Chapter 1 - The Future.

Side Info - Year 2145 - The human race is at war, on the global scale. Youkai have been brought into the war, but before that happened an Act of Faith was put on the books, making it illegal for any Youkai or hanyou to possess their `gifts' Precious few youkai have their gifts and they all know each other.

The term `gifts' in this story refers to youkai senses.

Two figures walk briskly down a darkened hallway, the lights flicker it seems with each step. The distant sounds of thunder could be heard through the thickened walls, but they knew it wasn't a simple storm like they hope for every night before they close their eyes for the few precious hours of sleep they each get.

The world was in chaos, at war and for now their side was holding their own. They came face the final door at the end of dark hallway; each slipped a glove off of one hand and placed it on the scanners on either side of the door. With a soft whisper the door began to rise as the figures replaced their gloves and continued into the room.

They stopped just in front of a large oak desk, sorely out of place in this time, but beautiful none the less. The figure behind the desk looked up from his papers and scowled.

“How many times do I have to tell you two to bring us a captive that is still functioning? That was your 6th mission to bring one in and you did, barely. They couldn't retrieve anything from its hard drive.”

“General, we finished our mission, it's not our fault your top notch technicians can't crack it. The old man could have done more than them.” The female snorted at the General.

“General Sesshomaru, what is our next mission. That same as the last or can we go to help our platoons now.” The male soldier slowly questioned him.

General Sesshomaru, one of the last known full Youkia with his gifts. He lived through the ages and never thought he would see the day when youkai would be forced to give up something so vital to them. He was Lord of the Western Lands and not about to give up his `gifts' as they have coined them.

He narrowed his gaze on the female of the two soldiers in front of him.

“This Sesshomaru doubts that half breed Inuyasha could have done anything with it except pound it into the dirt. Speaking of which, where is your father?” he asked, not quite sure if he wanted to know the answer.

“The old man is safe, I made sure of it Uncle.” She smirked.

“Koden how many times have I told you not to call me that in front of other army personnel?” he snorted back at her.

“Relax Uncle, its Kyohaku.” She smiled as she took off her helmet and facial gear and shook her hair and ears free. Koden looked over to Kyohaku as he took off his gear and grinned at him.

“Enough with the display Koden.” Sesshomaru snorted as her rolled his eyes and went back to reading his paperwork.

Koden, daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome, and a hanyou. She attained all of her fathers' gifts and looks, except she had her mothers' hair colour. This made her eyes all the more striking. She was her fathers' daughter to the letter. She made sure of it. Koden glanced over at her mate, Kyohaku.

Kyohaku, son of the wolf demon prince Kouga and Ayame; and a youkai. He was a solid combination of the two but had all the spirit and stubbornness of his father. Koden adored him. Both of them had their gifts, but not without a close call in Koden's case.

“Where is your mother, Koden?” Sesshomaru asked without looking up from his papers.

“Like I care where she is.” Koden snorted as she crossed her arms over her chest and turned away from Sesshomaru. Kyohaku glanced at her with a sad look. Kagome was the cause of Koden's close call with almost loosing her gifts. Koden looked at the numerous monitors as she began to relive those final days.

*~Flashback - 5 Years Earlier~*

“Mother, I am not going to that clinic. You want me to give up something as important as this? You have got to be out of your Kami forsaken mind!” Koden bellowed at her mother, Kagome.

“You will not take that tone with me Koden, I am your mother, and I know what's best for you.” Kagome shot back as she wagged her finger in her daughters face.

“Yeah just like you knew what was best for my father too? And you wonder why Uncle came to take him away after he learned what you did to him. Forget it mother, I will not bow to you on this, you will not take this away from me, like you took it away from father.” She snorted at her mother.

Koden turned to leave the room, she reached down to grab her hockey bag full of belongings and then she felt something strike her in the arm. She snapped her head to look and there was a syringe being emptied into her arm. She growled and looked at her mother.

“Koden, this will be done, it will be safer for you in the long run.” Kagome spoke quietly.

Koden reached over and pulled the offending pain out of her arm and turned on her mother, giving a feral snarl and stalking towards her. “You are just like all of the other humans, your jealous of what I possess and what father did possess.” She swiped her claws towards her mother, and slowly fell forward as the drug began to take hold. Kagome `eeped' and backed away from her daughter, pressing herself against the wall as she watched her daughter slump to the floor in a dazed state. “Uncle and the old man where right, you have changed. Nothing but a stupid, vapid, petty bitch. Just like the rest of them.” Koden ground out as she fell silent on the kitchen floor.

Kagome looked over her daughter and whispered, “I will not change my life again, I already changed it once because of your father, and it was his turn to do the same for me.”

*flashback continued in Koden's POV*

I awoke to a faint beeping, and a horrid smell that stung my nose. Panic seized my every fiber. I slowly opened my eyes and was instantly hit with bright lights. I twitched my ears and slowly sniffed. She was here, but on the other side of the wall. I looked over and through the large window I saw my mother talking to two doctors.

