InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Tears on the Wind ❯ Quirks of a Strange Kind ( Chapter 3 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Kagome aproached "The Wall" cautiously, noting with slight fear that she wasn't there yet. Although there were three guys sitting there. Two 'Freaks' with weird colored hair and facial peircings, and a sort of nerdie looking guy.
Taking a deep breath Kagome strode confidently forward, stopping before them. They in turn looked up at the Normie before them. "Ah, so she's here!" The younger Freak, with slight more make up but less peircings declared as he eyed her. "I guess you were right Kaze. Damn." The other Freak hit Kaze lightly on the shoulder as he spoke. Kagome stared at them. They stared back.
"Come on guys, make room!" The nerd moved down and Kaze climbed into the other Freaks lap. Kagome muttered a 'thanks' and sat. Looking at the two on her left, Kagome blushed slightly at the way they held each other.
"Umm...So..."
"Well I'll be damned."
They all turned to look at her. She noted Kagome looked grateful. "I'm suprised you actually came Kagome. Not to mention the fact you've decided to enjoy their company." Kaze stuck his tongue out at her. Mimicking him, she sat down between Kagome and Mougen.
"What, shy Kagura?" She blinked. "Shy?" Leaning forward, cigarette already in hand, she quirked a brow at them. "Yea shy. What, you think we'll be grossed out or something?" She stared blankly at them. "What are you-" And then it clicked.
"You think me and her are dating or something?"
"Well yea. Why the hell else would she be over here?" She scowled at Kaze. "Why'd you tell them we're dating?" He blinked innocently at her. "Thought you were."
She rolled her eyes as Kaze leaned over across Kagome and lit her cigarette. "Sorry guys, but you're gonna have to deal with being the only openly gay couple here. Sowwy." She blew smoke rings at him.
"Well you can always join us. Make our 'crookidness' even crookeder." She laughed. "Just name the time and place luv. I'll help you make things even twisteder for the general masses." Kagome blushed.
"So why's she here anyway?"
"I've brain-washed her, and now we're going to a secret mofia meeting."
"Oh can I come? I love beheading rubber chickens!"
"Oh, and seeing all those hot mofia men in nothing but thongs and body-paint is a plus too!"
She laughed. "Alright, but you each have to give me a cookie as payment." They pouted at her. "But we don't have any cookies!" She shrugged. "Sorry boys. No cookies, no secret mofia meeting. Come on Kagome."
She lept lightly from the wall, waving lightly over her shoulder. "Later Windy my Wind Maiden!" She flipped them the bird. Then the 'I-Love-Fucking-you' sign. They cat called at her. She rounded the corner, Kagome at her heels.
"I'm suprised you actually came. Especially with those Freaks there."
"I'm suprised I did too. But why'd they think-"
"We were dating? Cause you were staring at me, Kaze noticed, so he told me to ask you out, so I told him I would."
"But you didn't-"
"I know."
"So then why-?"
"That's who we are. So of course Kaze told Kizu, and I image Mougen found out when you showed up..."
"So are Kaze and, er..."
"Kizu?"
"Maybe. Are they like, you know..."
"Lovers?"
Kagome blushed. "Yea."
"Yea. Why? It bug you?"
She eyed up the Normie girl. Kagome shook her head. "I've just never seen gay people acting so open." She shrugged. "We're freaks." Kagome nodded. "Good point."
~
Kagome's mom welcomed them with open arms, something strange to her. After all, look at the people she called parents. "Did you girls have a good day at school?" She smiled while Kagome nodded absently, brushing her mother off.
"Yea, it wasn't bad."
"Good. Would you like a cup of tea?"
"Sure, thank you."
Kagome's mom beamed. "Come on Kagura, lets claim the living room before Souta can!" bowing slightly to Kagome's mom, she wandered toward the living room were Kagome had spread books all over the floor.
Sitting down next to Kagome, she eyed the books.
"I thought we were just doing that stupid english paper?"
"Well, I have math too."
"I'm not the best person to copy math off of."
"You do better than I do."
"Mougen does better than you do."
"Ooh!"
She grinned. "But I can show you how Kaze, Kizu and I do it."
"Okay!"
~
"So if you subtract green from peanut-butter plus whipped cream you get...A very happy leprachon?" She nodded. "That too. And if you square the whip, the real answer, then average that all out you get edible thongs."
"Edible thongs?" She nodded.
"No wonder you do bad in math."
