Chapter Three
Darkness and Light
Falling... Falling... into darkness... The light that once shone was now diminished. Inu Yasha looked around and saw nothing but the darkness. Nothing was in front of him, just pitch black. He would have looked behind him and explored, but he was paralyzed and he was going no where.
'Where the hell am I?' Inu Yasha thought as he stood there.
"The question is not where, but why you are here young prince." A voice called out. Inu Yasha would of jump for being scared shitless but he was stuck to the ground.
"Who the fuck are you?" He screamed.
"Young Prince it's not who am I, but what am I." The voice explained. "Inu Yasha you are the prince of darkness, but yet you have a pure heart. Are you ready to accept your fate?" It said calmly.
"What is my so called fate?" Inu Yasha yelled out. "Why is it so dark in here and why can't I move, but most importantly who the hell are you!!!" Inu Yasha screamed out.
"Please Prince just accept my offer and all your questions will be answered, and much more… The only thing I will tell you is that if you do not accept, you will be lost in darkness forever and so shall the one you will love. So do you accept?" It said cautiously hoping for not another rage breakout. Inu Yasha grunted and nodded his head. "Shall you take this path and stray from it, all will be lost. Take a step forward child."
"I'm paral..." Inu Yasha was bout to grunt but was cut off.
"You are not paralyzed no more. Turn around and step into the light my child." Inu Yasha stood there for a second before he turned about. 'Thank God my legs don't feel stiff' He thought as he walked towards a small light.
As he got closer the small light got bigger. "What the fuc..." Inu Yasha never got to finish his sentence for the light swallowed him whole.

"Young Prince... Young Prince. The time of awakening is now!" Inu Yasha slowly but surely opened his eyes. The voice that kept calling to him belonged to a young woman. She had black hair and green eyes. She kind of reminded him of his mother. She was wearing the traditional miko clothes.
"Hello child. I am Midoriko, the creator of the jewel of four souls, also known as Shikon No tama." She told him as she offered her hand to pull him up.
"Shika no takera a what??" He was confused. 'What the hell does this jewel have to do with my future?' He thought grumpily.
"It has everything to do with your destiny." She said out loud.
"How did you know what I was thinking?" He was confused. First this lady asks him to accept some kind of journey without telling him what it was about, and now she was invading his mind. What a total bitch!
"I know everything Inu Yasha. It is as simple as that. " Midoriko watched as the hanyou just glared at her. "You're wondering what the hell a Shikon No Tama is…. Would you like me to explain?" Inu Yasha did not let down his glare, but nodded a simple yes.
"Did you ever wonder why Naraku was after you and your family?" Inu Yasha shook his head indicating that he didn't know why Naraku was after his family. All he knew was that it was a longtime grudge. His let go of his glare and began to listen to the miko.
"A long time ago, before you were born, there was a queen that ruled over the Eastern lands. She was a trained miko. In fact her whole bloodline had nothing but spiritual powers. One day the young queen lost her husband, and she was being forced to marry someone else. That someone else was a man named Narako, Naraku's father." Inu Yasha's brain began to process all the new information he just received.
"Narako, was to marry an ancestor of my mother's family?" He questioned Midoriko. "Why was I never informed of this!" He screamed at her. Midoriko shook her head and let out a small laugh.
"You have your father's temper, when I first met him I knew he be a great match for my daughter." Midoriko sighed. She should have never said that, because now she had just complicated things further.
"So what if I ha…. YOUR DAUGHTER! MY MOTHER IS YOUR DAUGHTER!?" Inu Yasha was even more confused. He never met his grandmother, shit he never even heard stories about her.
"Yes. I am your grandmother." She came closer to him. She slowly put her hand to his face and caressed his cheek. "I had long to meet my grandson and granddaughters. But my time on earth was short lived. I was taken away from you and Rain when you guys were just three." She let tears slowly slid down her face.
"I used to sit with you guys on my lap and read you stories of the olden days." She smiled a sad smile. "But enough of that. The past is over, we must talk of the future. And Inu Yasha, I know what you are going to say. So let's drop the subject, right now the Shikon No Tama is more important than anything." Inu Yasha shut his mouth and nodded to tell her that she could continue with her story.
"As I was saying, I was to marry Narako, but my husband was found. When he returned home he told us it was Narako who left him for dead. When the guards went to find him, he was already gone. It would be years before he came back. And that would be his last time to come back. But it would also be mine."
Midoriko took off her pendent. Only did Inu Yasha then notice a huge jewel hanging from it. "Is that the Shikon No Tama?" He asked as she handed him the jewel.
"Yes. It is. When me and Narako battled I sealed him and myself into this jewel." Inu Yasha looked confused.
'But if she's in there then how is she here?' Things were getting way too complicated for his liking.
Midoriko smiled as she saw her grandson's face grew more frustrated by the minute. "Inu Yasha I still am in the jewel. Right now you are only talking to my spirit." She saw his face relax a bit, but he still had a little scowl on it.
She was about to speak more, but she felt a shock of pain go through her. Inu Yasha worriedly looked at his grandmother. "Are you okay?" He asked as he rushed to her side. She smiled and nodded.
"It seems Narako is calling me back. I only have a few moments left. You must leave or you could be harmed by him." She looked t his determined face and slowly smiled. "No Inu Yasha, you can not kill him in one swift move; he is way too powerful for you." Inu Yasha just "Feh" and kneeled next to her. He was about to give the jewel back, but she shook her head.
"I gave you the jewel for a reason. My time is short for Narako is trying to interfere. I leave you with this jewel and what you must do my little one." Midoriko then kneeled down close to Inu Yasha.
"You are the darkness so...Find your Light..." she whispered. With that she placed her hand on his forehead. Before he could protest she blasted light into him.
With that the vision of Midoriko was destroyed and the only words Inu Yasha could hear was...
"You are the darkness so...Find your Light..."
