InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Taming the unruly ❯ Chapter 28 ( Chapter 29 )
His sword pulsed as blood soaked into its blade. His wrist flicked, slicing through flesh. No thought flowed, only instinct and years of practice. A surge of power caught his attention. Naraku. Another flick of his wrist and a path formed through the conglomerate of flesh. Finally this song and dance was coming to an end, his mate would return and everything would go back to normal. His grip tightened around his sword as he readied himself for this final battle against Naraku.
Then he saw her. His eyes traversed her frame, landing on the oh so obvious protruding stomach. She was flustered and embarrassed judging from the way she tried to hide herself, but it was too late.
"Ana?" He asked in disbelief. That was not his Ana. Couldn't be. When their eyes locked he knew. The hurt, humiliation and pain were engraved in those dark brown orbs. He had failed her. Had allowed her to be in Naraku's hands for far too long. Sullying his mate was one thing, but this! Unforgivable was too mild a word.
His beast roared, yoki pulsing haphazardly, cutting the blast of deep lavender light that saturated the world around him. His enemy came into view, a look of utter disbelief splayed across the floating head's features. Pieces of scorched flesh showered to the earth below, some lazily bobbing about. The sound of a heartbeat caught his ear. So the maggot was able to save his heart before the blast. That wasn't gonna last for long. He darted to the left, his sword penetrating the soft tissue. There was a satisfying, horrified gasp before the thing stopped beating. He sheathed his sword. "Finished," he whispered to himself.
Now, there was only one thing left to do. He spotted her; lifeless body cradled in the arms of his brother. He landed next to them, calmly taking her body into his arms. He looked at her stomach, a growl curling his lips. "Abomination," he snarled as his claws aimed for her abdomen ready to kill the child she carried, only to see black.
ooOoo
She had never expected to break her own son's neck. Obviously, it wasn't enough to kill him, but she knew he would be furious when he woke up. "What the fuck?!" She turned to Inuyasha. The poor child was beyond perplexed. "Tell me," she started. "How would you feel if Naraku had kidnapped your miko and impregnated her?" That gave him pause. "Well," he stuttered, "if he's gonna be like that Ana can't go back with him ." He wasn't wrong. Shit, this was worse than she had thought.
"Broken?" Her head snapped towards the foreign voice, poison on her fingertips ready to neutralize the possible treat. Who was this little girl and where had she come from? She hadn't felt an energy from her. "Broken?" she asked again, pointing at Ana's limp body.
"What are you doing here?" Surprisingly it wasn't her mate's youngest, but the taijiya, large boomerang at the girl's neck. The little girl didn't acknowledge the threat. Her eyes were fixed on Ana. "Who is this child?" she asked. "Her name is Kanna. She's one of Naraku's," the girl with the boomerang answered. She swore her eye twitched at the sound of his name. "Wait," came the miko's voice stopping her proposal of getting rid of the child. "She isn't holding her mirror."
"And what of it?" she asked, turning to the miko. "Kanna is very predictable. We've fought her before, if she was going to attack she would have already." Her eyes narrowed at the girl's words. "And how do you know she won't attack us at any point, miko?"
"Because Naraku is dead and she only attacks when he says so."
"Fuck! We have a problem. We need to get Ana back to my village. Her heartbeat is getting weak." One problem after the next. "Help." The girl didn't ask this time. "Look kid we don't have time for this shit," Inuyasha commented. "Find someone else to bother."
"Wait." Everyone looked at her. "Let the child help." Her instincts were screaming at her to let the girl help, even though her mind said differently, but alas her instincts never steered her wrong.
"Are you fucking insane," Inuyasha snarled. "We don't-"
"Hush child and do as I say," she cut off. He did so hesitantly, allowing the girl to draw near. Everyone watched tensely as she pulled out her mirror and aimed it at Ana.
"Soul absorption," she whispered.
"I knew it!" the boy growled, ready to attack. "Calm yourself," she commanded. The girl showed them the mirror. It showed three souls. Ana's, the miko she harboured and… what the fuck?
