Chapter 23

Morning Pain

Inuyasha woke up early in the morning. He looked around and looked down at Kagome. She was sleeping on his chest. He smiled remembering what they did last night.

He looked over at their clothes. Kagome only had a shirt and skirt left. Every thing else was cut off of her.

He knew that she was going to want to take a bath. He moved her from him and wrapped his outer haori around her. He didn't want to leave her but she would be embarrassed to walk into camp with only his shirt on.

He put his pants and inner haori on and made sure there were no youkai around. He left once he was sure there wasn't any danger.

He ran to camp and grabbed her pack. Everyone was already awake. Shippo was the first to speak up.

"Where's Okaa-san? What happened?" He jumped at Inuyasha.

Inuyasha caught him and said. "She's fine. She took a walk last night and fell asleep. She wants to take a bath. Get off I need to hurry."

Inuyasha grabbed her stuff and ran back. Miroku had a lecherous look on his face while Sango had an expression of disbelief on her face.

Inuyasha ran back to Kagome and checked on her. She hadn't moved from the postion Inuyasha put her in. He laid back down with her and went back to sleep.

Kagome woke up soon after Inuyasha fell asleep. She knew he woke up at some time because her bag was there. She looked at him and blushed.

She pulled away from Inuyasha and securely tied Inuyasha's shirt around her. She grabbed her pack and headed toward a hot spring she had walked by last night.

She undressed and walked into the water. She was sore. Her thighs and many other places hurt. The warm water was relaxing her muscles.

She sat in the water for a while.

Soon after she went back to camp. Inuyasha would figure out where she went. Then she realized she left some clothes with Inuyasha. She didn't want to leave her torn underwear there.

She walked back to the clearing to find Inuyasha sitting up and waiting for her. She blushed. She walked over to pick up her clothes.

Inuyasha grabbed her and gave her a quick kiss. "Good morning" He said.

"Good morning." She said her blush rising.

"You don't have to be so embarrassed."

"I know it's just that it was my first time."

"I know. It was my first time too."

She looked at him with wide eyes. "What did you think I had sex with every woman I ever saw?"

"No it's just that well it seemed like you knew what you were doing." She said as she looked away from him.

"I have instincts you know. When I mate it's for life."

"Mou, I'm stuck with a pig-headed demon for the rest of my life?"

"I'm a hanyou."

"You're still pig-headed."

"Yeah and you're a bitch." She elbowed him in the stomach.

He grunted and took the pack from her. "You're sore."

"How did you know?"

"I'm not stupid. Besides I smelt the blood this morning when I came back."

"It doesn't hurt too bad. I expected it to hurt. My side hurts more than anything though."

"Your side? That shouldn't hurt. I didn't scratch you or anything did I?"

"No, I didn't notice anything when I took a bath. It's probably nothing. Come on I'm hungry."

"Fine let's go. Sango is cooking already." Inuyasha watched her yawn. "Tired?" He asked in a cocky voice.

"Sit. Don't get too full of yourself. You'll regret it later." She kept walking. As soon as Inuyasha got was able to get up he bounded after her. He threw her over her shoulder and listened to her let out a shriek of surprise.

He smiled and ran toward the smell of food. When they got there the food had just gotten done. Miroku just kept looking at Kagome with an all-knowing eye.

Kagome tried to ignore it. She looked to Sango when she handed her a bowl. Sango looked at her and nodded. Sango grabbed Hiraikotsu and dropped it over the monk's head.

"Arigato, Sango."

"Your welcome Kagome-chan."

The monk stopped looking at Kagome after that. He didn't want to get hit. That and Inuyasha was glaring murderously at him. It would not be a good day for him.

After they had eaten they were on their way. Kagome stopped in her tracks. She felt a Shikon shard close by. She looked behind her.

Everyone followed Kagome's gaze. There was a youkai running towards them. He was fast, almost as fast as Kouga. He ran past the group snatching Kagome.

"Put me down." Kagome screamed. The youkai stopped dead in his tracks. He put her down. Kagome was surprised. She didn't think he was going to listen to her.

She was about to walk back to the group when he grabbed her arm. "Let go." She yelled. She struggled to get free. He brought his face close to hers and sniffed her. His eyes grew wide.

He pushed her hair to the side of her neck and sniffed again. Without warning he took off in the direction he came from.

Everyone huddled around Kagome. Inuyasha grabbed her and looked for injuries.

"What did he do?" He asked as he touched her arms.

"He didn't do anything. He just sniffed me. Why would he do that?" Kagome asked.

Shippo jumped onto Kagome's shoulder and sniffed her. "I don't smell anything Okaa-san. You smell more like Inuyasha though. Did you hug him?"

"Get off her runt, as long as he didn't hurt you. Are you sure you're ok?"

"Hai, let's go. I can't feel the shard he was carrying."

"He was carrying a shard? Fuck. Let's just go."

