Chapter 4- Forgotten

“Here KyÅzame-san, take these!!” exclaimed Nikko as she placed a tray covered with food on to the counter. KyÅzame looked down at the tray and his eyes widened as they brimmed with curiosity. Nikko had piled the tray with all kinds of snacks, Ramen, Udon and left-over's from the dinner the night before.

“What is all of this??? You humans eat this?” asked KyÅzame as his eyebrows scrunched up together.

“Of course silly! *giggling* What kind of food do you Shinigami's eat?” replied Nikko as she tilted her head sideways.

“Usually bread, fish and wine…it is what was eaten in the Biblical times.”

“Ah, I see!”

“Mmm…” he said as he continued to stare at one of the snacks in amazement. He began to reach out to it but pulled back his arm when he noticed Nikko was staring at him.

“Go ahead! Eat one! *giggling* It's good, you'll like it!” she stated as she handed him one of the yellow snack bags. KyÅzame took it from her, eyed it for a while and then opened it, grabbed a chip from inside and popped it into his mouth. Nikko began giggling as she watched what she could now see of his eyes which were hidden behind his bangs turn into large saucers. “You see! I knew you would like it!” she exclaimed as she climbed up on a stool on her knees and grabbed his face. KyÅzame continued to eat the snack as she seemed to be watching him intensely with big curious eyes.

“Why do you cover your eyes KyÅzame-san?” she asked as she watched him put down the snack.

“Because, I do not like my eyes.” he replied as he looked down at her.

“Why?”

“Because of their color.”

“What color are they?”

“Why don't you see for yourself.”

“Ah really, you'll let me!??” she asked as she watched him smile slightly and nod his head. She then moved his long raven bangs away from his eyes. She stared in amazement as she said “Your eyes…look just like…”

The Shinigami blinked her eyes a few times so they could adjust to the light dimmed room. She looked around to realize that she was in a bedroom. Turning her head to face Sesshomaru, she took a deep breathe and then realized that he had spoken. “You asked why? Why what?” she replied as she sat up in the bed to stare at Sesshomaru who had a mix of emotions displayed on his face. “Oh yesI'm human now” she thought as she put her hand to her forehead feeling a sharp pain at her temple. “Why…are you staring at me like that…Daiyoukai?” she asked again as her features changed to that of an annoyed one.

“Tell me Shinigami, is this what you always look like, or can you take on the forms of other people who have previously died?” asked Sesshomaru as a very cold expression took over his previously confused features.

“Yes we can take on the forms of people who have died…but wh-”

“Do you always look this way?”

“What?”

“Do NOT make this Sesshomaru repeat himself!”

“Yes I always look this way. Is there a problem?” she replied as her voice became dark to mimic his.

“Don't take this Sesshomaru for a fool!!!”

“What? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT DAIYOUKAI!? I did not lie to you!” she yelled as she glared at him. Sesshomaru stood up as he remembered the conversation he had with Juza.

They are no longer alive. But no longer human said Juza as he stared at Sesshomaru.

No longer human you say?

Precisely. The both of them became Shinigami's.”

Sesshomaru's heart skipped a beat as he looked down at the woman before him. “Could it be thatcould she really beit explains why I've been having so many memories ofher” he thought as he overlooked the woman in front of him. Her big brown eyes stared back at him brimming with curiosity and lots of sadness. His heart twisted as he tried to understand what was happening. “Daiyoukai? Why did you yell at me suddenly? Explain yourself.” She ordered as she watched a whirlpool of love and despair twirl in his amber eyes. She suddenly felt a pain in her heart but she couldn't figure out why. “Daiyoukai??? Sesshomaru???” she asked as she waved a hand in front of his face to get his attention. He was suddenly snapped out of his thoughts when he heard her name. He raised his eyebrows and his expression became calm as he looked at her and stared into her eyes that seemed to breathe in the very essence of his being.

“That is your name correct? If I remember correctly, and I have an excellent memory.” She said as she tilted her head the way Nikko does when she's curious.

“…Rin…” he replied barely above a whisper as his breathe hitched slightly in his chest.

“How do you…why…”

“…Rin…do you not remember…”

“Remember?”

