Chapter One
_________________________________________
In the midst of a cluttered room that appeared to have been struck by a tornado, a lump of what could have been a human snuggled into her pillow, a smile gracing her lips as she hummed contently. The chirping of birds could be heard outside her bedroom window as the sun shone through her white lace curtains, warming her soft cotton (thank the Lord it was not a futon) bed - in her own time and home. A pair of sleepy blue eyes opened reluctantly as the young girl glanced around her room. Higurashi Kagome sighed again as she noticed it wasn't a forest meeting her eyes but her room in present day Tokyo, Japan. Stretching languidly, Kagome sighed contently, unable to resist the temptation of laying in bed despite the fact it was ten o'clock in the morning.
`You better be back by tomorrow Kagome! If you're not I'm coming to get you!'
Kagome scowled. Of course she couldn't enjoy her Saturday morning. How could she have possibly forgotten the small factor that a two-hundred and fifty year old half-breed who acted like a five year old was going to appear at any given moment and drag her through a well into a world of demons, jewel shards and the large possibility of death? She pouted, chewing the inside of her cheek in agitation. Sure she loved InuYasha and he was her best friend. Sure he was just concerned and being protective. But sitting all morning in front of the Bon Eater's well and counting down until she was there was just ridiculous. He was worst then her Mother for pity sakes.
If she was even one second late and there would be Hell to pay.
Kagome felt her left eye begin to twitch in a spasm of anger at the memory of the last time she was late. She had been at school and had had to stay after the dismissal bell for five minutes to clean up the classroom since it was her day to do so (she had managed to skip out of the duty for the last two months thanks to her always being absent). She had just begun clapping the chalkboard erasers, her upper body hanging out of the window to not get the dust in the classroom when lo-and-behold a floating silver-hair head wearing a ridiculous blue baseball hat had popped out the `freaken bush underneath the window and screamed,
“Oi! You're late!”
Kagome could still feel the pain of falling out the window onto the ground before InuYasha's feet. She had probably sat him a thousand times that day. She could still hear his whining and accusations of throwing out his back. Kagome huffed. He had deserved every `sit' and probably more in her opinion. Stalking her around modern day Japan with just a hat to hide his identity for Kami's sake! Who honestly wouldn't notice a guy with claws, golden eyes and silver hair wearing a five hundred century old outfit with a damn sword at his hip?
"Kagome, are you up ?" Ms. Higurashi asked as she peeped in her daughter's room.
Blinking the sun out of her sleepy eyes, Kagome sat up from her bed and saw her Mother in the doorway, the laundry basket on her hip. Nodding, she yawned. "Ya. I was just about to start getting ready to leave.” Seeing her Mother's raised brow she gave her a small shrug of her dainty shoulders. “I have to go back to the Sengoku Jidia today. InuYasha's orders." she mumbled, her annoyance with the half-breed apparent in her glare.
Ms. Higurashi smiled and chuckled. How she loved that silver-hair boy! Giving Kagome a bright smile, she nodded and waved a finger at her in a chastising way.
"Okay, Kagome. But you are not leaving without one of your Grandfather's enchantments. Last time he was so crushed."
Kagome sweat dropped at the mention of her grandfather. Her cute, lovable but annoying Jii-chan had insisted for two years now for her to bring one of his 'powerful and Higurashi made' repellent scrolls incase she was ever attacked by a demon.
`I don't trust that hanyou, InuYasha. He seems to be a violent and brash demon without any thought of your safety. My scrolls would be better off protecting you then that loud, sword swinging boy.' Her grandfather had grumbled one day.
Kagome gave her mom a pointed glanced. “Momma do you really think one of his scrolls can protect me?” she asked blankly.

Ms. Higurashi blinked innocently. “Why not at all dear! But it'd still be nice to have something from your Jii-chan, right?” Not noticing Kagome's exasperated look, she then started humming and left her daughter to herself, the sound of her bunny-fuzzy-pink slippers flopping on the hard-wood floor fading away.
