AN: Ok, I know it's been a while since I updated this. For those of you who have been keeping up with my other stories you know I went through a computer change over. One of the things that was lost in this change was what I had of this chapter, so I've had to rewrite it. Also, I must admit that this story started out as a one-shot and later I decided to lengthen it. Because of this, this story has no pre-planned out line. This simply means That I update as the story works itself out in my head. I apologize for the long wait, but if it any comfort Chapter 6 is already mostly written.

Student Teacher Relations

Chapter 5

Inuyasha sat at his desk, shifting uneasily. Kagome would be here soon.  He knew what she wanted to talk about, and it was not chemistry. He tapped his pencil's eraser on the desk, trying hard to keep his mind on the test he was giving later. But his thoughts kept wandering back to the hallway and Kagome.

The doorknob turned, the soft sound seeming to echo through the empty room. Inuyasha tried to look casual as he turned towards the sound. His face fell when the dark-haired woman entered. She smiled seductively at him and he groaned.

"What can I do for you, Miss Edo?" She smiled sweetly and sat down on the edge of his desk. Inuyasha sighed.

"I was just thinking, I have a little free time this weekend and maybe we could," she played innocently with a lock of her long black hair, "Go out somewhere, together."

"Miss Edo, look, I'm flattered; really I am. But I'm just not interested. Now please, I have a student coming in early for some extra help and it would not do for teachers to be witnessed," he looked at the way she had seated herself on his desk, "in what could be construed as a compromising position." Kikyou snorted, pushing herself to her feet.

"Ok, fine," she huffed and hopped off the desk. The woman turned to him and planted her hands on her hips. "What is it going to take?"

"Excuse me?" Inuyasha lifted an eyebrow.

"I've asked you out, I've tried subtlety, I've even tried to seduce you. What's it going to take to get one date? Am I really that unappealing?"  Inuyasha stood and walked around his desk. If there was one thing he could not stand was a crying woman and Kikyou looked close to tears.

"That's not it at all, Miss Edo." He pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and offered it to her. She snatched it from his hand, but made no attempt to use it.

"What then?"

"For starters, I don't know you."

"What?"

"Like you said," Inuyasha leaned casually against his desk, "You've tried everything to get my attention. But you've never tried just being yourself. My father and brother are famous, as I'm sure you already know. Do you really think you are the first person to try and win my favor?"

"Well, I…" Kikyou felt the color rise to her cheeks.

"Look, Miss Edo, I have nothing against dating you," Kikyou's head snapped up, "Who knows, we may even make a good couple. But, right now, I'm seeing someone and I really like her." Kikyou looked back down, watching her hands twist the handkerchief. When she looked up again, she had a smile on her face, but it did not quite reach her eyes.

"I understand."

Inuyasha furrowed his brow, but at that moment a timid knock came from the door. His heart skipped as the door was pushed open and Kagome poked her head in.

"I'm not interrupting am I?" She asked. Inuyasha noted that she did not meet his eyes. "I can wait in the hallway."

"No, it's all right, Higurashi. Miss Edo just came by to return something. Come in and I'll be with you in a moment." Kagome nodded and moved quickly to her regular seat. Inuyasha turned back to his colleague. "Was there anything else, Miss Edo?"

"No. Thank you." Kikyou turned sharply on her heels and walked out, slamming the door harder than necessary behind her. Kagome did her best to ignore the goings on in the classroom, taking out her book and other supplies to keep herself busy.

"Kagome." At the sound of Inuyasha's voice, she flinched. She tried to concentrate on her book, looking through the pages for something to ask about - anything would do. But the sound of his footsteps seemed to echo all around her, making thinking impossible. "Kagome…" He placed his hand on top of hers, effectively halting her frantic page turning. He sat down sideways in the chair in front of her, bringing himself down to her level.

"I had a question-"

"Don't." She fell silent at his command, "That's not why you're here and we both know it. What happened yesterday? Why did you run from me?"

"I…" she slowly raised her eyes from the text in the book to where his hand rested on top of hers. "I just had a little run-in with Ookami-kun." Inuyasha's grip on her hand tightened.