“Ah, you're awake I see. Nikko has prepared you some food…” said KyÅzame as he and Nikko entered the room to see Sesshomaru staring intensely at the female Shinigami “You've found out I see…” Sesshomaru's head jerked in his direction as he said this. “You meant to keep it a secret from me? From Nikko? Explain yourself!!!” exclaimed Sesshomaru as his eyes turned to blood red as he glared at KyÅzame. “KyÅzame…what is he talking about? And how does he know my name? What are you hiding???” asked the Shinigami as she stood up and walked over to KyÅzame “Answer me.” KyÅzame put the tray on the dresser and turned his back to face her.

“He knows your name because you are his late wife.” Said KyÅzame as he turned his head slightly to look at her.

“What…how? Why don't I remember any of this? How long have you known?” asked Rin as her face became enveloped in confusion and anger.

“I found out yesterday. Juza did not want me to tell you. He wanted you to find out on your own. I am sorry…You don't remember anything because your memory was erased…the Shinigami who took your soul thought your death was too tragic for you to remember…he wanted you to be happy…”

“But…I see…that should have been my decision!!! WHAT IF I WANTED TO REMEMBER!!!”

“I was not even born yet when you died. Please don't act as if I did something to you.”

“You're right…I'm…I'm sorry…” she said as she fell to her knees “Damn…these human emotions…”

“And you know what that means as well right?”

“That means…but-“

“Mo…mommy…” said Nikko as a tear fell down her cheek. She walked over to her and stared into Rin's eyes as her body began to shiver. Rin looked up to face the child standing in front of her. A sharp pain went through her chest as she saw the sadness in her eyes. “Nikko…I'm sorry…I…I need to leave this place…” said Rin as she stood up and ran out of the room as fast as she could. “Rin…” said KyÅzame as he let out a loud sigh. Nikko only stood there shivering as she stared at the empty space Rin had been in. “No…no…NO!!!!!” she yelled as she ran out of the room, tears pouring down her cheeks “NO!!!! I'VE ALREADY LOST YOU ONCE I'M NOT LOSING YOU AGAIN!!!!!!!!” Rin stopped in her tracks just as her hand touched the door knob.

“Nikko…I can't…” replied Rin as she grabbed the area over her chest where her heart threatened to jump out of her chest.

“Don't leave me!!! Don't leave daddy!!!”

“Nikko…”

“Don't leave us again!!! MOMMY!!!” she cried as she ran to her wrapping her small arms around her legs “PLEASE STAY!!!” Sesshomaru walked out of the room and watched as Nikko held onto Rin as if she were about to die. “Nikko…let her go. If Rin…If she wants to leave…then-” said Sesshomaru as his face became cold; he was hiding his emotions of pain and regret as he watched the scene before him. “NO! You want mommy to stay too!!! I KNOW YOU DO DADDY!!!” exclaimed Nikko as she continued to cry. “It can't hurt to stay…your daughter has missed you immensely…it's been 5 years.” Stated KyÅzame as he walked out of the room and past Sesshomaru, to stand behind Nikko and Rin “I don't mind. I'll even stay here as well if you want.” Rin swallowed, feeling her heart go back down her throat as she turned around to see Sesshomaru staring straight at her. Something inside her began to stir as his cold sorrow-filled eyes gazed at her. “My…my stomach…AHHHHH!!!!” she exclaimed as she fell to the floor on her knees and grabbed her tummy. “It…hurts…AHHH!!!!!!!” “Mommy??? WHAT'S WRONG WITH MOMMY!???” yelled Nikko as she watched her mother suffer right before her eyes. “It's the pain she felt when she died…I'm assuming every time she becomes human, she suffers…a great deal…” said Sesshomaru as he left them and went into his room, locking the door behind him.

“Why…why doesn't daddy want to help mommy?” asked Nikko as she watched KyÅzame pick up Rin and take her back into the room.

“Your father is suffering. Seeing your mother again brought back old feelings…and he is reminded of her death every time he sees her and you. He's always in pain Nikko…” replied KyÅzame as he placed her back on the bed and watched her curl up in a ball.

“Why is she suffering?”

“It is as your father said…she feels the pain from when she died…do you know how?”

“…Yes…”

“Then I do not need to explain…”

“Is there anything I can do to help…I can't stand to see mommy in pain…” she said as tears fell down her cheeks again and rolled down her chin.

