(AN: This is my first Inu Yasha fic so please be kind. R&R!!!)

~*~Two without family shall wander alone With only each other to serve as a home

One shall lead him to his soul mate, the keeper of the soul jewel And so shall journey to the land of cool

The other shall lead them to a soul mate at a broken family link And so a deal shall be made and sealed in a blink

And together the shall defeat the futures terror And save their world from a time of great horror~*~

Walking, walking, walking. That's all they ever seemed to do and today was no different. At least today they were traveling a well-worn path as they searched for the latest shard holder. They had been traveling for several hours when Kagome sensed a shard ahead. To make better time Inu Yasha took Kagome on his back while Sango, Miroku, and Shippo rode on Kilala. They had almost reached the shard when Inu Yasha suddenly stopped. The others just stared. It wasn't like Inu Yasha to waste time when there were jewel shards at stake.

"Inu Yasha...?" Kagome asked uncertainly. Her only response was Inu Yasha letting her slip off his back and dropping her pack on the road beside them.

"Keep following the jewel shard that Kagome sensed. I'll catch up later." And with that he was off disappearing through the trees before any of them could speak. The others stared after him in puzzlement. Inu Yasha was never one to leave things to chance. Especially when it came to the jewel shards. Finally Kagome spoke.

"Well let's follow him." She said while moving to climb on to Kilala's back. Miroku spoke.

"Are you sure that's wise Kagome-sama? After all if Inu Yasha thinks that we should go on perhaps we should." Miroku and Sango both seemed reluctant to follow their hanyou companion. Kagome looked at them in wonder.

"How can you say that?! He's just going to be a fool and get himself killed if we let him go alone!" Kagome nearly shouted in her frustration. She could see that Miroku and Sango still weren't convinced. She sighed.

"Ok listen, Inu Yasha said to follow the jewel shard right? Well I sense a huge one in the direction he just took off in." Kagome was almost pleading now. She knew that every second they spent here Inu Yasha got farther and farther form them. Miroku and Sango looked like they were considering her answer but she could tell they still weren't totally convinced. It was time to play her last card.

"Look, I sense four really strong youkai with the jewel shards and Inu Yasha's headed right for them. He might be able to beat them but he can't know about the jewel shards. He'll need me to tell him where they are after the fight is over." Miroku and Sango finally cracked and nodded quickly climbing on to Kilala with Kagome.

Meanwhile Inu Yasha had just about reached the place where the cry had come from. He slid to a stop just inside a clearing. In a flash he had taken in the scene to one side were five wolves all laughing and pointing at the girl in the middle of the clearing who was bleeding from several injuries and facing off against three oni. All of which stood at least ten feet tall. She had given the oni as good as she got so far it seemed but she was slowly wearing down and the onis were triple teaming her.

Inu Yasha let out a soft growl and leaped into the battle delivering injuries to two of the three onis before landing beside the girl. The onis looked around stupidly for what had hit two of them and that was all the distraction they needed. Inu Yasha and the girl both pounced on the biggest of the onis doing severe damage before he managed to shake them loose. The minute he hit the ground Inu Yasha was up and had unsheathed the Tesusaiga using it to destroy one of the smaller onis while behind him another oni exploded thanks to the girl.

With both their targets dead Inu Yasha and the girl turned to the largest oni and simultaneously released two attacks which left nothing of the oni but a small heap of ash. Inu Yasha sheathed his blade and turned to the girl. He looked about to speak before he was interrupted by a familiar voice on the edge of the clearing.

"Inu Yasha get away from her! She has a huge jewel shard!" Kagome yelled while pulling back her bowstring and taking aim at the girl standing before Inu Yasha. She expected Inu Yasha to move aside and let her deal with it so they could get the jewel shards, instead he jumped back beside her and yanked her bow arm up forcing her to aim into the trees. She could hear him growling low in his throat.

"Let her be; she's a friend." His voice was gruff as he let her arm go and returned to the girl's side. The others stared curiously at the newcomer, realizing for the first time that she had ears atop her head and a tail. Suddenly Shippo scrambled down from Miroku's shoulder where he had been resting and over to leap up on to the girls shoulder. He quickly began crawling around her neck and head examining everything about her.

"Who are you?" he questioned while still examining her and managing to avoid her questing hands. Finally she managed to catch him and held him out at arms length in front of her so she could see him properly.

"Who are you?" She asked back while looking him over gingerly. He put on his best I'm kawaii face and replied.

"I'm Shippo and I'm a kitsune!" The girl smiled gently at the little boys antics.

"Well Shippo I'm Takara and I'm oukami." Shippo wrinkled his nose.

"A wolf? I thought Inu Yasha hated wolves!" Inu Yasha growled and grabbed the kitsune by his tail.