"What did he do to you? If he hurt you…"

"No, he didn't hurt me. Just…"

"Just what?" Inuyasha leaned closer.

"He called me his woman, and even though I told him I was seeing someone he was really… insistent." Kagome looked up, meeting his eyes for the first time. "What if he… finds out?"

"You give him too much credit." Inuyasha gave a small chuckle. The corners on Kagome's mouth twitched slightly, but it did not last. Inuyasha sobered. "But he didn't hurt you, right?" Kagome shook her head. "Then don't worry, I'm not going to let anything happen to you."

"What about you? You could lose your job." Kagome reasoned.

"True. But I'm not worried; I have some things I can fall back on if it comes to that." Inuyasha smiled. Kagome frowned.

"I don't want you to lose your job over me." Kagome looked earnestly at him. Inuyasha smiled at her and gave her hand a gentle pat. He stood up and straightened his shirt, taking on a very authoritative look.

"So, are you ready for the test today, Higurashi?"

"I think so, but I do have some questions."

Inuyasha watched over the top of his book as the class worked on the test. Pencils scratched, and paper rustled as pages turned. His eyes slid over to Kagome. Her brow was furrowed in deep thought. It did not take much to tell what was tripping her up. He knew that, even though the math on this test was not overly hard, Kagome was struggling with it.

Next, he moved his eyes over to Kouga. It took all he had not to growl under his breath. He had split Kouga and his little gang up, not putting it past them to cheat given half a chance. The three boys were all leaned way over their tests, covering their answers from view. Inuyasha narrowed his eyes, trying to pick up any bits of paper where they should not be. Seeing nothing to rouse his suspicion, he returned to his book.

As the end of class neared, the students began to rush through the last page of the test. Inuyasha kept a close watch on the clock so as not to let the test run over.

"Time. Pencils down."

"But, Teach, I haven't finished yet," Kouga protested. Inuyasha resisted the urge to roll his eyes.

"That is not my problem, Ookami. You should have studied harder," Inuyasha replied as he collected the tests. "And everyone, please remember that next class will be a lab and appropriate clothing must be worn. Failure to comply will result in an automatic zero. Labs account for one quarter of your grade. If you do not know what clothing is or is not permitted during a lab, check your syllabus. Should you have some sort of special circumstance come up, e-mail me at least one hour before class begins." He returned to the front of the class and tapped the tests on his desk. "If there are no questions, you are free to leave."

The students bustled about, gathering their things. Chairs scratched against the ground and fabric crinkled as students stood and shouldered their packs.

"Ookami, I'd like to see you for a minute." Kouga looked up and furrowed his brow. Frowning, he waved his buddies on, saying he would catch up, and came to stand in front of Inuyasha's desk. Kagome cast Inuyasha a grateful smile before hurrying to put some distance between herself and her classmate. Inuyasha waited for the rest of the class to filter out, many of them casting curious looks over their shoulders, before looking up to meet his student's eyes. Carefully he folded his hands.

"I have received a complaint from a female student about some behavior on your part that made her uncomfortable." Kouga opened his mouth to answer, but Inuyasha cut him off. "I'm not accusing you of anything, Ookami. At this point, I have no reason to believe or disbelieve either of you. But should these complaints continue, I will be reporting it to the main office. You should know that should you be found guilty of sexually harassing other students, you will be expelled." This time Kouga's brow furrowed darkly.

"You can't expel me."

"Oh, I guarantee I can." Inuyasha leaned forward on his desk, sensing the threat in the boy's voice.

"Do you know who my father is?" Kouga's voice sounded strangely calm.

"I do," Inuyasha admitted. Ookami-san, Kouga's father, was a wealthy businessman known for his ruthlessness in all parts of his life. Inuyasha was not surprised that the boy was so undisciplined; he doubted Kouga had ever been denied anything in his life.

"Then don't presume to threaten me," Kouga warned.

"I'm a teacher, Ookami. It is my job to protect my students," Inuyasha did not flinch when Kouga growled. The staring contest was short-lived. Kouga grabbed his bag and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him.
