InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Synthetic Twilight ❯ XI ( Chapter 11 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Kouga stood in front of a group of pint-sized wolf demons, some looked over the steep, narrow path nervously, but the majority had their attention focused solely on him, "Remember, when checking the perimiter to-" he scented the air and shook his head. Nah. "Uh, when checking the perimiter to-" sniff.
"Boss?" Ginta asked as Hakkaku looked worriedly at their leader.
"Yeah? Oh, right. Where was I again?" Kouga asked distractedly.
A pudgy wolf pup spoke up, "Checking the perimiter, Kouga-sensei."
"Checking the perimiter..." Kouga mumbled. Sniff, "About that..." sniff. He turned himself to a spot in the path that overlooked a small village off in the distance and took a deep breath, his eyes widened and he turned to face the children quickly. "Well! Tell you what, you've all been great today, how about we take the rest of the day off?" A couple of the children cheered, "Great! Akiko, show them back to the den, gotta go!" he said before tearing down the path, a cloud of dust rising in his wake.
"Kouga, wait!" Hakkaku whined. "Why'd he run off like that?" he said, pouting. "He never waits for us!"
Ginta scented the air in the direction he saw Kouga facing moments before, "It's sister-Kagome!" he said excitedly.
"Oh, Ayame isn't going to be happy about this." Hakkaku said wincing.
"Who's side are you on?!" Ginta chided his friend.
"Kouga's naturally! If he interferes and gets into a fight with Inuyasha, Ayame's going to be pissed. I'm tired of sleeping outside!" he said indignantly.
Ginta flicked Hakkaku on the nose, "Use your nose! Inuyasha isn't there, it's just sister-Kagome, the slayer, the monk, a couple of other humans, and some... snake demons." he gulped. "Besides," he said crossly, "Ayame isn't our alpha and you running with your tail between your legs around her doesn't look good on our pack! Cut it out!"
Hakkaku wrinkled his offended nose and scented the air as well, "Uh, Ginta? I smell sister-Kagome's blood and the blood of another human" he said nervously.
Both of them took off running the way their leader had gone a few minutes shouting, "We're coming to save you, sister!"

Kouga watched in awe as Kagome purified the pinned demon. His mouth went dry as he watched her hips sway as she walked over to Sango to check on the slayer that had been injured during their fight. His woman was magnificent and, he noted giddily, not holding the slightest scent of her old half demon traveling companion.
Hakkaku stood, with his jaw hanging open, "Where did she learn to do that?!"
"We thought we had smelled sister-Kagome's blood on the wind, but she looks okay." Ginta said helpfully.
Kouga shook his head as he stared, transfixed on the woman, "It's just a scratch."
Daisuke watched the approaching wolf demons, warily. While there hadn't been any reports of wolves attacking humans in the last few years, the horror stories he'd heard as a boy could not be forgotton as he watched the black haired demon look longingly at his comrade. He gripped his axe tightly, "Do not stare so familiarly at one of our own!"
"Hey, she's our pack sister too!" Ginta said, sulking.
Miroku put his hand gently on the man's axe and pointed it down, "Ah, Kouga what brings you by?"
Kouga still stared bewitched, as Kagome smiled at something Sango said while dabbing the welt across her cheek, "Am I dreaming? Is this really my Kagome in front of me?" he asked to no one in particular.
Miroku grinned, "It lightens my heart to know that I am not the only one affected by women in demonslayer's garb. The way it clings to the-" Kouga walked past him.
Hakkaku frowned at the monk, "Pervert."
Miroku sighed, "Why am I always misunderstood?"

"Kagome?"
Kagome turned around, "Kouga-kun?" she asked, surprised.
Kouga gave a shout for joy and spun Kagome around in a tight hug
Sango smiled, put the cloth she was using down and walked towards her husband.
"I couldn't believe it when I smelt your scent at first, I've missed seeing my woman around!" he said happily.
Kagome laughed, "I can hardly believe I'm back here either sometimes."
Kouga sat her back on the ground, "So this is what you've been up to? Battling evil demons across the country?"
"This? Oh no, we were looking for the perfect ingredients for our world-famous fried eels! Unfortunately, the eels turned out to be snakes, so we figured, 'What the hell, while we're here..." she said with a wink.
"Is that so? I think I should visit and try them out sometime." I'm reaching here, but maybe...
"I think- I think that'd be nice, Kouga-kun" Kagome said smiling.
Kouga could scarcely believe his luck. Here he was, reunited with his woman with an open invitation to dinner without dog-breath breathing down his neck! "I saw you take down that demon earlier, impressive!" he glowed.
"You think so?" Kagome asked, blushing.

"I'm not so sure this is a good idea, my love," Miroku said anxiously. "What if Inuyasha were to come back, what would we say to him?"
"Why would we need to defend ourselves? We haven't seen Inuyasha in a year, and this is Kagome's time now too." Sango said crossly.
"I know that," Miroku said lowering his voice, "it's just that we've known where he can be found."
"Sure, we know where, just not when. Besides, he knows better where to find us, and he hasn't made any attempt since Kikyo's passing." Sango looked over to where Kagome stood with Kouga. Kagome laughed at something Kouga said, and he stood up straighter, smiling proudly. "I wanted to see her with Inuyasha as much as everyone else did, but why deny her something like this?"
Miroku put his arm around his wife's shoulders and squeezed gently, "You're right Sango, I was just worried that Inuyasha would see this as a betrayal on our part. Whoever Kagome chooses is her affair, and we just need to be supportive of her."
Souta led the demonslayer's horses and several men from the village brought over a cart. Kouga lifted Kenji and placed him gently into the cart, "I'll see you later, Kagome!" he said, turning back to the mountain. Kagome waved, "Bye Kouga-Kun, it was nice seeing you, Ginta and Hakkaku!"
The two waved as well, "Be safe, sister!" and chased after their leader.
The headsman presented Sango with a bag of coins, "We are greatful, please accept these other gifts as well," he said, gesturing to the men that had followed, carrying bolts of cloth and covered dishes sent by the women of the village.
Miroku bowed, "Thank you, please call on us again if you have need of our services."
Sango stood over Kenji, checking the sleeping boy's bandages, "We'll send someone to return the cart as soon as we reach our village."

Myoga and Shoga both bowed low on Sesshomaru's desk, "My lord, please let me introduce you to my wife, Shoga." Myoga said.
"I'm familiar with her handiwork," Sesshomaru said dismissively. "Was there any truth to the rumors your wife set out?"
"Yes, Sesshomaru-sama. The priestess is none other than Kagome, your brother's traveling companion during their quest for the jewel. She lives in the slayer's village and it appears that she has taken up their ways as a profession."
"Hn." Interesting. "What news have you on Inuyasha?"
"My contacts from the mainland have informed me that his ship recently docked at one of their busy ports, it is not expected to arrive in Kagoshima until the middle of next month, sire."
"Good. Shoga, I understand that you can control humans or demons?"
"Yes, my lord!" Shoga said proudly.
Sesshomaru gave a slight nod with his head, "I have something I need for you to carry out in the coming weeks." His lips quirked upward, the plan he was brewing would have made Naraku keel over with envy.
Myoga looked nervously at his wife after he saw Sesshomaru's slight smile, That can't be good, he gulped.

Sorry about the kind of short chapter, I didn't get to everything I wanted to with it, but I don't have too much free time this week. Oh well.
Thanks for stopping by!

I do not own any of the characters from the manga/anime Inuyasha.