"I don't hate wolves brat, just Kouga." Inu Yasha then dropped him to the ground still glaring at him. Takara's eyes darkened and a look of anger flitted over her features.

"Perfectly understandable, after all Kouga makes it easy to hate him." Suddenly a snicker came from behind her.

"Well, well, well I come here to make sure my agents did their jobs properly and instead I find our annoyance still alive, the dog turd, and my woman being forced to be around them both." Kouga stood at the edge of the clearing smirking at Inu Yasha and Takara. Both stiffened and Takara turned a look that could have frozen water in July on him. Kouga just smirked wider and blew across the clearing to stand at Kagome's side. He quickly took her hands in his.

"Oh fair Kagome let me take you away from all this vileness. The dog turd was bad enough but when he starts consorting with traitors like that motherless bitch you have to reconsider your choice in friends." Takara snarled at him and her eyes blazed. Kouga just laughed.

"Oh poor baby did I offend you? Why don't you get your big strong protector to save you so you can see how much of a spineless traitor he really is." Kouga had just barley finished his sentence when he hit the ground hard with Takara on top of him. Kouga might have been fast on the ground with the two jewel shards in his legs but Takara quickly tore one out before having to pin him beneath her. Inu Yasha was by her side in a flash. He quickly grabbed her shoulders and tugged her up and away from the bleeding Kouga.

"Its not worth it Kara. You'll kill him easily but he still holds sway over your pack and they will seek revenge. Don't put yourself in a position where you must kill family or be killed." Takara stiffened in Inu Yasha's hold clearly still thinking of fighting despite his reasoning. Finally she backed off, but before she removed herself completely she used her claws to make an X overlapping a circular border on his neck.

"Now maybe you'll remember who the real traitor is." She hissed before allowing Inu Yasha to lead her away. Kouga scrambled up glaring daggers at Takara and bleeding from his neck and leg as well as a half dozen other points along his body. It was clear that he had been the loser of this fight but Kouga was always one for pride so he stumbled straight and spit on the ground while glaring at the two demons backs.

"You're lucky I don't want to kill in front of my woman or you would be dead and buried by now." After he saw that the demon girl had no plans of answering this insult he spit again and took off in another whirlwind. Once he was out of range Takara's muscles loosened and she sagged slightly against Inu Yasha's supporting arm. And that was when Kagome spoke again.

"Ok what is going on here?" She said glaring pointedly at Takara. Takara tipped her head up and looked at her.

"You're Kagome right?" She asked. Kagome looked at her strangely but nodded.

"Here then." She said reaching beneath her shirt and pulled out a small leather pouch and from it she removed several dozen-jewel shards, which she then pressed into Kagome's hand. Kagome looked down at the shards in shock and then lifted her head to look back at Takara.

"Thank you for the shards and all but that still doesn't explain who you are exactly." She took her first real look at the girl and gasped. The others glanced at her as she coughed and choked before finally regaining her breath.

"Where did you get those clothes?" She asked with a gasp. Takara blinked and then glanced down at her clothes before wincing at their condition. However that wasn't what had surprised Kagome but rather their overall style. The black leggings, short purple transparent skirt, black tank top, and purple zip down hoodie were definitely not something commonly seen in the Warring States Era. Not to mention her black leather three inch heeled batgirl boots and matching mini back pack.

"You've been through the well haven't you." It didn't come out a question so much as a statement. After all what other explanation could there be? Takara's eyes widened slightly as she took in Kagome's uniform for the first time. Then a slight smile made its way across her face.

"No, I've never been through the well at least not that I can remember. But I have more holes in my memory then Swiss cheese." She laughed lightly at the faces some of the others made at her comment. But Kagome merely wrinkled her nose and continued to try and pry an answer out of the girl.

"Then how'd you get all of this stuff back here?" She asked.

"I don't really know and it's a long story maybe we should wait." She glanced uncertainly at Inu Yasha.

"Hey Yaaassshhhh..." Inu Yasha quickly clapped a hand over Takara's mouth.

"Save it! I may have been away for fifty some years but you will never change. Come on we'll make camp." The others all stared in shock at Inu Yasha volunteering to make camp early. Takara however seemed unconcerned and just flashed him a smile before following in his wake. Slowly the others fell in behind them with Kagome at the rear as she glared at the girl who stood so close to HER hanyou, their heads tipped together in a lovers conversation. Of course she was better suited to him being a demon as well as a collector of the shards and yet Kagome could not help but feel angry at the girl for taking away her reason for living...the one she had given up everything for. After she had almost lost him to Kikyo she wasn't about to risk it again. Whoever this girl was. Whatever she was planning. She had to be stopped.
