief silence occurred between them before Kagome spoke again, "So, why are you going to New York?"

"My brother is looking at colleges."

"Is your brother Inuyasha?" Kagome asked, finally having an opportunity.

         "Yes. Half-brother."

         "Oh."

"Most people have that reaction." Sesshomaru joked. "He is slightly arrogant."

"That is the understatement of the year."

"And why do you dislike him so?"

"A few reasons. Mainly cause he thinks that he 'rules the school' and he can get away with anything."

"Hai, he has a problem with that." Kagome nodded, taking a sip of her milkshake.

The movie had been an okay one about a Princess who was kidnapped and fell in love with her 'napper'. After the movie they had walked around the park for a few hours until Sesshomaru became hungry, so they went to WacDonalds to get something to eat. Kagome wasn't hungry so she got a milkshake while Sesshomaru ate his burger and fries.

"I am sorry to have to leave so soon, but I have to pack still and we are leaving at six thirty." Sesshomaru apologized.

"No problem. I didn't know Inuyasha woke up before noon."

"He doesn't." Sesshomaru smiled. Kagome noticed he never really had expressions, except a few brief smiles or chuckles here and there. She liked his smile, and it was fun trying to get one out of him. "Shall I walk you home?"

         "That would be lovely."

The town was so close to both their houses, and the school that driving would be pointless, especially in the summer, traffic. The day was warm, and bright, a perfect day to be lounging around outside. Kagome led Sesshomaru to the bars' front door and turned to thank him.

"I had a lot of fun . . . maybe, if you want, we can hang out when you get back from New York." Kagome smiled shyly.

"That would be splendid. Shall I call you upon my return?"

         "Sounds like a plan."

"Great." Sesshomaru hesitantly leaned down and brushed his lips against Kagome's. He pulled back quickly, waiting to see her reaction, she brought her hand up to his neck and gently guided him back down to her. He kissed her openly, fully experiencing her luscious lips and savory taste.

"Well . . . " Kagome said, pulling away for air.

"I'll call you when we get back."

         "Please do."

"Good Bye Kagome." Sesshomaru kissed her hand before turning away and walking down the street. Kagome watched him as he tripped on the curb and almost fell over. She suppressed a giggle and walked into the apartment.
§¤*~ Thursday

Thirty minutes . . . you can do it Inuyasha . . . thirty minutes . . . four more exits and a few minutes of traffic and you can avoid him the rest of the summer . . . thirty minutes.

"Inuyasha, stop changing the radio station, and for the love of all the Kami would you please get your feet off the dashboard." Sesshomaru scolded from the drivers seat.

         Thirty minutes . . . twenty nine . . . twenty nine minutes . . .

The black Saab finally came to a halt outside the three story house that Inuyasha called home. He smiled to himself and practically flew out of the car. Three days alone with Sesshomaru was the worst punishment Inuyasha could think of. Especially when a total of eighteen of those seventy-two hours was stuck in a car next to him, listening to his music.

"Where are you going in such a hurry?"

         "To call Kikyou."

"Of course," Sesshomaru rolled his eyes, "Well at least take in a bag or two!"

"Whatever." Inuyasha jogged back to the car and grabbed both duffels and the bag of stuff he had purchased while in New York. He carried them easily into the house, tossing Sesshomaru's duffle and purchases on the couch, and carrying his items up to his room.

He threw the duffle in the corner and the souvenirs on his bed before grabbing his personal phone and pushing his speed dial for Kikyou's cell phone. It rang three times before she picked up, the familiar sound of her voice brought a smile to the hanyou's face.

         "Hey Baby. I missed you."

"Not now Inuyasha, I have to get back to work, I'm on break."

"Fine. Want to hang out tonight?"

"I can't. We are going to be together all weekend, isn't that enough?"

         "Never."

"I have to go my boss is calling me."

         "All right, call me later?"

         "Sure."

"Bye." Kikyou hung up the phone without responding. Inuyasha clicked 'off' on the cordless phone and tossed it to the foot of his bed. Laying down on the bed he stared up at the ceiling, watching the shadows of the trees swaying back and forth on his walls.

The room suddenly went dark and thunder was heard from outside the window. Inuyasha sighed slightly, he was just going to call Miroku and see if he wanted to go to the beach. Instead, he decided to just hang out with him somewhere else. He still hadn't told him about being a demon, he didn't know how Miroku would respond. He knew that they were best friends, but it wasn't something he had had to deal with before.

         "Where are you going Sesshomaru?"

"Kagome and I are going to dinner Mom." even though she wasn't techincally his mother, he still looked out for her and cared about her very much.

         "Oh, okay. Well, have fun."

"See you later Mom!" Inuyasha called as he ran down the stairs.

"Now where are you going Inuyasha?"

"Out with Miroku!" he called back.

"Both of my boys are going out?" she put her hands on her hips and pretended to look hurt.

"I guess so. See you later." Sesshomaru followed his brothers path out the door.

"Works for me." Inutaishou walked up behind his wife and kissed her neck.

         "Me too."
§¤*~

&nb sp;  "I think it's cool that you are a demon." Miroku said honestly.

"Really? That is awesome. I have to admit I was a little hesitant to tell you."

"You don't have to worry. You are my best friend. We're tight." Inuyasha laughed in response to his friend. He should have known to put a little faith in him. "Chillin' with Kikyou this weekend?"