"Ah, but everything is based on numbers. We make math fun!"
"More like confusing."
She shrugged. "Whatever."
Kagome glanced at her paper. "Porno? Wait...Are you the one Mr. Taidashi was talking about, the one who wrote X equals Porno for half your answers?"
She grinned. "Yea...I would've got 'em right if he believed in our system."
"Uh huh. So what number is Porno anyway? 1?"
"No, more like, eh, 7. The first 5, especially 1, are interchangeble, as it changes with our interests." Kagome blinked. "Okay then. So dare I ask what 1 is?"
"Cigarettes."
"Really?"
"Yea, it hasn't been 1 for awhile so we thought, why not?" Kagome rolled her eyes.
"Here you go girls." Kagome's mom set a tray down before them, complete with tea and cookies of many kinds. "Wow, thanks, er, Kagome's mom." The older woman smiled at her.
"Please, call me Bonnie."
"I couldn't. No offense, but calling my friends' parents by their first name is too weird for me."
"Ah, I was the same way. How about Mrs. Higurashi then?"
She grinned. "Okay. Thanks Mrs. Higurashi."
"You're welcome Kagura."
Mrs. Higurashi left and Kagome turned to her, cookie in her mouth. "Since when are you respectful and polite to adults?" She shrugged. "Your mom's nice." Kagome blinked then shrugged. "Whatever."
-
"Can I give you a ride home dear?" She smiled politly at the older woman.
"No, that's okay. I can walk."
""Are you sure dear?"
"Just go with her. Then you know you won't be home late."
She glanced over at Kagome. She didn't really have a choice. "Well, alright." Mrs. Higurashi smiled. "Come on then!" Kagome's mom grabbed her keys and motioned her out the door.
"Oh and Kagome dear? Can you throw in a load of laundry before you start the dishes? Souta's uniform needs washing."
""Geeze mom, you know there are such things as child labor laws. Besides, I thought I'd come with."
She blinked as the other girl walked past her to the car. "Well, alright dear." Climbing into the back next to Kagome, she gave mrs. Higurashi directions.
Traffic was light and they made good time. At least she was home before dark.
"Oh, it looks like you have company!" Her heart sunk as her eyes landed on the two extra cars in the driveway. "Yea...Company..." She felt Kagome's eyes on her but ignored it. Taking a deep breath she smiled as best she could.
"Thank you Mrs. Higurashi for the ride, and letting me hang out."
"Why of course dear! It's my pleasure!"
The older woman smiled at her through the rear-view mirror. "See you later Kagome." She climbed gracefully from the car, her heart beating uncomfortably against her ribcage, screaming at her not to leave it's safety.
Turning on the sidewalk, she saluted them in her usual fashion as they drove off. "Alright, stay calm Kagura, stay calm." One of her father was bad enough, but three? "Maybe if I'm lucky mom'll kick it so they ignore me in the face of her death." She frowned at the house. "Or at least maybe she'll share the tequila tonight..."
Walking into the house, she was assaulted by noise. "Touch down!" Aparently father and his friends were watching that stupid game, football, she thought it called. As far as she could tell, they were all in the den drinking booze and eating potato chips. Glad for this, though if later she'd be glad she wasn't sure, she quietly climbed the stairs.
"Ah honey, you're home!" She gave her mom a weird look.
"I saw through the window."
"Yea...My friend's mom gave me a ride home so I'd be here before dark."
"How thoughtful."
She eyed up her mom's smile. "How come you're not asleep?"
"Oh, who could sleep with all this racket?"
She raised a brow.
"Besides, I figured I'd wait for you dear."
She eyed her mother up, dropping her bag in her room in the process. "Come on Kagura, come sit with me for awhile." She shifted guiltily as her mother gestured towards the door to her bedroom with the tequila bottle currently in hand.
Smiling tiredly, she walked past her mom into the room. After all, her mom did usually try to make everything up to her. And she did have a bottle of tequila...She sat on the bed as her mom closed the door quietly.
"So how long they staying?" Her mom frowned as she sat down next to her, pouring the contents of the bottle into two glasses. "I don't know, at least till the game's done." She nodded absently, her eyes straying to the window. At least she was semi-safe for awhile.
"To freedom?" She smiled wanly at the woman, clinking her glass against the one being held out towards her. "And football."
Taking a deep breath Kagome strode confidently forward, stopping before them. They in turn looked up at the Normie before them. "Ah, so she's here!"