Rolling her eyes, Kagome stood up and tripped to her dresser. Throwing on her usual school girl outfit (she found the skirt made it easier to run from demons and straddle InuYasha's back) she sat on the floor and dragged her insanely large yellow bag from underneath her bed to the middle of her room. Her brow furrowed in concentration, she withdrew a notepad and carefully checked her list of supplies.
Medical kit
Shampoo/Soap
Ramen (Chicken and beef this time)
Chocolates (Shippou/InuYasha)
Cat food (Meaty chunks - Kirara)
Five school uniforms

Five school uniforms
Jeans/Sweaters/Shirts
Underwear/Bra/Tampons…
Kagome froze. She hadn't written that! Peering at it more closely, she felt a large sweat drop fall on the back of her head. Seeing a heart beside it, she knew her Mother had written it. Sighing, she checked it reluctantly and continued on.
History, Math, Science and Japanese textbooks
Two pairs of shoes
Toothbrush & toothpaste
Pots, pans, bowls, 5 glasses, reusable chopsticks
Kagome pushed in the last item - her papers, pens and homework. She panted as she struggled to squeeze the immense load in the already filled bag. `Come on… get in there... Fit...in...' she begged as she tried to pull the button through the hole that seemed so close yet so far.
"Kagome?" a small voice intruded the battle of the bag.
Surprised, Kagome let go of the button. Medical supplies, socks, underwear, toothpaste and much more flung from the large, bulging bag. Her black brow twitching with annoyance, Kagome turned to see Souta's shocked face. Seeing his sister's heated glare that promised him death, he slowly backed away to the door.
"Um... I think I hear Mom calling me...” he stammered before running from Kagome and her possible grasp.
1 Hour later
Heaving the extremely heavy bag and resisting the urge to groan in pain as she slowly pulled her arms through the straps, Kagome stomped her way downstairs. Three pairs of eyes widened at the image of the humongous bag on the tiny frame of Kagome.
"Mou, Kagome! What have I told you of over-packing? You will hurt your back!" Ms. Higurashi sighed worriedly.
Smiling shakily at her Mother, Kagome raised her hands in a placating gesture, as if to ward of her mother's concern. "But Momma, these supplies are really needed! Last time I didn't have enough chocolate for Shippou, the wrong shampoo for Sango which turned out that she was allergic to and not enough ramen!" she replied tiredly as she sat down in a chair, her bag pushing her off of it. Ms. Higurashi quickly came forward with a plate of food and smiled warmly at her teenage daughter.

"Somehow, sixty boxes of ramen are in that bag and forty-five chocolate bars." Ms. Higurashi stated thoughtfully, eyeing the bag with interest.
Kagome's Grandfather sputtered in amazement as Souta could only stare. "How did you manage to pack all that, Kagome?" Souta could only ask as his wide eyed fixed in disbelief on the large, bulky bag.

Standing up and leaning over the plate because her bag wouldn't allow her to sit in the chair, Kagome shrugged. "I was determined. Mmm. Good tempou shrimp, Momma." Quickly downing her breakfast and chugging a glass of water, the girl slowly made her way to the door.
"Okay I'm off! Ja ne, everyone!" she called to her staring, wide-eyed family.
“Ahem.” Kagome paused to see Ms. Higurashi come forward. "Here you forgot something." she said as she handed one of Jii-chan's scrolls.
Sweat dropping as she noticed she couldn't get away, she took the scroll. Jii-chan came forward. "Now remember Kagome. You must throw it at the demons and say the family name. Like this…” Her grandfather did a powerful stance much alike to a karate pose and threw an imaginary whatever and screamed shrilly,

“Thanks, Grandpa.”
He nodded sternly and walked back to the table, his eyes shrewd, his wrinkled lips puckered thoughtfully. Souta sat at the kitchen table his face in his cereal, his body shaking as he tried to repress the laugh threatening to tear from him. An occasional snort and cough escaped him causing Kagome to give him a nasty warning glare. He instantly sobered and gave her a tiny wave farewell. Sighing and smiling forcefully, Kagome nodded to the group as she stepped out of the house.