“Oh your awake, we thought the sedative would hold long enough not to cause you pain.” A female voice sadly spoke. I snapped my head to look at her and instantly knew she was youkai, but her gifts were taken from her. Tell tale marks, both her ears clipped with a V mark and both pierced with silver hoops right under the marks.

I snarled at her and tried to swipe at her but found my arms and legs bound to the table. I began to thrash around. She boldly stepped forward towards me; I could tell she was terrified, I could smell it. In a small whisper, she knew only I could hear, “Be still, I am one of Kouga's pack. Kyohaku is coming for you. Both your father and uncle know what is going on. They will come for you, but you need to settle down. You need to be awake for when it happens. I am happy to be able to help you, so be ready for when I release the restrains.” She gave a small smile.

No sooner as she finished the doctor and my mother stepped into the room. “Well it seems you are awake, you know the Act of Faith regulations, and your mother has signed us permission to complete the necessary procedure.” The doctor said with a smirk.

“She's not my mother.” I snorted and looked away from her. “She died just before my fathers gifts where taken.” From then on I called that woman Kagome, my mother died that day.

“Koden.” She chided. “I am still your mother, if you like it or not.”

“Bitch!” I yelled back at her. “I am the daughter of Inuyasha Taisho, niece of Sesshomaru Inu no Taisho, Lord of the Western Lands, but I will never be the daughter of a stupid, petty nigen.”

The doctor smirked again, I imprinted his scent on my memory, I knew I was getting out but I would be back for a visit with him. “Lets get this over with, nurse hand me the markers and the piercing gun.”

I watched her, the nurse from Kouga's pack; I will thank her once I get out. She purposely moved slowly, as if she was carrying out the most delicate operation. She slowly handed the tray with the requested items over my chest to the doctor. He smirked again.

`You fucking bastard, you wait till I come for you.'

Kagome stood at the head of my bed, with a bored anxious look. She knew what I said was true, and crossing the old man and Uncle was not a good thing. She watched as the doctor took one of my ears and pinched it painfully. I howled. I saw Kagome flinch out of the corner of my eye.

“None of that, you dirty hanyou.” The doctor spoke with a gruff condescending voice. I went wild with rage inside; I started to fight the restraints. I howled again suddenly as I felt him clip a piece of soft skin out of my right ear, and then quickly proceeded to pierce it with the silver hoop.

He was in the process of walking around the foot of my bed to continue on with the other side as I head a hard thud against the door. I smirked as I turned to Kagome.

“Run Kagome, they are pissed.”

Her eyes went wide with fear, and my youkai loved it. But no sooner had I finished that sentence I hear the infamous bellow.

Kongousouha!

The walls tore apart in seconds. I looked and saw the last few youkai who had their gifts standing there, itching for a fight. I broke down as I saw Kyohaku walking into the room, flanked by Kouga, Ayame, Sesshomaru and my old man. I strained against the bindings, just as I was about to cry out the doctor grabbed my other ear quickly and clipped another piece of my skin free from my ear. I howled so loudly, and then suddenly I noticed I was free, the nurse held up her word, now she stood beside Ayame.

I whirled around gathering all what my senses told me, the old man was here and was bellowing at Kagome with Kouga's help. The doctor stood in shock as I flipped off the table and stood beside Kyohaku, who whispered a quick greeting. He handed my sword, Koudou to me. I unsheathed it and smirked at the doctor.

“Ain't so cocky now, are ya?” I smirked at him, showing my fangs for good measure. “Koden, This Sesshomaru will deal with him, help your father.” he spoke as he faced up to the doctor who was now close to soiling his pants from fear.

“Oi, old man, let's go, don't waste your breath on her. I don't know her, my mother died long time ago.” I said harshly, watching her flinch with each word. “Let's go I need to tend to these markings and see if I can get this damn piercing out.” I spoke with a tired voice. Kyohaku wrapped his arm around me and I practically fell into him as we lead the way out of the destroyed clinic, leaving on very terrorized doctor, and a woman, who couldn't help to think where she went wrong.

*~ End Flashback~*
(AN - Sorry about the long flashback, but it's important to the story)

Koden shook her head and snorted as she dispelled the memories from her head. She looked over to Kyohaku who was discussing their next mission with Sesshomaru. Kyohaku was her reason for living, her drive to moving forward each day, her prize to claim each time they won a battle. She gave him a small warm smile as he glanced over to her as he stood up.

“Koden” he said quietly, “I have to go and try for another one of their soldiers. You are to stay here.” He quietly commanded. She looked at him in utter shock. “No fucking way, we've done every mission together, I will not allow us to be separated.” She snarled out. “We are mates Kyohaku, we live, fight and die together.”

