Soul Mates
The sun spread its radiant heat on the fields around the village, and made Kagome's hair feel like an electric blanket turned on high as it draped down her back and neck. She stopped picking herbs to sweep it off with a quick brush of her hand. A puff of air cooled her neck for a moment. Looking up, she spotted a red and silver figure approaching in the distance and smiled. As InuYasha got closer, she stood up.
“I thought you might be thirsty,” InuYasha said, handing her a flask of water.
With a smile, Kagome nodded and took the drink from him. InuYasha watched as she took a long swig and sighed happily. She had been back a week, but after waiting three years for her return, he still could not get his fill of looking at her, being with her. That is why he had offered to bring her some water, when Kaede said Kagome was out in the fields.
“Thank you InuYasha, that was just what I needed,” Kagome said.
“Keh, no problem,” InuYasha answered, smirking.
“I have been here for hours,” Kagome said, her voice tired. “I think I am done for the day.”
“So, where to now?” InuYasha said. “Back to Kaede's?”
Kagome bent over and picked up the basket of herbs, looking thoughtful. She really did not feel like returning right away. It was so nice to be alone with InuYasha, she felt like prolonging it. She slipped her hand under his arm and he cocked an eyebrow at her.
“I could really use a dip in the river,” Kagome replied. “Can you come with me and keep me safe?”
Of course Kagome had more in mind then just cooling off, and by InuYasha's grin she could tell he understood her unspoken desire. Nodding InuYasha picked her up and she got on his back. They sped off, into the sun dappled forest, to the river that Kagome had bathed in when she had first entered the Sengoku Jidai, years ago.
At the riverbank, Kagome dismounted and took off her kosode and hakama. This time, she did not care if InuYasha watched, in fact she was looking forward to him watching her disrobe. Her back was too him, as she slipped out of her kosode, fully naked. She felt InuYasha's hands encircle her waist, and twisted around to face him. He was naked as well, and pulled her too him for a lingering kiss. Then he broke away, and pushed her towards the river.
“It's getting even hotter all of a sudden,” InuYasha said. “Let's get in the water.”
Giggling, Kagome turned and ran. “Last one in is a pickled cabbage!”
Kagome screamed as she ran, the sound of InuYasha growling behind her. It was no surprise he overtook her, splashing as he landed in the water in front of her. She put up her hands to keep the water out of her eyes, and he grabbed one of them, pulling her down after him. They went underwater, and came up sputtering and laughing. He pulled her close, clasping her around the waist, and she encircled his hips with her arms. There had been something he had been meaning to ask her, and he fought the anxiety that fluttered in his chest. Now was the perfect opportunity, and he could not let it pass them by.
“You've been back a week, and I have waited three years for you, thinking about your return,” InuYasha said, trying to sound firm and not betray his uncertainty. He stopped and licked his lips, not able to meet her eyes.
“And I spent three years in my time thinking about you, InuYasha,” Kagome said softly. “I knew it must have been hard for you to leave me there, and I understand you thought you were doing the right thing. Don't worry - I never doubted you made the right choice.”
InuYasha nodded, running his hands over the wet skin of Kagome's slim back. She was always so encouraging, always there to make him feel comfortable when she knew he was having a hard time communicating. He felt so grateful, and lucky…
“I wanted to ask you,” InuYasha continued. “I am only a hanyou, I don't have much. No family, accept Sesshomaru, if I can even count him. But….”
Kagome listened with growing anticipation. She knew this was hard for him, his ears turned back and face flushed as he sought to find the words. Gently she stroked his hips with her thumbs, silently willing him to continue.
“I knew that we were meant to be together, it is our fate Kagome,” InuYasha said. “So…let's make it official. Be my wife Kagome?”
“Of course I will marry you, silly hanyou,” Kagome said. “Why do you sound so uncertain? Did you ever for a moment doubt I would - I came back to be with you!”
InuYasha finally looked up at her with a sheepish grin, and they both laughed again. Her eyes shone with happiness, so sweet and full of love. It made InuYasha feel dizzy, her love like a drug so strong it was almost overpowering. He picked her up, and she wrapped her legs around his waist. Her arms went around his neck, and he gazed into her shining face, before pulling her down for a deep passionate kiss, that they both knew was going to lead to an even more passionate and intimate moment. It was time, and flooded with desire, they gave in to it with all their heart and soul. A physical manifestation of what they knew they were spiritually…soul mates.