“She will be fine soon…she just needs to rest and regain her energy…running like that made the pain more intense.”

“Alright then…thank you KyÅzame-san…I feel like…like I know you very well.”

“And I you Nikko.”

“Huh?” she said as a puzzled expression appeared on her face.

“What's wrong?” he asked as he raised an eyebrow behind his long dark bangs.

“Umm…it's nothing…for a minute…Never mind. Make sure mommy eats ok?”

“Of course. How about you take a nap? She should be fine by the time you wake up.”

“OK KyÅzame-san. Bye…Bye…mommy…I'll be back…I love you…” she said as she slowly walked out of the room and closed the door behind her.

Nikko stood in the hallway for a few minutes just thinking to herself about the past few minutes that just occurred. Silently, she cried as she made her way to her room and closed the door. She got on her bed and hugged her blanket and read the Rose pink writing sewn into it; it said `My Little Ball of Sunshine' and had little hearts around it. Below it, sewn in white were the words `Rin & Nikko, Forever in my Heart'; there were also hearts around it. “You're forever in my heart mommybut..I'm not in yours anymoreneither is daddy” she thought as she continued to cry into the blanket “No! I'll make you remember meboth me and daddyyou'll remember how much you loved us and how much we love youGodplease don't take my mommy away from me and daddy again

Crickets began to chirp as the clock stroke 6, as if being called on cue by the conductor of an orchestra. Their melodious music filled the dark room and danced around the dark figure lying in the bed. The cold wind howled, bringing cold air into the room as well as the sounds of the crickets and people from the streets. Cries of happiness, pain, laughter and arguing forever repeating themselves day by day as the world never ceased to stray away from the norm.

SesshomaruSesshomaruWake up my Beloved…” whispered Rin's sweet voice as she placed her hand on his cold forehead. She watched as his eyelids flickered slightly, indicating that he was about to wake up. His golden eyes blinked a few times as his eyes adjusted to the bright room.

Good morning she said as she kissed him softly on the lips.

Rin. He replied as he pulled her into a warm embrace and deepened the kiss.

You're finally awakeI thought you were going to sleep all day.

Hnn.

You didn't want to wake up? she asked as she giggled and traced random patterns on his chest.

I hadwhat you humans refer to as dreams.

Oh really? What did you dream about?

You. He replied as he began to kiss her neck.

Mmmwas it a good dream my Beloved? she said as she hugged him closer to her.

Yes butthis Sesshomaru prefers the real thing. He said as he rolled on top of her and kissed her passionately once again.

What is this smellRinJasmine and powderwhere's it coming from?” thought Sesshomaru as he suddenly opened his eyes and looked around the dark room. He then noticed that Rin was sitting on his bed looking at him. “How did I not wake from her presence as she entered the room?” he thought as he sat up and looked at her “It's because of the smell…I remember…” His heart twisted and he felt a pain in his chest as he looked at the woman before him. But somewhere deep in his cold heart, was the love he used to feel for her, but had tried to forget. It seemed nothing he did would make him forget…and now that she was back, it would never stay hidden, but he would try. Rin shifted under his gaze that bored holes into her skin, but she did not break eye contact with him. “So much pain and suffering in his eyes” she thought as she let out a sigh and shifted her weight.

“You're finally awake…” she said trying to break the awkwardness.

“Why are you here?” he asked once again putting on his cold demeanour.

“I want to…no…I need to talk to you…”

“Hnn. About what?”

“About what happened earlier. I had no idea…and I honestly don't know anything…”

“I see…”

“Sesshomaru…I'm sorry…I-”

“Will you leave?”

“What?” she asked as her eyes widened slightly.

“Knowing that Nikko knows…will you…no, can you leave?” he asked, his face never showing any emotion except for his eyes that showed he was in deep pain.

“I…I…I will make her forget if need be, but I canno-”

“You will do no such thing. If you do leave, at least let her remember you…she has no memories, nothing to hold on to. Can you take that away from her?”

“You are…compassionate…maybe that's why…”

“It is. Only to her…Her happiness is important…I will find a way to stay in this world so that she doesn't have to go through the pain of losing both her parents.”