“Commander Taisho stand down,” Sesshomaru barked quickly at her. “We have come across information that we, the last true youkai's are ultimate targets. And you being one of the two last females are bigger targets.”

“General” she ground out, “I knew this all along, both of us did, that is why Ayame and Kouga are in hiding and we are taking up the front lines for them.”

Sesshomaru shot up out of his seat, “Command Taisho, Commander Ookami, this is your last mission together, and you will bring in a functioning informant from the other side. After this is complete, your missions will be separate, due to the risk being too high for both of you being killed on one mission together. Is that understood?” Sesshomaru looked to both soldiers who stood at attention in front of him.

“Yes General Sesshomaru,” Kyohaku answered but worry was in his voice, his face how ever told no emotion.

Koden's answer was exactly as Sesshomaru predicted; the same as her father, “Keh!”

Both soldiers started to gear up, replacing their gloves, facial gear and helmets. Sesshomaru looked them over, and handed them their orders in micro disk to Kyohaku as Koden loaded up her weapons.

She pressed the barrels of her two energy guns against her forehead and whispered, “For the old man.”

“Let's go koi.” Kyohaku stated as he finished loading his weapons. Both bowed to Sesshomaru.

“Tell that half breed he is missed around here.” Sesshomaru snorted out.

Koden and Kyohaku grinned at him, and then waved as they stepped back out into the darkened hall.

*~ Two Days Later ~*

They came under heavy enemy fire as they came close to the front lines. Disabling three times as many enemies as one of their platoon members, Koden and Kyohaku charged through the chaos in order to capture one of the leaders of the enemy.

“Koden, get your ass in gear! He's near by!” Kyohaku bellowed out at her above the surrounding noise.

“Kyo, you say that one more time and I will hand your ass to you when this is done!” she yelled back. Koden cleared the small perimeter as Kyohaku got closer to the leader of the opposing platoon. She had gunned down everyone and finally made her way to the last one standing. She took a long deep breath and caught his scent. Her eyes widened in surprise and then she smirked. It was the doctor that tried to enforce the Act of Faith on her. She unsheathed Koudou and held it to his chest.

“Well, well, well doctor. Looks like the dirty hanyou turned the tables on you. War is a dangerous place, you don't know who you will run into.” She smirked as she took off her facial gear, gleaming her fangs at him. “It's you.” He stammered. “Paybacks are a bitch and so am I.” she growled at him. In one swift motion she swung Koudou and watched as the doctors blood sprayed all over her sword and forearms.

“Koden!” Kyohaku yelled at her, “A little help would be nice wench!” She snapped her head to look over at Kyohaku, who was face to face with the opposing platoon leader. She quickly replaced her facial gear and ran to help. Quickly cutting the half machines legs off, Koden came face to face with it.

“Youkai, hanyou, main targets, destroy at all cost. Eliminate!” Its broken voice rang in their ears. The being clicked several time and began a vocal count down.

“Koden! Get away now! It's on self destruct! I have to try and disarm it and bring it in for the General.” Kyohaku yelled at her. “Hell no, I'm staying with you.” she yelled back at him. “Dammit there is no time for this!” Kyo yelled out. He grabbed Koden's wrist and began to run away from the half machine leader. They were just about to pass one of the last remaining trees still standing and Koden looked up and whispered, “Goshinboku.” Just then the machine began its final seconds to the energy overload.

Kyohaku was on the radio to the General, quickly running through what was happening; Koden suddenly grabbed his hand with both hers and broke into the radio transmission. “Uncle, tell my father I love him, and I love you too. Kyohaku, I think it's our time koi.” She spoke with her voice faltering. They didn't hear Sesshomaru trying to raise a respond from them or for him barking out orders to the nearest platoon to head to their location.

Both Kyohaku and Koden looked back and the ticking time bomb and braced. The machine finally blew apart sending a halo of pure energy around it as it blew it's self into oblivion. The energy wave knocked both Kyohaku and Koden off of their feet, Koden was screaming as they flew backwards into the dirt. Just as they thought they had stopped the ground gave way from over them and a bright blue light enveloped them. Koden held onto Kyohaku for dear life as both of them lost conscience before they hit the ground again.

Some time later Koden awoke, and slumped off of Kyohaku's chest. She tried her radio, but it was dead, she had half energy resources on her guns, but she still had Koudou with her. Kyohaku woke soon after her, both in pain. They both stood and looked around, they didn't recognize this place, this was untouched by the wars. Green grass, clear blue skies, living things everywhere, basically, they did not know where they where.

Both Kyo and Koden caught the footsteps of someone approaching; simultaneously they both drew their guns and pointed them in the direction of the sound. Out from the trees came a figure, neither one expected to see in a place like this, or dressed in fine silk kimonos with ancient armor.

“General Sesshomaru.” Kyohaku whispered.
“Uncle?” Koden questioned as her eyes went wide.
