Last Time:
They both stood and looked around, they didn't recognize this place, this was untouched by the wars. Green grass, clear blue skies, living things everywhere, basically, they did not know where they where.
Both Kyo and Koden caught the footsteps of someone approaching; simultaneously they both drew their guns and pointed them in the direction of the sound. Out from the trees a figure slowly walked towards them, neither one expected to see in a place like this, or dressed in fine silk kimonos with ancient armor.
“General Sesshomaru.” Kyohaku whispered.
“Uncle?” Koden questioned as her eyes went wide.
*********************************************************
A younger Sesshomaru slowly turned his head as he heard Kyohaku's whispers of an astonished greeting. His eyes slightly narrowed at the word Koden breathed towards him. He turned fully towards the two and narrowed his gaze on the strange objects they had aimed at him. He watched as they lowered them and bowed slightly towards him.
`General? Maybe…but Uncle? That half breed has yet to take that wench of his for a mate.'
Sesshomaru regarded the two figures as they bowed to him. He could tell no different between the two, both had full solider armor on, armor he did not recognize, covering their entire body, faces and heads, except one held a sword on their hip. He sniffed lightly, trying to pick up their scents, but none came from them.
“Who are you? And why are you on my lands?” he questioned icily.
The two figures in front of him stood up and looked at each other. The female gave a light laugh, “Feh, the old man was right, you really were a nasty ass back when you were younger.” Kyohaku grinned under his mask.
“General Sesshomaru, if you allow us, we will disarm and reveal ourselves.” Kyohaku stated formally. Sesshomaru regarded them for a moment and then nodded. He closed the distance between them as Koden and Kyohaku began to unzip the top half of their uniform.
Koden shrugged off the top half of her uniform and let it hang from her belted waist. Underneath she had on a black t-shirt with a version of a dark red Kevlar vest that covered her chest and part of her stomach. She twisted around to free Koudou and Sesshomaru saw that is covered her back as well. Koden looked over to Kyohaku who nodded silently. Both at the same time they took off their helmets, and then slowly released their facial coverings.
Kyohaku looked straight at Sesshomaru, and watched as Sesshomaru took in his scent. Kyohaku crossed his arms up over his chest as he watched Sesshomaru slowly come into a realization of who he was.
“My name is Kyohaku, son of the Wolf Prince Kouga and Lady Ayame. Commander under General Sesshomaru Inu no Taisho of the Youkai Soldiers.” He stated with authority and then he bowed. Sesshomaru digested the words slowly. And then he turned to the other soldier.
“My name is Koden,” she spoke out as she took off the remaining facial gear and looked straight at Sesshomaru in the eyes. “Daughter of Inuyasha Taisho, niece of Sesshomaru Inu no Taisho. Commander under General Sesshomaru of the Youkia Soldiers.” Sesshomaru's eyes took on a brief glint of surprise. He breathed deep, memorizing their scents, and then spotted Koden's ears, both branded, and one pierced. He growled at her as he walked towards her.
“What did you let some nigen do to your ears? Those markings are a disgrace and mark you as weak.” He snarled at her. Koden was fit to kill at this point, just as she was to open her mouth and snarl back, Kyohaku interrupted suddenly.
“General, if I may where are we?” He questioned as he strategically came between Koden and the angry Lord. “Do not call me General, this Sesshomaru is a Lord, and you both are in the Western Lands, to the east is the border of Mushin.” Kyohaku digested the information and then his eyes went wide. “That means we are in Lord Kouga's land if I remember the ancient maps. And Mushin is where Commander Inuyasha is from. Well Koden, looks like we might run into our younger parents, and if I remember correctly, the territories stayed the same until just after the Feudal Era. So we must be in that time frame.”
Koden stilled at this news and then spoke harshly, “As long as I don't run into her, we won't have issues, wouldn't mind seeing a younger spit fire version of my old man.” She laughed.