“Well I've got to go-“
“Kagome, one moment please! I forgot to mention we're leaving today to go to Beijing today!” Ms. Higurashi said, frowning as she tapped her chin thoughtfully with her nail.
Kagome paused and turned back. “What? You're going with out me?”
“Well the tickets were bought at Christmas, Kagome, and your Aunt Hinata and Uncle Souji have taken off three weeks from their jobs to accommodate us. After we leave, they're off to the Americas for their honeymoon for a few months.” her mother explained.
Souta pumped his fist in the air, smiling excitedly. “Ya and Uncle Souji got this awesome new motorcycle and they're talking about going sight seeing and going to this awesome restaurant that's famous all over the world and-“
Souta immediately shut up when his grandfather came behind him and slapped his hand over his mouth. His wrinkled face pulled into a serious look, his hand sufficiently held over more then half of Souta's face, the elder said,
“Your uncle has promised to bring me to the temples so I may speak to some of the monks there. I will bring you back some blessed scrolls.”
Kagome stared at her family, sad and disappointed. Yes, she remembered now. Under their Christmas tree was a nicely wrapped card with a bright red bow that Souta had opened to reveal four plane tickets to China for the summer. Kagome had been exhilarated at the thought of seeing her favorite family member, Aunt Hinata, who was beyond awesome and knew all the latest fashions. Looking to her equally disappointed Mother, Kagome sighed.
“Well have a good time. I guess it's a good thing I'm leaving to the past then for three weeks. You'll be gone this entire time and having so much fun you wont have to worry about me.” she said weakly as she forced a small smile on her suddenly tight face.
Ms. Higurashi sighed. “I'm so sorry Kagome! We'll make another trip before the end of the summer and maybe you can bring InuYasha with you!” she said happily, her usual optimism returning.
Kagome repressed the urge to shout and scream how she would rather throw InuYasha off of the plan and into the ocean then bring him with them. Giving a strained smile, she nodded woodenly.
“Sure. Why not? Well… have a nice trip! See you all in three weeks!"
The three Higurashi's stood and walked to the doorway, waving good-bye to Kagome as she headed across the shrine grounds. Her back to them, Kagome fisted her hands, her body shaking with anger. Stupid, stupid, stupid InuYasha! He somehow managed to ruin things with out even trying any more! How she wished she had some sort of excuse to not be able to go to the past like she did for school! Entering the well house, Kagome glanced at the scroll with the kanji of `Higurashi Protection' written on it. She placed it on the ground in the corner, hiding it from her grandfather. Her poor Jii-chan was disillusioned into thinking he was a priest with immense powers but unfortunately his imaginary powers were not going to save her from a demon like Naraku! She could just imagine Naraku's confused face when she stuck the piece of paper on his forehead and yelled `Higurashi!'
Her eye twitched again. If she was going to die by Naraku at least let her die with some sort of honor by having it seem she had put up a good fight. Sighing, she leaned over the lip of the well and jumped in.

A white figure silently made its way through the forest, their beauty entrancing and scaring the animals of the woods. Two golden eyes stared ahead of them coldly, set on the path before them. Sesshoumaru raised his aquiline nose to the air and sniffed it. Ignoring the world around him, he continued forward. He was searching for InuYasha's wench. Lately, he had heard of InuYasha's and Naraku's previous battles that were happening often now. Obviously Naraku was lured to the priestess who now held the last jewel shard. His white-silver hair lightly swaying in the wind, the taiyoukai began to re-evaluate his plan. He would demand details from the girl. Hopefully his annoying half-hanyou brother would not be there. Sesshoumaru's pale lips twisted in a slight sneer consisting of disgust and contempt. The reminder of the half-breed stain brought forth many contentious thoughts. The demon Lord's eyes narrowed furiously. The constant insult to his family and bloodline lived and to think he had some of Sesshoumaru's own pure blood within his puny, half-breed body was displeasing indeed.