They all started walking. Kagome suddenly felt a twinge of pain at her side. It had been hurting all day but not as much as it did now. She stopped and grabbed her side.

Everyone stopped and looked back at her. "Kagome-chan are you ok?" Sango asked.

Kagome screamed and collapsed. The pain was getting worse. Inuyasha knelt down beside her. He looked at where her hands were. He moved her hands and lifted her shirt.

He saw the mark Hojo left. It was glowing red. It looked like it was throbbing. He touched it and she screamed even louder.

Inuyasha picked her up. He could smell a river not to far away. "Shippo, do you smell the river?"

Shippo looked at him with tears in his eyes. He sniffed. "Hai, is Okaa-san going to be ok?"

"Hai, I'm going to the river to put her in to see if it helps her. Lead Sango and Miroku there. Only you can come see her after that. No one else comes near her you got that?"

They nodded and Inuyasha took off. "I wonder why he wouldn't at least let me come?" Sango asked.

"I think it is because he is being overprotective. He must see Shippo as his son so it's all right for him to see Kagome."

"Oh."

Shippo was listening as he ran toward the river. He smiled. Inuyasha thought of him as his son. He wondered if it was true.

Inuyasha made it to the river. Kagome stopped screaming. Now she was whimpering. She clung to Inuyasha. She was sweating.

Inuyasha cut off her clothes with his claws and took off his inner and outer haori. He walked into the river with Kagome in his arms.

She stopped whimpering. He looked at the mark. It had turned to its original color. Kagome started to relax. Inuyasha went over to a boulder and leaned against it.

He rubbed Kagome's back soothingly. He started to growl to calm her down. Kagome calmed down. The pain had stopped. She looked at Inuyasha.

"I'm fine now. It doesn't hurt anymore."

He just kept holding her. She leaned against his chest. Then it suddenly hit her. She was in the river with Inuyasha. She tried to get out of his arms.

"What's wrong?"

"I need to get dressed. Sango and Miroku will come at any moment."

He held her still. "No they won't. I told only Shippo could come."

"Why only Shippo?"

"You treat him like your son. Besides would you really want Sango or Miroku to come check on us like this? Shippo's a kid so it won't matter."

"Oh. You know I think Shippo thinks of you as his Otou-san." She smiled at him.

"Yeah right. We're always fighting."

"That doesn't mean he doesn't like you."

"Feh." was all he said. He sniffed. "Shippo's coming."

Shippo then came running through the bushes. He dove into the water and swam to Kagome as fast as he could.

"Okaa-san." He yelled and grabbed onto her neck, hugging her.

"It's ok Shippo. I'm all right now." She hugged him back.

"Really?" He asked as he looked up at her.

"Hai, the cold water made me feel better."

"Good." He said as he hugged her again. "I thought you guys didn't take baths together."

Kagome blushed and looked away. Inuyasha laughed. "That's because we weren't mates then." Inuyasha answered.

"You're mates now?"

They both nodded. "So that's why you smelled like Inuyasha a lot more than usual. Does that mean you're my new Otou-san?" Shippo asked Inuyasha.

"If that's what you want Shippo." Inuyasha said.

"But I thought you hated me."

"I didn't hate you. You were just annoying." He said.

Shippo hugged Inuyasha. "Go tell Sango and Miroku to make a fire and set up camp." Inuyasha told Shippo.

"Hai, Otou-san." Shippo dove back into the water and swam to the other side.

"See, I told you." Kagome said.

"Feh. He started kissing her neck. "You sure you're all right?"

"I'm fine."

"Good." He said. He kept kissing her.

"Come on let's go. I need to change." Kagome said.

"I don't want to." He kissed her on the lips. He lightly ran his claws up and down her back.

"Come on I'm hungry and tired. You can play later."

"Promise?"

"Promise." Kagome said. He picked her up out of the water. Shippo came back with her pack.

"Sango said you might want to change."

"Arigato Shippo." She took the pack. "Why don't you go sit by the fire to dry your clothes."

"Hai." He ran back to the camp.

Kagome got changed while Inuyasha ran around to get his pants dried. He put the rest of his clothes back on and offered his back to Kagome.

"I can walk you know."

"You're not walking after what just happened. You were in a lot of pain. Not to mention sore from what we did last night."

Kagome blushed. She got on his back and they went to camp. Sango ran up to her.

"Kagome are you all right?"

"Hai, I'm fine now. The cold water helped out a lot."

They all sat around the fire while Kagome slept. She was more tired than she realized. Miroku spoke.

"What do you think happened to Kagome-sama?"

"I don't know. I guess that bastard Hobo or whatever decided she did something wrong."

"What could she have done that would make him mad?" Sango asked.

"Otou-san I'm hungry." Shippo said and climbed into Inuyasha's lap. Sango and Miroku looked at them.

"Otou-san?" They both said at the same time.

"Yeah what of it?" He asked.

"Nothing I think I'll start cooking dinner." Sango said.

"Ah, I think I know why he's mad." Miroku said.
