The next day, Miroku and Sango returned to the village. Kagome grinned when she saw them; she knew what had happened the night before. Sango saw her smile and blushed.
“Sango, Miroku, you're back!” shouted Shippo. He dashed towards them and jumped into Miroku's arms.
The wind started to change. It became colder and uneven. Kagome could feel another presence. “She's here,” Kagome seethed. Sure enough, Botan was in a tree, looking at them with her red eyes. Shippo had chills running down his spine.
“Kaede, please escort Shippo out of danger and stay with him?” asked Miroku. Kaede nodded and took Shippo with her.
“What are you doing here bitch?” demanded Kagome. Botan flinched at the rude remark Kagome had given her.
“Why, my dear Miko, what do you think?” Botan questioned.
“You aren't taking them anywhere. They are staying here!” Kagome shouted. Pastel auras were surrounding her. Sango and Miroku took a step back. Never before had they seen such power.
“What are you going to do about it? Send a purify arrow at me? I'll only dodge it,” said Botan. It appeared to the slayer and monk that the demon was oblivious to the aura. It started to increase in power because she was getting very angry.
“If you want them, you'll have to go through me!” screamed Kagome.
Botan grinned and replied, “Fine with me.” Botan followed Kagome to an open field.
“Let's do it!” yelled Botan. She lunged at Kagome, but she dodged it with one step to her left. Botan yelled in frustration every time she lunged at the Miko.
In Kagome's mind she saw Fire circling around them. All of sudden a ring of fire surrounded them. “No escape Botan, think you can handle me?” Kagome growled.
“Of course,” replied Botan. She lunged, yet again, toward Kagome. When she was inches from her opponent, she was lifted into the air and slammed against a boulder.
She struggled to get to her feet. She saw Kagome walking towards her. Botan was shocked to hear her heart racing. Was she afraid of a mere human? No, this human was no ordinary human. She was a powerful Miko.
Botan finally stood up and made a noise. Before Kagome's eyes, she saw hundreds of June Beetles flying towards her. She hated bugs! Kagome sent a fire spiral at them. The beetles burned into a crisp. Kagome grinned. Botan yelled in frustration.
Botan made a symbol in the air. The ground started to shake. Kagome looked down. Hands everywhere started popping up. “Come! Come my zombies!” cried Botan. Kagome made a face. They looked gross. Worms and centipedes were crawling all over the bodies. Kagome called for Earth. She commanded the element to drag them back into the ground and to make sure they stayed there.
From a distance, Miroku and Sango watched their friend battle the demon. They had never seen such power erupt from her. They saw her have earth drag the zombies back into the ground, have air thrash the demon against a boulder and have fire circle them both.
“I can tell that Kagome doesn't need our help,” said Miroku.
“But, don't you feel, I don't know, helpless?” asked Sango.
Miroku had to agree. Then he realized that, after all their battles with demons while searching for the shards, Kagome must have felt the same. Helpless. She did help time from time with her purifying arrows. Other than that, she just stood and watched.
They turned their focus back to the battle. “This must be quite a battle for Kagome. She really doesn't want us to die again,” said Sango.
“Yes, she is a true friend,” said Miroku. Sango shrieked. Kagome was slammed against a tree. “Don't worry. She'll get back up,” said Miroku.
“How can you be so sure? She was just slammed into a damn tree!” yelled Sango. Miroku's face didn't have any expression.
`Why is he so confident? Kagome is fighting that demon all alone. She has done so much for us. I need to help her somehow,' she thought.
“Kirara!” Sango shouted. Kirara suddenly showed up.
“Sango! What are you doing?” asked Miroku.
Sango jumped onto Kirara's bigger form. “I'm helping Kagome and I don't care what you think. She's like a sister to me and I can't just stand there and watch her risk her life to protect us,” Sango replied.
She went to the battlefield. Miroku knew he couldn't stop her. `There are the times when I wish I had my Air Rip,' he thought. Now, he had to stay where was and watch his two friends fight the demon.
Kagome saw her friend land right next to her. “Sango what are you doing here?” she demanded.
“What do you think, I am helping you,” Sango replied.
Kagome glared at her and growled, “No you will not. I won't let you. What if something happens to you? Go back!”
“No I will not!” Sango shot back.
“I call upon the elements of earth. I call Air to do my bidding. I command you to take Sango and Kirara out of here and make sure they stay where they are,” said Kagome. Sango and Kirara were lifted from the ground and went back to Miroku's side.
“I told you,” said Miroku. Sango ignored him
“I am tired of you demon. Die!” Kagome shouted. Kagome called the five elements. There was a swirling, blinding light of green, blue, red, white, and silver. From a distance, Miroku and Sango were awed at the sight. Kagome pointed her finger towards Botan and shouted, “I command you elements of earth to destroy this demon and make sure she won't come back again!”
The elements turned into an arrow as Kagome pulled it from her bow and shot it. The arrow shot at Botan. Before the demon could scream, she was destroyed.
`May you never return to this world again,' thought Kagome. She turned around and lowered the fire until it was gone.
She met up with her friends. She laughed at them because their faces were awestruck. They finally snapped out of it and saw her standing in front of them.
“That was unbelievable Kagome!” exclaimed Sango.
Kagome blushed. “Aw, it was nothing,” Kagome said rather shyly.
“Kagome, you are the most powerful Miko in history. Nothing is more powerful than you. You're invincible,” said Miroku.
“And don't let that go to your head!” added Sango. Kagome shook her head quickly.
Later that night, Kagome visited Midoriko.
“Hello Midoriko,” said Kagome.
“Hello Kagome. Did you beat the demon?” Midoriko questioned.
“Yes, ”Kagome said, still feeling annoyed about not being forewarned of the demon.
“Let me explain. I have heard about demons being created when someone brings back the dead. I don't know why I forgot to tell you, but I think it was a sign from the gods and goddesses. I think it was a test to see if you are powerful and meant to be the master of the elements. I would have warned you, you know that. Understand?” asked Midoriko.
“Yes, I understand. I must go now,” replied Kagome.
Kagome opened her eyes and saw Shippo staring at her. “Thank you, Kagome, for saving us,” he said.
“It was no problem at all,” she replied with a smile. She looked up to the sky and saw the sun rise.
“Is there anything wrong Kagome?” asked Shippo.
“Oh, no Shippo, everything's fine,” replied Kagome with a genuine smile.