Suddenly a blast of cheery blossoms and spiritual energy hit the demon Lord's nose. His eyes slanting, he followed the scent towards the north. The wench was nearby. Standing still, he closed his eyes, his magenta eyelids glowing beautiful in his white, perfect face. Focusing his energy, he transformed himself into an energy ball and swiftly made his way to the bearer of the scent.

Across the woods and oblivious to the white orb crossing the skies, Kagome felt herself transport into the Feudal era, the unpolluted air, bright sun and fresh atmosphere most welcomed. Feeling her feet land on the bottom of the well, she yelped as she fell backwards, her load finally winning against her slight weight. Un-strapping the bag from her back, she looked down at it, her patience already thin and being tested by the insufferable bag. How was she supposed to carry it up the well when it weighed more than her? Sighing, she chewed her bottom lip thoughtfully.
'I will just have to leave it and have InuYasha come back and get it.'
Her body tensed when thinking of the name. Imagining steam rising from her ears due to her anger, Kagome scowled. She would not think about him until she got to the village. And then she would deal the baka! She turned and grasped the green vines that lead outside the well. Slowly making her way up, Kagome smiled as the sun and forest came into view. Swinging her leg over the well lip as she balanced on the wooden edge, she stopped her movements. Her body stiffening, Kagome felt the hair on the back of her neck rising in caution. Something or someone was here... watching her. Her doe-like eyes narrowing, she looked around her and stopped as she found who she was looking for. A pillar of white stood at the edge of the clearing, their golden-amber eyes fixed on her impassively.
Sesshoumaru stared at her blankly, his eyes frigid waste lands, his face a perfect stoic mask.
`Sesshoumaru?'
Her mind reeling with shock, Kagome watched cautiously as the demon Lord walked elegantly toward her. Shaking a bit, Kagome cautiously went over the side of the well and stood her ground. His icy demeanor frightened her but she would not show him that factor. Standing firmly in place she met his amber eyes. He stopped a few meters from her, his eyes fixed on her own, his pale lips tightened at the corners.
"Miko." He acknowledged her in his cool, deep voice.
Frowning, Kagome crossed her arms across her chest. "Sesshoumaru."
Frowning, Kagome crossed her arms across her chest. "Sesshoumaru."
The two then stared at each other, appraising one another and their abilities. Blushing as he continued to stare at her, not blinking once or even a hair moving out of place, Kagome sighed,
"What do you want, Sesshoumaru?"
Sesshoumaru continued to stare at the human. She was of average look and bellow average priestess power. His eyes slanted thoughtfully, the amber-gold orbs steely and calculating. This girl was mediocre - perhaps even less. Why was Naraku so intent on her? Why was her importance imprinted in all of Naraku's plots? Annoyed by his intrigue, the demon Lord remained blank-faced.

"This Sesshoumaru requires information from you on Naraku." he stated stonily, his tone almost a sneer due to his disgust of conversing with the human girl.
Frowning at his apparent contempt of her presence, Kagome shuffled her feet as she grew agitated. "And why would you want that information from me? Why not InuYasha?" she almost choked on that name, remembering that he would be here any minute.

Glancing around her, Kagome felt her anxiety triple-fold. It was bad enough she had a homicidal demon with the power of the gods who hated her beyond all reason standing before her, very much displaying his contempt of her with his gaze, and now she had to worry InuYasha would appear at any given moment and that would be beyond horrible.
`A sibling rivalry will happen and I have a feeling the well won't be here anymore... same with half the forest.'
`A sibling rivalry will happen and I have a feeling the well won't be here anymore... same with half the forest.'
She winced at that thought. The two brothers would be so caught up trying to kill one another that InuYasha would probably Kaze no Kizu the well into oblivion while trying to hit Sesshoumaru knowing Kagome's luck. Anxious to rid of the demon Lord, Kagome looked at Sesshoumaru calmly and said coolly,
"Naraku has been attacking InuYasha a lot because we have the last shikon no kakera-"
"This Sesshoumaru already knows that. Proceed with more recent battles." Sesshoumaru interrupted swiftly, his tone steely and authorial.
