-----------------------------------
"Early mornings"
"KAGOME. GET YOUR ASS OUT OF BED. NOW."
Jumping out of bed like a rocket, Kagome began getting ready, still groggy from sleep. She knew he had been calling her for a long time. "Crap.." She mumbled to herself, her voice still hoarse.
InuYasha paced around the living room, growling to himself. He had been calling her for almost an hour now. It was 9:30 and they had to be at the storage place by 10. Shit. He was going to have to break some serious traffic rules. Taking a deep breath, he readied himself to shake the walls yelling at his roommate.
"KA---" Came the explosive begining, but he paused as she walked into the room.
"go...me. Good morning." He smirked slightly, the urge to yell leaving as soon as it had come. She was wearing a pair of old jeans and a simple black tank top. Her hair was piled up ontop of her head and she was busily putting on her shoes.
They had been living together 2 months now. She had been doing well, staying away from the things she had promised. She had recently gotten a little job at the local mall.
Only yesterday had they gotten a letter from the owner of the storage facility that Kogme used, saying that if she did not pay by the third of the month, they were going to put all her things outside, rain or shine. Today was the third.
So, they were going to collect her things and bring them back here. She had assured him that there wasn't much in the locker.
As Kagome stood to look at InuYasha expectantly, he handed her a cup of coffee and rushed her out the door, locking it behind her. They ran down to InuYasha's car, and jumped in at the speed of light.
9:45 was what the little digital clock read as InuYasha started the car and hit the gas pedal, the car flying out of the parking lot like a bullet. It took 15 minutes to get to the storage, give or take depending on traffic.
Kagome gingerly sipped at her coffee with one hand and held onto her seat for dear life with the other. She had somehow managed not to spill any of the boiling liquid onto herself. Unfortunately, she had managed to burn her top lip.
Putting the cup in one of the cup holders, she glanced at InuYasha, his face concentrated.
"Inu...Why don't we slow down, hmm? 'Cause, if we end up dead, then my family is going to have to take home soggy belongings of dead me."
He grinned slightly, turning a sharply, just missing on-coming traffic. Kagome let out a little yelp, her face smacking into the glass of the window.
"INUYASHA. SLOW THE FUCK DOWN, RIGHT NOW."
Looking at her, he pasted a look of false innocence on. "Why? We're here. Just in time."
The clock read 10:00, exactly.
Lurching out of the car, Kagome let out a sigh of releif. They had got there in one piece, thank you God.
She looked around and saw a very irate little man stalking towards her. Inwardly grimacing, she thought: 'My GOD. He is hideous.' Wanting so bad to turn around and sheild her eyes.
"Are you Kagome Higurashi?!"
"That would be me. You must be Jaken." She said, trying to be nice.
"GO AND GET YOUR SHIT OUT OF MY LOCKER OR I WILL HAVE YOU ARRESTED." he screamed at her, and then turned around and stalked back to the cave office he had emerged from.
Watching him walk away in shock, she turned to look at InuYasha, only to find him glaring daggers at the little ugly man. "Whatever. Let's just go get my stuff."
Kagome unlocked the padlock that was on a chain, holding the large door closed. She flung the door upwards and looked inside.
InuYasha blanched. "..Kagome, I thought you said there wasn't much stuff in here."
She turned to him with a worried look on her face, "I didn't think there was."
"Fucking hell, let's just get this done."
----------------------------
6 hours later and 7 trips from his apartment back to the storage later, there was almost nothing left except the few things left on the shelves.
Kagome was up on a ladder, trying to reach something. She was on her tiptoes, the ladder wobbling under her shifting weight. InuYasha walked around the corner, coming back from one of the many trips to the car.
"Hey Kags, what was I supposed to do with this..."
The sudden sound of his voice broke her concentration, startling her. She squeeked, feeling the ladder under her begin to tumble downwards. She had a breif second to think. 'This is more than likely going to hurt. I am going to have a bruise. I am going to die. I'M GOING TO DIE OH MY GOD.'
She closed eyes tightly, bracing herself for the impact against the concrete. When it didn't come, she opened her eyes, shocked. Then she realized she was in the arms of her roomate.
InuYasha stared down at her beautifully flushed face. She had a look of shock on her face, which was precious. Her hair tye had fallen out, letting it naturally fram her face. Their faces were close together, and he couldn't tear his eyes away from hers. Her lips were slightly parted, and the urge to kiss them was killing him. The rational part of him was screaming.
'Get a hold of it, Yash. She's your best friend, she's your roommate. You are probably reeaalllyyy weirding her out. Just stand her up and move on.'
For a moment, he continued to look into her cloudy eyes, etching this moment into his brain. Scratching it in so that, even when he had forgotten everything else, he could remember this moment. The way she was looking back at him, the way she felt in his arms - so right. Her beauty.
Kagome bit her top lip. Why hadn't he stood her up yet? Why was he looking at her like that? Was he going to kiss her? What was going on? Why were these sudden feelings rushing through her? What were they?
'Am I supposed to be confused?'
Snapping himself out of his trance-like state, InuYasha blinked a few times down at Kagome and then stood her up quickly. He took three steps away from her, clearing his throat embarrassedly. Refusing to make eyecontact with her, he simply said: "You can go get into the car. I'll get the last few things in here, and be there in a sec."
Kagome took in a breath, ready to say something. But she thought better of it. "Okay.." she almost whispered, turning and walking away.
When she was out of earshot, InuYasha let out a huge sigh. 'What the fuck, you idiot. You can't even control yourself for a day. You're pathetic.'
InuYasha turned his mental beating off for the time being, saving it for later. Grabbing the few things left in the storage locker, he closed the door and walked down to the car.