“You still haven't explained yourself to this Sesshomaru, why your ears are like that.” He said with a snarl while pointing to her ears. “Let me tell you something Uncle, You better watch one of your more shady marshals in the future, say about 600 years, he's the one that helped pass the law that made is so that all youkai had to endure the `Act of Faith'. That woman who said she was my mother, made the old man go through it and was almost successful in doing it to me.” Koden snarled.
“Act of Faith?” Sesshomaru questioned non believing.
“The Act of Faith,” Kyohaku responded calmly, “was a law put in place just before the cyborg wars broke out, all youkai and hanyou must give up their `gifts' in order for the humans to trust them to join the war. The `gifts' refers to their superior sight, smell, hearing, strength and other special abilities. After the Act was completed, all those who survived it had to be marked, a `V' clipped from their ears and hoop piercing to signify that the Act of Faith had been carried out.” Kyohaku finished with a sad glimpse over to Koden, who snorted but held her chin up.
“Yeah the fuck up who tried to do it on me did the piercing first, thinking because I was hanyou I would take it like I should. Feh! The old man taught me better than that.” Koden gave a quick humorless laugh and then looked to Sesshomaru. “Kyohaku doesn't have the markings because his parents valued their lineage. There are only a handful of youkai and hanyou who have their gifts in the future. Kyohaku, his parents, you, me and the old man is regaining his slowly.” Koden spoke with a sad voice. “All because of that petty fucking nigen.” She snarled. “My father would still be in the fields, we would be done with that fucking war if it wasn't for her.”
“Koden!” barked Kyohaku. “You don't know that.”
“Oh yes I do Kyo, what other soldier has that kind of power besides Uncle? One battle and we could wipe out the entire opposing forces with Wind Scar, Dragon Strike, Kongousouha, and Twin Dragon Death.” She snarled.
“Do what you will in this time, but if there is a war continuing, I suggest you return quickly.” Sesshomaru stated and he turned on his heel and began to walk away. “Easy for you to say General” Koden sneered. Sesshomaru did not stop his walk.
“Well that went well, I guess.” Stated Kyohaku half questioning Koden. All she did was snort. “Well let's gear up and head out, but the looks of things we have to find shelter and food for the night and try and figure out how to get back to our time and to restock our energy guns.” Koden nodded as she placed her guns back into her twin holsters on her lower back. “Kyo call me crazy, but lets keep our head gear on, we don't want to give away our scents or our identity unless we have to.” She suggested. “Good idea, lets go.” He motioned as he read the manual compass leading them to the east.
They travel for a few hours in a light jog, they found that radio communication between their head sets was still plausible, but decided to use it sparsely. They came up on a stream teeming with life just before sunset. Koden quickly built a shelter as Kyohaku build a small cooking fire and went fishing. Koden just finished the shelter as she watched Kyo come walking back form the stream with six fish. Koden giggled as he just shrugged it off saying that they don't get to eat clean unfarmed fish. They ate as the sun went down, both of them in awe as the colours played across the sky, not in their life time had they seen this, and when the stars started showing themselves Koden was nearly brought to tears seeing them. Everything was taking her breath away, all the stories Inuyasha had told her when she was a child were true. She sighed as she curled up with Kyohaku, watching the stars, enjoying the stillness of this earth. It was not crying out to them, it was not bleeding, it was peaceful.
Just before she fell asleep, she wandered down to the stream, because they didn't know what would stumble on them in the night, she still had her head gear on. She washed her hands and was filling her canteen up with the clean, cool water when a noise across the stream caught her attention. She crouched low and fingered the hilt of Koudou as she radioed Kyohaku to come quietly. A few minutes later he was creeping quietly beside her.
“Where?” he asked over the radio.
Koden silently raised two fingers and pointed in the direction that the noise came from. The watched as a figure came out to the edge of the stream. Hiding in the rushes, Kyohaku nearly fell over when he recognized the armor on the figure. Koden gave him a questioning look, Kyohaku looked like he was about to jump out and talk to the person, but Koden grabbed his arm, sending her off balance which sent her tumbling into the water. The last thing she heard on the radio before she went under water was `It's my dad.'
