Sesshomaru paced by the shore of the inland sea hundreds of miles north of the desert Kagome now called home. The woman consumed his mind. Silently he shook his head. What was wrong with him? His eyes fell on the carcass of the animal. Hot blood had soaked the earth. The coppery scent of spilled life filled his nose. He should be hungry, he should be eating, but all he could taste was her sweetness.

Possessed by the combined spirits of Onigumo, Naraku, and Tokijin his every thought, his very will had been bent on slaying Inuyasha and claiming her. Trapped inside his own mind he had been disgusted with the base wants of these creatures. What about her so captivated them? He did not understand then and he still did not now even as his every waking moment and many of his sleeping were consumed with her.

He stopped and gazed out across the waters. He was thirsty, but not for water. He was hungry, but not for meat. He craved her. He craved her silky though chapped skin. He wanted only the taste of her sweet milk, the feel of her pert breast in his mouth. Did she know what she did to him? Did she understand the price she was asking for his life?

Rin. Rin did not fear him. Rin loved him, of that he was sure, but what were his feelings for the girl? The human child, so innocent and pure had won a place in his heart, something few knew existed. Did he love her though? Silently Sesshomaru sighed. Yes, he loved her. He loved her as he would love a daughter. Was that wrong? Was saying it to Kagome wrong? He couldn't think of why it would be. He hated humans, it was true, but some humans were worthy of that. Rin and Kagome were not. That decided he gathered up the kill and began the trip back to Kagome.

*~*~*

San watched her that day. The Wise One moved in a world separate from theirs. He had seen that the moment she had appeared from the sky. He had wanted her even then, even when the elders had proclaimed Other. He wanted her still. The two she had taken as her own were not as they had been either. It wasn't anything physical, but there was a feel about the children now. He wondered if others could sense it, but he had been accused in the past of seeing or hearing things that were not there.

Another animal had been found, neatly butchered. She had seemed unconcerned, almost as though she had expected the strange offering. He couldn't understand her. Why would she keep staving off his advances? He was a desirable man, a great hunter. She walked among them like a Goddess. If she was a Goddess, why didn't she know that he was more than the pathetic male she treated him like?

All through the day he followed her, careful not to let anyone notice that he was stalking her. She glanced at him from time to time and he saw her frowning at him. She had noticed, though none of the others had. How was she a greater hunter than they? She knew she was being stalked, but how? Instinct? No, no woman possessed such power. But then, was she a woman? Yes, she had to be a woman, no Goddess would allow him to feel this way if she had the power to stop it, would she?

Night fell and he continued to watch his prey. She acted so normal, but he knew, he could see that she was far more than any human in the world. He watched as she fed the children and put them down for the night. He had thought she would lay down for her own rest, but instead she went walking. He followed her, careful to remain beyond hearing range and down wind. At last she came to a place near a large tree. He listened as she spoke into the night in her strange language.

"All right Sesshomaru, come out."

A strange creature, he could not be called a man, seemed to appear at her side. Long silver hair drifted around him, framing a pale face with startling golden eyes. Two red stripes adorned each cheek, and a blue crescent moon marked his forehead. He was more than a head and a half taller than the Wise One, and he approached her without fear.

"You knew I was watching you."

"Hai. Arigatou for the kill. These people don't eat meat often."

"You are eating for four. You need more than they can provide."

"Don't you mean three?"

"I do love Rin. You are right about that." He paused and there was a heavy silence between them. "It seems as though, in this place, the only food I crave is you."

Her smile was warm and kind as she slowly opened her shirt to him. San felt rage knot in his stomach as the creature drank her in. There was something indecent about her with her breasts bared. He gathered her in his arms and bent his lips to her breast. He drank as a starving man drinks. Her back arched and her fingers tangled in his iridescent locks. Pleasure transformed her face as her head rolled back and she simply enjoyed the creature before her. After a few minutes he switched breasts. At last he was finished, but he did not release her. Golden eyes met blue for a moment.

"I still do not understand."

She brushed the hair out of his face, her smile soft, almost motherly. "That's alright, Sessho-san. You will in time."

He pulled her closer, his face buried in her hair. Her arms instinctively went around him as she held him.

"Why do I crave you, Kagome?"

"I cannot answer that. That is only something you can answer."

She held him for a moment longer before he stepped back out of the circle of her arms. A single clawed hand traced her cheek.

"You make me different. I see now what the others see. You are light and purity. You are not as other humans."

"You hate us don't you?"

"Some humans are truly worthy of contempt. Onigumo was human."

"Yes, he was."

"And Sakura was human."

"Who is Sakura?"

"Inuyasha's mother."

Kagome simply nodded. Sesshomaru would not tell her until he was ready, and she would not push him. He stepped back and was gone as suddenly as he had come. Slowly she closed her shirt. San followed her back to camp and watched as she lay down with her children as though nothing had happened. He walked over to the elder and woke him.

"I must speak with you about the Wise One."