"Hai. I got the hotel room already reserved. It'll be great."

"Aren't you freaked out that there might be another scare . . . only it will be real?"

"Nah." Miroku rolled his eyes but dropped the subject.

"So tell me about this new bitch you are seeing." Inuyasha said.

         "Hey, she isn't a bitch."

         "Oh, right, just like Aimi wasn't a bitch . . ."

"Well . . ." Miroku tried to defend himself.

         "Julia . . ."

         "Well you see -"

         "Yvonne . . . "

"There's a good reason for Yvonne, see she -"

         "Charity . . ."

         "That was a mistake."

         "Megan . . . -"

"All right! I get it! So I don't pick the nicest women." Miroku sighed, then his frown turned into a smile, "But damn if they aren't hot!"

         "You're a pig." Inuyasha laughed.

"You are too. You just think Kikyou's hot. You know you don't like her for any more than her body. She is a humorless ice maiden, and you just want to fuck her."

"So? I didn't say I wasn't a pig, I was just stating that you are too my friend."

"Oh it's like that?" Miroku pretended to be hurt.

"Hai. It's like that." Miroku hit his friend in the shoulder and the boys laughed heartily.

Inuyasha and Miroku spent the rest of the day hanging around downtown. It was very uneventful, but it was the last time they could hang out before Miroku went back to work.

"I'll call you after the weekend." Inuyasha said as they arrived back at Inuyasha's house.

         "Aight, see ya."

&nbs p;  Kagome and Sesshomaru spent the weekend together. They went to the movies and hung out at the beach, she had the weekend off work from both of her jobs, and it provided for some fun with Sesshomaru. He had insisted that they spend as much time together as possible, so he could get to know her so much better. He knew he didn't have long before they would be separated again, and he didn't want any of that.
§¤*~

&nb sp;  "Kikyou, would you stop nagging?" Inuyasha asked as he changed the radio station back to an (in Kikyou's words) angry form of music, that is not to be listened to by such precious ears - of course referring to Inuyashas. That brought another point up and Inuyasha pulled the car over.

"Kikyou. I have something to tell you." he began slowly, not sure if he really wanted to tell her or not.

"What is it Inuyasha?" she asked, a general concern filling her voice, but not enough to make him feel better about this.

         "Well, Kik, I'm . . . I'm a half-demon." he stated plainly.

         "A demon?" she asked.

         "Hai. A half-demon." he repeated.

Kikyou's face seemed to pale as she took in such bizarre information. She closed her eyes and tried to pretend he hadn't just said that to her.

"Kikyou . . . are you okay?" she shook her head and looked toward the passengers side window.

"I think we should get back now. It's getting late." she stated quickly. Inuyasha sensed the fear in her scent. There was also an unreadable change in her voice. He sighed slowly before starting the car and driving back towards town.

"Kikyou . . . are you ever going to talk to me again?"

"I am just thinking." she muttered

"Well, can't you talk to me and think at the same time?"

         "Inuyasha! Shut! Up!"

         "FUCK YOU!"

Inuyasha sped down the road, taking the sharper corners practically on two wheels. He wasn't in a good mood, and he was driving far too aggressively.

"Inuyasha, I know you are angry but please slow down."

"Oh, so now you talk to me. To nag me again. You weren't mad at me before I told you what I really am. How can you be such a bitch?"

"You lied to me! Lets keep this in prospective!"

"I didn't even know!" he shot back, looking at her deeply, searching her for any sign that she would get over his 'flaw'.

"Watch the road." she ordered. He obeyed but continued to look at her out of the corner of his right eye. "I just need time." she admitted a few minutes later.

"Fine. Take all the time you need." he answered rudely.

"I don't love you." she said suddenly.

"Well that was blunt." Inuyasha responded.

"I just didn't want you to think that I was obliged to accept this new information. I didn't love you before so therefore I don't really have to like to this new aspect about you." she paused before continuing, "Besides, even if I did love you, I am still not obligated to like that you are a demon. I don't have to accept it."

"Fine, don't accept it. I just wanted to tell you because . . . I guess . . . well I thought you cared about me and I thought you should know. Guess I was wrong."

         "I do care. I just don't love."

         "You are such a bitch."

"Excuse me?" she turned to face him, slightly offended.

"I said," he turned his head to face her. "You . . . are such . . . a bitch!"

         "INUYASHA!"

"Wha-" fuck. Two blinding white lights entered Inuyashas field of vision before all went black.

&n bsp;  Sesshomaru growled at Jaken for having wasted his time yet again. "I could be with Kagome right now! You made her leave early because you thought this was important!"

"It was Sir. If Johanson beats you in the film festival, you'll never hear the end of it." Jaken retaliated.

"I don't care about that! I was with Kagome!" The melodic jingle of Sesshomaru's cell phone ring interrupted the outburst and Sesshomaru growled loudly.

"Forgive me." he reached into his pants pocket to dig out his cell phone.

"Yes Sir." Jaken responded. He obviously didn't have a choice.

"Sesshomaru speaking . . . there wa- . . . is he ali- . . . I'll be there in ten." Sesshomaru hung up the phone and threw it back in his pocket. "Jaken . . . my brother . . . I'll call you."§¤*~