------------------------------
Kagome stormed into the apartment, kicking her shoes off and dropping her purse in the same spot. Without even a glance at InuYasha, she walked down the hall into her room and slammed the door behind herself, locking it. Sitting down on the bed, she turned her stereo on. Loud enough so that she wouldn't be able to hear anything outside of her room; not loud enough to bother the neighbours. Laying back on her bed, she thought over the day that had past.
What had happened in the storage place... It hadn't exactly freaked her out. It moreso brought up emotions she didn't know she felt towards a certain roommate. When he was looking at her like that, it made her feel so loved and so wanted. So special. Maybe for the first time in her life.
Then, of course, the logical voice in both of them had started yelling and the awkwardness had kicked in. The car ride home had been utter shit. They had not said anything to each other; had not tried to explain or understand anything that had happened. And that pissed her off. Was he going to go on about everything, pretending that it didn't happen? Pretending that nothing had passed between them?
'Maybe nothing really passed between us. Maybe I am just reading way to far into this.' She thought weakly, smothering the little shread of hope that it really had meant something.
She momentarily turned her off brain, drowning herself in the music that was blaring from her stereo.
Her mouth was an empty cut
She was waiting to fall
Just bleeding like a polaroid
That lost all her dolls
Cause you were from a perfect world
A world that threw me away today
Today
Today
To run away
A pill to make you numb
A pill to make you dumb
A pill to make you anybody else
All the drugs in this world
Won't save her from herself.
A whisper of a smile wandered across her lips. She had been doing so well. No alcahol, no drugs, not even ciggarettes. Nothing. It was hard, really hard. The temptations she never knew were there had eaten away at her, and she had lost almost 10 pounds. That was okay though, she was a tub-tub anyways and could do with a little less weight. Or, atleast, that is what she thought.
It didn't matter. Her and Yash would get over this little happening, it had meant nothing. And they were going to go out and celebrate tonight. She would only drink sprite or coke and they would dance the night away.
Reaching over to turn her music down, she sat up and yelled through the closed door for her roommate.
The sound of his name being yelled startled him, but he shot up out of his chair instantly. In three long strides, he was at her door and opening it in a fury. "Kagome! Are you okay?"
She had a sweet smile on her face and her beauty shatterted him, but he hid it well.
"I'm fine. I was just thinking, let's go out and celebrate tonight. We could go to the new club that opened downtown."
He gave her a skeptical look, and she knew exactly what he was going to say.
"I will only drink coke or sprite. Sango and Miroku can come too."
He nodded. "Feh. Fine, I will phone them and we will go. But I am only doing this because you want me too. No other reason. What are we celebrating, anyways?" He flattened his ear against his head at just the thought of the loud, obnoxious music that would be playing way too loud.
She shrugged. "Two months of living together, my two months of being sober. Our friendship, finally getting my storage locker cleaned out. Just everything." She shrugged again, not knowing what else to say.
"Hmph. Kay." The indifference in his voice was there purpously. He did not want her to know he was excited to go out. To be seen with her, to see her dressed up.
But before he could close the door, she called for him again. "Hey, Yash," she said, a wry grin on her face. "It's kinda....the club I have in mind is kinda dark. Gothic-ish. So don't dress like your going to meet your girlfriends parents." She winked at him.
He said nothing, thinking to himself, 'I've already met your parents.' Then, beating himself up for it.
Walking out of the room, he closed the door behind him and closed his eyes, leaning his head against the wall. "This girl is going to kill me..." he muttered to himself.
---------------------
A few hours later, InuYasha and Miroku were in the living room watching football, waiting for the girls to finally be ready. They had been chatting idly, and the subject of Kagome came up.
"Have you made a move yet?" Asked Mirokue buntly.
InuYasha felt his face redden slightly, but shook his head. He told his friend of the event that was the storage facility, but that nothing else had happened.
"Damn Yasha. You have to do something soon, or she is gonna miss any hints that you give completely." InuYasha nodded silently. It was true. But what if she rejected him completely? Was it a chance he was willing to take?
His head shot up as he heard the door of Kagomes room open, signifying that the girls were ready. Standing up, he waited. What he saw left him speechless.
Kagome walked in, wearing an outfit that she adored. Most people didn't know she even had it, simply because she didn't wear it everyday. But she had always favoured the darker side of things.
She was wearing a pair of black skinny jeans that were intentionaly tattered and torn all over, the holes pulled together half heartedly by safety pins. A pair of black pointed-toe heels adorned her delicate feet. On her torso there was a corset/tank that showed a thin line of skin between the point where her jeans start and the corset ends. It was a lace-up back and had taken Sango some time to finish lacing it. But the effect it had on Kagome's already flawless body was amazing. Over that she had the only colour that was on her body; a bright red halfjacket. Her make up was just as dramatic as her outfit, lots of black eyeliner and long eyelashes. Her lips were a pale pink, not far from her natural colour. Her hair was pulled back into a high pony tail, Sango's specialty.
Sango was wearing almost the same thing, except with a skirt and more colour. Her top was a bright neon green as were her eyelids. She wore a black fishnet top over her corset, and her hair was curled and framed her face beautifully.
"Ready guys?" Kagome asked, a smile forming on her lips at the reaction of them both.
Both InuYasha and Miroku cleared there throats and nodded, turning to walk towards the door.
Neither were wearing anything too extravagant. InuYasha was wearing a black wife beater and a pair of bondage pants, his silver hair pulled back for the night. Miroku was wearing a purple-almost-black wife beater and his typical hair-style and a pair of baggy black jeans. Both were wearing a considerable amount of black eyeliner.
"Let's party." Kagome said, following them out the door.