“I'm sorry…I wish I could remember my life with her…and you…all I remember is the painful feeling I had before I died.”

“Do not apologize to this Sesshomaru.” He said as he stood up and looked out the window. The heavy rain crawled down the window like a million spiders going in every direction. “Sesshomaru…I-” she said but was interrupted by the door opening and Nikko yelling “MOMMY!” Sesshomaru swallowed hard in his throat as he walked past Rin who was now being hugged by Nikko. “Nikko, I'm going out.” He said as he walked down the hallway without waiting for a reply.

Nikko frowned and stared in the direction her father had gone. Rin looked down at the little girl hugging her, opened her mouth to speak but couldn't find the words to say. As if she knew, Nikko looked up and smiled brightly at Rin who looked sad, but smiled back as well.

“Daddy is…he's mad at you isn't he?” asked Nikko as she sat on Rin, who was now sitting on the edge of Sesshomaru's bed.

“Ahh…he's not mad at me…it just hurts him that I don't remember anything…” replied Rin as she looked into Nikko's cheerful brown gold flickered eyes.

“It hurts me too…I barely remember you…I didn't even know what you looked like until now…Daddy won't talk about you…”

“I'm sorry Nikko…If I had the choice…I'd want to remember…but I-”

“It's not your fault mommy! Everything will be ok!”

“What? How?”

“Nikko will fix everything mommy…don't you worry!” she exclaimed as she kissed Rin on the cheek, jumped off her lap and went scurrying out of the room. Rin sat there confused as to what Nikko was talking about. “I wish things could be fixed Nikko” she thought as she felt an odd feeling stir inside her “What is happening to me

“KyÅzame-san!!!!” exclaimed Nikko as she ran into the kitchen. She looked up to see KyÅzame chowing down all of their left over food from the night before. She went into a fit of giggles before catching her breath and walking up to him.

“KyÅzame-san! You have to help me with something!” she exclaimed as she sat on a stool next to him.

“What do you want me to help you with Nikko?” he asked as he smiled down at the little girl beside him.

“You have to help me fix everything…I don't want mommy to leave…”

“Nikko…”

“I DON'T WANT TO LOSE HER!!! Not again…not again KyÅzame-san…not again…daddy and I can't lose mommy again…” she said as tears began to fill her eyes again.

“Alright Nikko…just don't cry…please?” he asked as he whipped one tear away from her cheek.

“Ok…”

“What do you want…or intend to do? Does she even want to remember or even want to st-”

“She said if she had a choice she'd want to remember.”

“I see…well what do you need my help for?”

“We're going to do exactly that KyÅzame-san…yes, we'll make her remember!”

“What about your father Nikko? Is he ok with this?” he asked as he raised an eyebrow in her direction.

“Daddy doesn't know…but I know…I know in here…Mommy told me it's called faith…I know that Daddy wants mommy to stay as much as I do…I just…”

“Alright Nikko, I'll help you.”

“Really? Really?? You will KyÅzame-san? Thank you so much!!!” she exclaimed as she jumped from the stool and hugged him.

“Yes Nikko. I will, after all he's…”

“He's? Daddy's what KyÅzame-san?”

“It's nothing you need to worry about. Call me KyÅ.” He replied as he smiled and patted her head.

“Alright! Thank you KyÅ! Come on! We have to start now!!!” she exclaimed as she pulled his arm and led him out of the kitchen.

Sesshomaru sat in the café and looked out the window as the rain poured down, drowning the city in what seemed to be a never-ending water festival. He did not normally come to places like this, but he wanted to talk to Inuyasha about what was happening. Looking out the window again, he sighed; it was as if the city would soon turn into a water world. The sound of rain soothed him a great deal and seemed to wash all of his troubles away. It was the only sound other than Rin's or Nikko's heartbeat and laughter that would calm him down immensely.

He closed his eyes as he began to remember Rin's childhood. She had always been a quiet child, always seemingly pleased with nature, especially flowers and cute little animals. The world around her ceased to amaze her to no end. She could find beauty in everything, even the strangest creatures; she'd find something to love about everything and everyone. She was always so happy. Even when she died, she died in his arms with a smile on her face…it was filled with peace and love for him.