Her face heating with anger, Kagome glared at him. "Naraku...." She trailed off. Something....something else was here… pricking at her senses. Sesshoumaru noticed the girl's sudden alerted appearance. Her blue eyes switching from left to right, searching for the intruder, Sesshoumaru all but sneered at her lack of tack. She had just noticed the second aura? He had sensed it since the beginning of this pointless interlude. His amber eyes narrowing thoughtfully, he remained still, only letting his eyes move. He did not want the enemy knowing he sensed him. That could be a disastrous mistake.
"Continue human." he ordered smoothly.
Kagome ceased her search for the ominous aura when Sesshoumaru interrupted. She frowned.

Kagome ceased her search for the ominous aura when Sesshoumaru interrupted. She frowned.
'He does not sense it?'
Kagome's brow furrowed in confusion. How could someone so powerful not sense something so obvious? She eyed him carefully, fixed on his stoic face. Sesshoumaru continued to remain impeccably indifferent, his face remaining as expressive as a white piece of parchment, his angelic features stonily set in an expressionless mask. Kagome stepped backwards to the well. Perhaps she should fall back into the well and leave the past until Sesshoumaru was gone. But would that not place the well in danger? What about when InuYasha appeared? What would happen to him? Her mind was reeling with confusion until suddenly a black fog started to form over the ground. Looking down at her feet, Kagome yelped when she noticed her shoes were beginning to melt, the grass dieing instantly when the thick smog came into contact with it.
Looking up towards Sesshoumaru, she saw the taiyoukai had already withdrawn his demonic blade, Tokijin, and was now glaring to the left. The sky grew dark and the once vibrant light of the sun faded away behind the purple-black clouds that had formed swiftly in the atmosphere. Jaki! It was jaki!
"Naraku." Sesshoumaru said name coldly, his golden eyes flashing dangerously in the darkness of the shadows.
A dark chuckle echoed around the pair. Kagome felt her body tense and her hands begin to sweat. Instantly she grasped the small vial with the one shard in it that hung from her neck. Naraku was here and she knew exactly why. Glancing at Sesshoumaru who remained calm and insufferably impassive to the impending battle, Kagome cursed her wicked luck for having not thought of bringing her practice bow and arrows with her from home.

"My, what an unexpected scene I have stumbled upon... the priestess Kagome and taiyoukai of the West Sesshoumaru.” Naraku stepped out of the miasma, his ruby-red eyes intent on the pair. “Could this be a romantic interlude?” Naraku smirked at the steely-eyed Sesshoumaru. “And to think you claimed hatred for the human race yet here you are quite comfortable with one of them.”
Sesshoumaru raised his head higher, glaring down his elegant nose at Naraku. His upper lip curled into a sneer. Who did this hanyou presume he was? Did he not know he was nothing more then a flea to this Sesshoumaru? His angelic features remaining stoic, Sesshoumaru repressed his youkai. He could not transform here. His upper lip curling, the taiyoukai replied icily,
“You will pay for your insult, half-breed. You dare disrespect this Sesshoumaru.”
Naraku chuckled. “Arrogant even until the end, Sesshoumaru. You pride yourself on trivial things such as honor and pride yet what have you to show for it? What has your father to show for it? A hanyou.” he taunted softly, his red eyes gleaming in the dark.
Sesshoumaru's body visibly stiffened his upper lip curling to reveal a deadly fang. His eyes slanting furiously, Sesshoumaru hissed frostily, “Everything you say is tedious.” He raised his sword, his beautiful face cold and emotionless. His amber-gold eyes slanted dangerously, the frigid depths lethally cool. “We will discuss your intentions later. If you're still alive that is.”