But now she seemed like a different person. She was still the same except she seemed somewhat cold and distant as well. Almost as if she had become like him. She was missing something; her happiness was no longer evident in her eyes. When he looked into her deep chocolate brown eyes he felt as if his whole world had turned right side up again, but after searching them, the love and happiness she used to have were null and void. Looking into her eyes now hurt him, and cut deep into his heart like a double edged sword. It was as if her eyes were trying to wordlessly say to him “Why did I have to die? I trusted you! Why weren't you there to save me?”

These words would constantly repeat themselves in his thoughts over and over. Not a day would go by that he didn't blame himself for her death. He felt there was something he could've done to prevent it…something he should've done.

Now he had to face reality. Rin was somewhat back in their lives again. He had never seen Nikko's eyes brighten up like that in such a long time. It made him so happy to see her happy. He would've done anything to make Nikko happy…even traded his life for Rin's own.

Rinshe really doesn't remember me or Nikko at allNikko hasn't looked that happy in years.” He thought as he sipped some of his coffee before putting it back on the black marble table. “Rinwill you vanish from our lives once again?” His thoughts were broken when he picked up the scent of his hanyou brother walking over to him. He looked away from the window and over to Inuyasha who was now getting comfortable in the seat across from him.

“Half-breed.” He said as he took another sip of his coffee.

“Asshole.” Retorted Inuyasha as he too looked out the window.

“Hnn.”

“So, what did you want to talk to me about Sesshomaru? What could have been so important that you pulled me out of a meeting at 7:00PM to speak to me? And in person?”

“I will make this very simple. Rin is back.”

“Rin is…what? What do you mean Rin is back Sesshomaru? Rin is dead. Are you finally going crazy? You've finally lost it haven't you asshole? That whole depression thing is really taking a toll on you huh?”

“Imbecile. Do not mock this Sesshomaru. Rin is back. She is…not human.”

“What do you mean she's not human? Out with it man!”

“Have you ever heard of the Violet's Black Mist and Shinigami's?”

“Yes the mist thing is some kind of phenomenon that happens every some-odd years and when it does, Shinigami's and angel's become humans on the night of the full…moon…wait! Do you mean to tell me that Rin-” he stated as his eyes grew wide.

“Precisely half-breed. Rin is a Shinigami, and is currently at my house with another Shinigami and Nikko. They are both in their human forms.” He replied as he resumed his activity of watching the rain.

“Sesshomaru…I didn't mean to joke like that…are you ok? How are you handling all of this?”

“She doesn't remember me or Nikko. The Shinigami who took her soul when she died erased her memory because they thought her death was too tragic for her to remember.”

“Does she know about any of this?”

“Yes. She apologized for not remembering. Before I knew it was her…she came to me asking me to take her to my mother. She has been cheating death for too long apparently.”

“I see…Is she going to stay? How is Nikko handling all of this?”

“Nikko is…extremely happy she's almost hysterical. I haven't seen her this happy since she was 3. The Shinigami…Rin…she was about to leave but Nikko asked her to stay…stating she does not wish to lose her yet another time…” he said as he unconsciously moved a piece of hair from in front of his face.

“I don't blame the runt for asking that…I'd do the same thing if I were in her position…”

“I suppose.”

“What do you mean you suppose you asshole? She's still your wife, even if she no longer remembers anything about you or Nikko. How do you feel?”

“This Sesshomaru does no-”

“Damnit! Stop keeping everything inside for once and admit how you feel!!! If you want her to stay just say so! Don't start that `This Sesshomaru' shit with me again!”

“…I…do not understand what I am feeling…”

“You want her to stay…it's obvious…”

“Ever since she showed up…before I knew who she was…I have been having dreams of her every night of when she was alive, and images of her death during the day.”

“Sesshomaru…you need to admit it to yourself…you want Rin to stay. Not just for Nikko, but because you need her too, even though you're too stubborn to admit it.”

“Half-breed, you know nothing. Do not assume you know everything about this Sesshomaru.” He said as he stood up and walked out of the café before Inuyasha could respond. Inuyasha sighed and looked at his brother's empty seat for a while before looking out the window. The rain seemed to sympathize with how all of them had been feeling, especially with Sesshomaru the most. It only got heavier every time something else bad happened. “But I do understand how you feel Sesshomarubetter than you think” thought Inuyasha as he gripped a locket that was hanging from his neck. He then got up, left money and a tip on the table, and then left the café in the opposite direction Sesshomaru had gone in.

Sesshomaru walked for a few minutes in the rain at a slow pace, he didn't see the need to speed up. If he went home right away he'd feel the strange feelings he felt earlier come back faster. Those feelings clouded his mind and he wasn't sure what they meant exactly; but he knew one thing for sure, he did not like being able to feel so much.

He suddenly came to a stop in the rain and stared up at the violet and navy blue sky. It resembled ink…dark and with a murky consistency that made the atmosphere appear eerie and mysterious. It made those who stared at it to ponder…what was happening up there that was powerful enough that it could change the course of events so easily. “HnnGod is it?” thought Sesshomaru as he made his was through the cold night.

A few hours had passed and it was now 8:00PM. Nikko and KyÅzame had found out where Sesshomaru had hidden all of Rin's old clothes and were looking through them. He had had a hidden storage space built into the wall above his bed behind a large traditional Japanese painting of a mythological war between a great dragon and a small village. Nikko often liked looking at this painting when she snuck into Sesshomaru's room in the middle of the night. One day she became curious and asked him why he had it and he had told her it hid many precious memories for him. Now she knew what he meant.

Inside the storage space was a massive wooden mahogany box filled with old pictures, photo albums, keepsakes and clothes, most of which belonged to her mother. KyÅzame brought the box into Nikko's room and they began taking out everything immediately and looking through the old forgotten memories. KyÅzame found a smaller wooden box inside filled with letters written by Rin. She wrote the first letter to him the day after she, Kagome and their mother thought their father had supposedly `died'. Nikko looked over at KyÅzame who seemed to be reading it. “What's that?” she asked as she hugged a small brown bear in her arms that she had also found in the box. The bear was very old and worn, with her mother's name sewn into the bottom of one of its feet. “It's a letter your mother…Rin wrote to Sesshomaru when she was still 16.” He replied as he handed it over to her. Nikko took the letter in both her hands after putting the bear beside her and began to read out loud:

“Dear Sesshomaru,

Forgive me for not using any formalities. I would like to thank you for listening to me yesterday…um…I don't really know where to start but…despite the fact that other people think you are cold, I think the exact opposite. One so cold would not show any compassion to a young girl such as myself. I'd like to believe otherwise…No. I know that you are not truly that way. As mush as you try to hide it from everyone else, I am able to tell…quite easily.

When you pretend to be annoyed by me, when you act like you can't bother with me. I know you care about me a lot. And I care about you…I shouldn't be speaking this way…you're my mother's business partner and I'm a 16 year old girl…but, I have to say it. I know you care more than you'd like to admit. I don't know why and I'm not asking you to accept it or tell me but I will find out one day.

When I do find out, that will be one of the happiest days of my life.

I think I've taken too much of your time. I bet you were even thinking of throwing this away. Now I know I'm probably really annoying you, so goodbye Sesshomaru. Thank you for making me want to stay alive a little bit longer. I'll stay alive…for you.

Forever Yours,

Morizaki Rin
Rin~”

“That was certainly very bold of mommy to do. Most people find him scary.” Said Nikko as she placed the letter back in the box with it's others. “She's always been rather bold. Mo-…ah! Never mind that. How about you look through some of those old clothes?” said KyÅzame as he pointed to the pile of folded clothes that were on her bed. Nikko, seemingly a bit curious as to what KyÅzame was going to say, got up and sat on her bed and began looking at them.

There were mostly sun dresses in the pile, along with a few raincoats (it seemed to rain a lot there), some sweaters, a few shorts and jeans, babydoll tops, some skirts and a few traditional kimonos. “This dressit looksfamiliar” she thought as she held the dress up in the air as high as her little arms would allow her to. Suddenly, an image of her running to her mommy in a field of flowers appeared to her. “Now I remembershe wore it on that daywith” she thought as she began looking through the box for a necklace. “KyÅ, have you seen a little necklace with a crescent moon pendant on it?” she asked as she kneeled down. “Ah yes, I did. I found it earlier and put it inside the box with all the letters.” He said as he handed her the box. She took the box, nodded her thanks, picked up the dress and ran out of the room with the necklace and the dress in her hands.