The youkai Lord mentally sneered at the half-breed, his claw tightening around Tokijin's hilt. Glaring at Naraku, Sesshoumaru opened some of his chakra portals, allowing some of his demon energy to silently escape into his muscles to strengthen him. He was well aware of the power and lethality of this enemy. However, he was still no match against he, Sesshoumaru. Sesshoumaru watched Naraku's back grow large spikes, his claws becoming twisted and deformed like a gnarled bunch of spiked tree roots attached to his arm. The half-breed was fooling himself into the thought of victory against he, Sesshoumaru and that was indeed dangerous. Sesshoumaru was no Tetsusaiga-flinging, screaming InuYasha with the brain of a flea. He was a seasoned warrior and a dangerous threat. His upper lip curled in distaste. The cur did not deserve to be slaughtered by him - the honor was too great for the measly dark half-breed.
"Naraku come and face this Sesshoumaru. Try and have some honor for once in your disgusting hanyou life."
A sudden burst of wind howled as Naraku stepped forward, his eyes glittering like rubies, the insanity and cruel intentions clear in their crimson depths. "Kagome, I do not think InuYasha would be pleased to see you here with his hated half-brother. " The hanyou mocked his deep voice smooth and sinister.
Her hands clenching and unclenching, Kagome maintained contact with Naraku all the while her mind was wheeling with the course of the events unfolding before her. She only had Sesshoumaru to protect her… he, the human hater of Japan and she the girl who had aided in taking his arm by giving his most despised rival, his half-brother InuYasha, the fang he had wanted for himself. Kagome inwardly groaned. So far the odds of her living this ordeal were close to nothing. Even if Naraku didn't manage to get by the demon and kill her who was she to assume that Sesshoumaru wouldn't do her in himself? Their earlier conversation, no matter how brief, was not exactly warm or even slightly durable. She glanced at the taiyoukai who remained silent, his gaze fixed on Naraku.
Why, o why had she left her bow and arrows at home? Kagome looked to the forest line, now desperate to see InuYasha. This was probably one of the few, very rare, times she would absolutely adore the image of the half-breed charging out of the thick trees, his sword raise, his insane scream piercing the air.
'Where is InuYasha? I can not possibly believe Sesshoumaru won't love to see me die!'
She pulled herself together quickly. She had no one to depend on but herself. Her little face becoming defiant, Kagome raised a fist in the air and yelled, "You had better leave, Narkau! InuYasha is coming and he will want his revenge for what you did to Kikyou!"
Naraku glared at the priestess. “You have not changed at all girl - you're still a defiant thorn in my side.” he hissed, his beautiful face twisting into a sneer. “InuYasha will never have his revenge against me, girl. The bitch is gone and soon he will join her if he is fool enough to raise his rusted fang against me again.”

Kagome watched, terrified, as the porcupine-like thorns that rose from Naraku's body elongated considerably, the tips now dripping poison at the tips. She glanced at Sesshoumaru who in turn remained undisturbed by this fearsome advancement. Kagome scowled at the demon Lord. Was he always so cold and untouched by everything around him? How could he not even blink for so long? Didn't his eyes get dry or something? She stiffened when he tilted his head to the side, allowing one slanted golden eye to catch her stunned pair.
“It would be in your best interest to head for the village, girl. I have neither the time nor the desire to protect a human.” the demon Lord announced dryly.
Kagome glared at Sesshoumaru. “Well thanks a lot. I wouldn't want you to defend me anyways!” she spat.
Sesshoumaru sensed the girl's anger and ignored her pitiful remark. She was a human - a meager being with no true worth. Why should he care if she was defenseless? Keeping his eyes forward, Sesshoumaru twisted Tokijin in his claw, more then ready for the impending battle. He would not waste anymore of his breath or his limited time with her. This meeting had been a waste of time - something that was not benedictory to him and that was truly annoying. She could die for all he cared. He had what he wanted at least; Naraku. His wrist flicking as he grasped Tokijin, Sesshoumaru swiftly attacked Naraku, lancing the demonic sword towards his smirking rival. His eyes narrowing with annoyance when he met nothing but black smoke, he looked up to see the coward hovering at least twenty feet above him.
"You're nothing but a pitiful half-breed... I've seen more than enough of your disgustingly wretched form. Fight me." Sesshoumaru ordered his eyes flashing as he raised his sword again.