“MOMMY!” yelled Nikko as she ran back into the room Rin was staying in. “Hmmshe's not herewhere could she have gone to?” she thought as she went out into the hall way and yelled again. This time she turned her head to see that Rin was standing at the door of her father's room, not moving. She wondered if perhaps something was wrong with her again. “Mommy…are you alright?” she asked as she walked over to and stood next to her. Rin did not answer her. She only had a confused expression on her face and seemed to be staring at different parts of the room. The way her eyes moved quickly around indicated she was either inspecting it or searching it for something important. Nikko let out a breathe she hadn't realized she'd been holding and decided to try again.

“Mommy?” she said as she tugged on her cloak with her free hand. This time Rin looked down at her.

“Ah, yes I'm sorry. I'm…I didn't realize you had said anything.” She replied as her hand went to her neck as if wanting to grab an invisible necklace.

“Mommy, are you alright?” she asked, her eyes staring at her mother's hand that was over her throat.

“Yes. But I feel somewhat…drawn to something. Maybe it's not here anymore.”

“Is it this?” she asked as she held up the crescent moon pendant and gave it to her mother.

“I feel as if…I've seen this before…” she whispered as she moved the hair from around her neck and kneeled down in front of Nikko so that she could put the necklace on for her.

“It's yours. Daddy gave it to you a long time ago.”

“It has a strange aura coming from it.”

“Mommy, will you do me a favour?”

“What is it?” she asked with a curious look on her face.

“Wear this? You are going to be a human for a while. You should at least try to dress normally.”

“Alright then.” She said as she took the dress and looked at it. The dress was beautiful with a long “V” neck in the front and two small strings on either side that tied together in the back. It was a soft baby blue with white carnations and pink cherry blossoms blooming off it, fading in every direction. It was also slightly puffy at the bottom and stopped at her knees. “It's so beautiful…”

“It's your dress mommy.” Said Nikko as she grinned from ear to ear knowingly, as if she was up to something. “Now go on…go put it on! I'll leave out a sweater for you to put on as well. You can use daddy's bathroom.” She quickly ushered Rin into her father's bathroom before dashing out of the room, smiling brightly.

Another hour had passed and Rin had not come out of the bathroom yet, neither had Sesshomaru returned. Nikko was growing impatient and somewhat saddened again. Before she could go further into her thoughts, the sound of the microwave going off caught her attention. KyÅzame got up, took the food out of the microwave and placed it in front of Nikko. She had taught him how to use it in a few minutes. She looked up at him, let out a long sigh and said “No thanks KyÅ. I don't think I can eat anything right now.” KyÅzame raised an eyebrow and handed her a pair of chopsticks before pouring her some apple juice and placing that in front of her as well. “Doesn't matter, eating will take your mind off of everything for a while. Just have some.” He said as he sipped some of his drink as well. Nikko was about to open her mouth to speak when the sound of the front door being opened caught her attention. “I'll get-” she exclaimed but was cut off by KyÅzame shoving a piece of food into her mouth and motioning that he'd go and see.

Sesshomaru entered the apartment, drenched from head to toe. It was never like him to look this way. His clothes stuck on to him as if he had plastered glue to his entire body, his hair which was normally free-flowing and appeared to float, hung down as if it had been attached to some heavy weights, and his bangs covered his eyes partially. He walked right pass KyÅzame who glared at him and said “Do you always leave for this many hours and don't tell Nikko anything? Stop being selfish and think of others.” Sesshomaru stopped in his tracks but did not say anything as he continued to leave wet shoe marks on the floor, making a slippery squish sound as he made his way to his room.

As he was about to turn the knob to open it, he noticed it was already being open by someone else from the inside. “Someone's in my room?” he thought as he watched the door open slowly to reveal something he never thought he'd see ever again. His eyes widened and his breath hitched in his throat as he stared down into the dark chocolate pools that whispered something to him that only he could understand.

Feelings he thought he had hidden and locked away deep in his heart threatened to go bursting out of him. His eyes showed only one emotion as his heart beat and his pulse quickened with the next words that were spoken. “Sesshomaru…You're back.”