Naraku hovered above Sesshoumaru, his face twisted into a furious snarl. His body shook as miasma poured from his pores, his red eyes now a brilliant crimson and glowing in the fog of his own thick smog. His teeth bared, their pointed tips elongating, Naraku landed on the ground, the ground shaking beneath him. The spikes on his back and a long his arms curved around him, the poison dripping from their tips steadily. His beautiful face was deformed in a mask of sinister fury. Sesshoumaru noted as Naraku moved from his barrier, obviously intending to bttle. Calm and undisturbed by the fearsome picture, Sesshoumaru readied to battle.

“You will pay for your impunity and arrogance, Sesshoumaru.” Naraku hissed.
In a blast of miasma, tentacles rose from Naraku, the black serpent limbs coming towards Sesshoumaru, the spikes right behind them. Seeing the tentacles coming towards him, Sesshoumaru elegantly blocked the attack, pushed back a bit from the force of the half-breed's attack. Kagome yelped in fear and stood behind Sesshoumaru. Seeing his silver-white perfect hair flutter from the rising wind coming from behind Naraku, the girl looked around her, desperate to see InuYasha or even Sango and Miroku. Hearing Naraku shout, Kagome screamed when the tentacles whipped around Sesshoumaru and headed to her. She raised her arms in front of her face, too scared to run from the impending limbs. Sesshoumaru looked from the corner of his narrow as Naraku attacked the mortal.

He began to turn his attention back towards Naraku, intending to let the girl live or die to her own success or failure, yet found himself fending off the attacks and speeding toward her, his superior speed allowing him to come in front of the priestess, his blade raised and shielding them both. Kagome froze when the pillar of white appeared in front of her, protecting her from Naraku's attack. Shaking, she looked up at him, staring at his impassive face.
“T-thank you…” she managed to stammer.
Sesshoumaru ignored her comment and continued to spar with the limbs until they finally drew back to Naraku, hovering beside the demons body. Naraku glared at the youkai Lord and Kagome, his fury and contempt directed to the pair.
“Protecting a human girl, Sesshoumaru? You are just as soft and stupid as your brother.” he snarled.
Sesshoumaru in turn glared coolly at him. “Do you think with your dirty blood, that you are my equal? You are nothing, Naraku. You will die by my claw.” Sesshoumaru stated firmly, his eyes flashing like golden steel.
Another rush of tentacles and spikes headed towards the pair. His stoic face impeccable and undisturbed, Sesshoumaru cut the tentacles cleanly with Tokijin, their inky blood spilling around him, the clang of the steel-like spikes hitting his honed blade as he efficiently blocked their attacks. Kagome watched from behind, her body shaking, willing for anyone to come save her. Watching as Sesshoumaru stood before her, every so often being forced back by Naraku, she felt her hand graze the well. She turned and looked at the ancient wooden structure, her heart leaping. She could escape through the well and save herself. She froze when she smelt the pine-sakura blend mix of Sesshoumaru. Looking up, she noticed Sesshoumaru but a few inches from her body, his silky white-silver hair grazing her face every so often as he moved gracefully to block Naraku's attempts to kill them both.
Kagome felt her stomach twist. She couldn't leave Sesshoumaru here. He had just protected her. Damning her conscience, Kagome looked to see Naraku glowing purple. She felt her stomach drop. No… he was using the shards to gather his energy! Kagome looked to Sesshoumaru who in turn remained impeccably stoic, his angelic face smooth and unblemished, his narrow golden-flecked eyes fixed on Naraku with a dangerous intent. Seeing Naraku rush forward, his tentacles and spikes protruding from him in every direction, Kagome resisted the urge to scream and close her eyes.
She had to save herself and Sesshoumaru! But how?
Smiling triumphantly, Naraku burst towards Sesshoumaru, his face now split into a menacing grin of sadistic triumph. Sesshoumaru watched in almost a bored-fashion as the incoming tentacles rushed towards him and the girl behind him. He swiftly brought Tokijin in front of his chest, blocking another spike and flipped it to the left, blocking a tentacle from hitting his shoulder. His sword and arm nothing but a blur, he kept trying to block the attacks, moving elegantly and efficiently. Then, suddenly, he froze when he heard his chest plate crack and felt it fall apart. Looking down to see two thick, poison-covered spikes breaking through his armor, Sesshoumaru tensed when he felt the two spikes pierce his left shoulder and beneath his right rib. Looking up to see Naraku laughing manically, his ruby-red eyes flashing insanely in the dark miasma smog, Sesshoumaru snarled. Kagome screamed when she saw the spikes run Sesshoumaru through, his blood splashing on her face. She looked around the demon and saw Naraku continuing his sprint towards them, his hand raised and deformed in a mangled mess of spikes and venom.
Ignoring every part of her mind protesting the idea, Kagome latched onto Sesshoumaru, hugging him from behind and yanked him with her, falling back into the well. Sesshoumaru stiffened when he felt the priestess hold him from behind and pull him backwards. Hissing when he felt Naraku's weapons slide out of his body as he fell backwards, he watched in furious silence as the half-breed disappeared in a rush of wood and vines while he fell to the well floor. The wench was not only weak but stupid. She thought to entrap them in the bottom of the well and for what purpose? Now he was not able to defend either of them! Feeling an odd sensation wrap itself around his body, Sesshoumaru tried to discard the floating-feeling as a result of blood lose. Looking up, he saw Naraku hover over the tip of the well, his claw stretched out to Sesshoumaru, his face twisted into a furious snarl.
“Sesshoumaru!” he screamed before sending a mass of tentacles and spikes down after them.
Then, just as the tentacles and spikes were but a few centimeters from the two, a blue light erupted out of the well, pushing Naraku back to the ground. Shuddering in surprise and pain, Naraku coldly looked down at his scorched chest. He raised his hand and felt the burnt pale flesh, his handsome face now void of its previous insane expression. His eyes their onyx darkness once again, he slowly rose from the ground and walked to the well. He looked down into the empty bottom, his shell now freezing from fury. If he had had a heart it would be furiously leaping in his chest in rage yet since he had discarded of the pointless organ long ago he felt only the intense increase of his cold exterior. His eyes flaring in fury, Naraku clenched his jaw, his pointed teeth grating together. They had escaped. How? He did not know. He sniffed the air around the well, his lip curling.
Magic - a very old, ancient magic that had not been seen in the world for centuries.
He stared at the well, his face expressionless. This would not do. Sesshoumaru, his greatest threat, was still alive. He had intended to dispose of the demon and had found himself more then exuberant with pleasure when he noted the annoying reincarnation of Kikyou with the taiyoukai. He had thought to kill two birds with one stone but alas they had escaped by either the girl's ingenuity or sheer luck. Naraku sneered. It was more likely the later. The girl was a fool - did she not follow InuYasha? That was more then enough proof of her stupidity. He pondered the turn of events, glaring at the well with a dangerous contempt. He would not settle for either to intrude in his plots anymore. Perhaps he could use this unfortunate turn in the events to his advantage.
Withdrawing a pale hand from the silk black robes, he placed it on the lip of the well. His eyes glowing a deep violet for a moment, a pulse hit the area, causing the grass to bend over and the leaves to fall from the near by trees. The scent of burning wood hit his sensitive nose. He took his hand away from the well and looked at the burnt spider mark on it. Suddenly thick, thorn adorned black vines started to grow from the inside of the well, closing it in their spiky embrace. Naraku watched this blankly, his face calm, his body relaxed. Seeing the last vine grow on the top, he turned and walked to the purple energy ball but a few feet from him, his long black wavy hair billowing behind him. Sesshoumaru and the priestess would never return to this world again. He had withdrawn the magic from the well and had sealed it. No magic would be able to pierce its block. Entering the purple sphere, Naraku raised a thin black brow at the well and smirked.
Then, in a burst of black smoke, he disappeared, leaving the tell-tale battle scene and the cursed well alone once again.
